****************EDIT*******************
DISREGARD, I fixed it kind of....
**************************************
So... I believe my samsung cappy is "super" soft bricked. like to the point where there is nothing actually on the phone.
Holding power button + vol up and down for like.. 40 seconds results in
RST_STAT = 0x1
PMIC_IRQ1 = 0x2c
PMIC_IRQ2 = 0x0
PMIC_IRQ3 = 0x0
PMIC_IRQ4 = 0x0
PMIC_STATUS1 = 0xc0
PMIC_STATUS2 = 0x2c

My computer sees the phone in this state as "SAMSUNG USB Composite Device" and "SAMSUNG Mobile Modem #3"
Odin sees the phone but doesn't go past "File Analysis" stage.
What do?
First, this is a question, please post in the Q/A section.
Second, there are tons of threads with various combinations / orders of button presses. I can tell you based on you description that you are using the wrong one for Odin. Please use the search function in the forum to find the thread(s) you are looking for.
Also I have to nitpick here. The term bricked means it's literally a brick. Unable to fix, it might as well function as a paperweight now.
I can SORTA stand when people say soft bricked, because you can actually fix it. But "Super soft bricked" is a bit over the top to me.
There is a good chance you are NOT in fact bricked at all.
not an idiot
1) apologies for putting this in the wrong area.
2) i know how to use Odin, and what button combo to use.
3) I realize "bricked" means unusable / beyond repair
a) the phone appears to not have a working copy of Android on it at all.
4) Impatience sucks. Time to go fool around with the SDK....
Disclaimer: I will not be responsible for anything that happens to your phone after following this post. You are doing this because you choose to and you alone are responsible for anything that may happen. Use at your own risk.
NOTE: This should work for any screen you are stuck at. I'm just mentioning the screens I have come across.
If your phone is stuck at the LG/Android boot screen or emergency mode or a black screen saying
Code:
fastboot mode started
udc_start()
then your phone isn't bricked, you dont need to panic. Your phone can be fixed right at home by following these steps.
After doing some research, I found that
Code:
fastboot mode started
udc_start()
is displayed when we do something like install custom recovery and failed. There may or may not be additional lines of text, but the procedure is the same for all such cases where the starting 2 lines are the above.
If you can boot into recovery mode (holding the home button, the lower volume button and the power button together after turning off the phone), and if you ave previously backed up your stock ROM, then you can simply flash that through recovery. Remember that the touch screen doesn't work in recovery mode, you will have to use volume up and down buttons to navigate and the menu button to select an option. The method below works even if you cant boot into recovery.
1. Download KDZ Updater and LG united mobile drivers from here.
2. Extract the rar file and install LG United mobile drivers.
3. Disable all LGE modems under modems from windows device manager.
4. Charge your phone since we cant really tell how much juice is left in the battery even though the screen is on.
5. Download the stock firmware (also known as rom) from Lg’s firmware repository. You can download the firmware and firmware version suiting your region from the links I have provided below. But many of these links may not work, so to download the stock 2.2.2 ROM build V10D_00 for India, click here. If you choose to download this stock ROM, then ignore Methods 1 & 2 given below. If however you want to download a ROM for a different country and version, then follow Method 1 or 2.
Method 1:
The following link will list all the country codes for LG optimus p 500.
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/ezlooks_model_list.jsp?model=LGP500
Press ctrl + f on the keyboard to bring up the browser search tool and type the name of your country.
Copy your country’s code. For example for india its AINDBK. Now paste it in the url below where it is marked XXXXXX.
Code:
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP500/XXXXX/V10b_00/V10B_00.kdz
Your link would look something like this after pasting the code
Code:
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP500/AINDBK/V10b_00/V10B_00.kdz
Replace the V10b_00/V10B_00.kdz with the version number you want. For example if i want to install version 10C then i would change the letters from c to b like this V10c_00/V10C00.
Now copy and paste the link in the addressbar of your browser and press enter key. Download should start.
This method may not work for all countries.
Method 2:
If the above method didn't work (it didn't for me), then here’s a list of the latest unbranded firmware as of 9/03/2011 4:15 EST
Just click on the links below to start the DOWNLOAD

