White band on screen plus glitches - Asus Transformer TF701

Hi, so there's a white band that suddenly appeared on the screen a couple of weeks ago about 2 inches thick and is, let's say, translucent ie a picture can still be seen beneath. It can also be seen faintly when the tablet is rebooting. Can it be a cabling issue in the screen or a problem with the screen itself or hopefully a software issue (not likely)? Thanks
There's also a glitch that appear on landscape and disappears when switching to portrait mode and vice versa on apps. Which does not appear when a screenshot is taken.
I have attached a couple of pics.. I'm guessing that it's probably a hardware issue but if there's an alternative to changing the screen, I would be glad lol.

Looks like a GPU fault to me. It may be the cabling I suppose but more likely the hardware underneath unfortunately.

Line on Screen sometimes

I have a problem with my Tilts screen, on some programs I can see a line running across the screen right where the bottom bar for the softkeys is located. When I am using the camera it appears to be green, and when i open up the tab for the options it is white, its not that visible to most people but I can clearly see it, and it and it is extremely annoying I will take some pictures of it later, just wanted to know if anyone has the same problem
looks a hardware fault to me...is it happening on landscape and portrait mode?
I have problem with horizontal line on the screen only in camera (3Mpix) mode. This line apper on the taken foto. I thin it must be camera ... I hope this will be fixed soon...
I send mine back for repair, because of the horizontal and vertical lines in camera mode.

it happens on both, the problem kinda reminds me of those old crt monitors where if you had the same thing on the screen too long it would burn in. the line is on the left side of the screen and looks exactly like the shiny part of the left softkey is.

Was it repaird or did you get a new one ? I now that it's diffrent in every country but how long were you left without phone ?
I'm still in the waiting, the TNT guy just picked it up. They promised me it will take 10 days max. This includes the time for sending it back to me.
So hopefully i'll get it back before 15 dec. I think they will replace my cameralens, since there is a white dead pixel on it. But who knows...
Im having the same problem.
I just received my MDA Vario III yesterday.
I installed the hardSPL and flashed with dutty's latest rom.
I also took a contacts pic of my dad, hehe.
But today, I started the camera and noticed a red line running across the cam.
So I took the picture, and checked the pic. It seemed the red line was taken with the picture. This does mean there's some hardware problem. Also, I found another topic on the internet with more people complaining about it:
Click!
I just called T-Mobile and they wouldnt help me cause the contract's on my dad's name. (A few years back when I wasn't 18 yet)
Anybody else who has experienced this problem?
i just took a pic of my monitor in low light conditions - i have a totally black screen with only the taskbar visible (light gray) i found that taking a picture in landscape mode, the night mode or some **** is causing all pixels along that line to darken (??) see this link for an example (3mp @ fine)
note: this happens in landscape mode probably because the orientation of the line of pixels is in line with the pixels of the camera (cant seem to reproduce it when the device is upright [ie the taskbar spans the 240, not the 320]) - this could either be the utterly _crap_ nightmode filter software or could be due to the ccd itself - i dont really know enough about camera technology to determine which is the cause (you think maybe the crap nightmode filter determines the gamma of horizontal lines based only on the pixels in that line? that would explain this effect and if so thats just plain ****)
My Kaiser has new camera. It took only one day to repair it. I've heard that camera in Kaiser is made by Samsung ... (it was mentioned in service report)
Now it's all ok. I wonder how long ...

Screen issue-"Burnt in" image on gray backround

Hello people,
I rarely see a burnt in (like old crt screens) image on the bottom of the screen.
For example when I change the volume, the softkey labels of the today screen are still visible, along with a white line. Most times it is normal so I don't worry very much but I'm wondering if someone else has the same issue.
I've tried many versions of hardspl (because they seem to be connected with some screen issues) but the problem still exists.
Hi i have the exact same issue, i put a post up a month ago not had any response on it. I have a MDA compact IV, not updated any ROM or HARDSPL yet. I was tempted to update to see if the problem could be rectified.
Have you update to a cooked rom? I might send mine back to have it fixed if its a screen issue.
Mine only holds the "burnt in image" along the right of the screen from top right corner to bottom right corner around 3cm in.
Also i have noticed the "Burnt in image" seems to get stronger when the device heats up. If i use GPS or 3G, this seems to affect the screen.
My background is black which makes it really noticable, i think if i stick with the orginal t-mobile white background it's probably not that noticable.
mmm
Perhaps the units you bought where like demo units. Those units that are displayed all day long turned for people to look at them. I have read in another forum that perhaps that distortion is caused by extreme temperatures, cold or heat.
well i'm still trying to figure out what is causing it, as I notice it only once in maybe a week. Maybe temperature is the most probable cause. For me I notice the defect only in gray background (e.g. when changing volume or launching opera).
My unit was from the first batch from expansys (origin htc asia)
It's possible your handsets have screens which are somehow susceptible to heat damage from inside the phone. This would be no fault of your own, but a manufacturing defect.
I'd suggest returning the phone to the retailer, HTC or the operator depending on your situation.
However, if you're using the phone in extreme conditions, ie low temperatures, you may very well find the LCD slow to refresh or have some level of image retention.
Let us know the outcome
i also have a ripple effect when pressing, but its more apparent with black. its also a first gen model, so i think ima make a phone call to htc. maybe a can get a new device.
for the burn in, try this:
1. Go to power settings, deselect automatic backlight management.
2. Pull up backlight level to maximum.
3. Reselect automatic.
You should be ok!
If not, faulty device!

