Hello all.
I bought a Nexus One in at the beginning of the year. It's not rooted and I've had no problems from it till this month. I can not say the timing is exactly this, but it seems the battery issues started just after the FRG83D upgrade. I am accustomed to using my phone for most of the day before it needs to be charged. 12 hours or more with moderate use. Since around the FRG83D update my battery is about dead in around 4 or 5 hours. I haven't changed any settings or gotten any new apps or anything for quite some time.
For example, Friday night I charged my phone to 100% and then unplugged it (to plug in my girlfriends phone) and went to bed (about midnight). At 5:15am my alarm went off, i glanced at my phone and found the batter was at 10%!! the phone had been sitting there doing nothing all night with the screen off. I checked the battery use screen and it showed cell standby and AKMD taking up all the battery (55% and 35% respectively). I should mention that I have full signal where I am and have never had an issue. I cut off the screen rotate in the settings just in case that was part of it (AKMD being the gsensor i believe).
At next full charge that day i noticed the same problem, after being at 100% my battery was down to 10% after about 5 hours, almost the entire time I didn't use the phone. This time "display" was the largest percent by far (followed by cell standby), but clicking it showed only 15 minutes of use time for the display as I had purposefully not messed with the phone much.
Last night I had to be out and a bout so I decided to test things again. Charged full and cut airplane mode on. about 4 hours later my phone was down to 20ish percent, the only use of the phone being me looking at the charge level a couple times through the night.
I installed "spare parts" app and it shows my battery as being in good health and such but who knows how reliable that is.
Anyone else having similar issues? Any suggested remediation measures? I'm considering flashing the phone and reinstalling apps and such but would rather avoid that having never done that before and not having a desire to deal with setting everything back the way I have it.
Don't know if it matters but I run LauncherPRO and I do use the friends widget but it's never seemed to really cause battery issues before. I also run the news/weather widget, but again, no previous problems.
Any help would be great
Thanks!
In the spare parts app check partial wake usage. See if any apps are not letting your phone sleep.
nothing stands out other than UID 10073 which is handcent. currently my phone is charging but I'll pop it off the charger soon and watch the battery drop time again. I should note that inbetween all the tests so far i've rebooted the device so hanging apps of any kind should be killed off...
What ROM are you using?
Are you using Extended Controls? There is an issue with that and FRG83D. Uninstall it until the dev sorts it out.
yeah i am using extended controls. i'll take it off and see what happens.
Me too
I Have exactly the same issue, also have extended controls. Uninstalled and waiting to see if that works.
Cheers for the suggestion.
That did the trick! Loss like extended controls was the problem. A shame as i really like that app. Will hope they update and fix soon. Thanks!

Extended controls updated!
Yup, uninstalling fixed it for me too. Haven't seen the update though. I remember seeing an update yesterday, but I had this issue with that update so that did not fix it for me. Hope they update it again soon

I think it was updated again today. Now v5.03, and it seems to work properly.
So nobody saw Extended Controls showing up in Spare Parts, System Panel or other such programs?
I have gotten up to find our nook dead a couple of mornings. It doesn't happen all the time so I wonder what it could be. Has anyone else seen this before? We would have over a half charge each time. I have a task killer running but I wonder if it could be something else I'm not seeing?
Occasionally, my wifi doesn't sleep correctly when I turn off my Nook and my battery drains signifantly more as a result...
Seems to depend on which ROM you are using. CM7 uses the most battery during standby and stock seems to use the least.

Do you have Titanium Backup scheduled? If so, see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11698291&postcount=5
No I don't have titanium installed. I may check the wifi. I know that it happens more after I use it than my wife. Of course I am downloading and running more apps than her.
Download an app to turn wifi off when the screen is off. I had the same issue plus random reboots before I did the above.

I don't know how to explain this... Hope you'll understand me. So my phone was full charged so i put out the charger and i go to school. After 6 hours i came back and my battery was at 50%. I was surprised but when i tried to call someone my phone died. So when i starded battery was at 3%. Same thing today, i put out my phone from charger after 2 hours i tried to do 2 photos and *bam* died - 3% battery.
There is a screenshot so you can see what i mean. Can you tell me what is the problem? Hope you understand me
wow, that's a HUGE drain. I recommend installing a wakelock detector to see what is causing that huge drain on your phone
This is how you would go about using the app to find the issue.
1) Install the app from google play "Wakelock Detector-Save Battery"
2) Open it
3) Once it opens, reboot your phone
4) Once it reboots, leave it for 5 mins
5) Unlock your phone and open the wakelock detector
6) Check the bar at the top to see if your phone was asleep and how long it was asleep for (should be around 4 mins)
If it is 4 mins or above, then your phone should not be having battery drain, ensure you are swiping away apps after use.
If your phone was awake the whole time, then you will be able to see what is causing this and you should uninstall this app
Also, you should enable the power saving option to maximise battery life.
Make sure you charge the phone while its turned off, apps can interfere with the charging process while the phone is one, this could also be the cause of your drain, so turn off and then charge.

