All you should have to do is drag and drop files into the S6. If you plug your wifes memory card into the computer (or keep it in the phone and plug the phone in) AND plug the S6 into the computer....both will show up on the computer. At that point you just drag and drop the files/photos/video/etc from one phone to the other. Am I understanding your question correctly?

slow copying to SD card

how is it possible that copying files to sd card over wifi or usb is much more slower than copying to memory of phone. and how to fix it?
because wifi transfer speeds aren't speedy at all since it's very similar to direct downloading off 3g/hsdpa and usb transfers through activesync is nothing compared to the blazing speeds of copying files from a card reader
i know that card reaader is fast but i asked why is coping files to main memory faster than copying to sd card over wifi. because when i download to mainmemory the speed is 250kB and when i download to sd card the speed is 30kB.i want to know why is it so?thx
I noticed this today when trying to send some large files to my SD card. Almost made me feel like the phone is not USB 2. It was going to take several hours but once I yanked the memory card out and put it in my pc it only took a couple of minutes. Good question.

This seems like WM5Storage with a UI make over. Looks like its for Windows Mobile 2003 2005 and 2006... probably a typo on 2005 and 2006. Anyone have them both and can compare speeds?
WM5Storage looks a bit lighter, cab is less than 50 kb... I have the cab attached if you want to check it out! It was working on my last flash (Duttys Hybrid WM 6.1), i haven't installed it yet on this one.
Slow for me too
I thought I was having a real slow copy this morning using USB cable to copy to micro-sd in phone. For camparison, I was copying a little under 4gb of music files to the 8gb micro-sd card and it took like 2 hrs. I would have popped it into the memory card reader on the PC, but for some reason either the reader or the PC (vista 64bit) does not like the 8gb SDHC card.
Mine copys pretty fast if you install du meter I think it will show you the transfer speeds. Maybe you have a generic MicroSD ?

For me, I'm using SanDisk. Do you happen to be using a SDHC card? I never noticed this speed issue copying to a regular 2gb card. Of course, it could be that I am copying 2-3 times more data now and just didn't pay close enough attention in the past.
cardreader works only after flash a new rom a thats all. and wm5torage doesnþt work at all

This could be because when you download something the device will write little bits of data every time a few kBs are downloaded, so many little writes. Memory cards are VERY slow at writing small blocks.
Downloading to phone memory and then moving to the card with an explorer might be worth a try.
Same problem with many little files, memory cards don't like those.
BTW, the speed of the Kaiser's USB port IS USB1.1-like. Maybe the hardware is USB2-compliant, but as all traffic has to go through the CPU the effective speed isn't any higher. It will take a good 20 mins to copy a 950MB file.
I have a tiny keyring microSD reader that's lightning fast. I have a 2GB card inside that I can use like a common USB disk, and when I need more space or want to transfer stuff to the phone I remove it and put the phone's 8GB card instead.

Hotfix for Windows XP that adds support for SDHC cards that have a capacity of more than 4 GB
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934428
Not sure that'll work directly for you in Vista 64, but you might find related items. I had to do that to my laptop to get my Tilt's card to read in my work laptop which is running XP 32. I need to get a new card reader at home unfortunately, no matter what I do to it, it won't read SDHC.
Hello all,
I am trying to copy files from my computer to my storage card. I'm currently using WM5Storage. Everytime I try to move the files over, it indicates that my storage card is not formatted, and asks if I wish to format it. I always click NO because I have several cab files on the storage card that I can use in case something happens and I need to reinstall something.
When I try to move things via Windows Explorer (the mobile device folder), I get the same result.
Anyone know how I can accomplish this?
Thanks so much.
when connecting the kaiser to the computer (xp sp3), you can see a new network connexion created and opened at 10 Mbts. That means the usb link is usb 1.1, a poor performance for a material as the kaiser.
Big files, using usb 1.1 are very long to transfer.
Best regards

The Kaiser provides USB 2.0 'Full Speed' specs which means up to 12 Mb (as opposed to USB 2.0 Hi Speed which goes up to 480 Mb) BUT it's not the hardware that accounts for the poor file transfer speed, it's Activesync/WMDC. Anyone who has ever seen files transferring across to from a PC with a healthy (but old) 10 Mb NIC will realise the Kaiser via Activesync offers nowhere near that level of performance.

