Hangouts battery consumption - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello ,
During the last 5 days (or so) , i have unusual high consumption from the hangouts app.
The thing is that i never use it for my sms messages , and i never even tap it (to open).
It is working in the background and it seems i can't do anything about it.
The issue remains even after a reboot. The greenify app cann't find the hangouts app so i can freeze it.
Any ideas ?
Edit: Stock 5.1.1 and rooted

facebook goes mad!

This morning I noticed that my NS suffered a heavy slowdown in web page rendering, got laggy keyboard and the whole system was draining battery like hell! So I opened the "show CPU usage" tool that figured out that the "Facebook.katana" process was using a HUGE part of the CPU. I FC'd it and everything went right as usual... anyone else suffering from this kind of bug?
Yes, It Happened to me too. FC seems to fix it. I'm now not getting any push notifications from the app. Are you?
I have this installed
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zomut.watchdoglite
And Facebook kept popping up from time to time for overcpu utilization.
I found it best just to use another application, Facebook s app has always been the suck
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I use the browser as it doesn't suck like the apps.
That watchdog app is a lifesaver!
i will install watchdog and see what happens... thanks
tho, the fb app worsens day by day...
lately I realise one thing, if I use the back button on the FB app, seems like it will not trigger the watchdog, however it will if I use the home button to "quit" the facebook app.

[Q] Text messaging apps taking up 50% CPU time?

Hello! I'm currently using (not the latest, but the version before) of the Alba ICS release. The strange problem I'm having is when I have any text messaging app open, it uses around 50% of my cpu, even when it's running in the background. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks!

Background apps

Hey everyone
I've LG optimus 2x and I'm really tired and frustrated of Facebook and messenger app running in background.
1) it uses a lot of ram in my memory and phone is really slow.
2) It dries a lot of battery. Horrible. Yesterday I've uninstalled facebook app from my phone and I could finally use my phone without any single lag. First time in a few months that I use this phone, after that. Usually battery goes on 99% in about standby, now my phone is already 4h on standby and it's still on 100%. Finally phone works as it should be
So, question is, is there any good app or way to stop running these apps in background? I've already tried service disable but when I disabled some services app crashes and it was useless. So cross app disable and autokill apps.
If your rooted you should try greenify or install a custom rom like tonyp's PA Rom.
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda app-developers app
force close
go to setting ,apps and force close it
I've already custom rom and still the same.

[Q] Contact Storage using HIGH CPU

Hey guys,
I did a through scan over the internet, and seems like I'm the only one with this issue, and Please guys help me to find a solution. You are the only guys i can really count on, and that is the reason why i post all my problems here.
Few days back i realized my phone keeps heating - while charging, standby, and the battery keeps draining no matter whether i charge it or not.
So i use this DU Battery saver and it showed "Android Core Apps" using the most Battery, so when i click it, it pops up the contact storage app which is running and when i force stop it, the phone seems to be fine for a few minutes. I also realized that my contact list is lagging recently with this issue.
So today i decided to clear data, and cache of contact storage, and then restore my contacts through a .VCF file which i did, but even though contacts were imported, no single contact was shown on phone. So i decided to factory reset my phone after backing up all data and therefore i reset my phone WITHOUT CLEARING THE INTERNAL STORAGE and it seem to fix the issue. But i restored all my contacts and apps and now again. the issue is back. It heats the phone and i have to stop the contact storage app and everytime i use the phone or go on my contacts, the phone starts to heat and kill the battery.
So guys... what should i do??
My phone is a Sony Xperia Z1 running android 4.4 and is not rooted.

It seems, that you have installed a app which cause the heating and the high CPU use.
Delete every unimportant App.
You can post a list of your installed Apps and maybe we find the cause together.

Many of your apps are unnecessary, uninstall some stuff you don't need. First bracket is whether its harmful or not. Second bracket is suggestion to remove. If your phone is still slow after removing mobiegenie and some apps, try following the second bracket.

