Can not find notification sound - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I have a Note8 and the audio notification sound is one I copied to it when I originally got the device. The OS has been upgraded multiple time since, but the audio notification has always stayed the one I copied to the device. Now I can not find the audio file in any search using My Files, ES explorer or Root Explorer. The filename no longer shows up in the list of names to replace it either. Whichever folder I placed this file in, there are a couple others in it as well and they don't show up in the any of my searches as well. However, the file I am looking for does trigger when it should, I just can't find its location. Can someone help me find my missing, but existing audio files?

Which areas have you checked? Usually those flies are found in either the internal memory of the phone which is /storage/emulated/0/media/audio and you'll see 3 folders which are contacts, notifications and ringtones and the other is on the sd card which is /storage/Your-USBs-Name and you'll see notifications and ringtones folders in the list check in those.

I don't have anything beyond storage/emulated...
I do have
/system/media/audio/notifications
/system/media/audio/pensounds
/system/media/audio/ringtones
/system/media/audio/ui
These all have .ogg files in them.
I have
/sdcard/Ringtones
The notification sound in WCWHTNEW.mp3 and my ringtone is nuance.mp3. I have used multiple programs to search for these files, which work, but nothing finds them but they must exist on the phone somewhere...

Not the system folder you need to tell root explorer to open the local storage tab by opening it then hitting the blue + circle and it'll give you a list select the local storage which is /storage/emulated/0

Looked in a Root Explorer

I guess they changed it in the updated version.. I would search in there and see if you can find anything.

Just thought I would enlighten others on how to accomplish this!
I used three files from my XP system: moricons.dll, pifmgr.dll, and shell32.dll. All these files can be found under c:\windows\system32. Basically, just copy these files to your device's \windows directory. Then, use the icon shortcut file in the Games folder and edit them as you would like.
Here's how I have mine setup:
Applications: 1#shell32.dll,-278
GPS: 1#pifmgr.dll,-35
Internet: 1#shell32.dll,-14
Multimedia: 1#shell32.dll,-41
References: 1#moricons.dll,-108
Utilities: 1#shell32.dll,-274
Edit the icon files as shown and place them in respective folders. That is it! I left the Games and Office folders as they were.
Note: shell32.dll is pretty big (around 8.5MB). In case you already did not know this, enjoy this tip.

And how do you read the icons from the DLL file?
You can't guess that you have to use -14 for an internet icon. Do you read the DLL's on your pc, or can you do that from your PPC?

Isn't this like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut? 8.5 MB just for a few icons. I'm sure a smaller solution is possible.

Haha...of course! I just tried it at work this morning. I will definitely be looking into smaller dll files for this once I get off work.

Just a quick thanks to sherpa, wizzzard, and vijay555 for the info on how to change icons...works great on AT&T Tilt, and in QuickMenu 2.7!

submenus in start menu?

Hello,
Ive been looking for a way to make submenus in start menu,
is it possible?
I would guess quick menu is the thing you are looking for
Search the developement and hacking forum!
no, its not what i meant
the option i found related to quick menu in search is the little menu on the right that shows the applications currently running on device.
What i want is the ability to explore beyond start > programs,
for examples to be able to open another popup window with the icons and folders inside programs,
or start > settings > Connections
like when you go on your PC to start > programs and see all your programs installed.
that kind of thing.
is it possible?
Wisbar has this functionality. You can try it.
there isnt some built in feature?
i dont want to take ram for full applications running in the background
there is no patch or registery edit for that option?
you could try creating a new folder in windows/start menu/
not sure if it will work, but worth a go.
+1 to quick menu
Definitely quick menu.
Yes it has the task manager thingy on the right hand side, but it also changes that default behaviour of the start menu

As you can see, it allows you to browse all the folders in the menu right from the start button.
you can get it from http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-quickmenu-v2-7.html
The problem of quick menu is that it is small... so hard to use with the finger...
The only thing i found was given : create a new folder. Than when you click on it it will open a window ( i know it's not perfect... ) but you will have access to many programs.... put some links in this folder...
Didn't find better for now
Ciao

