good morning!
I'm running the stock lollipop rom on my rooted VS980, and though I'm in an area that supposedly has very strong LTE signal, i commonly
find that I am on 3G or worse. I wanted to look at the APN settings to see if there might be a better setup, but when i go into the APN
settings options, i don't see a way to add a new APN or edit the existing one. Any idea on how to do this?
thanks in advance!

I need a little help. I'm making the jump from unlocked iphones to the Nexus One and have a newly acquired nexus one that has already been rooted and set with the 2.2 Froyo rom, and what I am told is the most popular Cyanogen HTC rom. The 2.2 Froyo rom seems to work perfectly, but my preference is the HTC ROM listed under my back up as BOS-20100531-0408. When I am running this ROM, I am unable to connect to 3G, or edge for that matter. (wifi connects fine) I have attempted the simple steps of dialing *#*#4636#*#* and changing the setting from WCDMA preferred to WCDMA Only, but this has had no effect. I lose signal for a second, then my bars come back, but no 3G and no edge. I am certain this is a T-Mobile model Nexus and I have the appropriate internet package as well. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Thank you.
update: The 3G works fine under Froyo, just not the HTC incase that wasn't clear. Thank you.
You need to enter your APN settings on the HTC ROM.
Okay, I have gone into settings, wireless & networks, mobile networks, Access Point Names, and the screen is an empty black. How do I add an APN? Is this the appropriate location? Thank you for your help.
3G issues
Okay, so I went into the APN blank screen, selected the menu on the phone and added the APN info I found on a website after a quick google search. I was going to post the link here, but I am apparently restricted from doing so because I am new. Now I have an H with arrows under it next to my service bars. Is this the same as 3G? I am unfamiliar with the H with arrows under it, but it seems pretty quick. I believe there is another page on xda that states it is as good, or better than 3G, is this correct? Thanks again.
Hi,
I just got my N1 and I'm very disappointed. As soon as I got it i updated to 2.2. For some reason I can't get 3G, it defaults to Edge. Does anyone know of a way to work around it so I can get my 3G speed?
Thanks In advance
Did you make sure your ordered the right N1? For Fido I would think you need the Rogers AT&T model as opposed to the T-Mobile one.
Also go into your dialer, type *#*#4636#*#*, go to phone information and loo at Set preferred network type and see what it says there but those things rarely get changed, if it doesn't say WCDMA preferred that'd be weird unless you wee already tinkering with the settings.
If it says GSM only than that would be your issue, set it to GSM Auto (PRL) which generally gives better battery than WCDMA preferred. Alternatively you can test setting it to WCDMA only which would force it into 3G mode but then if you don't pick up a 3G signal, you won't get anything at all which is what im betting will happen in your case.
Thanks.
It was set to WCDMA prefered. I set it to GSM auto like you suggested.
So are you saying there's nothing I can do to get 3G to work on this phone with Fido?
You can also try double checking the APN settings. Here is how:
1. Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
2. Press the Menu button > New APN
3. Name: set it to anything like "Fido 3G"
4. APN: internet.fido.ca
5. Usename: fido
6. Password: fido
7. APN Type: default
8. Leave everything else as is
9. Press Menu button > Save
10. Now from the list, tap the radio button next to this new APN created.
Give it couple minutes, and it should switch to 3G.
Let me know if that fixes it.
Already tried that and it didn't make a difference.
Thanks

That's it, most probably. Especially if you have the Developer N1 (you just got it, so if you got it new, you definitely got a wrong one).
In this case, you'll see no 3G.
I believe after the 2.2 update, The APN is automatically generated by the phone.

There are 2 different Nexus models. Look it up.
I obviously know there is 2 models he was talking about the wap and GPRS APN , all i said was my phone gets the correct 3G APN.
so i got my tablet back up and running, but its not showing any signs of Cellular life
i flashed CWM7 and i have it up and functioning. i have the stock AT&T modem from the [MODEMS] list, should i apply a different one?
i have the APN settings correct, however, i'm not sure why the tab isnt registering on the network?
i just wanted to post a quick update on this.
i did have wrong APN settings :/ i was using a APN for a phone vs just mobile broadband data.
So today my atrix did something odd. I walked up to my phone turned it on and the symbol for the data had changed to 4Glte but wasn't showing that it had connected. I downloaded LTE Settings off the play store and set it the way I've seen some people say to do it on T-mobile, which is the GSM/WCDMA auto (PRL) but now the logo went back to just 4G. I saw someone say to change the APN settings to fast.tmobile.com but mine shows epc.tmobile.com and it won't let me edit it. Am I missing something?

Create a new APN and copy the other settings. The same thing happened to me in Hollywood, CA the other day but I couldn't get data with either APN.
I'll try it out after work see if maybe I can get it working. At least keeping the auto prl I have data

I still couldn't get data last night. I noticed today while playing with APNs that even if I selected my custom LTE APN, it would revert back to the original APN. So I modified my custom APN to match these settings and drove today to an area with LTE signal and I was finally able to get data.
I apologize in advance if this has been addressed before. I'm running stock-rooted 5.0, stock kernel, and what I think(?) might be the radio for 5.0.1 I'm not sure... APN settings are correct and in the *#*#4636#*#* Phone Info menu I'm using LTE/GSM/CDMA Auto (PRL). Do I need to double check my radio or do something else? I'm on T-Mo with the TRULY Unlimited data plan. Any suggestions?

Are you sure there is no LTE. I believe come of the notification icons are finicky. In other words, on mine someone it will show extremly low service bars but does not affect my phone? or data in any noticable way. Also are you in a bad service area?
What does the top right say? Have you received lte on previous devices being in the same location where you are now?

Radio for 5.0.1 ends with .04R. Do you ever show LTE in settings, see my screenshot. I've got Verizon obviously but with TMo you should get LTE too. If you have another phone stick the sim card in it and see if you get LTE in the other phone. If not could be the sim. Could be bad signal area too. FWIW TMo LTE is band 4 and soon to come band 12.
Wow. Thanks all for responses. @vvveith I am in an excellent service area LTE for miles! @zephiK Yes I used data over LTE on my Nexus 5 just fine. @jawmail Yes my radio ends with .04R. Sadly I do not have another phone nor SIM card adaptor to try your method with. Would the newer radio make my data signal fluctuate b/w 3G, H, and LTE? I understand that this is a different phone but I swapped radios on the Nexus4/5 all the time and it never hurt anything.

1) Did you get LTE on the 5.0 Radio?
2) Try setting it to LTE/GSM auto (PRL) instead
3) When you say APN is correct. Which one are you using / looking for? Ensure it is T-Mobile 4G LTE IPv6 (if its already on IPv6 try IPv4)
If worst comes to worst, go to the T-Mobile store and get a free SIM card replacement, if they don't want to give you a free SIM. Give them a call, it'll take a couple days to arrive but T-Mo employees are quite nice about giving SIM cards. Especially since you paid for a N6 which is expensive.

1.)Yes i did and it was much more reliable.
2.)Overnight I switched b/w those two settings and kept getting the same result.
3.)I switched the APN to IPV4/6 and that seemed(?) to have solved it.
This has been going on for a couple days so I might see if I can get a new SIM.

You had it right, its under more > cellular > access point names (APN), then select your carrier.

For the rom I am on I don't see under cellular the option for APN. Do I have to be back to factory to see it.

With custom Roms its hard to say. Safest answer would be yes go to factory
