Hi everyone,
My AT&T Note 3 is draining a ridiculous amount overnight and I don't know what's going on... I even have Power Saving Mode on ...
According to Battery, I'm using:
21% Google Service
17% Android OS
16% Screen
,, And a bunch of smaller apps. Funny thing is these don't add up to 100%.
I have OpenMic+ installed but turned off, continuous fetch of email to Gmail, auto sync, Nova Launcher Prime, Live Wallpaper...
It's an issue with a lot of Note 3s. There are wakelocks everywhere that nobody can figure out. We have no choice but to accept it or change phones.

Why were people saying Note 3 had exceptional battery time then?
I found an app to counter wake lock (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector)
I don't see my phone turning on for no reason at night though ...

Wakelocks don't turn your phone on as far as the screen goes. The note does have pretty good battery life when you turn everything that makes it a smartphone off.
It also gets decent life if it would behave and not have random wakelocks keeping the phone from sleeping

You can turn off Google services until you need them or you can get Battery Widget Reborn on the app store. They have a sleep mode which allows you to put your phone to sleep for the hours you specify. I lose less than 5% during the night using it. Sleep mode disables what you tell it to. Wifi, bleutooth, network data, background sync, etc.

What are Google services and where do I disable them?
If your Google Services are using most of your battery you need to do a factory reset. It's easier to just do a factory reset than to beat around the bush trying to figure out what exactly with Google Services is jacked up. Battery isn't a problem with this phone, it's easy to get over a day with it. If you need any additional help with solving this problem your more than welcome to PM me.

I've been through a couple of Note 3's with some development I'm doing and I haven't had any kind of a wake lock problem yet. I'm really not sure where everybody is getting this from. I see you've definately been around the block here on XDA for a while, so you could you PM me with some information on that? Thanks.
One thing I found was destroying my battery was Palmary Weather. Since I've uninstalled, everything has been perfect

Mine drained 10% last night
Mine never drains at night in any excessive manner. In fact, overnight drain is much improved over my old GS3.
Standard procedure for any type of battery drain is to download a wakelock detector program, identify the problem processes/apps, and disable them or see how you can reduce their battery use.
I am stock. Not rooted.
I have restored the phone to factory settings thinking it will help it. But it hasn't.
I have tried the completely stock and immediately the Android os was keeping phone awake. Then I started disabling Verizon apps, unnecessary g9ogle apps and still I have the os keeping phone awake about 6-7 hours per charge.
What should I do? I've dealt with this on my old nexus 4 and haven't been able to figure out why Android phones are plaged with this Android os wakelock.
I believe this all started when I got the 25b ota. After that I've done a factory restore. I don't have Verizon so I'm not getting any more ota for 26A. Is there a way I can manually flash the newer rom?
No answer for you, but just wanted you to know my battery life with the last 4.4 upgrade just the other day is now miserable. Can not make it a day. Use to be able to get like 2 days. Thinking about just selling the phone, and buying something new cause of it.

Have it installed.. even installed greenify yesterday to see if that helps.. Wiped some of one of the batteries average length per charge and started it fresh today, so I am going to chase it down I hope. Battery shows it's Android. Note 4 anyone? Have to pay full price for it though, can't justify 700 bucks. But I do have a trip coming up where I have to be gone for 2 weeks.. so maybe then?

Let it sit for about 30 mins with the screen off untouched, see if it's going into deep sleep, report back your findings under partial and kernel wakelocks also.

See if this is what you meant...if not a nudge into the place to look would help me..
Looking at the second set of shots, are you on a public/work wifi network? The wlan wakes are what's keeping your phone from sleeping. That can be caused by things like DHCP queries from the network waking it up, etc.. My battery life takes a hit when I use our open network at work, constantly woken up by the wireless lan.
Are you having the same issues off wifi?

Yeah, I normally don't run wifi. I just happened to turn it on today at work. I can let it sit for another 30 mins or so and do the same thing. Phone is at 57% screen on time of 1 hour, I use to get at least 4-5 a while back.
Add me to the list.. I'm stock and after the update a few weeks ago this turd heats up lots, freezes, re-draws home screens VERY slowly, Swype effs up badly now and my battery life is literally about cut in half. This is all after a factory reset after taking the update.