Seems normal to me, deep sleep is good. Ask here, in the WD thread, maybe someone could help you. Better than post it here. Have a nice day.

I think WD thread is the best place to ask & WD will help you only to detect which app is draining your battery.

I'm just sayn' that i don't think that is a problem with some drain. I think than my phone don't know exactly how much battery have. Sometimes has 3% and after one second of chargin' has 47%. I just reset phone to factory settings and, same problem ):. I'll post there. Hope that someone can help me

Ok, there is no specific app that is causing that your problem. So do you charge while your mobile is on, or off?
Also, is your phone rooted? If it is, try re-calibrating your battery.
Hey folks,
I have keeping an eye on my battery and I noticed that my note 8 doesn't go into deep sleep?
Anyone else?

I installed the app and noticed that mine goes into deep sleep state as soon as the screen turns off. I'm thinking you have a rogue app causing wake locks. Try a wake lock app to. See what it could be. BTW, I'm running in mid powersave mode, not high performance.
Cool app. I'm glad that I found this thread.
I get 94% screen off time in deep sleep. I don't have many apps installed on my phone. I keep my phone lean and try not to gunk it up with apps that misbehave. I just installed Samsung Pay yesterday and noticed that it is eating a bit more standby battery. This is the only reason that I really liked root. It was very easy to find and kill whatever wakelock was keeping my phone from sleeping. Without root, it's much more difficult. It's usually a process of uninstalling apps and seeing how battery life is affected.
I hate wakelocks.
Do you have any good suggestions for an app to track my wake locks? I'm not rooted.

Theoretically, Better Battery Stats can be set up to track wakelocks on unrooted phones by using a few ADB commands. I haven't tried. it. There was an article on the front page of XDA about a month and a half ago on how to set it up.
BBS was my goto app for rooted phones. There's also an app named Wakelock Detector, but I don't think there's any way to fool that into helping you out.
I'd absolutely love to hear about an easier way to do this, if there is one.
Bbs seems to be working for me. Using the adb method
Here's the link to the XDA article on using BBS without root:
https://www.xda-developers.com/stop-wakelocks-android-without-root/
I like GSAM as well. I wonder if this method can be used with it.

And one thing that I don't understand is why Android makes this information so difficult to get, without root. I mean what is the harm of making this information readily available? Wakelocks are the one thing that I absolutely hate about Android. I've been fighting them since my first Android phone and apparently that fight continues today, with this version. In standby, I'm losing around 1% per hour and I have almost nothing installed on the phone. Before I installed anything, I charged up the phone, took it off the charger, and left it overnight and I lost two percent battery in 8 hours. Last night's test, I lost seven percent in seven hours.
I wish I could be one of those people who just used the phone and plugged it in and never realized any of these things. My wife's like that. She has a ton of apps installed on her phone and gets almost no deep sleep time. She doesn't even notice it and doesn't care. She uses the phone and pops it on the charger when needed. Sometimes she complains about battery life, but doesn't care enough to look into what's causing it (hint, it's probably Facebook).
Hi there!
I just bought four days ago a Note 8 (my 6 month old Pixel XL simply bricked itself) and i found it a pretty nice device.
But one strange thing is happening, maybe you guys can help me pinpoint where the problem is: when I put my device inside my jacket pocket, it goes really hot and battery goes down the drain.
If I remove it from my pocket, it cools down and battery drain comes back to acceptable levels.
My initial conclusion is that something using the proximity sensor is draining the battery... any ideas?
Do you guys recommend any tools that would help detect where the problem is? I don't want to root the device.
I use kin screen to keep the screen on while I am using the phone. I thought it might be the culprit at first, but uninstalling it didn't solve the problem.
I used package disabler pro to disable some bloatware like onedrive, carrier apps and such, no success. Enabled all apps again, same problem.
Any help would be appreciated... thanks in advance!

Not sure what could be draining your battery in your pocket but you may want to try this setting: Settings>Display>Block accidental touches (prevent the screen from detecting touch input while your phone is in a dark place such as a pocket or bag)
See if it happens when the phone is in Safe Mode (ask Bixby)
djlee0314 enabled it...
After searching on google for a while, I found some threads that relates this battery drain with camera settings related to sensors and movement...
And voi la, it seemed to work for the most part.
Removed the phone from the charger at 7am and battery was draining as supposed until 1pm when the phone started getting hot again.
Removed from my pocket because I needed it online... placed it in the pocket in the evening and... cold.
I am starting to think that I might have a faulty unit... I am trying to avoid restoring it to factory defaults... will keep monitoring.
Thanks!

Whats did you do whit this to fix it?
Never experience this issue with my N950N. Try enabling accidental screen touches maybe that will resolve it
