Incorrect world time zones - General Omni Discussion

(OmniROM Lollipop 5.1.1 Nightly)
Stock OmniROM clock app shows a lot of incorrect world time zones. Correct San Francisco time is GMT -7:00 but the clock app says it's GMT -6:00. Same thing happens to London, Miami, Moscow and so on.
It's not a bug related to daylight saving time, because Los Angeles time is correct unlike San Francisco. Maybe it's caused by incorrect 'tzdata', in this case OmniROM contains outdated or incorrect tzdata files which can be found in /system/usr/share/zoneinfo/ or /data/misc/zoneinfo/.
This bug makes clock app unusable. Correct time information is very crucial for clock app. Next OmniROM release must include latest tzdata files.

The problem relates to more than just the clock app.
I have freshly installed OmniROM 4.4.4-20150520-jflte-FINAL on my Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 and then configured the settings and have not installed other apps.
I can confirm that much of the time zone information present to select in the ROM is incorrect.

What carrier are you using? Do you have Settings > Date & time > Automatic time zone selected?
At least with T-Mobile, I have had problems associated with letting the carrier set my time zone.
I have no reason to believe that the ROM has the wrong time-zone information as it works as expected for both OmniROM 4.4.4 and 5.1.1 on several phones, as long as I take control of the time zone from T-Mobile or am on one of my other SIMs.
Edit: In looking at the OmniROM source, /system/usr/share/zoneinfo/tzdata comes from the (unmodified) AOSP sources from bionic/libc/zoneinfo/tzdata and I only see commits in the last couple years that are updates to new "official" versions of tzdata as they are released. Any problem with the tzdata would then impact most ROMs out there. If there was a problem, it wouldn't be isolated to a couple people, ROMs, or devices.

I am not using a carrier nor a SIM. Neither Automatic time zone nor Automatic date & time are set.
I have figured out the problem. It appears that although date and time information may be set manually, accounting for Daylight Saving Time is automatic based on the date and time, but such is not made obvious to the user. OmniROM automatically presents the GMT offset adjusted for Daylight Saving Time; so, for example, if the usually United States of America and Canada Central time were desired, its GMT offset would customarily be presented as GMT - 6, but would instead be presented as GMT - 5 in OmniROM if the currently set date and time is withing the defined period for Daylight Saving Time.
The OmniROM design for manual setting date and time is, in my opinion, of bad practice; if manual date and time configuration is optional, then whether or on an adjustment should be made for Daylight Saving Time should too be optional if such an adjustment is at all to be implemented.
I particularly prefer manually setting the date and time information in the following order: Time Zone, Date, and then Time.

It's not "The OmniROM design" - it's "The AOSP design" - we haven't made any changes to this functionality, and thus it behaves just like a Nexus.

This is in the wrong forum; reported.

Strangest behavior with Time Zone changing.

Hello to All.
I need to set the timezone to GMT+2 Helsinki.
For some reason the timezone will change back to GMT+2 Pretoria.
Phone: HTC Diamond
ROM: EnergyROM Series "Mercury" 21921
Radio: 1.09.25.23
This will happen as following:
1. Setting home time to Helsinki via START/SETTINGS/CLOCK & ALARMS
2. Opening clock via Manila and Helsinki is listed as my Local time
3. Closing Manila clock and opening right away – Home time is changed to GMT +2 Pretoria and all appointments have been shifted by one hour.
Automating Timezone is not checked.
Then I started to try some other options.
Marked Local time to :
GMT London - everything is ok, no change
GMT Casablanca – changing to GMT London
GMT +1 Paris – changed to GMT +1 W Centre Africa
GMT+2 Jerusalem – changing to GMT+2 Pretoria
GMT+2 Windhoek – changing to GMT+2 Pretoria
GMT+2 Minsk - ---
GMT + 3 Moscow – changing to GMT +3 Riyad
GMT+3 Tbilisi - changing to GMT +3 Riyad
GMT+3 Riyad – no change
GMT+3 Nairobi - changing to GMT + 3 Riyad
GMT+3 Baghdad – opening manila, it shows GMT+3 Riyadh, closing and reopening doesn’t cause any changes.
GMT+9 Seoul - ok
GMT +10 Guam – opening manila – it shows GMT+10 Brisbane
GMT+13 Tonga - everything is ok
Reinstalled ROM (having Energy Rom right now), Reinstalled Radio , no other software is installed.
I posted this problem to Energy rom thread as well. But it might not be rom issue.
So this is just madness… 
thank you for any response.
Try this cab, also go into the clock and set your local city from the weather tab to the top.

Thanks.
at the moment it fixed my calendar and general time. so it wont mess up anymore.
it still changes the default timezone, but now it changes from GMT+2 Helsinki to GMT+3 Riyad. As this is the same timezone as GMT+2 Helsinki in summer time, it'll be ok.

Was having teh same problem with the energy rom. Will this change anything when summer time ends? Will I have to run another cab or will the time change back an hour automaticly?
Thanks
Same problem here, after flashing EnergyROM. Timezone keeps on setting itself to GMT+2 Windhoek. I didn't like the RAM usage of the EnergyROM, so I flashed back to Gen.Y. The frustrating part is that the Timezone issue is now also present in the Gen.Y ROM
I even exported the registry from another Diamond running Gen.Y ROM (without problems) and imported this. But to no avail.
Any suggestions are welcome.
I had the same problem

International?
Cool app..
Been looking for something like this...
Only thing is, I don't think it supports radar images outside the USA, or does it?
I live in the UK, any chance of implementing UK radar images?
Can't get it to work
On My Fuze. Even with the GPS running (GPS Test shows active) the program just keeps searching for the GPS signal and never seems to connect or find the satellites when I hit update location & radar.