...as I said, I'm stock. My wife has the same phone and hers has no problem, or so she claims. However, her phone is nothing more than a window into the world of Pintrest and Facebook whereas I actually use my device constructively.
I just took the plunge, flashed back to 24a, re rooted, upgrade to 26a, and now it is much better.
Tried to post a pic.. but it is too annoying
26h 20min battery usage,
@24%
screen on time of 3hours.
That is much more in line in what I got when it was new.
So just running it all the way down, 33.5hours of usage @ 5% battery left, 3.5 hours of screen on time.
Much better.
I'll try to grab the battery pics, since I know no one will believe it..
You might want to fresh flash.. not sure what got messed up.. or if it was an app. Even though it was listed as Android system stuff.

Which application do you use to track battery usage?
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Pretty sure I was just using the stock battery tracker at the time.
Getting around 3.5 hours SOT after a few charges it does not seem to be getting better. Constantly seeing System UI listed as top wakelock offender. I cleared the cache and it helped for a short time. Now it is no longer listed under Lollipop battery stats but WLD finds it every time.
Just wondering if anyone has seen the same wakelocks. In WLD it seems most are audio related. The others say 'dozeservice'.
Using WLD to detect. Rooted, unlocked. DPI changed, double tap to wake installed. Nothing set to sync aside from default google services. Gmail, calendar, chrome, etc.
If you have touch sounds on, turn them off. Now one of the first things I turn off. Always get wakelocks when I had that option on. . Yeah. You should be getting closer to 6 SOT

Thanks for the reply. The only sounds I have on are dialer (barely make outgoing calls) and lock screen sounds I just disabled lock sounds though. I find them extremely annoying but always forget to turn off.

I can manage 5-6 hours SOT depending on what I'm doing. 4 is super easy to get even with GPS running and Bluetooth all day. I would give greenify a try to see if that helps.

I agree. Greenify is a must. I would greenify all apps you don't receive notifications from. My podcast app was using my GPS all day long the other day. Greenified and haven't seen it since.
I'm having the same issue with system ui wake locks. Rooted decrypted. However, ive been averaging 4-5 hours SOT, so its not that bad. I'm not sure what exactly is causing the wake locks though.

I can barely get 2.5 hours sot before I'm down to 10 - 15% battery. Kernel and android os are way up there in battery consumption... Yesterday between the two, they kept my phone awake for almost 7 hours

Do you have wakelock detector installed? If so can you tell me what you're seeing as the culprits. Also wondering if you're paired to a wearable. I have a moto 360 paired.
I am now seeing:
The usual 'dozeservice' multiple times
AudioMix
Alarm
Ringtone player
Show keyguard
I have no alarms set.
I ended up wiping it today while I was getting rid of encryption.
Planning on slowly adding apps back.
If anyone wants to chime in to compare apps, here's what I had.
Adaway, Nest, Plex, Netflix, Battery widget, Wear, WLD, Greader pro, Weather
I'm usually pretty light on apps but figured maybe someone with the same problem might recognize an app.

I've had the same - Systemui and Google search wakelocks. Have Twitter, Reddit is Fun, Wakelock Detector, Gsam, AC Unity, App Ops, Grubhub, greenify, Snapchat, Tunein Radio.
Ugh. So we have one app in common.
Im on my fresh install with one downloaded app (wld) and systemui is still waking.
Are you seeing the same instances in systemui as i am?
This is turning into a bit of a 'dear diary' but in case anyone comes across the same problem I am hoping to document for them.
Since I wiped and disabled encryption my battery life has increased significantly. I have only installed instagram, nest, and swiftkey so far.
SystemUI is still wakelocking slightly but nowhere near what I was seeing before.
I've been up for 22 hours and I'm currently at 53% remaining. Granted only 2 hours SOT so far but this is FAR better than I'd seen before.
I will continue to load apps slowly to see if I can find the culprit.
I'm bumping an old thread but I've been having the same wakelock issues with dozeservice and it turns out that dozeservice is the ambient display feature, which makes sense.
I have a few questions:
1-What is a good Wakelock detector app?
2- Can I use Greenify with Franco Kernal?
Thanks!
Is it OK to clear the cache of systemui? Because I am having the same issue. It's on top of my list causing wake lock. I've installed Franco kernel and I am on stock 5.1.1 encrypted but I only get around 3 hours of SOT

