After upgrading my stock turbo to the OTA 5.1.1 I've been experiencing wake locks or frozen screens about twice a day. It seems to happen when the lock screen is activated or when I quickly turn off and then on the screen.
I've wiped the partition twice and don't know what else to try. I'm using L Launcher full time but I reverted back to the stock launcher and the same thing happened within a few hours so I swapped back.
Is there some debugging log hiding somewhere?
Thanks!
Chad

So this was happening before but I factory reset my phone and now after about a week and a half it's happening again;
everytime i either go back to the previous screen, or while i'm on a loading screen (noticed it a lot with Netflix) but i get these green pixely squares that flash on my screen... this a known issue with the version? or should i take my phone back?
I'm not really sure how to better describe it...
Have yet to experience that, had my unit for over 2 weeks.
Take it back.

I have the same problem with mine had it since it came out?

I've had the same issue. Started happening within 2 weeks, but more recently it hasn't happened much. A battery pull always fixed it for me. I'm experiencing random reboots when the phone hasn't been touched for ten minutes, this is more disconcerting to me
I haven't noticed it after a reboot for a couple days now...
But i do remember almost directly after it first happened (before i did the factory reset) my phone started doing the whole random reboots too. That's when i read the post about fixing the camera and not using the assistant backup/restore functionality when you activate the account...
I thought it had fixed all the issues but seems they're still there just, less sever...
Rebooting the phone (temporarily) fixes the issue for me

I swear, after using the camera this happens. Until I reboot I get some kind of green checkerboard whenever the screen rotates or changes
Same here. Every time I use the camera and sleep the phone it will get hot and drain the battery. Waking the phone gives me green pixellated images and serious slowness. Battery pull after taking pictures is the only way to mitigate it...for now.

So this seems to be a common issue... has anyone been able to talk to motorola? is there an update coming out anytime soon to get it fixed? or is it just a hand full of bad phones?
smc, have you still not experienced any of these issues?
can you try seeing if it might happen after some of these scenarios listed in this thread? would be greatly appreciated!
As stated, screen will not go off via timeout or power button tap. Power button is recognized and will bring up shut down menu like normal.
Device is rooted (thanks DG) and had been running well for over a week. Defrosted all apps from tibu in case I got over zealous but no better. A factory reset has not cleared it up either. Hoping the oneclick from the root package will correct the issue, but thats not until I get home later this evening.
Has anyone experienced / recovered from this issue?
Smart stay is turned off
I've had noticeable lag like a few seconds and sometimes I wonder if it's going to shut off but it always does. Better set a dark lock screen wallpaper to conserve your battery

I know this is kind of basic, but what is your setting here:

Thanks for the thoughts.
I had already gone through the standard - double check the settings, remove recent apps. When all that failed and a factory reset still didn't clear it up I was beginning to worry about some kind of hardware damage (don't see how since I treat it better than my child ).
Fortunately the one click from the root seems to have restored proper operation. Back to rooting and rebuilding!

