I'm looking to find out if there is any kind of on device Root app in the way of Framaroot, Kingroot, iRoot, etc. That will work on a Moto G XT1064 running Android 5.0.1 I don't have a PC or have access to one, I've had the phone for 2 months now and I haven't been able to find anything on this subject

Nope I don't think so there is any other way. Although kingroot worked on my XT1068. More importantly for rooting moto you need to unlock the bootlloader and for that you need a computer.
As a matter of fact kingroot rooted my phone with bootloader locked but I could not install twrp using flashify app plus booting takes longer time so you need to be patient

I am so happy to land this device. Is rooting as easy as using lingo. And then could I just install the latest safestrap for our Verizon moto x?
Thanks

I believe every other root method was attempted, don't waste your time, the above method or rockmymoto or pawnmymoto are the only root hijack method.

Did something happen?? I just switched over from my atrix hd it's been rooted and unlocked bootloader for over a year. Well my wife thought if I did the same to get atrix she could get more money out of it. Rooting and unlocking the bootloader on hers was one of the most time consuming unlock I've done. I had to use ubuntu and etc etc...wow did she get an update that made it so complicated from when i did mine??

If she was on 4.1.x a few months ago, then yeah...
AFAIK The Ubuntu Root method wasn't so bad though. After one or two tries it goes through easy.
The bootloader unlock was rather easy as well.
At least you managed to root & unlock it so it all worked out right? ?

@needleyepoke Myth Tools, which uses motopocalypse to unlock the bootloader and motochopper to root. Takes about a minute each. Or you can download each tool seperately

I just wanna install cyanogenmod i rooted and kept the stock rom cus i wanted to keep using smartactions but after having tons of problems i switched to juice defender ultimate and i see no reason to stay on stock firmware with its bad battery life and excessively high ram usage
I was just referred to this site for guidance on rooting my Verizon XT1096 (Moto X 2014) running Lollipop 5.0. I understand there was a problem with the locked bootloader on this particular device that has been preventing root access. Is this still the problem? Is root still not being achieved? And also, how can I determine if my device has a locked bootloader?
Thanks
Reboot into fastboot menu it will tell you if its unlocked
There is no root for the Verizon version.
Your phone has a locked bootloader, and unfortunately there is no root for it either. Sorry to say, but you are stuck with a stock phone.

My son has a moto x bought in 2014 - XT1052. How can i root it safely, because i am a little afraid of the process. I have in mind that is very dificult to do that in this phone, anybody as made it? I have the OPO rooted and is great, my son wants some of the functionalities that i have in my phone but it needs to be rooted...
Sorry for my english (not my 1st or 2nd language)...
yes possible to root, i've rooted mine with king root, but you need to unlock your bootloader first, then install the .apk file of king root(the easiest method to root moto x), then get twrp recovery and you're good to go !

Hey there, I've been searching for hours but can't seem to find the method to unlock the bootloader of Motorola MOTO X (XT1097) 2nd gen (AT&T) running android version 5.1.1
Update: I managed to root (temporarily) with kingroo v 8.4.1. To do so all you have to do is factory restore moto x and then without activating Google ID do following
1) try root with king root which will fail, no need to panic.
2) clear cache of King root and then run it again.
Voila you've achieved temporary root permissions.

Try motorola bootloader unlock site which is probably not possible but worth a try, else search sunshine bootloader thread support moto x 2014..
I've tried that already, in vain. Kingroot and sunshine thingy seems to works. Too bad it is not free :crying: I wish it was free.
You can check the status in fastboot
