Will restoring data with pc companion bring back problems...? - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all
I hope you can help me!
I have had my Z3C since November and therefore I have made many updates on it and it now has 5.1.1 running.
It's not rooted and therefore I will be using pc companion.
My question is: I am having some problems with the icons being too bright when I turn on the phone from standby - and some would say it's also about time I made a factoryreset on my phone - and I therefore would like to try if resetting it could solve this problem.
My plan is to make a backup of the phones data using PC companion, then make a factoryreset of my Z3C and then restore the phone's data again using pc companion...
But will this bring back the problems, that might be on the phone now or will the Android software just restore/reset/fix it self (or what ever the reason for resetting is) and then afterwards not be able to go back to the faulty software...?
I hope you understand my question and will help me...

Xperia TX freezing & restarting after JB update

hi everyone....
my brother updated his xperia tx to jelly bean using flash tool before 3 hours... nothing showed in flashtool or the phone about any problem in flashing
in the last hour the phone started to restart & freeze
it's freezing suddenly & you cannot do anything but taking out the battery
can a factory data reset help?? also we have a backup on PC companion so is it recommended to return it on the phone??
Try repair option in PCC.

which one! I asked if you repaired or restored a backup.....
If you repair the phone it should be exactly like a factory shipped phone.
My only other thing to say will be have you got anything in your sd card (Both internal or external) that may be causing this? Any init.d scripts that reduce voltage etc...try deleting the contents of the sdcards and repairing again. (Obviously back anything up you want to keep)

i did repaired twice from PC companion and did once i think from the phone itself, and i don't have Scards its only the phone internal storge..
when i did it first in flash tool it didn't give me any error and then i did repaired it twice from pc companion however whats strange in ICS i never had the reboot problem
and if i remember correctly it only delete the programs etc, but the photos/music etc it never left the phone with both options i did...
so you suggesting to also wipe internal storage and repair to see if it reboot or not? i already have back up for all stuff so it won't hurt to try
thanks alot really for helping and sorry for my bad english ^^;
If you have a backup then try it.
Have you got a bootloop or do you have some reboots? What i mean is, does the phone actually boot up and only reboot occasionally or is it just bootlooping?

Sent from my LT30a using xda premium
so now i did wipe to internal storage and did repair and such now im facing new problem the phone turn off and and when i try to switch it on...it wont work i have to remove battery and insert it again to make it work, any idea?
How this end up? Anyone has find a solution for this problem? I have xperia t with same problem. The phone mostly freezes and restarts on long listings like fb/twitter feeds, messages...
i have TX same on my device freeze and some times don't wakeup only when battery pulled out