Self-deleting videos on microSD

I have a problem (my friend also) on the Note, when I load videos on microSD, in any folder, they disappear after some time. I do not use Kies, but frequently I connect the phone with cable for external storage.

Most of the videos has been deleted from my micro sd card (32 gb) with my galaxy note. It is really frustrating, problem disappears if using phones storage. A fix is requested urgently cuz this not accaptable from samsung.

While connecting the phone to the PC it is possible that a program intended for synchronizing or importing media file to PC can delete the files from SDcard. So does "PMB Sony" for example. You can change it in options.
Same issue with samsung Galaxy s2
Same issue here. My device keeps deleting video files from my external 16gb microsd.
I put video files inside a folder (/media/video) and after some time the files disappear. The only thing that I do is plug and unplug from a pc mounting usb storage several times a day (i do not use Kies).
I also used a freeware program to recover deleted files from the microsd and found out that the files were marked as deleted (i had success in recovering).
This thing is starting to be very annoying.
I'm on MIUI 1.12.9.
Thanks
I confirm that I have the same problem.

This is true and I also can confirm this. I did not notice that my videos were missing until I saw this post and checked for my videos on my XD card and they were all gone What was odd was that the video which were transferred over from another computer to the XD card did not vanish but the videos which were recorded with this Samsung Note did all vanish WTF
I never did a sync either.
I really don't remember the used application 'cause I did it on a pc that i can not acces anymore. In any case, the application was free and i really found it on 5seconds search on google.

I'm thinking of two things, neither of which are probably right
Firstly, I recently installed Window7 alongside my Linux Mint installation. On this I've noticed that if I copy files from Mint to the windows partition that Win7 often does a chkdsk thing on booting up and goes and deletes all these files ! I've never had this happen with any other version of Windows (Xp, etc). I'm wondering is there some filesystem 'tag' on your pc that makes the system think that file is corrupt or something and results in the files being hidden/deleted.
Secondly, I was looking on Amazon for a Sandisk sd card and I saw a review by a guy who said that many sd cards are fakes and not made by Sandisk at all. Apparently a lot of these have a much smaller capacity than claimed and as you add data they fill up and older data is destroyed. Here is the link

I never connected my Samsung Note to a Windows PC and the videos still vanished.
Same issue here..
First of all, I don't think it's a resolution issue because I have two similar videos, one disappeared while the other is still there.
Second of all, my videos are on the phone's memory and not an external sd.
If I go to folder details and check last modified date I notice that all folders from which videos have disappeared have been modified at the same time.
No solution?!
did anybody contact Samsung?
and could it be app "smart lock" causing this disappearance?
thanks
all of you developers out there.. anyone to help??
I might be wrong, but i think that those files aren't deleted at all. You may have a FOUND or LOST dir on you micro SD card with files in it that are the same size of the lost Videos.
I think this problem occures when you turn the phone off while it searches for media files on the card.
Try making a .nomedia file on your SD Card root folder, Stock players might not find any Videos after you've done that but you can easily open them with a Filemanager (ES FileExplorer).
.nomedia helped me

I remember some people complaining about this when the EVO 4G first came out as well & for some it seemed to be bad SD cards but there were also a lot of firmware changes happening so unclear about the determined cause. This is troubling & would not like to still have to worry about this if I purchase the SGNote. Sounds like backup & keeping an eye on this is necessary. Has anyone emailed Samsung?

Does everyone agree that hooking up to pc sucks?

