I used to have random reboots on Nexus One, but after updating to Froyo 2.2 (before the official release), I had noticed the random reboots to get more (like 2-3 a day), but now the phone is totally useless, it does reboot constantly, and when it's connected to Power, it reboots couple of times, then gets stack at the Nexus logo.
I have put the stock firmware back, EPE54B, and it even detected 2.2 and Google pushed me the official release and still no go (yes, I did clear cache, etc)
I loaded up the log program and checked the logs after a reboot to see if it was some sort of kernel panic or something, but it does not show anything per say.
I even tried w/o SIM or w/o memory card and the results were not conclusive, it worked for some time, then started rebooting on its own. Sometimes I notice the phone is very hot, which makes me think that it might be faulty hardware (ram, etc)
Has anyone seen such an occurence, would HTC repair the device now the bootloader is unlocked or is this just a thin paper weight ? I think I read someplace that they still honor hardware repair...
Thanks,
Houman
Mine reboot when it overheats during charging. There are several overheating threads u should check out.
Sent from my Nexus One
Just be honest

From what I hear, if your honest and tell google that you unlocked your bootloader they will still repair your device, I don't know about replacing it if it can't be repaired. But before you go that route try troubleshooting. Make sure you have the correct radio, not all roms come with the correct radio. Non-compatible kernals can become a issue to, if you flashed a custom kernal. I get the bootloop problem if I flash a rom without wiping, which I never do, except when the instructions say no wipe required, and then I get the bootloop issue. So try a full wipe, data, dalvik & cache, ext, and then reflash your rom.
I had random reboots up the wazoo. My phone was unlocked/rooted/running FRF93. I downgraded to other versions of Froyo and even went back to 2.1/CM and it was still rebooting.
Turns out that HTC actually puts it through a reasonable testing procedure to determine if it was in fact the user that damaged the phone. So even if it is unlocked/rooted and the phone passes the test, you will get your repair free of charge just like me. I'm currently waiting for them to ship my phone back.
Although I have heard horror stories from HTC, so I really think it depends on the moon cycle...
Like a poster above said, BE HONEST. Let them know the truth that it's rooted/unlocked but currently running a standard ROM. If they give you the standard "if it's rooted, you're going to have to pay", tell them that you're heard of their testing procedure to determine if it's the user's fault. Go to a supervisor if you have to.
Hi,
Thank you all for the responses... so I decided to leave the battery out completely for one day, then put the battery in the phone, and I did quickly use the phone to wipe it as well as wiped the storage clean... so the phone should be back to regular day 1 status other than boot loader being unlocked. I guess by putting the PASSIMG.zip which has EPE54B files, I forgot, and it also flashed over the ramon recovery as well.
Then I turned off the phone but connected it to the charger and let it charge completely, this morning I turned on the phone and it has been on w/o reboots.
So this points to either heat, radio (wireless, 3g) -- it does not have a sim in it currently, but the good news is that it's not rebooting. I think I'll play with wireless first, then add 3g then we'll see where it takes me, but if it comes to returning it to HTC/Google, I'll be honest of course.
This has by the way:
Android Version: 2.2
Baseband: 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.12_7
Kernel 2.6.32.9-27227-g3c98b0d
Build FRF91

Any updates? I have a similar issue
Yeah I basically think it's heat related and unrelated to the firmware, RAM, etc.... I had the phone at a very cool place and it works perfectly, and when I started using it, as it got hot, it started rebooting, and I noticed the back of the phone was very hot.
So I think nxt was right #2 in this thread.

The above observation would seem to make sense. My phone would reboot while trying to watch youtube videos sometimes, but ALWAYS within a few minutes of using it on the mains...
I have since had it sent back to HTC to have the phone repaired. I had rooted my phone just to get 2.2 however as it was a genuine hardware issue they replaced the main board and now not only does the phone not reboot anymore, the issues I had with no 3G (only Edge) have disappeared too. Happy