[Q] Getting back to stock - with root

hi all
I think I probably know the answer to this but just to make sure..
I have for a long time had gregs Assaye-V2.0.1, which was great but was starting to slow down somewhat. so for my sins I tried with CM 10(.1 i think) still not quite sure about the differences between cm10 versions, but I digress.
anyway I put cm 10.1. I tried both FXP and so called stable CM release and its been a nightmare.
GPS problems, camera problems, browser problems - basically multiple reboots daily making the phone pretty much unusable. so thinking that I would like to get back to the beginning. I would like to maintain root and retain CWM but avoid the standard bloat that comes with stock roms.
Happy to bung a custom kernel on there, not after massive speed as I don't play games, battery life and reliability are paramount for me.
I wonder if someone could recommend the best way to go about this, and possibly a FTF/Kerne/ROM to go with that recommendation.
is it worth re-locking the bootloader for instance? can you even do that and maintain root.. ? so many questions - sorry I have gotten rather out of touch.
I would stick Assaye on again but seems it hasn't moved for quite some time and not sure if there is a better option.
any help very much appreciated
just to be clear - my current situation is:
Xperia T bought from Phones 4U
rooted
unlocked bootloader
currently running CM 10.1
thanks
nat
Thanks for using my rom, I hope it worked fine for you
In order to go back to stock you MUST relock the bootloader. Or you can flash doomkernel (which is for stock roms) and before you let it boot properly go into recovery and flash a stock based rom
If you relock the bootloader your phone will bootloop on CM if you try to turn it on, don't worry, just run pccompanion and force a repair of the software.
Then your phone will be exactly the same as when you took it of the box, so you can start again..
EDIT
My rom never updated because it was always just for me, and I was happy with it, now I have a Z1 and my daughter has my T, she hates my rom ;( and insists on CM
hi greg
thanks for the reply
guess I would be happy with a stock based rom to retain root. could you recommend one - other than your own?
which as it happens I am bunging back on as i type this...
thanks
also how do I set the buttons back to the original ones..?
sur eI have asked this before but cant find the answer...
To get back to original stock then once you have locked the bootloader just run pccompanion and force a repair of you r software in software update,
To get the button back to stock just push a stock systemUI.apk to system/app or better still install xposed framework and xblast module.
I think it works on the T, try it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
then with the xblast module you gat a choice of buttons plus a load of other options as well
hi
so, I flashed the ftf re-lock bootloader.
all appeared to go well but....
I have been trying to no avail to get pc companion to run a repair.
the phone will not turn on, all I get when i hit the power is the led flashes red briefly twice, I can keep holding the power and it will keep doing a double rad flash every second or so.
when I plug into the pc - as part of the repair process - ie. holding down vol + power. I get a windows sound for connecting then another for disconnecting - I havent of course actually pulled it out at this point.
any ideas?
guessing its just not getting the green led for flashmode thus pc companion is not going to run a repair...
any other suggestions..?
thanks
edit: seems it has connected with a green led now.. however - it does not stay connected long enough for pc companion to fully download the update and i have to start all over again..
is there any way I can download the update separately and sort it that way..
Leave it on charge on your wall charger for the rest of the day, then try pccompanion later tonight
hi
thanks for the replies.
I had left it charging all last night. seems that it will only stay in flashmode for a short time, which isnt long enough to complete the flashing
the downloading part of the pc companion had completed and it was doing to pc -> phone bit, but never completes as green light goes off before it finishes..
I will leave it charging again overnight, but fear the worst.
presumably flashing a stock ftf with flashtool would achieve similar results?
will give that a go too and see how it goes..
hoping that I could run pc companion after doing that if it works?

if lfashtool works then yes...but not sure what your issue is here...
finally success, managed to use flashtool to flash parts of the ftf at a time, left it charging overnight and booted up fine in the a.m.
then have just ran pc companion to get a fresh stock one on.
thing is even though I have done that, it has still kept all the random folders on the internal storage, is there any way to clear them. PC companion says it will wipe them but it doesnt seem to have done so..
thanks

[Q] Unable to start Mobile data unless the phone is restarted

Hi - My XZ1 is one week old, on stock, unrooted and having .257 fw. I have not disabled any of the apps. I am in an area where I have only 2G. I have tried with GSM only and WCDMA (Preferred)/GSM option for network.
When I reach home, I disable 2g as I have wifi at home. Again, when I re-enable it either thru quick settings or settings proper, it does not get enabled. It forces me to restart the phone. Once the phone is restarted, i can enable the mobile data thru quick settings. Any idea what could be wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help.
It happened again today.. Appreciate any response on this..

It is the Sony PC Companion software for Windows which will be installed if you successfully connect to the PC for the first time (or you can download and install it if that does not happen). Once you connect the phone to the PC using the USB cable and start the PC Companion, you have an option to repair the phone. It will wipe the phone and the internal SD card (not the external Card) so you will have to back up the phone using the backup option in PCC (You will anyway be prompted by the PCC to backup when you try to repair - Just note that it can be a lengthy process if you have a lot of data.
Thanks a lot for the info.

Xperia T - Not possible to turn on Wifi after Updating to Android 4.3

Yesterday I updated my Xperia T to Android 4.3 via Sony Companion Software. My phone is not rooted. Everything apperently went fine, but after the Update process I wanted to turn on my Wifi, but it did not work. I tried that from the quicksettings and form the settings directly. The button remain grey for a certain time and the turns back to off.
I turned off my phnone and on again, but a white triangle with a screw came and the phone remained in that status for more than 6 hours. After that it turned on, but the Wifi problem remains. Regarding Bluetooth, that works fine.
What I noticed is that when I check the phone info and the Wifii settings, no MAC Adress is listed there for Wifi. I don't think its a hardware problem, because everything was fine before updating.
What should I do? I am afraid to turn my phone off bcause it could go back to the white triangle remaining for several hours in that state. I dont think a factory reset would help, because there seems to be an update problem and I would like to rather not loose all my settings.
Any help would be very appreciated, because I urgently need wifi in my university.......

