I am not sure if this is old news, but I did a search and did not find the topic... If it is please disregard
From Gizmodo:
MSN Direct's weather, news, stocks, and entertainment info have been available on MSN Spot devices for a while now, but have been surprisingly missing from Microsoft's own cellphone devices. Not anymore. You can get now up-to-date info right on your Windows Mobile home screen direct from whatever data connection you have (Wi-Fi, 3G, EDGE). Best of all, it's free, which means that MSN Direct might be moving more towards a software service on already-connected devices, which in turn means that it might even expand to non Windows Mobile phones in the future?

Doesn't work on the Kaiser, since MSN Direct is for SMARTPHONES ONLY.
Hopefully someone will tweak it to work for Pocket PC's, though.
From the screenshots, it appears that this works on Windows Mobile 6 devices, but the list of supported phones only includes smartphones.
I confirmed this when I tried to install it on my tilt and it was unsuccessful.
Anyone else had different luck?
By the way, that weather plugin looks HOT!
It looks like its only for smartphones, which could count all of us Kaiser/Tilt users out.
The installer says "This installer is not intended for this device".
Is it because the binaries are for a different processor architecture? If it's made for ARM devices, it should work regardless.
There's probably logic in the cab that says
IF !=whatever-os-designed-for then error. Anyone know how to change the CAB to include our OS on the allowed devices list? Maybe extract the contents and make a new cab?
This is now available for Pocket PC devices as well.. Just downloaded today and it works
Same here... Just instaled it and it works.
Finally I can get my local weather! My city was on the list unlike with HTC weather.

lol, there are other cabs available for free weather that you can customize your town or city.
What Would You Change If Microsoft Asked You To Redesign Windows Mobile Entire OS ?
I would add exit to the programs
I Would Make windows mobile like pc eg say a new version of it comes out you could purchase it from microsoft or your local store instead of waiting for oem to realease it which most of the times they dont even though the device is quite cable of running it.
And For Device Maker to plan ahead for the future by making devices that pass the minimum requirements for the current os so when an updated version comes out they capable of running it.
Do You Think The HTC Diamond Will be able to run Windows Mobile 7 or 8
Morning all,
I've got my hands on something for testing but I just gone and confused myself between CE and WinMo...
Has anyone here heard of Maplins MID? (It's not a phone, just a Mobile Internet Device using WiFi) It's correct / device id is A10JQ MID and can be found on google for full specs... only costs £70 though.
My question to pose to all the brains on XDA Developers: What can be done to upgrade a device like this?
It comes with some reasonable features, but is no where near as powerful as a decent WinMo phone like my HTC Touch. I have developed some stupid little apps using .NET and despite getting .NET CF to install on the device, it still won't run the .NET mobile apps.
Is there somewhere I can look at information for ripping / modifying the ROM like I do with my phone?
Specs-wise, it's very similar to the HTC Magician (M500) but with a better screen (it has the same SIP/Keyboard). Obviously there's no GSM hardware but that seems to make the device quicker to operate.
The WiFi may have been an after thought; there's an expansion slot for SD-Cards which I am using for storage, however there is no other visible slot, yet the WiFi is powered by a SD-IO card (presumably internal). The annoying part is that the WiFi is switched off by default, and there's a fumbled routine for switching it back on using the device's 'custom' menu system. Windows CE has it's own controls to do this but there's no menus. (Think parents trying to use this thing).
Any thoughts you guys have would be appreciated. Has anyone else got one yet and found what's compatible / or not?
Thanks,
I have heard of it.
Is it win ce core?
It wont run many apps
flyboy
CE Core?
It's definitely not as good as the 6.5 ROM on my touch hd, but whats confusing me is that some of the pieces of software on there are much more advanced than the older CE devices that I've got. The system properties say:
- Microsoft Windows CE Version 5.00 (Build 1400)
- Processor Type: Telechips, ARM926-TCC79X
It's got plenty of RAM for a mobile internet browser, and browses the Internet quicker than my touch hd... well it brings the pages up quicker! It has no flash video support but uses core player to allow some access to you tube.
I read up mostly on developing my devices using .NET - from what I got; Windows Mobile is a 'fork' version of CE developed mainly with mobile GSM/Wireless devices in mind, but is compatible with CE applications. The compatibility implications are mostly to do with form-factors (layout). But I've found that I can't even get Total Commander to work!
I would just like to update to something more compatible / customisable... I suppose that's just the developer in me?
erm...
windows mobile is based on ce.
Is it that you want to run different apps on the device?
flyboy
Hy!
I think its an normal Windows CE like it runs on thousends of PNA devices.....the only Diffrerence is that the Mapplin is "DesktopFree" by default....( you can also make every WinCE PNA "DesktopFree" )......
So in Google you can find a lot of Software (Apps) for Windows CE......
MFG
Wwesome price for a device like this, i wish they sold it here
Hey guys,
I'm going to be demo'ing a windows 8 Mobile Device's integration with Live and our company apps. I was watching MMS 2013 videos and they showed a Windows 8 Mobile screen on their Windows 8 desktop during their demos.
Any ideas how I can do this? Using a Lumia 920.
Thanks
You can't. Developer devices include additional Drivers and Software to make this possible. Also the Software running on the Desktop for this is not released by Microsoft. There are some hacked ROMs for old WP7 devices but those won't help you with your use case.

Dear All
I would like to know if it could be possible to install OPENVPN client on WINDOWSPHONE. I find that it was possible for windows mobile version.
There is any specific limitation or only a very low interest on the matter?
Official support for VPN clients only *just* became available, with 8.1. I don't know of any OpenVPN client yet, though.
It may require some work. OpenVPN (for desktop Windows) targets an outdated version of the network driver interface spec. Desktop Windows supports that old interface (for backward compatibility) but I don't think Windows Phone does (I know Windows RT doesn't). The driver component of OpenVPN may need to be updated for the newer spec.