Hi
So I got my phone back from htc, they basically fixed it and even locked the bootloader so all is well
Just FYI
Houman
i have had my HD7 since 4/15/2011
It has worked absolutely flawlessly since then. Smooth, fast.. Just perfect.
a couple of weeks ago i flashed to my first custom rom (insintric rom) and about two days later I flashed to Next Gen rom. The phone worked pretty great for about two weeks after that then all of a sudden the phone started randomly freezing up. it would remain responsive on what it was doing. ( a contacts info i could scroll left and right ) but I would be unable to leave that screen. the display would stay on , the power button would be unresponsive and the touch buttons at the bottom would vibrate but not take me anywhere. again I could still interact with the window I had open.
this happened mostly when trying to go to a contacts page and clicking the phone number to make a call.
then the phone started locking up when receiving calls (doesn’t do it every time maybe 3 - 4 out of 10 )
if i used the power button to turn off the phone about 5 - 6 times out of 10 the screen says goodbye but never changes after that.
I went back to the original T-Mobile stock rom (very first one) and upgraded all the way thru and though it seems SLIGHTLY better still happens quite often keep in mind this phone worked flawlessly for almost a year without a single problem
here’s what I’ve tried
Master reset (about/reset phone)
Master Reset(hold keys during boot)
goldcard reflash to original tmous rom
after reflash to original too all the updates
reflash to other custom roms
formatted sd card and reinserted
Replaced SD Card
nothing seems to help
sometimes the phone will reboot but usually whatever screen the phone "locks up on" can usually still be interacted with.. Random buttons will not work sometimes I can’t get to the wifi setting. Sometimes htc hub won’t work. Sometimes it won’t go to email.. You can see it "push" on the screen but it won’t go to them. but I can go other places.
Anyone have any ideas or have had a similar problem?
i am currently using the stock tomus rom updated thru zune to mango

Anyone with VIE-AL10 device facing problem of apps closing down in background after the OTA update to B397 ?
I sent a query to customer service. They asked me to do a factory reset and im trying not to go that route.
No.. my device is working alot better. Battery is also lasting longer and camera update with the live/moving image is functioning pretty well. Overall function is spot on for me and my device. My issue seems to be the frame drops and other UI issues.
Never had to do a factory reset whilst by bootloader has been locked for the ota updates, but if your device is giving you problems it might be that time to bite the bullet and do a factory reset. I'm also going to be parting with my AL10, it has served me well but time to downgrade as I'm leaving the UK in the next 3 months or so...

- likely something went wrong during 5.4->5.6 update that is now driving high CPU use (heat) and hangs as device is busy doing 'something' that will never complete; seen this many times before with major FireOS updates
- usually can not be fixed via a factory reset (no access to system partition)
- current unknown if FireOS 5.6 can be safely rolled back to 5.4.x (likely not)
- neither FireOS build can be rooted - hence no custom ROMs

Alright guys.
I must admit,, I was ready to give up on this phone. After owning several very high spec phones, for their years , I found myself having to get a "budget " one.
This phone was the worst I had used. Constant slow down to the point of waiting 20 seconds for an app to even bring up keyboard, battery useless, all after the 8.1 update. However not the case now. How? Well . .
My phone went into a bootloop of just showing "no command". I sent it to Nokia repair, in Hungary, via DHL. for a 5 day turn around repair. I got back the same exact phone. They had put on 7.1.2, as the factory restore image I guess. I debated about updating to 8.1 then took the plunge and did so - a big 1.8GB update. Then, to my amazement, it installed - one after the other - all security updates up to November 1 2018. I previous hadn't had any since May. Took quite a while. Reboot for each one, etc. After November went on I rebooted, and then did a reset to factory via recovery.
This phone has a new lease of life. Seriously no slowdown, multiple apps, vastly increased battery life (granted it's only been 2 days, but still you can tell it will be), the speed is vastly, vastly improved and is something that I was not expecting.
So, maybe we should all get our phones a bit cranky (get them in a boot loop), make sure it's in warranty and send it for repair. One thing I have noticed is that they put on the default stock WW rom (which was not the case previously). That, I assume, is what has resulted in a new lease of life - and updates - for the phone.
Thanks
It worked for me, expect that i didn't brought my phone to Nokia service.
I did noticed that the phone was really really slow even just on opening apps, it's a nightmare that considering there are phones cheaper than this and just works fine with apps.
They said that the updating to oreo will make it slow in some cases, i can't tell due to when i bought the phone, i immediately updated to Oreo
So i stopped the security updates from July cause i wanted root so bad that i was even planning to downgrade the thing, reasons are both i want the old speed back to this phone and root access.
But after i saw this post, i was curious... So i updated the phone to the latest security patch. And now it works great!
I can even play PUBG really smooth (which I can't back then)
