Hello!
Wonder if I could get some help with making some changes to my phone as I did on my Note 2 and android versions before KitKat?
I never cared for the "drip/drop" sound that Samsung has for default on their phones. I found that I could replace those sounds with one of my choice in previous versions of Android. With ROOT access, I used to navigate to System/Media/Audio/UI and change 2 files - TW_Touch.ogg and S_HW_Touch.ogg. NOW... Fast forward to KitKat and my Note 4. I was going to do that to my Note 4 when I realized that with KitKat, the file structure is different. Now there are separate folders in Storage/emulated/0.... one for Ringtones, one for Alarms, one for Notifications. However I don't see one for UI (guess that's not too surprising since not many may want to change things there...) Is there still a UI folder somewhere, and if so, where is it? OR.... where would I now find those two files to replace so that I can change the "drip" default sound when you tap anywhere on your screen. Thank you in advance.

I am not sure why you are not seeing it but yes it is still in the same place in both KitKat and Lollipop.

Thank you both. I guess trying to make changes to one's phone in the wee hours of the night causes one to not see the forest for the trees (or in other words - not see things that are right under my nose!)
I was able to find the files with your help and I changed the .ogg sounds for one of my choice. Thanks again! :good:

Cannot Change Ringtone?
Ringtone Change
Note 4: SM-N910T
Android Version: 5.0.1
Baseband Version: N910TUVU1COG2
Kernel Version: 3.10.40-4739134
Build Number: LRX22C.N910TUV1COG2
For some unknown reason I have lost the capability to change my ringtone to a song (MP3 file) that I have used on my Note 2, Note 3 and this Note 4 for years. I have tried many times by going into:
Settings
Sound and notifications
Ringtones
Media Storage
And see Ringtones in the System- Media-Ringtones File (.ogg files)
I try to ADD and then get: Complete action using: with various apps shown such as:
ES File Explorer, Total Commander, Sound Picker, Pick Audio Track and Dropbox.
I have tried to add the song that I want using ES File Explorer and Total Commander which does play when I try to add the song. However, when I return to Sound and notifications, the original ringtone options are still the same without the song (MP3) I tried to add.
I have tried to ADD using: Sound picker and Pick audio Track and nothing shows up as these are both empty. I don’t know where Sound picker/pick audio track is located to move/copy the MP3 file into one of those locations.
I have not used Dropbox as I do not use Dropbox.
I have even tried to copy and move the song into:
System-Media-Ringtones (file) and that will not allow me to do so. I get the display:
Copy/Move Task failed: /system/media/audio/ringtone/Aquarius1.mp3: open failed: EROFS (Read only file system)
Again I know the MP3 file works as a ringtone because I have used it many times and even use if for Contacts.
What am I doing wrong?
How can I get that ringtone back?
Any help will be appreciated.
I found the ui folder for newer systems.
For some reason on my lineage 17 system the folder was moved to
System/product/media/ui
on my old system this wasn't the case.
Anyway let me know if this works for you guys

I have a Sony Xperia 1ii XQ-AT51, it's stock-rooted, Android 12.
Can confirm, sounds are in system/product/media/
and the subfolders are: alarms, notifications, ringtones, and ui.

Hi all,
Just picked up a Kaiser from the Orange shop this morning & the one thing I can't find to do (so far) is set my own sounds for the keyboard slide noise.
I've done a few searches but haven't found anything. Any ideas anyone?

I'm also interested in this. Who wants to hear a piano when you slide your keyboard out? Though it could have been worse... maybe a crying baby or a dog barking. Talk about irrelevant sfx. I guess a quick hack would be just to locate and replace your Piano sound effect file.
On my HTC TyTN II its simple.
Go to, Start, Settings, Keyboard Sliding Sound.
Maybe this is different with AT&T ROM.

That lets you pick from a set of three defaults .. I want to choose my own wave files.
Also, I've found the soundfiles, but I can't replace them because they're set as system files.
Found those 3 defaults by the way:
\Windows\0_in.wav
\Windows\0_out.wav
\Windows\1_in.wav
\Windows\1_out.wav
\Windows\2_in.wav
\Windows\2_out.wav
Basically u hit the registry,
hklm/software/htc/slidingSound
You will see 3 folders, 0, 1, 2

Inisde each folder theres
Default(name of the sound)
In, and out
If you want your own sound
Create a folder called 3,
Toss your own in & out waves in the windows folder.(important)
in the folder, create a String value, default with the name you want to call it.
Then do the same with the in and out except using the names of the .wavs you tossed in the window folder(include the filetype, such as 3_in.wav)
*edit* forgot to tell you guys to soft-reset after
I use vista's login/logout, sounds excellent.
Ill post the .wavs if you guys want me to.