Ok I will try this although I can't see how the backlight can affect the screen. In order to repair it with warranty I would have to send it to expansys uk (because it is not a European device) and I bet it would take long
Have you tried removing the battery for a while - some lcd screens can get the memory effect, and cutting power for long enough normally cures it.
My phone actually holds the previous menu under the current menu.
Example i'm on the home screen, goto messages and send a text using the qwerty keyboard. Back to the home screen, i can see a very faint image of the qwerty keyboard under the Programs hotkey.
When the PIN lock comes on the bottom right is "MENU", i can see a faint "programs" letters icon underneath it.
I will try and leave the battery out for a few hours, if not a call to t-mobile!
ok, i have the same "problem". even after a soft-reset the words CommManager
and Programs are still slightly visible in the boot screen.
but: as mentioned above, turning the device off for a couple of minutes cures
this, and the screen is dark as hell again!
really seems to be some kind of memory effect!
regards,
markus
Left the battery out for a few hours, made no difference. I guess is not a software problem.
will be giving t-mobile a call tomorrow!
:-(
I guess every htc device must have a flaw...
when it does it again I will try to take a photo of it and post it here
Hi same problem here.... See my post below..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417629
I thought it was due to Spb Shell but no, now i'm happy i'm not alone..
But what solution for this??
I'm not worried about the burn in looks.. My worry is whether this behavior of the screen will progressively damge the screen???
I have been using the Diamond at full backlight.. Last few days i've put it down to minimum, but the problem persists!!!
ok, I think it happens when it overheats.
So that is why it is caused when charging.
wtf?
No its not due to overheating, coz LCD screen are supposed to tolerate temperatures upto 80degree C... Dont know if its related to electro magnetic radiation, may be looks like it's more after i use the network...
Hi another mate has this problem Andrew...

Hi,
i sent my phone back to T-Mobile hoping they will fix this issue with the screen. Just received the phone and it looks like they have done nothing On the job sheet all it says is "Software updated"? The problem is still there!
I dont think there is a fix as such, it looks like this is the cause
http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/image-sticking.html
I'll try if i can get a completely white background and leave the screen on for a while at the brighest setting, if this will erase the screen issue?
the problem appears more often now on my device....
It does not have to do with heat afterall.
Why would the image "stick" when the phone is off? I mean that many times I see the symptoms right after I switch the phone on.
Do we have any screen experts in the forum?

After calling up T-Mobile and made a complaint saying nothing had been done by the repair centre, they gave up and agreed to give me a handset replacement. Received the handset today, looks like a refurbed one? Anyway my problem is now fixed. Left the phone on a while and it got pretty hot, no ghosting on the screen
The restore was a pain, Wifi didn;t work, the HSDPA didn;t work. But after a few hours messing around it's all up and running so far.

screen defect?

I just got a tilt about a week ago and ive noticed that in the middle of the screen there seems to be a purple greenish tint when put against incandescent light. The size of said glint varies in size but i'm unable to see what changes the size. Not sure if its heat or pressure or something. The touch screen works perfectly its just really annoying to always see such an annoying glint.
An interesting discovery is that when i press all four corners of the screen it disappears and when i press in the middle of the little square it seems to spread out. I feel like theres some kind of material or something in the touch screen that is causing this due to pressure. I keep it in a hard case in my pocket so the screen isnt pressed on inadvertently.
I've searched the forum for any answers but i havent seen anything about it. Any response or help would be greatly appreciated. I'll try to get a picture of it up asap but i left my camera at a friends house and dont know when im getting it back...thanks in advanced

Do you see the same "annoying glint" under neon light (not day / sunlight)?
Lots of NOKIA and SONY ERICSSON phones for example get this screen recolorization under direct sunlight - this has nothing to do with the screen being defective but with the plastic above the screen which breaks the light and shows you this colored spots. If you can't see the same spot under direct neon light then this might be the cause.
It is normal that you get color changes while pressing the screen in. First of, you press / bent the protecting plastic and the liquid within the screen which causes the incoming light to break in a different angle, therefore the color changes. (BTW: you shouldn't do that too often, it can cause permanent stains on your screen!).
There sure is the possibility that your screen gets pressure from underneath due bad assembling! If you're still under warranty, try to get a replacement.
yeah you cant see it in day light. but i feel as though there is constant pressure on the screen between the plastic and liquid since the spot is always there and doesnt really go away (unless of course in daylight).
well im thinking im going to go back for a replacement. thanks for the quick answer!