Yeah, doze service for me to.
Hey everyone!
I got my Note5 near launch day. I love everything about it, except the battery life.
Basically, I am not satisfied. I barely make it through the day with moderate usage. The crux of my problem is idle/standby battery drain.
This has been a problem for me ever since I got my Note5 and even for some of my old phones (M8 on Lollipop).
The Issue: I'm fine with how the battery drains when I'm actively using it. I'm not going to go into much detail about that, but I'm satisfied with how fast I seem to be killing the battery while using it. The part I'm not satisfied with is how much the battery drains when I'm not using the phone. Obviously, this must be an issue with wakelocks. When you look at the screenshot below for Android OS, it is always wake for more than 2.5+ hours in a 15 hour usage period. Now, I'm not sure if that's normal anymore. I don't remember how it was on KK, nor do I know if that's what everyone else is getting.
The Issues Cont: So yeah I have massive idle drain. (I estimated that I get about 1.5-1.6% battery drain per hour. I charged my phone up to 100% and let it sit idle overnight for a span of about 8 hours or so. It went from 100 to 91 during that time). What this means for me is that, I can use my phone less and less because while it sits in my phone, it dies quickly! On GSam, it shows that my battery discharged 38% while the screen was off! Again, I don't know if this is 'normal'. What is everyone else getting?
What I tried: I tried factory resetting. Nope. I tried reflashing the firmware, factory resetting. Nope. I booted into safe mode and left it idle overnight. Still dropped to about 92% or so, IIRC. I actually had the GS6 Edge before the Note5, but I returned it because of the ****ty battery life. Then I inserted my S-pen backward and broke the sensor in the Note5, so I got a replacement. For each instance, I always got crappy battery life. So I am doubting that this is a hardware issue. I tried minimizing the apps installed so minimize wakelocks, but it didn't seem to help.
What I want: Honestly, I just want to be able to use my phone and have it not drain so much while it's in my pocket or on the desk. I want to be able to go into a lecture for a few hours and come out with maybe 1% drain, not 3% or 4%. And I want to do this without rooting. I don't want to trip Knox, and I'm tired of rooting and spending hours tinkering with my phone to get decent battery life.
Attachments: I uploaded screenshots of almost everything I thought would be pertinent. Please have a look and hopefully we can compare results and figure out whether this is normal for a Note5 or not!

I reckom its something you are downloading is doing it. Add one app at a time and see what it does.

Yes there is something keeping your device awake. Rogue app. First guess would be that Facebook messenger app. Look in settings for your running applications, try to limit those to ones you absolutely need using package disabler. If you don't know what's OK to disable, read through the debloating guidelines thread.

Never let Facebook or Games run in the background and MOST IMPORTANTLY disable location services completely. Keep it on a toggle and turn it off until you need it. Always keep it off or Google will ping your location once every minute. It literally halves battery life.

I don't have the Official Facebook app installed.. And I almost always keep location services off, but the battery still drains as it does..
Use the smart manager app to stop certain apps from running in background and restrict background data for apps that don't need it in the mobile data settings.

My battery is amazing and I can say this as I am a battery guru and have spent countless hours trying to squeeze all the juice out of my devices, which includes eliminating wake locks. If you had root you could figure it out, without root you'll have to start un installing apps 1 at a time until it get's better. Also check your exchange accounts.
I assure you something is wrong as my battery life is the best of any phone I've had.

This probably won't be helpful at all as it is a complete shot in the dark, but perhaps you have an app that is trying to get your location continually since you have it off? Maybe try leaving location on. I never turn it off and I've been getting very good battery life on my T-mobile Note 5.

I have a stock Nexus 6 on t-mobile with a side loaded t-mobile ota and connected to a 2015 Moto 360. However lately it seems like doze isn't working. It shows that my phone isn't awake during the time I'm sleeping, but my battery still drops pretty significantly overnight. When I wake up it shows that android OS is at the top of the list and I don't remember it ever being at the top of the list before, it used to be just Cell standby and screen.
Anyone have this issue or know if there is a fix?
I have some pictures of my stats when I woke up.
Edit: Just added some current GSam stats as well. It shows google app as the top using app. I wonder if that could be going rouge?
i wouldnt really say that doze isnt working, id guess that you have an app that is keeping the cpu busy all the time, instead of going to sleep
what app or how would I check for that on stock? I have looked myself, but I haven't added any new apps since the original update and it also doesn't show any apps in the battery stats that are keeping it awake. I also find it weird that the battery stats don't even show my device as "awake" even when it is draining battery.

Yeah that's what I was talking about. No apps show up on my battery stats page as using excessive battery life or keeping the device awake overnight, but I still have drain... I don't understand why or what it could be. It's been happening the last few days or more I believe and wasn't happening before.

It sucks I've rebooted it a few times and even before going to sleep last night after charging and still nothing... I included some Gsam stats in my original post. I would but they don't even ding the radar of battery life or keeping my phone awake and having them installed was never was a problem before.
I know they will hit my battery life a little bit and always has, but this overnight drain was never a problem after first side-loading the OTA, it just came up recently. Also I've used android wear and had a moto 360 connected to my phone since gen 1 came out without an excessive drain issue.