When I found out my new Razr I couldn't use the SD card as a mass storage device, I was disappointed. I thought oh well, I guess it'll only be a problem if I ever want to take or dump files to friends computers but since having to rely on Moto's own device connection ways I'm getting a bit annoyed. First of all, if you want to "Move" a folder from for example, the root folder of the SD card into another folder, it's as if it's copying it bit by bit and takes AGES even in my USB 3 port. USB Mass storage has always treated the SD card like anything else in windows and will just move in a millisecond, but not this Also, I noticed upon transferring a folder which had 98 files, only 90 showed up on the properties once it was on the sd card I like to make sure transfers happened ok by comparing file sizes in bytes so this obviously throws it way off.
Has anyone come up with an alternative solution I wonder?
An alternative is a simple card reader
I think there were some experiments to get mass storage back, but i don't now if they succeeded...
But the new MTP - technology is better for the android system, it doesn't have to unmount the sdcard. and pc and android can parallel access the sdcard.
gesendet von meinem Motorola RAZR i rooted+unlocked
I guess they are some good reasons alright and yeah, I might have to start carrying a card reader so
Personally I like MTP, it's much faster than USB connection, but still it would be great to be able to choose from two options. I've read somewhere that even Motorola had problems with creating USB drivers, so it will be miracle if we see that option on our phone.

There, i solved all your problems.
Never heard of airdroid, will check it out, thanks
MTP seems a lot slower than USB to me? Just the fact you can't "move" like I described is enough
Ok airdroid seems cool, but it seems not to be working properly for me, I've managed to view my sms on web.airdroid.com and the phone details etc come up right, but the internal and SD storage are both showing as 5.13gb with 1.34gb free when my SD card is 32gb.
Also it's giving errors on trying to open photo/video/app folders.
Like the idea so if it can work it'd be great.
Agree
I agree, it sucks!
It´s so slow the cable connection, that it reminds me my old moto V360´s one. Unbelievable!

Works pretty well for me. Maybe you modified something?
Did you test it today? I saw great ratings for it this morning when I downloaded it first but then later today I checked back and the latest ratings were saying it wasn't working.
Didn't modify anything at all really, tried both with an account and without an account and same issues.
Hooking up Razr i to PC really sucks cause you always need to install drivers and Motorola application when you plug into a new PC (and remove they after, when PC is not yours). But I think wi-fi transfer sucks too cause it's slower. =(
When I need to transfer small files I use X-Plore app on Android. X-Plore can access shared folders on your network. It works like a charm!
When I need to transfer big files, I preffer to plug on USB. There's no other way...

[Q] download files directly to sd card?

Tried to download some files but I had to download it to phone's internal memory and then move it to sd card, since the phone doesn't allow to write to sd card.
and another problem, I bought an sdxc 64gb sd card. there's another way to transfer files from my pc to sd card in fast speed? should be like 40+ mb/s and it's transfering files around 4 mb/s, guess it's the lack of usb 3.0 port on the phone.
any faster way other than buying a usb 3.0 card reader?
airdroid and another wireless methods didn't work for me.
Thank you guys.
You're limited to what the phones USB controller allows you to communicate with it, and I suppose it used MTP anyway which is utter crap and slow.
As for downloading directly to SD card, it's impossible because Google put SD-card access limitations in it since KitKat. No worries however since Android L should re-enable those permissions again. (Apps now can only save in their own specific directory on the SD card in /sdcard1/Android/data/com.vendor.appname, so you better wait a while. If you absolutely need to move things between your SD card and internal memory to your own folders, the built-in File Commander has permissions to access your SD card fully.
You can d load files directly to your SD Card.
Settings> Xperia Connectivity > USB Connectivity> Wireless Media Transfer
You'll probably need to install the PC Companion software, and make sure that your screen time-out/stamina is off while it pairs for the first time, but then you can d/load files to your SD card.

tried that, it gets stuck and if I unplug the phone it says something about firewall and upnp, tried to disable the firewall and still the same.
No, it doesn't stick, it just takes a *very long time* to pair (once it is, it's fine) and you MUST make sure your display doesn't time out or Stamina mode kick in during the process