Screen "Spasms" on Scrolling

So I have noticed that when I scroll on my HD7 there are black lines across the top of every column - in other words it looks like the screen is lagging slightly behind the scrolling.
It is most obvious when you see it blue on black as far as I can tell.
It seems to vanish with a white background. It is something I have seen on every HD7 I have seen in stores and my own HD7.
It is almost like the effect of when you wave your finger/hand in front of your face and you see a trail.... that is what it looks like.
Is that a screen issue or a human eye can't keep up issue?
I am sorry if you now notice this issue on your new phone
in another thread about this someone said it was due to the screen not refreshing quickly enough due to the type of lcd used, I do know it happens on mine as well though, try setting it to the purple theme, it gets really bad, and if you tilt the phone the theme turns pink which amused me.

Screen brightness uneven -- anyone else?

Folks,
Got a question for you -- as per the title. To give you a little background, I bought an S2 8.0, loved it, and then decided that I really ought to replace my existing "data plan" tablet from the S 8.4 to the S2 9.7. So, good-bye to the S2 8.0, and I've got a new S2 9.7 LTE.
All is well, EXCEPT for some screen oddness. I'll have to post some pictures, but I think I can describe it well enough. To begin with, I don't really like "busy" wallpaper -- I just use a solid-color, medium-to-dark blue wallpaper as my background. What I really notice, both in portrait and landscape orientation, is a darker band at the top of the screen -- again, it happens in both portrait and landscape orientation. It seems to be a "viewing angle" thing, as the dark "top" in landscape orientation doesn't turn into a dark "side" in portrait orientation. Instead, when I move to portrait orientation, then the top of the screen has this dark band, and the sides are just fine.
But I don't notice quite the same thing happening when I get into some apps -- for instance, the yellow/orange top band in the "Memo" application doesn't turn noticeably darker. But the green top band in the "Evernote" application shows it IN SPADES, though it's a really thin band at the very edge of the screen. And, again, it's always at the top, no matter which orientation I'm in, that I see the dark band.
Anyway, that's the most obvious stuff. However, when you back up and take the whole screen in view, what I'm really seeing is A LOT OF COLOR CHANGE as I angle the tablet towards me (more vertical) and away from me (more horizontal). Again, just go into the Memo application, and lay your tablet flat on a table, then grab it and tilt it up towards you -- do you get a big change in color, or does it stay the same? I guess I would say that the "white" color "turns bluish" as I raise the tablet towards me (making it more vertical), and it goes more to a normal white when I lay it flat.
I can understand changes in screen quality due to viewing angles, but that's not something that I associate with OLED screens. I sure didn't see anything like this at all with the S2 8.0 that I had. And I've started looking at S2 9.7 tablets in stores, and I really haven't seen anything like it in the stores. Thus, I'm definitely thinking about returning the thing -- unless it's really a case of "they all do it."
So, if you guys could check out your tablets and let me know if you see anything like this, I would appreciate it. It's not worth taking the thing back and asking for an exchange if what I'm seeing is common, but I'm definitely a bit disappointed in the screen quality that I've got with this tablet.
Thanks in advance for checking this out for me, and for any thoughts you'd like to send my way!

I have yet to see an S2 that can display a uniform white screen. I can always see a light pink/purple tint on a white background. If all you're doing is consuming media you will never notice, but if you're reading anything with a white background it gets too distracting. I don't see any issues with uniform brightness though, it looks perfect from that standpoint.

Understood -- thanks. I installed a couple of screen testing apps, and they show no issues. For instance, I pulled up a full-screen blue that was very similar to the blue I'm using for my background, and it was nicely solid blue. Then I pulled up a full-screen green that was similar to the top of Evernote, and it was nicely solid blue. Then I pulled up a full-screen white, and you could see what you and I have both mentioned -- it does change colors a bit as you move the screen around.
So, it's just very strange what my S2 is doing -- it's like it must have something to do with other on-screen elements. I'll definitely take it back and exchange it for another one, but I'm just trying to get a grip on whether this is happening on any other S2 tablets. And it definitely appears that it isn't.
Thanks for your reply!

I've been checking my T815 a little while ago after noticing similar behaviour. The way I see it, the tab S2 screen is very sensitive to the viewing angle. Not so much in blue and red, but very much so in green. In fact, to get a proper green, I have to look dead on. I even notice a change in the green colour: dead on it's yellowish green, while even at a slight angle it is an uglier green. The first is clearly what the device is calibrated for, because that's when things like skin tones look perfect.
I used the *#0*# menu to test.
I compared this to my other devices. On the note4 I didn't notice this. But that may be because of the smaller screen. On my previous tab, tab77, the effect was also completely absent. But that one has a completely different oled layout.
I've already eliminated display modes and auto brightness as influences. I still have to look into the effects of ambient light, since the displays of my devices do reflect differently when turned off. In fact, under some angles the tab S2 reflects a bright white lamp as pure green. While the tab77 always reflects the same lamp as white.
I know that the tab S2 has an rgb matrix that has two Gs for every R and B. That's probably related to the effect I'm seeing.