Thanks for that, it worked a treat.
Still, its a bit of a mess to do it, you'd think you could just pick the files from a menu, perhaps thats something for version 2.
Well, im still an amatuer programmer and have yet to touch c++, or whatever ppc uses. You guys can ask that tweak guy to implement it in his program, that would be awesome.
the vista sound cool, could u please kindly post'em for us? thanks
I thought the sliding sound effect was the stupidest waste of processor cycles... until i put a very short wav of the transformer sound! now i have my own little cell phone Decepticon!
.wav files in \windows\ and import reg file. now you can select it in sliding sound options under settings tab.

hi everyone,
since december i'm proud like you to have the kaiser from htc. i've spend still hour on hour modding my kaiser and reading all interesting informations that here is offered by you. and hell you all make a good job here!
so i want to give you something back and here it is:
i've taken the vista startupscreen before you logon from a few well hidden dll's and extracted the relevant images and sound.

installation:
make a new .txt-file with notepad and copy & paste everything below in and rename the txt-file to whatever.reg:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\StartupAnimation]
"Volumn"=dword:00000064
"WAVFile"="\\Windows\\Windows_Vista_Startsound.wav"
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
"GIFFile"="\\Windows\\animated.gif"
"Priority"=dword:000000C8
or you can take the file i made called "Startup.reg"
then copy "animated.gif" and "Windows_Vista_Startsound.wav" in your systemdirectory called "\Windows\" and overwrite the existing "animated.gif". if you want, you can make a backup of the original htc-logo animation gif. if you encounter problems to paste those files, try the resco file explorer instead of windows mobile explorer.
my zip-file contains the following:
- animated.gif -> vista-logo animation
- Startup.reg -> execute this and it will add the startup music and volume to your registry
- Windows_Vista_Startsound.wav -> yes! the original from ms
if you want the newest file, please download vista-startup_on_kaiser_v3.zip
V1
- first version
V2
- i've changed the timing of sound and animation to make both fit togehter a bit more. for now, i think its close to perfect. but make your own try.
V3
- improved image color quality. now it looks like eye candy ;-)
- loudness reduced
- fixed timing
hint: you can also download my source and project files here, to make your own great startup logo
lemme give it a try...always kinda like that animated vista orb..
Great job!
I will use it in my new ROM, thank you !!!
thanks
but i think the timing sound/orb isn't perfect. i will try to make it more perfect, but today its new year's eve and that means i've to guzzle lot of beers
How do you execute Startup.reg
How do you execute Startup.reg? I copied it to My Documets and click it but got an error. I have a progam called MobileRegistryEditor but it on't let me edi he registry, just view it.
Thanks!

hi osokona,
it's like under windows desktop os. simply click the .reg and windows will ask you if you're sure to add.
if this isn't working for you, something with your windows mobile is wrong or a setting from third party program.
if you have a registry editor, you can add the values by hand

change the "volumn" setting e.g.

remember: set the value in hex not decimal

just did this on my tilt..thanks!

Great Work!!!
I just installed it on my TMO HTC Wing. Works great. Thanks!!
Great Job.
Its works & its cool thanks a lot.
Can someone build a cab for this?
Here, I`ve build a cab of V2
Please let me know if it works... ( I didn`t test it, but it should work )
Installing now...
Slow, laggy, off timed, but cool nontheless!!!
Agreed, GIF animation is a bit slow.. Maybe if pause between frames are reduced a bit, it will look better..
Anyway to shrink down the size of the orb so the resolution is better?
I took the plunge and made the animation quicker.. I`ve tried my best to sync sound too, but unfortunately my device won`t play startup sound due to ROM bug..
I don`t know why Hermes turns white when this animation is finished, then flashes, then shows welcome png, is this same on Kaiser too ?
Here is the faster version.. I hope it is synced good..

