Can't Confirm Selections - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Rooted running Euphoria, for every settings option that's asks if I'm sure ( asked to press "OK" or "cancel" ) after I turn it on, I'm unable to chose OK. I keep pressing it but the only option that works is "cancel". All of the option in accessibility or whenever something needs SU permission. Also none of SU logs are showing up, almost like SU isn't running at all?
Any ideas?

Are you running an app that does things to your screen? Like one that controls brightness, pixels, colors, resolution, or whatever else.

It's protection built into both android and the SuperSU application. If an application puts an overlay over the interface, Android and the superSU app will prevent buttons like that being pressed, so an app cannot use an overlay to automate hijacking. Apps like Lux or other things that change the screen colour, brightness etc will create a layer in such a way. As for SuperSU, you can turn this protection off in settings, but for accessibility settings etc, you'll need to temporarily turn off those apps creating the overlay.

Thanks, I bevel thought LUX would do that

[Q] exiting "app info" screen

I have noticed that when using certain apps (ES File Explorer and Avast! being two examples) that if I enter an "app info" screen from these apps it opens in full screen with no apparent method to exit the screen short of returning to home. Am I missing some gesture? Entering "app info" from default "settings" allows me to back out - but no such option exists in these cases. What is more if I do go to home then restart the guilty app using a shortcut it puts me back to my last location for that app, which of course is stuck in the "app info" screen.
edit: Forgot I'm using Nova launcher
Me to, why does that matter?

My particular problem was that I would enter the info screen through a misclick, attempt to return to the previous screen, use home to access desktop then end up back inside the same (dead end) info page when I attempted to reopen explorer through the desktop. As a novice to tablet interfaces I found this circular dance at best, unintuitive.

There is a solution. But you have to install an app. It is GMD Gesture Control Lite. It is free but sometimes nags you to buy the full version. I found out about it because another user wanted to hide the status/navigation bars. The app adds the ability to add finger swipe gestures for specific actions. One swipe that comes with the free version is back. So with that installed, just give the pre-defined swipe action and it goes back. And if you buy the full version it adds the swipe to hide or show the status/nav bar. So, if you give it that swipe, the back bar appears. I found I had trouble with the multi-touch tablet swipes, so I configured it for phone so it only took single touch swipes.
I could see where that app would be handy in a lot of situations. I am going to keep it installed. May even recommend it in my tips thread.

I tried that out but couldn't get consistent behaviour from it. More often than not a gesture wouldn't register.
Ok misunderstood your problem. Yes I've seen that too. Have to kill the app in manage apps

not the only one. Check and see if you can disable it by going in to settings -> apps -> All -> Power. I can't get rid of it sadly. :/
The only way to permanently remove it now is by rooting.
To temporarily remove it, you can ford close the "Power" app from the App info screen.
What i done was hold it down then stop app it's now gone but can use it in settings
Settings, apps, all, power, turn off notifications, yes

This doesnt work on non rooted devices. The "show notifications" option is greyed out and cannot be unchecked. At least thats how it is on my device running 1.28.401.7.

If you are rooted, you need to either flash a ROM that has that option enabled, or install a mod (like this) to enable it.

For non-rooted (stock) phones, you can't remove it. You can bypass it by "Force closing" the Power app. But it will come back after a reboot or if your battery goes down to 14% & Power Saver turns on.
As for disabling it, I didn't try, but would expect that you will loose the "Power Saver" function & the options under Settings>Power. ("Power" will be completely gone).
the best way to disable the notification while keeping the power saving app running is to disable the notification receiver activity in the power app.
must have root access
1. install and open an app 'system tuner'
2. click system and wait until all of the apps are there
3. scroll down to 'Power'
4. tap power and then tap details
5. scroll down to "receivers"
6. untick "powersaver.PowerSaverNotificationReceiver"
7. reboot

High Brightness Mode switcher[ROOT]

Hi,
I have created a small Tasker application for switch on/off High Brightness Mode for Nexus 6.
You can install it as standalone application without Tasker. But it needs Root privileges.
It should work with all kernels as this feature is comes with STOCK kernel.
Thanks,

sweet! Thanks for this, ive always wanted to use tasker to program one of my volume buttons(double press) to enable max brightness before I turn the screen on. I always get aggravated when I go outside and have to find the brightness slider with lowbrightness. I only use about 20% brightness inside. Never did accomplish this, I believe it will be much easier now with your program! Thanks!:good:
Working on last chroma!
Genius thank you!

Awesome app
what's this high brightness mode?
Turns HBM on, but doesn't turn it back off when tap it again. Nexus 6 Pure Nexus current and Moto G Second Gen (stock Debloated) both exhibit this behaviour.
When screen turns off and back on, HBM is off again so I still find value in this app the way it is, thanks.
Very nice. Works great.

It looks like you don't have permissions on hbm sysfs interface.
Can you please share output of

I am using "chmod" command to gain write access to the hbm file. So can you please install busybox then try again?
Thanks.

Did you try Quick Click application from play store? I didn't tried but looks useful for you case.
I love this app, use it as a shortcut on my lockscreen for outdoors reading. Could you make another that lowers the brightness, for night time? I know I could just use the slider but I would rather have a matching shortcut on my lockscreen. Thanks!
This works great! I set a shortcut on the lockscreen and also set a double tap gesture on Nova Launcher to turn it on or off.
Thank you Sir for sharing this lovely app.
Excellent and very useful app.
Worked fine with MM even on Nexus 6P.
With Nougat you can activate fine but needs to switch off screen to deactivate and even then, notification stays on, on status bar.
Any upgrades please?
thank you

If its an app enabling the feature, i would assume it also takes a hit on battery life....
how are u guys noticing drain?

I don't notice any significant drain on battery. You're right in that it is similar to tapping the fingerprint sensor, however if I have it laying flat on a table and just want to quickly check time or notifications, this is a convenient way to do it

Works good for me. Especially when in the car when its in a car mount

Thanks, works great for me as well in those custom ROMs that don't have it enabled.
The app does indeed wake the screen up on my Nexus 6P but it wouldn't let me log in without entering the device password. Wouldn't let me go in with the fingerprint.
I'm on 6P running N with systemless root. Installed, opened app, enabled, and it immediately worked without a reboot or anything. Great work.
@blakey22 Two questions...
1) How come the screen doesn't turn on when you double tap the bottom or top portion of the screen?
2) Is the screen actually on when this app is enabled?

If you are using Xposed and Gravitybox, it has an option to double tap the Statusbar to sleep.
Double tap to wake after reboot is not working anymore on Oreo 8.0.0
Would be awesome if this could be fixed.

Yes, you either set the "Gestures" up during the initial setup in the Aroma installer (first time), or you can use flar2's kernel manager which is great. If you just blew through the initial setup and left the kernel defaults, I'm sure you can delete the Aroma settings file and then re-flash the kernel to get the options again. Better yet, try out EXKM.

Remove VPN Key in Notification Area

I'm testing out Ad Guard at the moment, which seems to be working well.
However, because I chose to use a VPN (it was recommended) then I now have a key sign in the notification area.
I'm sure it asked me if I wanted to turn it off at the time but I said no thinking I could turn it off later. Now I can't find any setting at all!
Is there a way I can turn it off without having to give system ui Turner app permissions through ADB?
