I have upgraded my Asus 176CX to Android 5.0. Although I like the new version, the responses inside the applications (and mainly simple games) is not good. The start time of the applications is 2-3 times slower than the older and slower Asus MemoPad 7 HD!
Any ideas how to fix that?
Mine too. Have you tried factory reset without automatic restore?
I did it and now it's much faster, almost as much as before the update. The game's still stuttering quite a bit but not as laggy as before.
The main problem I have is the screen seems to have lower contrast than in 4.4.2 and sometimes the colour just goes washed out and then return to normal. Especially when switching apps. But sometimes it just does that for no obvious reason.
Also the amount of bloatware just went through the roof and I can't disable or delete them like before.
To anyone passing by: Hold on for a bit. As far as I'm concern the only good thing I can find in this update is native support of USB Audio.
What do you mean by "Automatic Restore"?
Also, after the factory reset, how did you re-installed the apps? I don't want to loose my data, I have some apps (not just games), like for example my Lufthansa app with all my data and Boarding Passes etc that I really need.
The bloatware is a lot. I cannot disable most of it. One of the good things: The backup application.
In Backup & reset you'll have 2 choices called
- Back up my data
- Automatic restore - which will restore your apps along with settings after factory reset. But to be sure that it deletes all files that might cause the device to slow down I'll disable it.
And yes, after factory reset with this option disable you will have to reinstall all your apps and all your data will be gone. So make sure you back up everything you need before doing it.
WARNING: If you have important data like boarding pass in your airliner app then I wouldn't suggest you do the factory reset because even if you enable both "backup my data" and "automatic restore" there's still some risk that data in some apps might not come back.
Back to the issue of device slowing down, another way to fix it is format cache partition. This is the safest way to fix the problem without losing all your data, apps or any settings but I really can't find a way to do it.

Here's how you do it:
- Turn off your device.
- Hold down "volume down" then press power button until it turns on.... at this point continue holding the volume down button.
- After you enter fastboot mode, release the volume down button.
- Use volume up or down to navigate the menu, select "RECOVERY" then press power to choose.
- It will show the belly up droid, don't panic.
- Press volume up and power simultaneously, hold them down for about a second then release them. If this doesn't work try holding down a bit longer. You will get in to recovery menu.
- Use volume up or down to navigate the menu, select "wipe cache partition" then press power to choose.
- Wait until it says "Cache wipe complete." on the bottom of the screen.
- Choose "reboot system now".
Try this first and if it doesn't fix your problem I'm afraid you'll have to factory reset your tablet.

Hay i have a rooted G1 with Jf - can't rember what version.
I've been having lots of problems with force closing of various programs but otherwise everything was going fine.
After a few force closes today i decided to restart my phone, turned it off and then back on and stuck it in my pocket.
When i went to check my texts 5 minuets later i took it out and it was just stilling on the 'Android' splash screen - it was moving then freezing for a few seconds then moving (i don't know if that's normal but it wouldnt surprise me).
I took the battery out and restated again and exactly the same thing - it would not boot.
I did a quick search on the problem and remembered how to boot in camera+red mode - which the phone did fine. I then read that pushing green+menu+red would fix it.
I did this and the phone booted, but it lost all my home screen icons and was laid out like when the phone was bought. i then cheked an app or two and they are all still there and seem to have retained their data.
However other strange things are happening - the home button dosnt work, nether does the green, when i hold the red button i only get the 'power off' option not 'power off, silent and airplane' as i used to.
They are the problems i have found so far but there may be more. Basically i want to know what pushing green, menu, red actually does and i want to know what the hell is going on - im totally lost.
Please help
P.S. i did a test on the consol and it seems i still have root assess - just encase that relative
Go to recovery, wipe and reflash. It will solve all your issues.
I can't actually remember how to do that - can you explain more or link me?

You're going to need to go into recovery; press the home screen button, then the red (energize, end call, whatever) button. Hold both down until you get into recovery, which will be the text menu with all the selections available in green. Then scroll down to "wipe data/ factory reset" and do that- this simply wipes the phones internal memory. Then load the rom you are using, which I assume is already on the root of your sd card. If not, connect the phone, mount the card, and put the rom there before you get started with the above steps- chris
Hi everyone,
I was using my nexus one with low battery, and then it shut down.
I went back to car, attached it to the recharger, and pushed power button.
At this point it turned on and a setup similar to first boot appeared (selection of language, date & time, google account)..
Once the setup was completed, I pressed the home button and associated it with Launcher Pro.
At this point a popup message appeared, saying (translated from italian):
"Sorry! Sudden interruption of the application Launcher Pro (process Android.process.acore). Retry.", with a button named "Retry".
- If I press the "Retry" button, the same popup message appears on and on again.
- If I shut the phone down and restart it, it asks for the SIM pin, the unlock pattern, and then the popup message appears again and again..
- I can't access the menu through the button, and I am stuck in this situation!..
- I tried to uninstall Launcher Pro via appbrain about two hours ago, but with no luck..
Any help would be much appreciated..

