Hello,
I recently bought a Z3C from o2 and I'm loving it in many aspects, but it's simlocked - [X] Network 0
Q1: If I update the firmware to a newer version - my current version is 23.1.A.1.28 - it will reset or give me more tries to unlock it? If not, is it possible to reset the counter? How do I do it?
Q2: I read a few months ago that if you root or update Z3's firmware, the camera loses an algorithm and consequently loses quality. Is it true? Is there a way to avoid it?
Many thanks!
with regards to your simlock question it will not give no more tries, so only a flash unlock method will work. and regards to your second question, I'd keep the phone unrooted as image comparison does show quality loss especially in low light.
Rooting does not break low light conditions photo quality, only unlocking bootloader does. So, if you just root your phone and use sony firmware you are safe ?
Thank you. It seems it will be a drama to sort my simlock. :crying:
Is it possible to flash unlock at home?
UPDATE: Got in touch with Sony and they may charge me 'around' £30 to unlock it.

Hi all, probably been asked and answered many times but Id like an up to date answer please..
New Z3 Compact arrived today (secondhand off ebay UK), it was Vodafone but I unlocked it and to my surprise, it has a locked Boot Loader that "can't" be unlocked as I really want ROOT and always had a rooted Android since I can remember! Sony seems to be different in this sector and might have to sell it otherwise which would be a shame!...
Any fixes for this issue, being September 2015? Cheers in advance.

I got mine from O2 and it can't be bootloader unlocked, but I still managed to root it. Followed the steps here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
Which lets you root and take a copy of the DRM keys, you should not bootloader unlock it first as it wipes the DRM keys permanently, resulting in the loss of the camera low light algorithms and Bravia engine software.

Thanks mate I will give that a go! Found the Vibration doesn't work either so might go back anyway if Root doesn't work lol...
Hello,
I find the rooting thing very confusing.
I have a locked bootloader, is there any way to root my device without unlocking the bootloader? (for example with oneclickroot)
If I unlock the bootloader, what functionality do I lose?
If I understand it clearly, I need to unlock the bootloader, then fastboot the TWRP recovery and then within the recovery I can flash the supersu.zip package?
Also, do I need a kernel with the Sony security disabled if I just want to root the stock ROM? (SONY RIC, SELinux)
I hope someone can clear these things up for me....
Thanks in advance.
By unlocking BL you lose X-reality,Bionz and some sound fuctions if I'm not mistaken but I think there is a way to restore them

I unlocked my BL long time ago just because I needed root, I wanted so bad because I need to install cerberus antithief app and some other features.
Then noticed that camera was so slow, video is so lag, so better don't use it and record videos, somethimes color has a lot of contrastbut automatically goes normal, in sound quality and calls I really didn't notice anything bad.
Now that I upgrade to the last firmware, ther is no safe way to root it again, untill now I think I should never unlock my BL...
I have the dual version E6533.
With galaxy and htc I could play around with Sony z3 and plus no root without sacrifying basic functionality... Next phone will be a galaxy s7 or iPhone 7... If possible both... Galaxy for sports iPhone for business and non sports
Basically, there's no way to root any Xperia devices since the Z3+ generation with BL locked. Beacuse Sony update their BL so that you can't replace the kernel even if you rooted the system.
Hello sorry for my bad english. I have a problem where my camera refuses to focus. now you may think "yeah he probably has bootloader unlocked or something" but thats not the case. my bootloader is locked and is not available to unlock. i have tried to reset the phone. tried a software repair. i tried downgrading to earlier firmwares. i tried cleaning cache and appdata for the app. i tried pretty much everything. Bootloader unlock allowed? NO: Root? NO
i would be happy if someone could help me and i cannot unlcok the bootloader either. i have the sony xperia z3+ single sim E6553 with marshmallow 6.0.1

Some phones cannot be rooted.
Have you enabled OEM Unlocking in the developer options?
Have you checked that your phone can be unlocked?
Open the phone and dial *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu. Then look under Service info/Configuration
Rooting Status:
Bootloader unlock allowed: No
If the phone has been locked by the service provider before sending it to you, there's little you can do. Some providers do this to stop returns 'waaa, I unlocked my phone and now it's broke'
If both of these are ok, then it's most likely a driver issue, Windows10 is notorious for not installing drivers, but not giving you an error that it didn't. Boot into safe mode and use 'driver signing disabled' to get the drivers to work.
Also Windows assigns the wrong drivers by default, so connect the phone is fastboot mode, go the device manager, find the phone and manually update the driver.
You might need the Sony driver
Bootloader unlock is allowed
unlock is allowed downloaded driver will update after next attempt flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/48559170576/in/datetaken-public/
@ZCustomComputers, just backup your locked TA before unlocking the bootloader - see here for the guide.
Possibly you even would not need to reflash/downgrade stock fw to get temproot for drm keys backup as it seems you are running the supported version already.
That is a lot of information I am going to have to rehearse before I am comfortable enough to attempt all of this so as to not make a mistake I am having some other pressing matters at the moment not pertaining to anything related to these that are higher priority so I will have to come back to this at a later time in the very near future. Thank you all for your help and please do keep this thread active so I may come back to it I will return as soon as I can.
Again Thank You
I am going to unlock boatloader on my xz2,will it cause any function like camera lost?
I also want to know that I can receive ota update or not after unlock.
Thanks for helping
camera will work if you unlock on latest firmware but quality may degrade and ota isn't possible after unlocking so I'd recommend to keep it locked