App notification issues

Ok I'm new here, signed up just to get help with this, so here's my problem.
Just got a new phone, a Nexus 6 (not the 6p). Upgraded to Android 6.0. Previously had a Note 3 running kitkat. On my Note 3 if I got new posts to a thread I'm subscribed to on a forum I'm a member of, new messages on Instagram or new messages on kik my phone notified me that I had the message. The app didn't have to be running for this to work. With my Nexus 6 however that isn't the case!
Text messages, voicemails and emails all work fine and notify my just the way they should, it's only the 3rd party apps that don't work. I know it's not the apps because like I mentioned it's ALL the installed 3rd party apps doing this! It has to have something to do with the Nexus 6 or the Android 6.0 or a combination of the 2.
I scoured the web looking for answers, including this forum, and came up empty so here's the information that people usually ask for:
1) My phone isn't on silent or do not disturb mode
2) My volume is turned up
3) Sound and notification settings-App notifications are normal and allow peaking for the apps in question. Treat as priority if not on because I don't want the notifications when I'm sleeping but this shouldn't keep them from coming in normally when the volume isn't turned off.
4) Settings-Apps for each app the notifications ARE NOT blocked and allow peaking is on.
5) I enabled ALL requested permissions for each app just to make sure a blocked permission wasn't the problem.
6) I white listed each app from battery optimization to ensure this wasn't causing the problem.
7) Battery saver is not turned on.
8) Push notifications are turned on and allowed for each app in the settings on the app and the notifications sound in the app settings is my default notification, which is set because it's the same one I get when the app is running.
Someone please help! This is driving me crazy. Like I mentioned I get the notifications if I have the app running in the background but if the app is off I don't. On my last phone I didn't have to leave the app running 24/7, draining my battery, to get the notifications! Is there some way to fix this????
Also, I already wiped the system data partition.

Are you using a custom ROM or did you take an OTA to get to Android 6.0? I also wanted to ask if you were getting the proper notifications from using lollipop 5.1.1 while you were on it? If you took the OTA I'd suggest wiping app cache/data for kik and that MIGHT restore the kik functionality. If it works for that one app it may work for others.
You haven't installed a third-party notification system at all have you? Like Teslaunread or anything else that requests notification access on your device?

I know you said battery saver is not turned on now, but did you ever have it on? I ask because ever since I turned it on for a few hours (then turned it off and kept it off), 3rd-party notifications have been wonky.
No custom ROM, I took OTA to get to 6.0 but I didn't install any of the APP's prior to getting to 6.0 so I don't know if they would have worked with 5.1.1 or not unfortunately.
I do have Nova Launcher and use Teslaunread with that but I had that on my previous phone and it didn't interfere with any of my notifications coming through.
And yes the battery saver was on a couple times when the battery got low.
Ahhh see you are making a misconception. The app has to be running to get notifications. At least the service does. When you killed them with your old device it only removed them from your view. It didn't really close them out. Unlike stock Android. If you kill the app then it is really killed. Killing the app will also stop the service which prevents your notifications from coming in.
Your best bet is to leave it be.

Actually leaving it running in the back ground still won't give me the notification, I only get the notification when I click on the app and open it, even if it is listed as running in the background. I found that out because I did start leaving the apps running so I'd get the notifications, only to find out that didn't fix my problem like I thought it would.

Do you have greenify or any apps that effect doze installed?
Could have been an issue with the OTA, you could flash the Stock 6.0 image via Fastboot, it may be worth trying PNF on android play, i use the root version so not sure on the non root but it's stops delayed notifications.

I used greenify w/root on my last phone but not this one. I don't think any of my apps would affect doze and turned doze off for the apps I've had trouble with to try and make sure doze wasn't the issue. Still not luck.

I may try those option and see if they help. This is driving me crazy, I figured a newer operating system would mean a better android experience but so far I was a lot happier with kitkat than I have been with marshmallow.