Wisbar has an option to have a large start menu, with the functionality you want. And frankly, it's not that memory intensive.
Ok i have done it. Actually last night on my sister's Ignito.
Its a long process but works. You have to use Resco Explorer to navigate to Windows/start menu. In that folder you will see Programs and Settings Folder. Add new folders here such as Travel, Web, System, AV, etc. Make sure hidden files and files in rom are shown in Resco options. Open Programs folder and copy the Office Mobile and Games folder shortcuts. Go back to Start menu folder and paste those shortcuts there. You will now have Travel, Web, System, AV, Office Mobile and Games folders. Go back to Programs folder and now you have to select and copy all the relevant shortcuts and paste them into the appropriate folders in the start menu folder. Its a bit of a chore but only needs to be done once. Exit Resco Explorer. Open Settings and go to Menu icon. Now uncheck all the apps that are ticked to show in the start menu. All boxes should be clear. Now when you click on the Start menu, only folders should show and you can open any up to show only apps releated to its category. Programs folder will show everything. The only thing to maintain is when you install a new app, remember to go back into explorer and copy the shortcut file from the programs folder to the relevant new folder. Likewise when you uninstall an app, delete the shortcut from the relevant folder using explorer.
This way you keep the large finger friendly menu.
I have done this for years on my phone. Works well.
QuickMenu 2.7 is the go...best price as well
hello everyone ,
i installed quick menu..but it removed the htc task manager on the top left of the screen..is there a way to have quick menu and the htc task manager ?
Don't think so. You have to desinstall Quick menu. Then go to Settings/System/Task Manager and button.
I'm getting an error message...
Load qmenubtn.dll failed!
Please resetup this program and try again.
All the files are in a single folder (1 exe and 2 dlls).
Help!

[APP/GAME] Beats (DDR Clone)

If you happen to look through the XDA Portal from time to time, you see some posts referencing some cool Android apps and games. I came across this one by Keripo and thought you guys might like to try it out. I think it's great.

The game currently doesn't support the direct downloading of song packs just yet, but that will be added in the next version (1.1b). But here is the way to add more songs for the time being. This is taken from the BeatsIIDX website:

Installing Stepfiles
Posted by Keripo on 2010-10-19 02:05:00 BST
For this beta release, you must manually install the songs. Future releases may have an integrated pack installer.
Once you have downloaded a song pack (from any of the above links), follow the following instructions:
1) Connect your phone to your computer and put it in USB mode.
2) Download a song pack in .zip/.rar/.smzip format from any of the above locations (or just use Google)
3) Use a file archiver (e.g. 7-zip/WinRar/WinZip) to extract the pack's content to your computer.
4) Copy the extracted folders into your phone's "Beats/Songs" folder. (Should be located on the root of your internal sd card)
5) Disconnect your phone and start up Beats on your phone
6) Use the "Select Music" menu item to navigate to the folder you just copied over, then navigate around and select a stepfile ending with '.sm'.
7) Press the "MENU" button to select stepfile difficulty and press the 'Start' menu item to play your song. If you have the "Auto-Play" setting enabled, the song will instead start automatically.
Note: Beats currently does not support .dwi files so if your song pack uses .dwi files, you must convert them to .sm files using StepMania. See the StepMania website for instructions. There is also the .ogg sync bug (see Android Issue #11590), so if your songs are encoded in .ogg, use a media convert/player such as foobar2000 to convert it to standard .mp3 format.

Lol stepmania port.
And a good one at that. V1.1b came out today in the market.
Sent from my Captivate
Thanks for this, it's a freakin sweet game! It'd be cool if the tracks were longer, other than that I love it! There's an abundance of songs you can download for it, plus it's free so I mean no one can complain about it.
RIP Stepmania 2004-2007.
Not trying to downplay this game at all, but what ever happened to the idea of an osu! port? If that's not gonna happen, the devs for Beats could look at their song installation system on the iphone for ideas

THC HD7 ring tons HOW

how to set up own ringtone mp3
its nots possible yet
Welcome to the enthralling world of a closed OS.
There was a post on one of the forums I read(don't remember which one) that stated there is a way to set a song as the ringtone while playing it. I don't know how true that is.
Also, here is an excerpt from Microsoft regarding rintones:
To find a ringtone in Marketplace
1
On Start, tap the arrow to go to the App list, then tap Marketplace .
2
Press the Search button.
3
Do one of the following:
•
To browse a variety of ringtones, type ringtones, then tap Enter .
•
To look for a more particular type of ringtone, type something more specific, like Halloween ringtones.
Tip
To hear what a ringtone or alert sounds like, tap Play .
Note
Marketplace may not be available in your country or region.

