I EDITED the whole post to better explain the issue.
Okey, first of all I already try to use the search function with no luck (I found a similar case but he flashed with adb to solve it and that would void my warranty).
Today I received a moto x (it should be new) and I updated it to 4.4.4
The phone freeze itself whenever he wants and the only way to keep using it is to lock and unlock it.
By freez I mean I can't control it, I will try to explain:
I loose control over the touch, if I'm in a game that use the sensors (like riptide GP) I sitll can play it moving the phone with no glitch in the game, but I can't use the turbo or breaks, since I need to touch the screen. When this happens, sometimes the phone goes crazy and start touching everything, it makes the notification bar go down, make his way to desktop, go to settings and change everything (all of this with the phone factory reseted 30 mins ago, just installed es file explorer and installed one game, didn't updated anything).
This also hapened in stock 4.2, I suposed that an update would solve the problem, I have the 5.1 OTA available but I'm afraid to make the update and still have the issue.
I already made a full wipe.
Update:
It seems that this happens mostly when the phone is under heavy use of some app, mostly when it heats a little.
I found no problem in safe mode, but there is no heavy use app comming with the phone, so I can't test much further.
Thanks for your answers!
I would try a factory reset, you don't need an unlocked bootloader to do that. If that does not fix the issue, then your Moto X has a hardware problem.
I already did a factory reset, and wiped cache also, but the problem is the same, and it happens much frecuently when in games =S
I'm very sad that this may got no solution.

However ironic the title may be, I updated my fiance's non-rooted N1 to the official release froyo and from the very beginning, it will work for a few seconds, then it will just freeze for a few minutes. I have patiently gone through and stopped almost every process, and nothing will fix it. It still just freezes constantly and usually requires a battery pull to get it to work at all. I told her she could try a factory reset, but she would rather just go back to 2.1-update1. I'm going to try renaming 22607-ERD79-update-nexusone-stock-signed.zip (or PASSIMG_Passion_Google_WWE_1.01.1700.1_ERD79_release_signed.zip) to update.zip and reflashing it in the stock bootloader on her phone, but I feel like that won't work because it is a previous version and not really an update. Does anyone have any advice on how to just bring her back, or perhaps how to fix her freezing problems on froyo?
Thanks
Try a fresh flash with no apps installed and see how its doing.... if it doesn't freeze then its a app probably ...
I'd like to try that, but she doesn't want to do a fresh install. I'd imagine that if an app didn't freeze 2.1, it wouldn't freeze 2.2. Besides, 2.2 freezes even after killing all applications and services.
I guess I'm really looking for advice on getting it back to 2.1 without rooting her phone.

Just do a factory reset in settings and security ... no reflash. Just cause a app didn't freeze 2?1 doesn't mean it wont freeze 2.2. And even if the apps currently not running or closed, it'll still wack ya phone. I had a freeze every hour yesterday with my chosen apps installed, flashed 3 different times to no avail. Now I factory reset with only 4 definitely needed apps installed and haven't gotten a freeze yet. So my conclusion is 2.2 doesn't like something I've installed so I'm adding a few apps every hour to fins the cause.
Since I factory reset with my few apps. I haven't had a freeze yet all night and morning long..
I'm having the same issue too. Not sure what is going on with FRF91, but my phone keeps freezing and I need to pull the battery to get it to respond again. I agree it very well could be an application, but installing every application one by one and testing would be a pain. Is there a better way to figure out what is causing the phone to lock up? Any time of log on the phone that would be helpful?

Have you tried a factory reset? That might fix it... let us know what you find. I've noticed a couple of freezes as well, but I'm not able to factory reset it just yet because I'm out of town and don't want my phone down for even half an hour.
I have to pull battery a couple of times a day.
I'm having the same issue on 2.2. I have done 2 factory resets. Nothing. N1 call center said slowly reinstall all apps to see if an app may be doing it. No luck.
Is anyone having issues with the screen still being responsive while on a call? My screen will go black but you cant still hit keys when you have up against your face.
I'm betting that you do not have a custom recovery and nandroid backup, or you wouldn't be asking.
I highly doubt that the phone will let you push the old firmware on top of the new one if you don't have a hacked recovery and a test-signed zip. But I don't know - you could try it...
Here is what I would do:
1. Install a custom recovery (like Amon-Ra 1.7.0.1), either by unlocking the bootloader, or by following the directions in the dev forum for doing this without unlocking if you have the fear. If you already a custom recovery, don't worry about this step.
2. Now boot into recovery and make a nand backup!
3. Now go ahead and try this one of two ways - either delete one application at a time until you figure out which one is killing you, OR do a factory reset and then re-add one application or a small number at a time until you figure out what is crashing you.
If it were me, with my 100 applications, I'd probably add 5 or 10 at a time. Once you get crashes after one group, try removing those applications one at a time until the crashes stop. The last removed app when the crashes stop should be the answer.
Of course, since you'll have to have adb running to get a nandroid, you could also just take a logcat of the running, crashing phone and see what app is killing it there.
I did a factory reset today and will report back letting everyone know if that has fixed the issue. Everyone else that is experiencing the freezing issue, did you have Beautiful Widgets installed?
I have that installed, is that whats cousing it?
Beautiful Widgets was killing my N1, too. Freezes, sluggishness, etc. I uninstalled and wiped my cache via stock recovery. No problems since.
I'm on stock FRF91 BTW.

