[Q] Xperia Z1 Water Under Screen Protector - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
I apologise if this is in the wrong section, this is my first post.
I just applied a Ultimate Shield Tempered Glass Screen Protector.
I used a recommendation I saw on this forum to run a hot shower to avoid dust going under the protector.
What's happened now is that it's visible when the screens off, that moisture is visible under the protector, from the humidity of the bathroom.
Will this go away with time? Can this affect the screen? I don't really want to remove the protectors, as it's brand new with no air bubbles.
Cheers,
Alex

It should go away after some time I hope. I had no problems when applying my nilkin 9H tempered glass screenprotectors and it is fully waterproof! Unless you didn't apply it correctly and the screenprotector accidentally lifted up you might have to move it! With most of these screenprotectors, you can remove them and re-apply them without the glue being destroyed

Thank you I probably won't remove it as there is no air bubbles etc. Just a bit of an OCD thing haha ?
I did use a hairdryer on it for a bit but it didn't go away. It kinda looks like oil as well.
Thanks,
Alex

Very Good Screen Protector

Hey all,
A little headsup I found an awesome screen protector. Thought I'd post it as theirs been an influx of "MASSIVE SCREEN SCRATCH" Threads.
This screen protector is military grade, does NOT scratch.
The only downside (could be an upside for some) is that it requires soapy water for install.
I have this screen protector and can not tell you how happy I am !!!
Check it out here
Once applied, all bubbles disappear within about 24 hours. Once its fully dried and bubbles are gone, its virtually invisible !!
It feels lovely to touch, you can feel it but its not a nasty feel like some of the other protectors. Almost the same sort of feel as an Xtreme Guard, but less rubbery !
If you want any more info feel free to ask.

Hi!
I'm planning to buy a screen protector and I might choose this one, can you tell me about how effective it is against fingerprints and smudges?
Well, I have a XtremeGuard screen protector which is also a soapy install screen protector and I must say it's nice. There are some major downsides like smudges and an orange-peel effect which happens if you don't install it correctly (also happens when you do install it correctly, but minor). The only way I can remove smudges off this thing is with water and a micro-fiber cloth which isn't something I carry around with me everywhere. That being said, dry screen protectors are the way too go. They can be cleaned easily (meaning smudges can be removed with your sleeve) and look better when the protector is installed on your device. I've gone through the Zagg Invisible Shield (the one OP posted), XtremeGuard's screen protector, and a normal screen protector and the dry one is the best in my opinion.

Hey, it hardly shows any finger prints at all. I've cleaned it once since install (month or two ago) and that was just a wipe with my jumper sleeve. Much better than the others such as the XtremeGuard mentioned below.

Hi, I also have an extreme guard on my HOX and I agree with your comment. However, and this will sound weird, try this:
Rub the finger prints in, with your finger. Untill they are really smudgy and horrible, then get your jumper sleeve and just wipe the smudge fairly hard. I'm telling you this works like a charm and gets rid of all finger prints !!

[Q] Nillkin screen protector

Hi guys, I'm about to put the screen protector on my phone but I do not know what's that for (number 4 - the RED THING ;p):

I have a manual but it's in Chinese ;/

I think that it's a piece of adhesive tape. When you are applying a screen protector and notice that there is a dust particle stuck underneath, gently remove that part of screen protector already applied and use the adhesive tape to take the dust particle off the screen.
I am not 100% sure but it could be that.
From that blurry picture I really can't tell you what it is, you got any other photos of it?

a piece of advice, try to put on the screen protector while in a steamy room, like a shower, otherwise there are many dust particles in the air, even if you clean the screen throughly before applying the protector some dust particles tends to apear from nowhere!!
if in a steamy room there is less partiles in the air and you have a better chance of putting it on without dust underneath.

From now one you're my guru. When I'll buy another Nillkin screen protector I'll apply it in the bathroom.
And I'm not being sarcastic.. I've destroyed both front and back protector with all the dust particles ;/ I suck ;p
I was wearing a head lamp when applying it ( to see each and every dust particle) and as you said they were just appearing from nowhere damn you dust..

Screen protector messed up, remove it?

Hey guys,
My Xperia Z1 is 2 weeks old and I carried it in a flip case but still the included screenprotector has tons of scratches on it do you guys reccomend that I remove it?
EDIT: does the back glass have a screen protector too? And if i remove that will I remove the logos?
Thanks,
Noahvt
Yes , the back side has screen protector but if you remowe it you will not lose the sony xperia and nfc logo . If you remove the protectors sugest to replace them with tempered glass protectors because the back/front of the phone are more fragile without protectors .

Just removed the front protector (the back is not scratched yet so I will not remove it yet) And I got a bunch of ghost touches at first, after wiping the screen the ghost touches were reduced to a few but it's quite annoying, I assume this is just some glue residue left from the screenprotector? If so what would be the best approach to get rid of that residue?
Thanks,

Clean the screen with something . The ghost touches are from residue and buy a tempered glass for the screen because if you let it like this and scratches are going to appear on it then you wont be able to remove them.

Agree on the tempered glass instead. Feels much nicer.

Tempered glass + LOCA?

Getting tired of these crappy screen protectors. The glass ones only have some OCA tape on the corners which is problematic when water touches it. It also leaves air between glass and screen meaning touch sensitivity is impaired. I have one of these screen protectors and I have removed the tape. Is there a problem using LOCA to bond the screen protector to the screen? This is supposed to be a semi permanent installation. Right now the only problem I see is the adhesive pooling around the home button.
Isn't LOCA permanent though?
I would like to know what silicone glue the stock screen uses.

Not a good idea. I just use plastic. Yes it feels like crap but doesn't suffer from touch issues.

There is no glue between the LCD and Glass on the S7 or S7e.

Yeah LOCA glue is permanent but can be removed with fairly easily with solvents.
@Illogi.xbone You have any suggestions on good plastic screen protectors? I just want a buffer in case I drop the device glass first. With plastic, the screen would still shatter. Plastic screen protectors are also less of a fingerprint magnet. I always carry sharp objects and the plastic protectors keep getting cut up.

I tend to keep my phone in a separate pocket to anything else. I don't see loca working well but you can always give it a go. Plastic will always get cut and yes, the screen can/will shatter (same with tempered glass) but I prefer the coverage that they provide and resistance to fingerprint smudges. I have used Skinomi in the past, don't like their matte ones though.
Geez, if it has come to this point just use the screen as it was intended.

Which would probably damage your screen.
Still suspicious about the LOCA

Question Frequent accumulation of dust on screen

I'm seeing frequent dust accumulation on the screen where my fingers interact with the screen (my fingers are washed clean BTW) and also on the edges of the case that came with the phone. Thinking about a screen guard if it solves the issue. Any help / suggestions would be appreciated.
Same here. In my opinion it's cause of the screen protector attached by Xiaomi.
Yes it happens to me as well, lot of dust on the screen
I believe it's because of the stock film protector. I had the same issues but for some reason my protector started peeling off so i got rid of it. Now it's nice and clean.
Wipe it off with a dry microfiber cloth.
Increase room humidity.

Had an old S4 and just to see how long the scratch free display could last in a case without a screen protector, I removed the protector.
It lasted about 6 months and in spite of being careful it had 3 scratches.
Sand will easily scratch the glass.
Think about it before you remove the factory protector about having an after market one to put on that day. My 10+ display would have been marred and perhaps even broken by now without one. Not just sand but direct contact with metal and gravel in falls when it face planted.
Easier and cheaper to replace a screen protector than the display... or look at scratches.