Assuming you aren't rooted, I just want to let you know you always have the last resort of resetting the phone back to default, so the phone itself is still fine.
With root, you can ADB and remove LauncherPro.

However, the procedure I found for the hard reset is this:
"With the phone shut off, while holding down the volume button on the side of the N1, press the power button briefly while maintaining the volume button pressed in for around 5-10 seconds.
You should be presented with a menu that allows for: Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock. You can release the volume button at this time.
Select Clear storage with the volume button up and down, then press and release the power button to make the selection.
It will ask you to confirm this decision. Press the yes button using the volume up."
Should i proceed so?

Yes, I meant a factory reset. Before doing so, check for any data you might want to save.
As for the method, what you found should work fine. I've never done a hard reset from the default recovery. I've only done it from the phone itself (which you can't access) and custome recovery.

After that, I was asked to complete the initial configuration (time, google account, etc). and I am now on the home screeen!

For future reference, you would probably have been able to fix this without wiping... turn the phone on, then when the X appears hold the trackball, it should boot in safe mode and you can remove/clear data as needs be.
AuraxTSense ROM - I know someone having this issue, anything they can try short of full wipe?
I have a Sony XPLOD MEX-BT...something something and the music streaming is great when my phone is running GB, but under ICS, any rom I use the music streaming is rubish, and if I unlock the phone and do anything with it whilst it's playing music via a2dp the volume jumps about up and down until I lock the phone and put it down again. I do not experience the same issues when I pair it with a car at work (Toyota Yaris) it seems to be able to A2DP just fine with ICS, its really weird

There do seem to be problems with A2DP/AVCRP on ICS. Personally I have connectivity problems if the device attempts to initiate the connection with the phone instead of vice versa. See also http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=28347
AVCRP I don't really care about, I have my phone on a windscreen mount for GPS and I can leave it on the media player if I really want to see that, I just really want the music to not skip like I'm jogging with a DiscMan
I'm using the same Sony with Bluetooth running dark raider 1.5.2 and I use it everyday works awesome I'm using launcherpro with slacker radio or doubletwist my car has a good sound system and I can crank it up with no issues I use avcrp too

Have an Alpine CDE-133bt. Phone will either connect to media or phone mode only...not both...WTF
Of course in the focus i have with sync i dont have this issue...but the audio skips once in a while...ics screwed something up.

(Just wondering where it stands in terms of warranty in the UK- whether it's the common sense "if you break it in the process it's your problem" or the rumoured "warranty gone no matter what" that has been reported elsewhere)
I've had a similar problem with Pandora and a bluetooth headset. After some amount of time, the playback seems to pause very briefly about once a second. Turning off WiFi (with mobile data off too) makes the problem disappear instantly, and it does not come back for a minute or two.
Sometimes I get a "Bluetooth headset connected" toast message, and the icon changes appropriately, but the headphones don't appear in the "Paired devices" list and the audio plays through the phone's speaker.
These same headphones worked great with my Aria (CM7.1, 7.2 nightly) and an old Evo 4 (CM7.1).
I've been a little reluctant to root, but this sort of thing will help make the decision.

I didn't know the stock recovery had a menu.
Edit: It worked for a while, but started skipping again.

Most of the time when I open the camera I have a 2-4 second wait for the app to open, anyone else? It does open but takes forever. If I have used it recently, within 10-15 minutes it is pretty snappy, 1-2 seconds at most.
I did install the google camera app but the problem predates that. It opens faster, but focuses slower so in usage it isn't any better.
At any given moment I may need 3-5 seconds to take a pic with either app. Certainly a 1st world problem but a nuisance when I want a spontaneous pic.
Anyone heard of this as precursor to the failed camera problem?