Same deal here. Raphael 800 (TouchPro), CDMA (Sprint), NFSFAN 110 rom. GPS seems to search forever with no result. PSBTW, yes I did verify the com port setting/baud rate.
Other than that, its an awesome idea. Would definitely fill a void in my arsenal. There are plenty of times in my travels I have no idea where I am, but have a need for knowing where the rain is in relation to me.
If there is anything I can do to assist with this application's development, let me know.

Bump this. The first time I started the program it found 3 sats, but cant find any now. GPS test showing 6 sats. Any ideas? I like the concept of the program.
Great App, thanks! I have not been able to connect to satellites either but I am not convinced its the app yet. Also I put in my city, state, and zip but it seems depended on GPS, it would be cool to have the option.

I agree that there should be an option to choose whether to use GPS for location or not. Not having such a toggle really makes most of the Settings useless.
I've also been unable to get the GPS portion working. GPS Test gets a fix in seconds, but it took this app a few minutes just to show anything, but I still couldn't get a fix.
But I must say, I really like this idea. I actually combined this into my TitaniumWeather 4.2 cab so I can have it all installed at once , replacing TitaniumRadar which was too difficult to use IMO.

It's possible if there is a similar webservice available that provides radar data for Europe. However satellite views should work as is.

Actually, now that you say that, it is working correctly. I just didn't understand what the options meant, I guess. That, and the first time I used it, the radar map seemed to stay in Oregon . But it appears to be working correctly now. Now, if only GPS location would work . . . (I have .NET CF3.5 cooked into my ROM, incidentally).
EDIT: You know why I thought it wasn't working right? I don't think the map always re-centers when you update based on Radar only. Or maybe it depends on what Zoom level is selected. I can see my selected city on the map, but it's not centered, at least not when I update in the 100 mile view.

This is probably due to last gps location saved in config file. If that's set to 0 it should recenter correctly. I'll have the option to edit it in the next version.
I too have been looking for something like this for quite sometime....... I travel alot on the motorcycle and it would be nice to know where I am in relationship to what isa coming my way.......or better yet going the other dirrection . If you need any help with this let me know......running AT&T Fuse and NATF 5.2 code..... Got as many as 4 satalites but really slow in finding them. Looking forward to next update!!!!
It appears V 1.1 is working very well. I really like the new options. It took about 15 sec. to find 6 satallites inside and about 45 seconds to lock and give me a location. All appears well initially. Great job.
I agree
Seems to be working very well so far. Similar results to Glide.
Cool program - works just fine on my Fuze. Thanks!
Great APP!
I created a cab that will merge this app with the Showaco's Titanium weather panel. I love this app! Great work!

Animated GIFs are not currently supported in Compact Framework, however you should be able to see animated radar online but going to Menu -> View -> Online.

System Time set wrong

Not sure if this is a known problem but ...
When setting the clock time, then selecting the correct ime zone, the GMT offsets are incorrect.
For example, when selecting the N.A. Eastern Time Zone, is sets the time for GMT -4 hours. This should be -5 hours!! Similar for many other tme zones.

[APP][Automate] Eye comfort mode between sunset and sunrise

I got annoyed that the eye-comfort mode could only be scheduled on fixed times and I had to constantly change them during spring and autumn.
So I made this simple flow for the Automate app - it is probably something like Tasker but it is free for a task with a few blocks - ideal for cheapskates like me.
I used this flow by Sándor Illés to calculate sunset and sunrise times.
The flow
It gets current location, calculates the times and then sets them up as schedule times (eye_comfort_starttime and eye_comfort_endtime system variables).
Then it waits for 1:00 (am) and starts over again.
I just tested it for 3 days and it runs ok on my View 10 with EMUI 9.1. No idea whether it works on older and newer versions or not. //edit: Works okay after EMUI 10 update too.
How to?
Basically, you install Automate, go to the settings and enable resuming flows after system startup.
Extract and install this flow, start it and it should daily update the schedule times.
You obviously also have to have eye-comfort schedule enabled.
On a related note: Stronger eye-comfort filter
I always felt that the blue light filter using eye-comfort is quite weak. During my search for correct variables to modify, I discovered that the highest value for filter you can select using the slider in the eye-comfort settings is 20, but you can dial the filter up to 50 and it gets slightly stronger then!
It is user_set_warm system variable.
Funnily enough, there are also eye_comfort_lesswarm and eye_comfort_morewarm variables which change the range of the slider in the settings.
You can set the eye_comfort_morewarm to 50 and then the slider in the settings will let you set the filter stronger. Higher values than 50 turn the filter off though.
The system variables can be modified using the "system settings set" block in the Automate or simply using SetEdit app. They can probably be changed using ADB too, but I didn't try that. Sadly these settings reset after reboot.
No root required for any of that.
Great stuff! Looking for the same feature on my Huawei phone but unfortunately, the file that you have attached has been removed. Could you upload it again? Thanks

Anyway, I reuploaded the file.
