If I root with PINGPONG ROOT ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/root-pingpongroot-s6-root-tool-t3103016
What would be the process to going back to stock when an official update comes? Will I be able to unroot and accept a new update? Will the community release a rooted stock ROM?
Much thanks!
Do we know for sure that we can't update of rooted? Because I can't live with this ram issue too much longer

I have confirmed that you can use ODIN with the stock files here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att.../g925aatt1aoe2-uptate-odin-tar-files-t3119235 to restore back to factory. I did this before I had to send my device back for Warranty Replacement due to a faulty front camera.

Forgive my newb question, but I am rooted with ping pong as well and I was wondering if I can do a factory reset on my phone without doing anything else?
you will still be rooted after reset.

So I can just go thru the boot options to factory reset? I'm glad that I will keep root.
Thank you!

This may have been asked before, but I couldn't find a proper answer on XDA forums. So here it is:
Will you still be able to download and install official updates in your Note without a hitch even if you've rooted it?
Is voiding the warranty the only problem with rooting?

yes to your questions. getting it OTA is another matter especially if you installed a custom rom.
and of course, you risk bricking your device once you tinker with it. but if you follow the instructions, especially Dr. Ketan's guide, your chances of success goes up dramatically.
That's a relief. If I don't install a custom rom I'll be able to upgrade OTA, right?
And where can I find this Dr Ketan's guide?

Of course you will get OTA / Kies update after Root, but again bad part is that, you will lose Root after OTA/Kies. So If you want to keep your Root intact, you should not update it with OTA/Kies but you can just use as Notice, when you get notice about new update, find it over XDA (this thread is for stock ROMs) n update it using Mobile Odin/ CWM
Chasmodo have shown you exact thread for rooting guide in detail, here ofline guide i have made too, download it from last link on my signature.

So, in case of the OTA update a rooted device will get "unrooted", right? Will that leave the phone in the same state as it would have been in if the rooting never happened, i.e. if you were just doing the OTA updates only all along?..
Yes it will lead to state of unrooted, M not sure but it may leave superuser application icon on drawer(non functioning). If it remains you have to Flash ROM with PC Odin to get rid of this.

Alright, and after that is done, will that leave the phone in the same state as it would have been in if the rooting never happened, i.e. if you were just doing the OTA updates only all along?..
Can anybody please answer this? Thanks.

I think yes, only not sure about the "flash counter" that I've heard on these forums. It may be an indicator of you voiding your warranty.
EDIT: got my self interested, did a quick search and found more info on this thread. After doing the update and going into download mode you should be able to see if your flash counter is alright
i have root with zerg rush exploit
did ota update and still have root.

I think some OTA updates leave the rooting intact and one has to specifically "unroot".

Thanks. So I guess things will be the same if one flashes back the original ROM and resets the binary flash counter. Please do correct me if I'm wrong.
Flash counter raise when you flash custom rom with pc Odin.
Reflash stick rom won't reset it, u need 'jig' to reset it.
Ics support a sw which reset counter without jig.

Ahh no wonder... I am on N7000OZSKK1 and was notified about a 70~mb update both OTA and via Kies to N7000OZSLA2 but no matter what I did it would cause an error during updating. I guess I'll just wait for a "rootable" update (and plus I can't seem to find a changelog either...)
Does anyone have a link to a working way to unroot, so I can have it not rooted when I go upgrade on friday ?

You could flash a tot, delete/uninstall SU, or use any of the AIO's. Flashing the tot is the only sure fire way to get the 'out of the box' freshness.

why do you need to un-root it for your upgrade? They do not actually take your old phone nor do they really care. Your contacts are either backed up through VZW's website, google, or other.
Just back up your phone and go in and upgrade. You do not ever actually need to present your old phone. They only need your phone number.
Hi all. I've got two VZW LG G2s that are rooted, and the current KitKat update continues to download and fail. Is there any way to force the update?
VZW support suggests a factory reset and I dont' want to do that for sure.

If you need the stock recovery back, easiest thing to do is wipe the phone back to stock using the flashtool then let it take the OTA, you can re-root with ioroot25 afterwards and if you need TWRP, re-install it with AutoRec.

Most of it's listed in there. Use AutoRec to install TWRP, you can find it in the regular G2 Dev section.
Hey all, I have searched and searched but can't seem to find anything. Tried removing carrier iq the wrong way, just removed the files from the system, caused a boot loop, I'm rooted but don't have a custom recovery installed, can someone direct me to the correct file to flash by Odin to install a custom recovery? That way I can reinstall / move the files back to where they were? Will this work? Thanks a lot! Jeremy
There is no custom recovery for the AT&T Note 3. You said you're on 4.4.2, correct? If so, you'll have to use the MLG restore (see the link in my signature for a guide) or go to a Samsung Experience Center at your local Best Buy and have them reflash your phone.
Thanks, that's what I was thinking. And as far as best buy, I've tried before and the guy there said flashing a rooted phone will brick it and he absolutely would not do it so... And that's the only best buy around so...

I took my rooted phone to Best Buy when it was on MJ5 in order to update to OTA 4.4 when it was released, and it worked just fine. Maybe something changed then.

Yeah what I was thinking, he doesn't know what he's talking about pretty much, I didn't want to even go up there and try because of the lack of knowledge. But now I do want to flash my phone to nc2 stock and go from there. Are we sure that I can? I'm running the flashed method of the mj5 itself, no nc2 kernel or anything, just the flashed mj5 from Carl's post.

thats MGL with A3 bootloader, if you install that then you will not have any trace of Root. You can do a factory reset first and then install that odin install, then go to AT&T if thats your carrier and they may do more for you than best buy.
Or do this if you want official nc2 4.4.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701062

Now if he has mlg I would suggest he use your nc2 thread in development
If anyone is interested in the future, best buy can indeed flash the official NC2 4.4.2 kitkat to your note 3 as long as you're not on verizon, rooted, or have tripped knox, have a custom rom or the like. When i went in this time i actually spoke to someone who knew something and hooked me up, samsung rep, plugged it in to their computer, downloaded the software, rebooted and all was back to normal. Just like an official ota update, didn't lose any of my files, settings anything. So we're back, and now rooted and rollin.
So basically anyone who installed safestrap and doesn't have a working backup is out of luck.

If you want to go back to stock 4.4.2, you can flash by odin the leaked tar, which will remove root, and everything, then go to best buy have them flash the nc2 official, then start from scratch there, with rooting and safestrap etc.

Can't you just uninstall safestrap and delete any root files off the internal SD card?

I'm 99% sure it will work because they are literally the same phone. It's just different carrier settings.. In any case if the file is not compatible with your phone then it simply wont flash. No worry of a brick.
Is there a link available yet? Sorry for the rush but I'm pretty excited. (I can't pull the update since I have a T-Mobile SIM in my AT&T S6.)

I'm having trouble downloading. I was at 0.5 GB/1.6 GB and the download stopped; now I can't even access the download page.
EDIT: never mind
Should I be adding all 4 files to ODIN? My biggest problem is that my phone is still on OE2 and I'm having problems updating.
Somebody pls make a flashable version of this so we can still keep root.
So this will burn a e-fuse? Is it supposed to? Does that hurt warranty as well?

e-fuse is samsungs way of blocking you from downgrading the firmware. This is official samsung software. You will not trip knox.

Dude thanks for posting these! When the 5.1.1 update was first rolled out I noobed it up and tried to get my device ready by flashing back to stock. It was rooted and on OF4 via the FlashFire method to keep root but when I flashed to the original stock it ended up wiping my baseband and as a result I lost data for two days. I just flashed these and now all is well again. Thanks again!