My gf has exactly the same problem. I'm gonna try the following steps:
You might find that a simple restart does the trick. Hold down the Power button and select the Restart option. The problem may return.
Try going to Settings > Application manager and select the camera app. Tap on Force stop, Clear cache, and Clear data.
Try clearing the cache partition. Hold the power button and choose Power off then press and hold the Volume up key, the Home button, and the Power button. When the phone vibrates, release the Power button, but keep holding the other two. When you see the Android System Recovery screen you can let go. Use Volume down to choose wipe cache partition and press Power to select it then, when it’s done, press Power again to Reboot System Now.
There’s a chance that an app is causing the problem. Any app that uses camera functions, including flashlight apps, could be the culprit. The fast way to check this is to reboot in safe mode. Hold down the power button and select Power off then hold down the power button to turn it on again and when you see the Samsung screen come up, release the power button and press and hold the Volume down key. You’ll know it worked if it says Safe mode in the bottom left corner. If the camera works then it’s definitely a problem with an app you installed. Hold down the power button and choose Restart to get back out of Safe mode.
If you’re using a microSD card to save photos try removing it, save them elsewhere, and see if that makes a difference.
Back up anything important and try a factory reset via Settings > Backup and reset > Factory data reset.

I did clear the cache and I switched to internal storage. Also I uninstalled Google' camera app, which I thought would be neat but never used after 1st launch; it seems a little faster but I'll have to use it a few days to see. It may be my SD, as it is pretty old.
Safe Mode didn't effect any change.
I'd never tried to enter recovery on this phone and inadvertently entered Download mode instead. I blame my overly large fingers for it. Gave myself a moment of concern as I only see DL mode when I first root a device, almost 2 years ago for my last phone. I'd forgotten that the "DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET" warning didn't mean much without Odin running.
If this isn't an indicator of a upcoming camera issue I'm not too worried about the lag, if it fails it has a warranty....

Yeah.. I mentioned that in OP. That problem usually presents as a "Camera has failed" message according to articles, there is no reference to any symptoms prior to failure.
Try going to Settings > Application manager and select the camera app. Tap on Force stop, Clear cache, and Clear data.

I'm also having the same issue, doing a restart or clearing cache/data on the camera app just fix the issue temporarily, after couple of days it gets super slow again.
I've also started to run into this issue. The camera will take several seconds to load, then freeze for a second or two. This happens after I haven't used the camera for a while. The gallery, however, always takes several seconds to load when launched from the camera. Both of these still happen whether the camera is set to store on internal memory or my microSD card.
Are there any solutions that anyone has found?

If I have the image stabilization turned on it makes my camera crawl too. Turning it off seemed to help, at least some.

This has really begun to annoy me, as the weather turns nicer here I find that I am using the cam more frequently and the delay is aggravating.
Clearing cache helps a little, and turning off Image Stabilization seems to have helped also. Still a few seconds longer than I like but better. This thing should open a major built-in app faster than it does, I think it did at first.
I may do a factory reset and see if that helps, if not I may seek an exchange from AT&T or Samsung...

safe_mode_androidAndroid is a relatively stable mobile operating system, but every now and then, performance issues arise. Safe mode is a great tool that you can use to troubleshoot these issues. Safe mode boots your phone running only the apps that came with the phone – that means no third-party apps. Therefore, if your phone runs without an issue when you’re in safe mode, it’s a pretty good bet that the problem isn’t system related, and instead a third party app you downloaded.
Click through the break to see how you can enable safe mode to test if it’s a system problem or a third-party problem.
Unfortunately, not all phones have the same method to enter safe mode. Most Jelly Bean devices use the first method below, but some devices with older versions of Android and some newer devices (like the Galaxy S 4 and HTC One) use the alternate method further down the page.
Method 1 (most Jelly Bean devices)
1. Hold down the physical power button on your device.
2. Long-press the “Power off” option that appears.

3. A dialog box asking you if you want to reboot to safe mode may pop up. Tap OK.
(Note: If the box doesn’t appear, go on to the alternate method.)

Alternate Method (some older versions of Android and some Jelly Bean phones)
1. Turn off your phone.
2. Once your phone is off, turn it on by pressing the power button.
3. As your phone is booting, hold down both the volume up and volume down buttons (yes, both) and keep them held.
4. Once your phone has booted, you should see a “Safe Mode” watermark at the botom left of the screen, to let you know that you are in fact in safe mode.
Note: If the alternate method also doesn’t work, you can try holding down menu instead of volume up and down while booting.
In safe mode, while you can’t use third party apps, you can uninstall them. So if your phone is giving you problems as bad as freezing and not letting you uninstall apps, you can uninstall the problem app/apps in safe mode. In addition, if you need to, you can backup your data or factory reset your device in safe mode .
To exit safe mode, you just restart your device as you normally would.
