Ok this might sound like a dumb question but I'm just being overly cautious to not brick my device.
I'm on build 4.4.2 NCE stock, I'm rooted with towelroot, and I have the safestrap recovery working. Can I just flash any rom now, such as lollipop roms, or am I only able to flash 4.4.2 kitkat roms or roms with [NCE] in the name? To my understanding 5.0 cant be rooted and we cant downgrade from 5.0 to 4.4.2 due to a locked bootloader or something like that.
I already have a nandroid backup created in safestrap and I have flashed dozens of roms before on my s3. Say for example if I wanted to flash the unified cm12 rom which is 5.1 lollipop http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ent/rom-cyanogenmod-12-1-android-5-1-t3066252
Would that be a bad idea or would it work just fine?
Also, I'm supposed to flash in the stock slot in safestrap since romslots don't work right?

DO NOT FLASH ANY CM ROMS. You have a locked bootloader and it will not work. Stick with the 4.4.x roms in the development threads here in the AT&T forum. DO NOT FLASH 5.0 roms unless you upgrade to 5.0 through Muniz "update to 5.0 and keep root" thread which can be found in the "General section"

No. You have locked bootloader. Read about your device or you'll end up with an expensive paper weight. This forum is filled with tons of info. Just click the search button.

Hey ho guys. I have a 5S with the Downgrade to NCE flash found on this board. I would like to have the latest Kitkat without updating to Lollipop and getting the locked bootloader. I just downgraded today to NCE and bravely did one OTA. It got me to NG3. Can I OTA again to get OA1 or will it jump me to OC4? Or should I use one of the methods here on the board to upgrade and totally avoid OTA? Thanks, later.

If you want root capabilities i wouldn't take any OTA. You'll still have to go back to NCE to root anyhow i believe. As far as the boot loader it is and always has been locked on the AT&T S5. The only method for root is towel root and I'm not sure if it'll work on NG3. If not you'll have to go down to NCE

Yeah, I should have preference that I am after root. But towelroot works on NG3, you can read about that here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/g900and3tong3keeprootota-zip-t2862299
After I took the brave OTA I followed the threads instructions and it worked. There is a thread here that talks about root for OA1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...to-root-g900aucu2aoa1-4-4-4-2-3-2015-t3021120
It says just to take the OTA. I guess its still safe to take the OTA then after NG3? And I can't seem to find any rom on here thats stock OA1. Anyone know if I aren't seeing it? Thanks.

Most of the roms are based on nce or ng3. If you go to oa1 and flash a nce or ng3 rom your phone will be slow because of the different bootloader, and the camera is screwed up. I'd stay on ng3 and not worry about oa1. That's my opinion. I'm on 5.0 running the Twi5ted rom and having no problems with it. Most devs have moved to 5.0 lollipop and the 4.4.2 - 4.4.4 roms will be more and more abandond in my opinion.

Ah see I haven't tried any of the custom roms posted on here yet. But can I have NC3 as stock and on another ROM Slot (using Safestrap) have a Lollipop rom? Having one slot be 4.2.2 and the other be 5, basically. So the bootloader is different from NC3 to OA1, good to know. I'm glad I stopped at NC3 then. Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure on the different slots and bootloader mainly because when i used different slots the battery drain was unbearable. I don't know if they every fixed the battery drain issue when using different slots. It was bad enough that i just stuck to the stock slot and flashed only in that slot.
Can anyone pls tel how do i downgrade from marshmallow 6.0.1 to lollipop 5.0.2?
Currently my bootloader version is 48.83. I dnt remember what it was on lollipop. Pls help!
Just use your backup that you made prior to upgrading to Marshmallow. If you don't have the backup, just flash a different ROM. Plenty of guides on the site.

I have made the backup. But i have heard about many people hard bricking the phone when trying to downgrade and then again upgrading via ota. Thats why i askd.
If u are on custom rom other than motorola marshmallow soak test ota.. you will not get ur phone bricked when downgrading. Hard brick occurs if u downgrad from soak test ota to lollipop. In your case u just need to flash retaildsdsall firmware via fastboot mood. Search for tutorials for reverting to stoc 5.0.2.
Just DON'T CHANGE BOOTLOADER. You shouldn't be able to downgrade bootloaders but Motorola screwed that and with M bootloader you "can" downgrade, but bootloader downgrade results in BRICK. Just flash the rom you want, EXCEPT THE BOOTLOADER. For custom roms you shouldn't have problems.

All I can say is that I was on Nexus Experience 10.0.4 (Marshmallow) but could not get adopted storage to work so restored my previous AOSP lollipop ROM from TWRP backup and no issues. My Bootloader is 48.82. I have never used the soak test version or OTA version of marshmallow.
I have also in the past restored stock lollipop V5.0.2 from other lollipop versions with no issues.