It appears that's the root of my issue. I would uninstall the application and clear the cache and see if that helps. Report back with your findings.

Hey XDA'ers,
First off, in case anyone mentions that I have to use the search function of XDA: I did an I couldn't find any thread with this exact question, so I presume it's okay. Now, ever since I've installed the sound fixing update Over The Air, my phone crashes quite often. This happens most often when I play music through my amplifier with a standard 3.5mm cable. There seems to be about half an hour in between but it varies. The music would suddenly stop and my phone won't turn on anymore, with a completely black screen. If I then wait a little longer, the phone restarts and it does not even require me to enter my SIM's PIN code which is odd on its own, as if it doesn't fully crash but reboot on its own or something. I thought it only happened while listening to audio, but it just happened again when I only tried to open the Album app, I got the message that the app crashed and while that message was popping up (it was still a bit transparent) the phone froze and rebooted.
Now, I'm used to regular apps suddenly crashing with my Xperia Z1 which is weird to begin with, but opening these apps again just gets rid of the problem. It was only a minor annoyance so far, but it did make the Z1 look like the firmware wasn't stable at all (multiple apps keep crashing, even the front camera today as well...). But now that the phone even reboots at least every day, the minor annoyance is becoming a major annoyance. I really don't want to reinstall the firmware because it takes too much time to reinstall all the apps and data I have on the device.
So I'm just wondering now, am I the only one with this issue? I don't suppose there's an easy way to fix it without factory resetting or reflashing firmware. And by the way, I'm completely on stock with my device. I haven't rooted, unlocked the bootloader or anything. If you've experienced this as well, please let me know. Maybe we can dive into it. Have you for example reset factory settings with the issue reoccurring? Have you flashed the firmware yourself and did the issue perhaps stop? I'd love to know.

Try repair the Z1 via PC companion, you will not lose any data to do that and maybe will fix the problem, otherwise a Factory Reset will be recommended.

Wait, this PC Companion repair does not erase any kind of data on my phone? Are you sure?
I thought it would just reflash my firmware and basically do a factory reset. Which is not what I'm looking for.
Have you not experienced any app crashes or rather sudden phone reboots?
I have the same. Sudden reboots. It was the same way when I was rooted on the.. 757 firmware.
I did the repair with Sony update. Still the reboots but even more random. When rooted it usually rebooted when using camera.
Also the touchscreen doesn't react like normal sometimes. Not that often it happens but it happens.
Reboots about once every day and at completely random occasions.
I'm guessing it's the firmware, just have to wait until a stable firmware comes. Until then we are stuck beeing testpilots for Sony developers.

I only had some weird problems with the camera but only at first after that no problem

why you are afraid to start from 0 ... I can not understand ... too much of laziness??? your stories of wanting to keep your data, tends to cause bugs that are not on a clean system...
You can save the very important files on your computer... And restore the principal after...
You should atleast try a repair but for me everything actually got worse after the repair.
Someone at Sony replied to me with "have you tried your phone without the sim card". Are there known issues with simcards making our phones crashing I wonder?