6. Install msxml (from the KDZ Updater folder) on your windows pc by double clicking it.
7. a. If your phone is stuck at the Android screen or LG screen or Emergency screen, connect your phone to your PC via USB.
b. If your phone is stuck at fastboot mode started udc_start() screen, then remove the battery and reinsert it. Now press the back key and volume up button and simultaneously connect your phone to your PC. You will get a greenish yellow screen saying Emergency mode.
8. Run KDZ_FW_UPD.exe with administrator privilages (right click, run as administrator in win7).
9. In the software window, select Type as 3GQCT
Select PhoneMode as "DIAG" if your phone is not in emergency mode (i.e., if your phone is in LG/Android screen). If you are in emergency mode, select "Emergency".
In the place where you have to give path for KDZ file, select the Firmware a.k.a ROM you have downloaded using the link you made for your country specific firmware.
10. Press Launch software update and wait for about 10 or 15 minutes. The screen will then say “Emergency mode”. Just wait and let it reboot. Do not disconnect your phone till it is shown "finished".
11. Now switch on your phone. Finished!
[OPTIONAL] Hit the thanks button!
Note: If kdz is unable to see your phone, then try running kdz in compatibility mode for XP, restarting your phone, shaking your phone (I know it sounds crazy but it works sometimes!), restarting your computer, try and try again till it works.
NOTE: If KDZ stops working and phone gets stuck in recovery mode and you have to remove the battery just to turn off the phone, and you cant get into recovery mode or emergency mode, but you're stuck at a black screen, remove the battery and connect the phone via USB to a computer which has LG United mobile drivers installed. Disable all LGE modems under modems from windows device manager.
Unplug the usb cord from your PC and plug it in again. You still shouldn't have a battery in your phone, yet by plugging it in the "Emergency mode" should start automatically. Open up KDZ, select Type "3GQCT" and PhoneMode "EMERGENCY". Select a KDZ file and flash it.
NOTE: If your phone doesn't even turn on, the try holding back + vol up + power and simultaneously connect to a computer which has LG United mobile drivers intstalled via USB. Then you should reach emergency mode. Then just follow the steps mentioned above.
I know that almost all of the above info is already available in different threads, I just wanted to bring all that info together in 1 easy to find post, because when I bricked my phone I had to refer multiple threads and posts (and even some other sites) to make sure of what I was doing and get things right.

That thread uses an entirely different method. I do admit that most (though not all) the info in this thread is already on XDA, but scattered across several threads. I referred 3 or 4 threads, and some other blogs before creating this thread, so it has some info which I didn't find in XDA. And like I mentioned in the first post, I want to make an easy to find easy to understand thread which has all the information needed in 1 place.

+1 For all , Beside , The KDZ Updater Can Brick Your Phone!
So don't unbrick your phone with KDZ Updater!
The best way to unbrick:
1. If you got Fastboot by flashing wrong rom or recovery , use Fastboot command.
2. If you have a " Heavy Useless Black Optimus " , you can use it as A BRICK to build your house OR unbrick it with money at LGE.

Just search in google.
Thanks mate for taking the time to do the write-up. Much appreciated!
As for the alleged other threads on the topic - this one showed up highest on my google search (add "site:xda-developers.com" to the google search terms) , so the other threads don't have the right keywords in.
Its not about whether the information is already on the forums - its about how accessible the info is.
Was trying to install a P500 ROM yesterday afternoon, I bricked my phone - would not go past the Android splash screen... ended up trying repeatedly before finally able to get back into phone and breathing a sigh of relief!!
Props to everyone that contributed to this thread and helped with all the info provided.
What worked for me was:
Removed SD card
REMOVED BATTERY (after 20+ attempts, it was the only thing that made it finally work!)
Disabled Android modem in Windows (running Win7 x64)
Run KDZ in WinXP SP2 mode as Administrator
Once KDZ finished, I disconnected USB cable, replaced battery and successfully rebooted phone.
Shut down phone again and reinstalled SD card, rebooted and everything worked as intended!
Thanks again to everyone who contributed to this thread You are all lifesavers lol

i WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree!! this thread is very useful and is successful in terms of 'bringing it all together' far more then any of the others. Why must some of these members ***** and moan and whine about 'spam'?! yes thats what it is when you say SPAM GET SOMEONE TO DELETE. dont like it dont read it because to be honest had this thread been here months ago...5 optimus ones ago.....sure there are lots that explain howtos....many in unclear, leaving much to the imagination steps(not very well explained) i blame myself for my bricks for following tuts that clearly state (dont blame me if you brick!) then carry on with instructions with the full assumption that every user is going to know those little things that arent even being mentioned during the process. im not really insulting anyone but suggesting some mind their own, others will definitely find good use with more detailed and 'dumbed down' steps and details. noone knows everything...even you whiners and moaners claming SPAM SPAM DELETE MOD DELETE. seriously....some have far too much time on their hands...clearly as it appears i currently do get a life some ppl dont know as much and need a little more 'hand holding' tutorials and this one really would have saved me time and alot of headache period. good tut OP, few months late but hey its here...imma dig out some bricks now and givem another go. \o/
PLS help
My LG OO stuck in lg splash screen. I can not boot in system and recovery also. When i turn on my phone, it just show lg start screen and nothing happend.
I try to flash just recovery with LGMDP, it said complete but i still can not boot in to recovery.
I also try to flash fw with KDZ, LGMDP, LG updater... with or without battery in phone... i have all drivers installed and disabled lg modems in device manager... i also installed msxml.msi... STILL CAN NOT BOOT...
When i flashing with KDZ, it always stop at wparam=8, when phone rebooting but after 6-7 minutes later jump some error and phone still showing LG start screen.. I must pull baterry out to switch off..
Some advice? Is there any other solution? Big thanks for any answer..
After a lot of "inventions" I decided to do factory reset, the SU app icon didn't appeared so, I made the "root" process again.
This time the phone restarted once and the second time he stops trying to reboot but without success... like if some file(s) missing.
I already tried the "factory reset", everything and nothing...

I've tried to flash a kdz rom via kdz updater, an error was ocurred. Now when I turn on the phone it only shows S/W update mode.
What I have to do? Can you help me?
Flashing via kdz updater doesnt be a good idea after all...

OK... you'll need this:
v10a lgp880 europe open > http://bayfiles.com/file/bRZx/AZaxbu/.kdz_et_.dz_.dll_LGP880.v10A.rar OR http://s08.real-debrid.com/dl/74b4v284v2034363943573/.kdz_et_.dz_.dll_LGP880.v10A.rar
KDZ_FW_UPD > http://www.multiupload.com/71BMALY5J7
The .dll to flash P880 > http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdat...8/[LGFlashTool1377]LGP880_120518_Download.zip
My steps were...
1- Install "msxml" (inside KDZ_FW_UPD folder)
2- Install "Windows Enabler" (inside KDZ_FW_UPD folder)
3- Run "UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe" (inside KDZ_FW_UPD folder), select model .dll, you need to select "P880_120518.dll" (downloaded from the link above).
Select .kdz file "V10A_00.kdz", (downloaded from the link above)
Hit the button "Start Upgrade" and wait untill the process be complete.
4- Run the LG Tool "B2CAppSetup" and Upgrade to the newest firmware v10d (it will be made automatically by the program).
And now you should have a "clean" phone
My advice is, before you do this, turn off the phone. Press the "down volume" key and at the same time turn on the phone (it will take a while until turn on).
You should have now the "Android system recovery". with the volume key select "wipe data/factory reset", hit the I/O key to start.
After that select "reboot system now" to restart the phone.
Like that, you'll have a clean phone before you install the new firmware.
Maybe there are some other ways but this was the one I found.
Other users are able to correct or help in this process.
Hope it helps.
Ok, i'll get the kdz file and flash. Can you tell me if this method only works in version V10A? Im trying to flash the V10C from hong Kong. My model used brasilian firmware.
I flash the rom and the work stops on "3GQT : wParam = 2010, Iparam = 18"
I will back later with more information. Hope i can save my phone!

if your mobile is a developer edition, you cannot upgrade using kdz updater, and a similar error is seen (reported by others trying)
but otherwise any kdz firmware should do, its all about the mobile carrier and customization and signal support.
I've dowloaded the things already. When i go home I Will flash it! Hope it works!