Just don't downgrade your Bootloader and you should be fine, if you're using an easyinstaller script to flash stock Lollipop make sure and remove the lines of code that flash motoboot.img & I'd also recommend removing the line that flashes gpt.bin to be safe.
Hello
I have a moto g titan xt1068 dual sim which was originally running stock lollipop 5.02 and was updated with the OTA stagefright update and then the OTA MM6.0 official by motorola.
I have since installed custom roms cyanogen 13.0 and cyanpop 6.2
I know my bootloader is now the latest, so my question is can I now only install MM based roms? or can I still install KK & LP based custom roms?
or will installing LP or KK based roms hard brick my device?
Many thanks for any help
i'd like to know it too...
I'm not sure, but I can't really see why not. The bootloader being the latest changes jack squat on the question of being able to install older versions of Android or not. I mean, I WAS able to install the stock LP ROM on the MM bootloader, but your mileage may vary.
Yeah you can. Just don't try to downgrade your bootloader while downgrading to previous stock Android version. Itll brick your phone.
But just flashing custom Roms is safe.

That's bullsh-t.. You can always downgrade your rom, but you have to be sure you're not downgrading your bootloader. So if you're using oneclick installer you have to remove the command from the script which will try to downgrade your bootloader. Also after downgrading you have to be super sure that you will not update it with OTA!
Btw.: I'm not sure downgrading through fastboot can even brick your phone.

That's right.. You can touch your bootloader only when you have to upgrade it, for example in case of updating to Android N. Which I think will never happen (of course officially).
Here you can find a nice guide to downgrade your Android version.

Since Droid Turbo XT1254 doesn't yet have stock Marshmallow from Verizon, I assume you are on a custom Marshmallow ROM or @iiWoodstocK Marshmallow Brazil ROM, based on the XT1225 stock Marshmallow ROM.
You flashed it with TWRP, which means your bootloader is unlocked.
You are still using Verizon's Lollipop radio and I assume you are still using Lollipop bootloader.
Just flash the Lollipop ROM of your choice.
If you want to go back to stock Lollipop, CF's ROM is very close or you can even flash stock image via adb or rsdlite.
IF for some reason you did flash the Marshmallow bootloader, then exclude GPT.bin from any flash commands. You can't downgrade bootloaders.
I flashed "aokp_quark_mm_unofficial_2016-10-02_0936"
I put this rom by TRWP from lollipop 5.1 verizon. I do not know if the bootloader was updated, I do not think.
Then I can go back to 5.1 verizon stock by Rsd
or fastboot?
Thank you for answers and sorry for the bad English ^^

Yes. You flashed AOKP ROM. You can go back to stock completely, but you would get stock recovery, not TWRP (until you reflashed TWRP).
You can also flash CF ROM (computerfreek274) which is tweaked stock-based Droid Turbo Lollipop. You wouldn't even lose TWRP.
See here:

On stock or stock-based ROM like CF, the light only comes on if you have a very low battery. It's not a message/email notification light on stock.
On the Quark, the "notification" light only works on a few CM-based custom ROMs. @bhb27 experimented and enabled it in Resurrection Remix and Bliss and AOKP maintainer uses his coding.
If you want that, and also Lollipop, then you would have to go to the Lollipop version of Resurrection Remix, which is not being updated anymore. It still works, and you can find it over in the other forum if you scroll down into the development threads -- but @bhb27 is focusing all his attention on current software.
This question is as close to mine as I can find so I hope posting here is OK.
I got the VZ OTA update (Before unlock and root) to marsh and it literally broke a few of the programs I use. Some of them will never get updates so that is out. So I would like to go back to 5. Because I did get the OTA to 6 is it possible to go back to 5? Yes I am unlocked and rooted. OR would trying one of the 7's be better?

If you are unlocked and rooted right now (I bolded that statement), yes you can downgrade firmware. But you have to omit gpt.bin in the commands. It's up to you if you wish to try Nougat custom ROMs but your question concerns older programs (apps) that need Lollipop, I thought.
Are there any comparable apps you can use? I don't know what functions these apps do, but if it's related to how the phone functions custom ROMs have many, many built in tweaks/options/enhancements.
Hi recently few members oriented me about the note 3 att version issues when trying to add a new port to it. I read a little and now i am looking for recommendations to get the best (fastest, clean, uptodate) por for my phone. Opinion recommendations are welcome. I am looking for something stable.
If the n900a is running a 4.3 or newer bootloader, the bootloader is locked which means twrp cannot be installed to the phone and the phone will only run custom roms that can be flashed with safestrap or possibly flash fire.

Nope, I know of no way around the locked bootloader. Same situation exists for the AT&T Samsung s4 which also has a locked bootloader.
I have never seen a post where someone can run twrp or cwm on an at&t s4 or note 3 with a locked bootloader.
Ohh well there goes my hope i guess i cant do anything. Any other kind of modification i can do to this phone?
You can root to remove bloatware. You can also use safestrap to flash some custom ROMs. Look in the development thread for ROMs that work with a locked bootloader. Here's an example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786666

Do you have a link to any tutorials showing how to root a n900a without needing TWRP? All the guides I am seeing are not n900a specific or tie-in custom ROM flashing as well which is obviously not applicable in this case.