Another question, sorry for quoting you.
Tried to transfer some music, movies and tv series to the sd card. With teracopy everything seems ok.
After disconnecting the phone from pc either the music won't show or the movies, or tv series.
Befor I unplug the phone all the files appear but after I'm unplugging the phone it won't show the files on yhe phone and on the pc either.
Could it be a damaged sd card or it may cause by using exfat format? Couldn't find a way to format into fat32 format.
Any suggestions?
Are you sure the apps you are using to play/view let you into the SD Card?
I have several thousand songs and some movies on my SD Card and they are viewable from my apps.
The best way to format your SD Card would be from the phone itself if you want to guarantee the phone recognising the contents. I believe you use Settings > Storage > Erase SD card (My understanding is that it will format the SDCard too) write speed will be determined by the SD Card too, is it a high speed card? I also find that if you try and write multiple files, it slows down everything hugely, so I tend to do files singly (in the case of movies) and in smallish batches if music.
If you're using wi-fi, the speed of the network/distance from the router will play a part too

The item has been removed from ebay so here is some details but not the model number
64GB SanDisk Extreme Micro SDXC Memory Card Class 10 - 45MB/s UHS-I U1
Formatting it through the phone makes it exfat.
And yes I'm sure it's the external sd card.
But how is it possible that the sd card is full, I unplug it and plug it again and the folders are there but they are empty, plus no matter what is the size of the files that I transfer I have like 4-6 free gb's, there should be like 40 free gb's after the size of the files that I transferred.
You should consider that perhaps you got a cheap copy card and it's not working at the speed it should be, there are card speed apps on Android Market that should be able to tell you how fast its working. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a1dev.sdbench&hl=en

Yes, it's a fake for sure.
About 2-3 mb/s reand and write.
Since the item removed from ebay I can't open a dispute. Hope PayPal will refund me.
If nothing else, at least we've worked out the problem
Not sure if this was already solved.
If you go on Camera, Settings, "Data Storage" change to SD Card.
Erasing the SD card from the phone seems to work more efficiently to provide you the confidence of starting from scratch.
Now everytime I take pictures or Videos, it is transferred straight to my SD Card.
Hope this helps for some that is still having some difficulties with the topic.

Transfering files without Hisuite

Hi there!
I am a new member, recently bought P9 (L09) coming from Note 2.
I can't find a way of transfering files to PC without Hisuite.
I just came back from the holidays and took about 500 pics.
When I connect a phone via USB I can see only about 10 last pictures in DCIM folder on SD card.
I've searched the web high and low, but couldn't find out the conclusive answer.
Please help me!
Thanks
Probably the photos are inside the phone internal storage, not on the SD card.
The camera mode has an explicit option (you can check by swiping right) named "Priority save on SD card", maybe it changes or it changed by itself.
Anyway when you connect the USB you should see the SD card storage but also the "Internal storage" that contains another DCIM folder, which probably contains the other 490 photos.
Hi ScareIT,
thanks, but photos are on the SD card (size is 2Gb).
I can see them on the phone in Files app.
Obviously, Huawei wants me to use their Hisuite.
It's something to do maybe with correct driver? I know there are different file transfer formats(MTP,PTP). And I have even enabled USB debugging, but to no availability.
I haven't had any problems with Note 2 before.
How do you guys transfer files or pictures between PC and a phone?
I have the same problem, connecting with MTP protocol via HiSuite, creation of folders is extremely slow, and I found it impossible to move files from the phone (be it on internal storage or external SD) to the phone in a different folder.
I'd like to use USB mass storage option, but it's nowhere to be found in settings, only PTP, MTP and several other useless options... On top of that, i've lost a file (voice recording) trying to move it from one folder to another... should have saved it on PC first. But with mass storage i'm pretty sure i could recover it.
If anyone can help, would be really great.