the original vista orb, as shown on first page, is high resoultion. when i make the animation with "easy gif animator" he reduced colors :-(
in photoshop everything is ok, because ps uses selective colors instead of web-safe-colors
if someone knows a program to make a better animation or will try itself here are the source files in bitmap and optimized gif's from adope photoshop -> download moved to first post!
edit:
now i know who to create an animated gif in adobe photoshop cs3 (honest, since version cs3 it sucks really. shame on you adobe), but it will me take some hours. this means: expect the better image quality end of week or maybe next week.
stay tuned and check here again for updated news.
Hi everyone
My original ROM (Telstra) had a link in the Programs Tab to the Games FOLDER, which was really handy.
With my new ROM there is no such link, does anyone know how to add a FOLDER as a Tab item.
I have played with the registry keys at ...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\n (n being 0 -17)
So far I've had no success. I've tried linking to the folder directly and linking to a shortcut to the folder.
Anyone ?
If anyone else with a stock Telstra ROM could have a look at theirs to see how it's done, that would be great.
Cheers
I've been looking at the following site:
http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=119476
and in this topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358613&highlight=programs+window
But nothing seems to work.. If anyone can figure it out, let us know!
Ok, I have worked out how to link the buttons in the Programs Tab to folders and not files.
The way it was done on my original Telstra ROM is as follows.
Note this guide assumes you want to link the Games Folder, this should work for any other folder as well.
Copy the _FolderView.exe in the attached ZIP to your Windows directory
You need to create a new shortcut file (I copied an existing one and modified it and I'm sticking with the original Telstra filenames throughout this)
So I made a shortcut called _GamesFolder.lnk, and I put this in the Windows folder as well.
On the Shortcut Tab the target line needs to contain the line below:
\Windows\_FolderView.exe #\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games\?shellres.dll,-8229
At this point if you run that shortcut it SHOULD open your Games Folder, if it doesn't you've done something wrong.
Ok, now we need to edit the registry
Navigate to ... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\n
n being the number of the button you want to point to your folder. Remember the first one is 0 not 1, so top row 0-2, 2nd row 3-5 etc etc
Change the value of DispName to whatever you want it to be (for this I just used Games)
Change the value of Path to \Windows\_GamesFolder.lnk
If all has gone well you should now have a Games Button that has the little Ace of Diamonds on it, and when selecting should take you straight to your folder.
I would imagine you could put the exe and shortcuts anywhere you wanted them, I haven't tried, frankly I'm fine with them in the Windows Folder.
Hope this helps someone out.
Cheers
I've made a cab file that does the job easily, to be found here.

I believe in \Windows\_FolderView.exe #\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games\?shellres.dll,-8229
shellres.dll,-8229 is the icon for the shortcut.
yes but I don't know if there are ready folder icons for other things (tools for example, comms, whatever)
In spanish windows 6.1
Extract and put this archive in windows directory.
How frustrating.
I assumed that if I created a shortcut to the folder (which Touch Flo 3d then finds) it would be able to launch it.
No cigar.

Thanks for the folderview .exe file. I'm using it outside of TFL3D. I was wondering if you can make a .exe file shortcut for the games folder, because the .lnk does not work. I have a Sprint Touch Pro. Thanks in advance
There is a problem here. When I select the Games icon in the Programs tab, the games list comes up (GOOD). However, if I minimize the Games window, re-selecting the Games icon is a no-op (BAD). The only way I can get it to work again is to actually close (not minimize) the games folder list brought up by _FolderView. Note that this folder list doesn't show up in the list of tasks, so if you forgot to close (not minimize) the games folder in the first place, you can't reinvoke it without a soft reset.
A workaround is to configure the HTC's X-button to close instead of minimize a program.
great tweak, also work with the newest manila

I can't get it to work on my HD2 I assume it is because I already have the 16 (4x4) icon cab installed.
Not sure I want to go back to 9 icons (3x3) just to get a games icon.

The manual method of doing it should work regardless of if you have 16 or 9 icons. I am not sure if the cabbed method will work. Try the manual method, it is a bit of work, but it should always work regardless.