Sounds like they want you to purchase them from the Marketplace.
Please post in the proper sections on XDA-Developers.
To the HD7 area.

i tried the reg mod that lets the zune show up on the pc as a drive - its ment to let you use a zune as an external drive
anyway the reg edit let the hd7 show up on the "computer" page along with my hard drives
no file structure was visible tho so i couldn't browse to see any folders - i tried copying an mp3 onto the root but it wouldn't copy over
anyone else tried any thing or had better luck ?
Edit
forgot to say that the hd7 showed up as 2 drives guessing one is the phone and the other is the card

Excellent input. Thanks for the tip, one_mad_punk.
We know that WP7 formats the microSD card when you perform a hard reset.
NTFS ? FAT32 ? other type ?
Now we have to find the key to see its file system.
I've read that the phone stripes data across the builtin storage and the card. That means you won't be able to read anything off of them individually. They would have to be read in tandem at a binary level.
As far as I know the stripping info hasn't been confirmed by MS. The phone boots even without a card in it so it can't be stripping all of the builtin storage.
If you take the storage required for the phone OS away from what is built in I wouldn't have thought there would be very much left to make stripping worthwhile.
So ... maybe the phone only does stripping on phones like the Focus where two microSD cards may be present.
Who knows.

[Q] Where is the audio UI folder now located?

Hello!
Wonder if I could get some help with making some changes to my phone as I did on my Note 2 and android versions before KitKat?
I never cared for the "drip/drop" sound that Samsung has for default on their phones. I found that I could replace those sounds with one of my choice in previous versions of Android. With ROOT access, I used to navigate to System/Media/Audio/UI and change 2 files - TW_Touch.ogg and S_HW_Touch.ogg. NOW... Fast forward to KitKat and my Note 4. I was going to do that to my Note 4 when I realized that with KitKat, the file structure is different. Now there are separate folders in Storage/emulated/0.... one for Ringtones, one for Alarms, one for Notifications. However I don't see one for UI (guess that's not too surprising since not many may want to change things there...) Is there still a UI folder somewhere, and if so, where is it? OR.... where would I now find those two files to replace so that I can change the "drip" default sound when you tap anywhere on your screen. Thank you in advance.

Cannot Change Ringtone?
Ringtone Change
Note 4: SM-N910T
Android Version: 5.0.1
Baseband Version: N910TUVU1COG2
Kernel Version: 3.10.40-4739134
Build Number: LRX22C.N910TUV1COG2
For some unknown reason I have lost the capability to change my ringtone to a song (MP3 file) that I have used on my Note 2, Note 3 and this Note 4 for years. I have tried many times by going into:
Settings
Sound and notifications
Ringtones
Media Storage
And see Ringtones in the System- Media-Ringtones File (.ogg files)
I try to ADD and then get: Complete action using: with various apps shown such as:
ES File Explorer, Total Commander, Sound Picker, Pick Audio Track and Dropbox.
I have tried to add the song that I want using ES File Explorer and Total Commander which does play when I try to add the song. However, when I return to Sound and notifications, the original ringtone options are still the same without the song (MP3) I tried to add.
I have tried to ADD using: Sound picker and Pick audio Track and nothing shows up as these are both empty. I don’t know where Sound picker/pick audio track is located to move/copy the MP3 file into one of those locations.
I have not used Dropbox as I do not use Dropbox.
I have even tried to copy and move the song into:
System-Media-Ringtones (file) and that will not allow me to do so. I get the display:
Copy/Move Task failed: /system/media/audio/ringtone/Aquarius1.mp3: open failed: EROFS (Read only file system)
Again I know the MP3 file works as a ringtone because I have used it many times and even use if for Contacts.
What am I doing wrong?
How can I get that ringtone back?
Any help will be appreciated.

For some reason on my lineage 17 system the folder was moved to