You can ignore hisuite by selecting "files"in the notification shade. It will be MTP like any other Android phone.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies!
I know its possible to transfer files with a third party app over wifi, but that's not what I am looking for.
And Marsou77: It's not working for me: when I choose Files in Notification menu- I can view Internal and SD card, but all I can see is only 24 pictures out of 500 in SD card.
And another thing I just tested: I've took a new picture and I can see it on SD card fine now. So I am not sure where all other pictures are?! Maybe some sort of corruption of SD card? But I had transfered all pictures with Hisuite fine. Anyone?
I'm having the same problem. I've already connected my P9 to my PC and transferred a whole load of images about a month or so ago, but now I'm about to run out of storage on my phone and I can only see about 10 images in my DCIM/Camera folder where I know I have about 1000. I'm also missing a whole load of files in my download folder including a big video file that I want to transfer to free up space.
A load of other folders have missing files on my PC but I can see them on my phone and I can double check their location in file details. It seems that I'm only able to view about 20% of the files that are on my device.
If you have password or fingerprint active, you have to keep the phone unlocked for the transfer to work. Just keep the screen on. I had the same problem and now it works.
Just to confirm: I have no passwords or fingerprint scanner set on...
Same here - only some files are visible. Unlocking the phone is not solving this issue.
Ok so this is odd: I've connected my phone to my work computer and I can now see 450 of my 1000+ photos that I've taken on my phone. I moved about 30 images from the phone, deleting them from the internal storage but when I check my phone the images are still there! What's going on? I feel that I'm missing something important here, but I see no other options on the phone regarding USB connection settings.
I don't know if it makes a difference (why would it?) but my home PC is running windows 10 whilst my work one is still windows 7.
Are there any drivers I should be updating to allow Windows to see files on the phone?
I tried searching the phones internal storage for ALL .jpg files and I can see on my phone that I have 1000+ photos that I've taken and around 100+ images that have been downloaded from various places but when I search for all .jpg files I'm only getting 700 results in total. Something strange is going on and I hope I'm just being an idiot here and that I don't have a problem with my phone.
Did you try what Marsou77 said, when pluging phone into pc, on the phones screen, select files, not pictures, you should then be able to browse the whole phone from PC

Yep, that's exactly what I'm doing. Tried keeping the screen on too as has been suggested but I'm still only seeing some of my files. Installed a different file manager on the P9 to double check where the phone says they are but they just don't appear on the PC.
Good news and bad news.
The good news is that I can now see my 1000+ photos and all the videos I've taken with the camera so I can now copy them off and free up more space on my phone. Very relieved that I can access all the files on my phone again.
The bad news is that I have no idea what has caused this sudden change in access. I'm using my work computer which is windows 7 and I haven't changed anything with the phone or done anything different today, just connected the phone and selected "files", as I have done each time. The only thing I can think of is that I deleted a few things from the phone yesterday whilst at home. I went through the installed file manager and decided to delete a few large-ish, downloaded videos that I decided that I didn't need to keep. Perhaps this increased the freespace on my device to a certain level in which allowed me to access all my files? I have no idea, and that's frustrating because this account can't really help anyone else that comes across this issue.
Since you asked, I install Flickr on my phone which uploads all images automatically at full resolution to its online server. Since Flickr gives 1 Tb free, it generally a no hassle solution. I have never connected my phone to my iMac so far. Plus the Hisuite has no OsX option.
Today just happened a strange thing: I connected my phone to download few photos (stored in the SD) and I found them in their place ("DCIM" folder), but I also found a lot of other photos were missing (and I immediately thought about this thread): I still found them inside the SD but inside the "Pictures" folder, not inside "DCIM" one.
I don't remember I actived any option, but that's it.
Just hope it can help some people in my situation.
Hi all!
I think I know the answer.
Basically its to do with a Memory storage settings>Default Location>Internal/ SD Card Storage and emulated storage.
Basically what's happened I was still playing with a settings and customizing my phone and set Default Location to Internal and then SD Card storage. And location of pictures became kinda scattered. I am still learning/reading how Android storage works for SD cards and also emulated storage. Now I set default location to internal storage, phone gave some warning about encryption and it restarted and now I can open SD card on my PC and all the pictures are there! Happy days
Hopefully that will help some people. Cheers