Leonel, you have a PM. Let me know something later.
Good luck
Thanks, I Hope it can solved soon.

i believe you can actually upgrade your developer edition mobiles more easily than using kdz updates.
you can simply get a dump of partitions 1,2 and 3 (boot,recovery and system) and then write those to the same position.
if you check in /dev/block/by-name
you should find SOS=p1 and LNX=p2 and USD=p3 (if i remember correct)
write dumps from a non-developer edition and it should boot just like having a custom rom made, for your models.
Right, but how can we do that? How we can discover these files?
Any idea?

i do not have bandwidth to help, but if someone uploads those, which might already be the case in early threads, you get lucky.
but!
remember that if you cannot use kdz files to update/recover your mobile, and if this solution is not bullitt proof, you brick your mobile, if you do something wrong.

Daniel, when in "R&D Test Tool", try in "select type" to use "3GQCT - SmartPhone (WM)" instead of "CDMA - SmartPhone (WM)"
It's just an idea, for now I'm a little lost and don't have a lot of time

its should contain "(WM)" which is WindowsMobile model. you need the one without those WM

Thanks :good:
When I press the power button to power on, the phone automatically enter de S/W update mode.
I've tried to make an hard reset, and that is'nt worked.

well, what you do not know, you should not try? so i guess i just do what the remaining guides say for flashing with the kdz updaters, which is not WM, but if it matters? well, if it becomes bricked , we know one reason maybe..

But once that my phone didn't get "bricked", and the behavior of the phone is exactly the same, probably means that "WM" selected its not so important...
To be honest, after get to the point, that the phone don't work, I don't care a lot about try whatever it is, once that for me it's already "bricked"...
By the way, if hardware is not damaged, how it's possible to say that a device is definitely "bricked"?
Software didn't just "born" with it... It might be hard but a solution but be somehow, sooner or later. I'm I very wrong?
Thanks all to light a little this "road" of mine
Is it possible to clone a XT1069 Hard Brick with another equal smartphone with QPST or other Software?
Acquired recently another xt1069 RetBR identical to mine, trying to put the same in diagnostic mode and searching the web I have good news, I found out how to put xt1069 in diagnostic mode, just make the procedure to enter fastboot connecting the cell with the volume low down for 4 seconds and select the BP Tools mode (the phone will start normally but with enabled diagnostic mode) in the drivers you need to manually install the existing driver and installed with Motorola Device Manager, go to:
Device Manager
> Has an outdated driver with name Motorola QC Diag Port
> double click on this
> Find driver Software on computer
> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
> Show all devices (wait while it loads all drivers)
> Select the Manufacturer: Motorola
> Select the Motorola QC Diag Port driver (ignore the driver compatibility information) and ready.
Now is the situation gets a little complicated ... I have QPST Version 2.7 Build 422, see my device that works in QPST Configuration and he appears to me as:
Phone: MSM8626
ESN: 0
Phone Number: Empty
Banner: MSM8626
Port: COM9 (COM9 (Auto add)).
Hereafter wanted a guide to try to revive the other xt1069 that is with hard brick.
Bootloader Unlock = No
Root = No
Android version = 6.0
Patch Level = 1 / Jan / 16
Version of the baseband = MSM8626BP_1032.3113.99.00R DSTV_CUST
Kernel = 3.4.42-gef77327
System = 24.41.34.titan_retbr_dstv_retbr.en.BR.retbr
Version = MPB24.65-34 number
Sorry my English.
You can try with jtag to read from working phone emmc and flash to bricked emmc. (mobileunbrick.com re alive xt1068 16gb on this way)

Yes it's possible with Jtag, but isn't that expensive? A user like me wouldn't pay for example for a medusa pro jtag 300$ to get fixed a phone which has a price around maybe 100$.