Silence! (since it doesn't mirror the phone's silent times)
GMD Gesture Control (to add a menu and home gesture [this is super useful, I have it mapped to other apps too including Nova Launcher])
Speed Reader <- this one is amazing, (I'm actually using it until spritz comes out) but it lets you read text (like books and stuff) super fast, I can coherently read "Divergent" at 600 words per minute.
(Make sure to set the bg color to black and the text to whatever color)
to help optimize the speedreadrer app (so it takes advantage of the OLED screen) I also use
Full!Screen <- removes the status bar (be careful it also, for some reason, removes the recent app list)
Ultimate Rotation Control <- forces everything to remain in portrait mode so I can actually use apps that force landscape (and make it perpendicular to your hand)
Screen filter <- to read at night and lower the brightness intensity! (the grey probably affects the OLED black battery life thing)
I would post links but the system won't let me ahaha

Do you guys have anything you recommend putting on also?
Got some awesome sounds on my gear! (replaced the touch sounds and the charger sounds with effects from MGS4)
Use the Media Human converter to convert anything into an OGG file
Place all the .ogg files except for Ticktac.ogg into /system/media/audio/ui
USING ROOT BROWSER! (place on sdcard then use root browser to replace the files in the folder)
Ticktac.ogg goes into /system/media/audio/alarms
You can also set the codec sound as the ringtone by putting in on the SDcard in a folder named "Ringtones"
You can set an alert sound by putting it in the root of the SDcard named "Notifications"
I'll post a video soon.

There's a couple .zips within this .ZIP file. Where do those extracted sounds go? Thanks

The extra zips are extra sounds that you can use. If you decide to use them, you can parse them through Media Human Converter and rename them to what you wish to replace. The sounds that you can replace are in /system/media/audio/ui just make sure they are in an ogg format.
I'm just a fan of metal gear, I changed some of the svoice pings to the codec openings etc.
I actually quite like this, nice find dude !
I may include this font among others in the next version of the rom.
I'm curious where exactly did you find that lowercase font ? Did it by any chance come with a bold version also ?

So I got excited and made it for you anyway. Here you go! It includes the other missing styles AND the WP fonts ripped straight out of the Windows Phone 8.1 SDK.
I put the font on my Galaxy Note II (Skynote TW) also (using the AllBacksBlack theme) and it looks amazing too. Going to fix up a theme for it to make it more streamlined with the gear. The black and white scheme also helps save a bunch of battery life thanks to AMOLED screens.

Question. With ifont installed on the gear, how does one go about installing this font pack? Do you unzip it first or place it in /ifont/custom or what?
Thanks

You would place the extracted ttf files into a folder called IFont on the root of the 'sd card' and use the app (click custom) and use it to install it. (Or you can tap the click this button in the app and navigate to where it is). Afterwards, hit the name of the font you want to install and click set.
If you still have access the the stock gear settings app, just place it in a folder called fonts and go to settings and change the font.
Look Google glass fonts! (not lowercase lol)
I have a Note8 and the audio notification sound is one I copied to it when I originally got the device. The OS has been upgraded multiple time since, but the audio notification has always stayed the one I copied to the device. Now I can not find the audio file in any search using My Files, ES explorer or Root Explorer. The filename no longer shows up in the list of names to replace it either. Whichever folder I placed this file in, there are a couple others in it as well and they don't show up in the any of my searches as well. However, the file I am looking for does trigger when it should, I just can't find its location. Can someone help me find my missing, but existing audio files?

Which areas have you checked? Usually those flies are found in either the internal memory of the phone which is /storage/emulated/0/media/audio and you'll see 3 folders which are contacts, notifications and ringtones and the other is on the sd card which is /storage/Your-USBs-Name and you'll see notifications and ringtones folders in the list check in those.

I don't have anything beyond storage/emulated...
I do have
/system/media/audio/notifications
/system/media/audio/pensounds
/system/media/audio/ringtones
/system/media/audio/ui
These all have .ogg files in them.
I have
/sdcard/Ringtones
The notification sound in WCWHTNEW.mp3 and my ringtone is nuance.mp3. I have used multiple programs to search for these files, which work, but nothing finds them but they must exist on the phone somewhere...

Not the system folder you need to tell root explorer to open the local storage tab by opening it then hitting the blue + circle and it'll give you a list select the local storage which is /storage/emulated/0
Looked in a Root Explorer

I guess they changed it in the updated version.. I would search in there and see if you can find anything.