The ftf file is the stock Rom, you can find it here on xda. Flashtool also. Flashtool only works if you have windows xp, vista 7 or 8. Not on 8.1. Repairing it using pcc should be easier though

Tnx again. Regarding stoch Rom, I think I am a newbie in that field. I will try to repair via PCC. I have sony bridge for Mac or a Windows PC with Windows 8.1. Which one would you prefer? I updated to Android 4.3 on a Windows 8.1 PC. Do you think that might be a reason, why there is an issue with the update process or something went wrong?
Windows 8.1 works with one of the updates the launched not so long ago

Unfortunately, reparing it with PCC did not help and I am quite desperate. I bought the phone last year as a used one. I am quite a newbie in this field, but could it be, that the rom installed is an altered one and a normal update via PPC leads to this Wifi problem? Normally that should not be the case, but how can I find that out what is causing the problem and what must I do to overcome this drama of mine. I whish I didn't perform that update, because everything wAs working fine before.....

ok what u need to do is root your phone first . they are some threads that show u how to do it i recommed after rooting jus use this rom
httphttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647459
to root unable debug mode in settings/developer
and unknown sources in settings/security .. first u will have to go back to 4.1.2 to root ur phone and then follow the above instructions
Look at these threads, it can help a lot:

A factory reset would definitely work. You don't know how many times I've seen people (even with different phones) have problems like these because they change their Android version and/or flash different ROMs without wiping their partitions, i.e., doing at least a Factory Reset. If you were rooted you could try deleting the "wpa_supplicant.conf" file in /data/misc/wifi. The problem is, since you're already on 4.3, there is no sure way to root 4.3 unless your bootloader is unlocked. So unless you find out a way to backup your data/settings, you're either going to lose it all when doing a Factory Reset, or downgrading to 4.1.2 (to root), or even flashing a stock 4.3 FTF, because I'm sure your problem is that you haven't wiped.

[Q] Questions regarding hard/soft resets and speaker phone volume

1. What is the difference between a hard and soft reset? As far as I know, a soft resets is done through the backup and restore feature in Options while a hard reset is done through the recovery menu. Does a soft reset only reset options and delete data while a hard reset wipes the phone and then reinstalls everything again?
2. Is it possible to do a hard reset without going into the recovery menu which I think the phone has to be rooted before access is available?
3. Can I do a hard reset with the Companion software?
4. When the phone was new, calls through the speaker phone were loud. Now even at max volume is can barely hear when in a car. I've read that a hard reset fixes this. Is this true?
One more question...
If I do a software "repair" or reinstall the OS using PC Companion, does it always install the latest version of the OS available for the phone or does it install 4.4.4 regardless? Meaning, if 5.0 is finally officially released for the phone, would wiping/repairing or reinstalling the OS result in PC Companion installing 5.0 or would it still install 4.4.4 (since that is what the phone launched with)?

If you repair via PC Companion, it will stay on the OS version it currently runs. Repair on 4.4.4 will keep 4.4.4 and 5.0.2 will keep 5.0.2.
For calls use this combo of settings

Soft reset means it will wipe data, keep current OS version.
Hard Reset means it will wipe data and bring the phone to its initial OS. As far as i know, pc companion "repairs" are soft resets. Because that's what repairing is supposed to do. It's supposed to fix current problems, so 5.0.2 will stay on 5.0.2

Thanks.
I did some reading/researching and it seems the the repair feature of PC Companion actually replaces/reinstalls the operating system. Here is an old guide for the "repair" feature:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504809
Well I tried the "repair" feature on PC Companion. It downloaded the latest software and reinstalled everything from scratch. It booted up like a new phone (even with apps I hadn't seen before). I guess it does wipe and reinstall everything.
Yes but did the firmware version change? Or are you on the same firmware as you were before?
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Free mobile app
Actually, I first updated the phone to 5.0.2 with PC Companion from 4.4.4. The update changed the firmware version. While installing, there was a point where the phone displayed "Optimizing apps" and went through 300 or so of them. Then, I tried the "repair" function of PC Companion. It performed a similar install process but when I booted it up, it was like a new phone (along with the "rituals" that you have to do when you turn on a new phone for the first time) along with apps I hadn't seen before. This time there was no "Optimizing apps" during the install/repair. Obviously, the firmware stayed the same because there is no new version currently available. Pretty sure that the repair function reinstalls everything vs. resetting everything.