But it looks like you still gonna need programmer mbn
Not to bay, go in the repair servis who have jtag, and pay 20$ to unbrick. In Belgrade only one r.s have riff box jtag. And can't do anything with my phone, say can not access emmc (read only) To send in India will cost to mach money, and maybe can not unbrick my moto g xt1068. I will waiting blank-flash to leak, if leak.
Hi
I have bought a used lg v40 v405ua variant written on box ( which doesnt show sprint or at&t logos/ bloatware or branding) ; I bought it as stuck in bootloop .
I do not know if before it was flashed to this model , or anything else.
After some patience and a number of factory reset I've managed to go over the red lg logo bootload screen freeze, go through the initial settings page and with wifi OFF and no simcard in to arrive to the home page , without freeze ;
I was also able to navigte settings , and to switch to developer / enable oem unlock ON , and usb debugging ON.
I was able to get IMEI , to see it runs Android 9 after factory reset , to read it is v405ua variant , to enter camera and take a pic .
The phone is currently On shows time and date on double tap and I am able still to navigate it into settings with no slow down or freeze .
If I navigate or get into some app with wifi off , or equally if I turn on wifi and it starts exchanging data or updating (?) , then it slows down instantly, usually stuck on a black screen and the 3 android buttons downside , sometimes I am able to push power button and use power menu to turn it off , the majority of times it is freezed and it needs volume down + power button to restart ;
any restart will get it to the lg red logo boot screen , and freeze there ( and I will need to try factory reset/erase ).
I am no expert at all on android/mobiles/recoveries , I can't imagine if it is software that is corrupt or if it is an hardware problem or what else .
I 've read many different threads about unlocking bootloader , rooting (or changing model and else), and I am not sure as there are many options
what should I try from here ?
ps a side information : if I turn on Bluetooth the icon in the tiles menu' blinks on and off , or when I enter the bluetooth activation page and switch it on it remains a pale blue >> in the meanwhile the phone cant see or be seen by any other bluetooth device .
Any help ? thanks all of you who can help me this out
I recommend you start from scratch.
Start here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v40/how-to/guide-lgup-root-t3967858
Use LGUP and Download mode to flash the latest version (Oreo or Pie) of the V40 OS to the phone.

started here :good:https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v40/how-to/guide-lgup-root-t3967858
Download These FIles: DLL LGUP UI_Config
v40 with no root ( my case ) :
Step 1. Install the provided LGUP.msi (you should now have C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP)
Step 2. Install the provided DLL (you should now have C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\Common)
Step 3. Extract the LGUP_UI_Config_m250n_[cxz].zip file anywhere on your computer, then copy or move the file to the common folder (the same one the DLL installs too)
Step 4. Enter download mode and flash any KDZ that is compatible with your device with the Refurbish or Upgrade options.

I did 1. 2. 3.
not sure which "compatible" KDZ should I get , as I don't know which v405UA model is my v40 , .. : supposely there's more v405UA ( different?) models and different KDZ for different v405UA models too ?

My recommendation is to cross flash over to the US version (unless you are not in the US).
Grab either the Oreo or Pie version here:
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmv405qa-firmwares/
[NG]Owner
I am not in the US ( I am in EU )
I am ready at step 3.
OEM developer and USB debugging are switched on , I don't know if I need something else .
+ I still need to understand which "compatible" ( as stated in the lgup thread ) KDZ , among many , to flash it with lgup , and then try the procedure .
no luck until now trying with LGUP 1.15 or 1.16
installed both but they do not start / do not show anything any dialog window any app any alert

That usually means a driver issue. I think you have to have the phone plugged into and recognized by the computer beforre anything will show in LGUP.
As for the kdz, these are the European kdzs: https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmv405ebw-firmwares/
[NG]Owner
it was an Antivirus ( AVG )
at least , I removed it and then all went straight .
I flashed it with the v405QAe20 kdz with lgup 1.16 - refurbish option . very fast and straight .
Now I have "v405UA20e" listed settings / phone / software ( no v405QA20e as expected ) and should probably try flashing it to a european version (?)
New problem though ........ the phone doesn't freeze anymore , but now it shuts off on his own from time to time
where to go from here ? root ?

It depends dude, are you trying to use it in EU? If yes then it'd be a good idea to flash a stock rom from that area. It enables radios/bands that are used in your area so that you'd have no issues calling/texting or i'net.
The post right above yours links to the appropriate ROMs for you so you should have all you need.
After you've flashed the ROM, I'd do a factory reset, in the settings app, not in recovery unless you have the original email info, otherwise you might trigger FRP and you wouldn't wanna do that. This might help with your reboot issue, in fact I'd do it twice in a row just in case.
There you go, you're all set.
I did the factory reset. Problem is ( new...completely) phone have hard time in recharging now......this is *completely new* problem. it came out of nowhere only after last self-switch off( and after flashing the new firmware v405uae20) ; before never showed it . When it was off and I plugged it (before the flash), the phone always got the battery icon showing in the center of the black screen /with the percentage of battery reached.
Now it doesn t.
Or it is an hit and miss ( and it doesn't depend on charger or failing usb port) . Before this the phone has remained alive 4 days without much use and no simcard in, without issues