So i've been experiencing this issue for months now. I've had the issue since i've gotten the phone but its the past few months that its really gotten bad. So before anyone jumps the gun, i've done quite a bit of research on this and cannot find anything worthwhile, more on that soon.
So as usual, i'll pickup my phone and press the power button or the home button to turn on the screen, but at completely random times the screen will not come on at all. Sometimes the capacitive buttons will light up (maybe 15-20% of the time), but not always.
In my searches I found the following solutions to this problem:
Get a new sim card
Dont use an SD card
Get a new battery
Check the leads on the battery and phone for cleanliness
Factory reset
Remove 1 app at a time and test until it stops happening
Dont freeze any apps
Restore stock firmware
Dont use SetCPU
Turn off animations
Get rid of the lock screen
Remove custom message from lock screen
Clear cache through Recovery
Dont restore data with Titanium Backup when restoring apps
Turn off WiFi and/or Bluetooth and/or GPS
Dont use GreenPower or Greenify
Avoid stock launcher
I have tried all of the above except for removing 1 app at a time (and those that dont apply). I'm deep into that one and only have a few apps left to try. This is something that happens at least once a day, but typically 3-5 times in a day. I used to think i could make it happen by pressing the power button to turn on the screen and immediately hit it again to turn it off. It would sometimes work but that doesnt trigger it anymore.
My phone used to be rooted, but being on AT&T there was no "normal" way to flash a good recovery like CWM or TWRP and install roms, you have to use some other thing which i dont use. So i've always had stock recovery, im fully updated to the newest stock rom that is out, update came OTA which was after i removed root and used odin to flash an older stock rom back. My wife's Note 3 also has the same issue and it has never been rooted, we have gone through all of the above and still it continues to happen.
Also on a side note, my phone was swapped out because of an issue it had 3 months after i purchased the phone. I was able to get a brand new one, not refurbished. The issue had occured once or twice before the swap and an incredibly frustrating amount of times since then.
Reading through most of the other threads, everyone seems to have to remove their battery and re-insert it to get back into their phone. The ones that dont have to do that have found that removing their SD Card, getting a new one, sending the phone in, or one of the other options have worked. However for me, nothing has worked.
Does anyone have any other ideas? Is this common on the Note 3 (I've had it since release)? 70% of the time i can hold the power button for a few seconds to try and bring up the power menu and it works, but not always.. I usually just have to wait up to a minute or two (never actually counted, i use my phone for that stuff...which.. isnt..working...)
I've had wake lock lag on a few android phones. Even iPhones.
I would highly recommend rooting it on att and flash a mod that reduces it on the note 3. I talked about it here.

Unfortunately I cannot root my phone. I have to have my company email on my phone, and for Android devices they use Air Watch. I tried for weeks to get it working while rooted, and even used Root Cloak or something like that (with Wanam Xposed) to hide root from specific apps. Air Watch was specifically tested to work with that app but it still for some reason didn't work (new version of Air Watch perhaps with no update to Root Cloak? Just my guess). I had to remove root, factory reset and re-flash stock from Odin (that was a dual purpose flash) to remove all traces of Root so I could use Air Watch for my company email/calendar/contacts/etc again, even after unrooting and using all the cleanup tools, triangle away, and everything, it still detected my phone as rooted...
However, I don't think that's really a viable solution to the problem, that's more of a band aid. Looking at that thread and looking around, it seems to work well but I still haven't found anyone with my same issue where they used it and it worked. I would like to narrow this down to what the issue is exactly, the root cause. I think its a problem with KitKat, or at least all of 4.4.x (not sure about 4.4.4 yet).
Hello, today my Moto G 2 developed an issue, I was sitting on the couch using it, locked it, put it next to me, used my laptop for a few minutes, then when I picked it up to check it, the screen would not turn on. The battery was on about 48% when I put it down. I am running stock Android 5.0.2 and have not ever attempted to root or unlock this particular phone. It has been running 5.0.2 since the day it allowed me to install it via the update section in the settings, and I have not taken part in any soak tests.
I have not posted enough to enable me to post the thread with the video in it, so here's the link: watch/2nlpzj0Wqrc (just paste this in after typing in youtube)
I'm apologize in advance if this issue has been asked about before and fixed, however, all I could find is the issue with it not turning on at all, where it is simply the fact that the battery died and the phone was not plugged in it time.
Yes, I've tried safe mode, same problem arises.
Uh.... Bump...
you have a sw problem, what exactly??? don't know...
do a factory reset, go to config> backup & reset> factory....
remember factory reset erase everything so make a backup of app, files, or wherever you wanna to keep.

Hi there,
I'm yesterday out of the blue my phone turned itself off since apparently it ran out of battery (about 40% in less than 2 hours of stand by).
Since than I was unable to use the phone at all. It boots up but most of the apps just get stuck in their loading screen.
I'm running 4.4.4 locked bl w/ root. I've tried to wipe dalvic and cache but with no success. I have feeling this has something to do with a recent google service update
since in battery usage it mentions one as a top consumer(also explains the major battery drain). Is anyone else experiencing/ed this?
Any suggestions on how could I restore my device to functioning condition?
Edit:
Ok I am now pretty certain its the google play services...however I still have no idea how to resolve this.
Hi!
Really strange... My Google Play Services were also updated but I don't have any issues with it.
Can you access settings and make a hard reset? At least this should make your phone usable.
If the settings also get stuck, try repairing the software using Sony PC Companion.