Click to collapse
I'm having the same problem, I rooted through vroot.... what do you mean one click fixed it little my incite would be helpful....
thank you
Mine just did this, scared the hell out of me It also didn't go into deep sleep before it started. (Not rooted).
Pulled the battery, waited 30 seconds, plugged it back in.... same thing. Waited a few minutes, seems to have sorted itself out.
Scary....
This is definitely a software bug and it is related to the Headphone detection bug that people are having too (it's actually the same bug causing both issues). This happens to me quite often after I restart my phone. It's kind of like the phone hangs during the startup process. I've also noticed that the wifi/bluetooth status that was present before restarting the phone (i.e. whether they on/off) doesn't get applied until the bug sorts itself out.
For me sometimes this works: open an app like Chrome and then hit the home button to get back to your launcher. This works 95% of the time for me. I'm wondering if it has something to do with not having Touchwiz set as the default launcher.
I'm experiencing this same problem. If I don't manually turn the screen off by tapping the power button, the screen will not timeout.
I'm using a stock, rooted, manually debloated 5.1 system image that has incorporated some audio mods. Every once in a while, I'll notice that after waking my phone up, I'll get a redraw. I'm using the stock launcher. Here's what I've tried to get rid of them:
1. Just about everything you can think of involving the Google App (clear data, clear cache, uninstall and reinstall, etc.)
2. Switching to the Google Now launcher and back again.
3. Booting into safe mode and back again.
4. Reverting to the rom that doesn't have the audio mods that I implemented (at least I think I implemented them. I'm not sure how or if I can tell the difference).
5. Clearing cache from recovery about a million times.
Has anyone run into this problem and solved it?
The same behavior occurs on the Moto Maxx with 5.0.2. I was really hoping that it would have been fixed in 5.1.x.
I just flashed 5.1 the other day (using CF's image). I do get frequent redraws of the home screen and icons. I just installed Nova launcher thinking it was an issue with GNL.
I am seeing this on my Turbo since going to the OTA 5.1. with Nova. I don't seem to see it with Action Launcher 3 on the Turbo though. I also see it on my Nexus 7 2013 with 5.1.1 with Nova. Again I don't seem to see it with Action Launcher 3 on the Nexus.
I've noticed that it happens less and less frequently the longer I've been running this rom. Maybe it's just an android thing.
I did notice one thing.... I have turned off the google search bar that shows at the top of each screen by default. However every time I unlock the screen, it flashes the Google search box momentarily, then it disappears.
Also during phone calls, sometimes the bottom right part of the screen will flicker
I turned off Moto Display and the issue is completely gone. But I'm so used to unlocking my phone without having to use the power button that I really want it back
It is a Moto Display issue for sure. I have been experimenting lately and have discovered if I use only swipe for locking that once in a while when unlocking the phone I will have to do the android unlock after the Moto Display unlock. If I use smart lock associated with my Moto 360 watch those same times I'd get the second unlock I get a home screen redraw instead.
So come on Motorola - fix the problem! It is not just the Turbo/Maxx that has the problem. It is the Moto X etc as well.
Has anyone else had problems with auto screen rotation, mine has twice now in 4 days started either getting stuck in landscape mode or would start rotating back and forth by itself,I fixed it for now by clearing cache, but curious if anyone else has had this issue.
I have the same problem on 910c variant, even factory reset does nothing, I hope it is not a faulty hardware
Ditto on my 910T3 TMo. Stock rooted. Auto screen rotate stopped working 2 days ago.
I have wiped cache and dalvik.
I have tested sensors with other apps (they work).
I have run self tests (dial *#0*#)
I disabled all Xposed modules
I tried 3rd party screen rotation app
None of these have resolved the problem.
Also tried wiping Dalvik and cache and reflashing the kernel.
That didn't fix the issue either.
the problem seems to happen when the phone is hot, because when I wake up In the morning I turn it on and doesn't have the problem
I have the same exact issue. I've replaced my phone 3 times because of it. BTW I'm on 910T.
Hopefully this new software update that just rolled out fixes this issue.
I also noticed when in the camera app, if i rotate the phone between portrait and landscape, the controls on the screen rotate appropriately.
So again, that verifies the sensors are working and it isn't a hardware issue for me.
Also tried using stock launcher, but no change.
Am about ready for a factory reset.
I've experienced this also but I thought/think it was a Nova launcher bug that seems to have corrected itself.
Since the recent update everything has been running fine. So far I haven't gotten the screen rotation issue!
It used to happen at least 2 times a day. I think it might just be a software based issue.
SM-N910T still on 5.0.1 stock having the same issues. It gets stuck in landscape, stays stuck in over landscape position.
I ended up doing a factory wipe and updating to the stock rooted DOK2 rom that just came out.
So far no issues and screen rotation is working (along with several other nuisance issues that went away).
Just as an update I lost screen rotation on DOK2 stock rooted ROM. However, I believe it may have been related to some debloat cleanup I was doing.
Under Ti Backup I searched for "facebook" and manually forced uninstall of the 4 "system" apps that came up.
I don't know what any of those would have to do with screen rotation, but one of them does.
I was not able to successfully restore those files via Ti Backup either, so ended up dirty flashing the same DOK2 zip file to restore them.
That fixed it. So rather than forcing uninstall of those files I just removed updates and disabled them via the android app manager.
So far so good.
For a while now, my note will freeze on screen rotate.
In the beginning it will unfreeze after 2, 3 seconds but in time it will take longer and longer (sometimes 10 seconds or more) until at some point when it will restart by itself.
After restart everything is fine for a few hours but it will start freezing again sooner or later.
It's running stock Oreo with Nova launcher.
It's not rooted or anything else.
Any ideas?
Thank you
I have no ideas, but it wows me, what stupid problems some users are experiencing. It shouldn't be happening.

First off, try disabling Nova launcher & see if the issue is gone. If not try booting to safe mode & test again.
Ok, i'll try switching to the stock launcher for a while.
Time to do some reading for safe mode
