Ahhh...?rooting and unlocking bootloader sucked! - Motorola Atrix HD

Did something happen?? I just switched over from my atrix hd it's been rooted and unlocked bootloader for over a year. Well my wife thought if I did the same to get atrix she could get more money out of it. Rooting and unlocking the bootloader on hers was one of the most time consuming unlock I've done. I had to use ubuntu and etc etc...wow did she get an update that made it so complicated from when i did mine??

If she was on 4.1.x a few months ago, then yeah...
AFAIK The Ubuntu Root method wasn't so bad though. After one or two tries it goes through easy.
The bootloader unlock was rather easy as well.
At least you managed to root & unlock it so it all worked out right? ?

I don't think there is currently a way to do that. If you were to flash an unbranded firmware onto the phone would that allow you to unlock the bootloader (allowing installation of CWM)? I can't unlock my bootloader due to my PC being broken.

Flashing unbranded firmware will not allow you to unlock the bootloader if you currently cannot unlock it.
Well, no promises of any kind, but there is that one user which claims that after updating to 3.195 the bootloader status changed from non-unlockable to unlockable.
I have to stress out, I cannot confirm nor explain this and I do not propose that anybody tries this.

I also have this problem, the boot loader is locked and I need to install the recovery. Prompt really working bootloader unlock method, none of the methods I did not ride. [Q] Xperia T (LT30a) Locked + Custom Roms

Hey all,
I've been using my Xperia T on the Rogers network here in Canada for a couple months and wanted to throw a custom rom on it.
After doing some research unfortunately it is Not possible to unlock my bootloader. There is also no way to boot into "Recovery Mode" which I assume has something to do with the locked bootloader.
I've noticed that you can downgrade to .303 but those roms look like they are for LT30p. Will they work with my LT30a?
I was hoping to get a version of CM on my phone. Is it even possible? I've read that maybe I can load certain roms but will be unable to modify the kernel? Will that work ok?
Thanks for you time!

if you are willing to go for CM then the answer is NO. you need to have a BL unlocked device with you. did you check with http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com ? and your mobile as well to confirm whether it is unlock-able or not. Check Here ..
but even with a locked BL you can install custom ROMs to spice your device. there are some ROMs which are specifically designed to be used with locked BLs.. that means they will run on Stock Kernel with customer ROMs.. .. for my LT30at (BL locked) i'm using a custom ROM
Yes it is indeed locked and cannot be unlocked. There's one Rom for my device I saw but it looked dated.

You should be able to use any of the custom ROMs in the development section for locked bootloaders. I have an LT30at and I have used all of the ones in there at different times.

Problem with recovery z1 Help please.

Ok so i've made a mistake, fortunately I can still use my phone but i'm in unfamiliar territory.
What I did was download the 4.3 Rom by RomAur, installed the rom and the recovery as per the instructions within the thread, then rebooted to flashmode and entered flashtool so I could flash the kernel and baseband from 290, but made the mistake of excluding kernel and baseband and flashing the only other option which was BOOTBUNDLE, and since then my recovery has been inaccessible.
I've reflashed the dual recovery but it won't allow me to access it via the power on up or down method or the adb reboot recovery method.
I really can't continue with this phone or flash anything without a working recovery, does anyone have any idea how to get my recovery back please??
Any help would be appreciated.
I'm also wanting to unlock the bootloader but without a working recovery i'm a little hesitant to begin.
Phone: Sony Z1 C6903
Rom: RomAur v4.0
Bootloader status: Locked
Flash the kernel and baseband from 290 in flashtool then.

Well i've gone and downgraded but used an unbranded ftf, which has now taken over my IMEI, which now reads 0000000000000000.
In a bad way here and stuck in work with limited internet, i'm now back on a 534 rom and feel like smashing this thing up.
Going home soon so will sit down and go through it all again from scratch, wish i'd just left it on my old monx rom now.
Bad times.
Any other ideas Greg ? Or anyone else?
just upgrade back, I believe you get your IMEI back that way..
The problem you are having is that you need unlocked boot to get a properly working recovery and root on 4.3

Ah i see, well i'm downloading an ftf which is t-mobile 534, it's the closest thing i could get to EE, as at the moment i have no recovery and no root.
So should i do this in this order.
get this tmobile 534 and re root and get recovery, i imagine at this point my IMEI will still be missing (hopefully not) then what would you do?
Update to 4.3 by using one of those roms? and then unlock the bootloader? As thats where I ended up losing recovery, i'm thinking thats maybe down to me flashing boot bundle instead of kernel and baseband through flash tool.
Also doesn't unlocking the bootloader require system rw access?
And thanks by the way Greg, i appreciate your help.
Same thing happened to me. So I flashed Nordic 4.3 kept my data booted then flashed the kernel that comes with twrp. So far everything is great

1) Update to 4.3 using a FTF of your choice.
2) Unlock bootloader (This will wipe system and internal memory so have a backup of internal sdcard)
3) Flash any of the three kernels from the top of this post, I am using the third one with philz recovery.
4) enter recovery and flash the SuperSU.zip found in that same post.
Done.
You do not need root to unlock bootloader. The kernels have the recovery incorporated into them

Is there any solid data on how/why some Z1s cannot be bootloader unlocked? I have a C6906 from Overseas Electronics which I think was sourced from Canda and cannot be BL unlocked, though it's sim unlocked and otherwise works fine on AT&T LTE.
I found a thread/post here mentioning that Sony may be able to "fix" these devices (and possibly for free, at that). I'm going to run down that angle, but if there's any technical data on what could be preventing the BL unlock I'd be very interested in doing some legwork on my own.

Not too sure mate, think its coded not to be unlockable, in which case someone would have to do quite a bit of digging to undo whatever was done. And seeing as that the vast majority of people knew to buy from a source that doesn't have the NO to unlocking the BL I would say that its not going to happen any time soon. I usually do a bit of digging before I buy a phone, rushed into this one and I'm paying for it now.
I'll check out that link you put up, maybe there's hope yet.
Edit: as for the link you put up, that's just for the sim lock.
If you want an unlockable phone then you'll either have to claim from a 3rd party insurer an hope that they give you an unlocked phone or contact Sony for an RMA and hope that they give you one. Otherwise I can't see it.
But in all fairness your missing custom kernels and aosp type ROMs. Most everything else will work fine, including all (well most) the ROMs that are in the android development section, so that's not a total loss by any means.
When roots fixed completely for 4.3, well see more.

Stop stop. Don't do that. Just get the unlock code and unlock the boot loader. That way you can root and recover and not mess with exploits that can wreck your phone while the boot loader is locked.
If its unlocked you don't need to jump through those hoops. Simply flash twrp recovery and reboot system and it will install supersu.

You are right. I don't want to unlock the boot loader because of the warranty issue.
Following the process - although lengthy - will root without voiding the warranty.

Catch 22 then... Because once you go 4.4.2 you won't be able to downgrade anyway. BTW, at least until recently, the phone comes with 4.2.2 and immediately updates to 4.4 so you shouldn't have to downgrade if you want to try all that. Here's the other thing you should know... You have 2 weeks to return of exchange the phone (30 days in California) from the day you got it. You unlock and root and do all that and find an issue you can return it regardless of have it replaced. I know because I had to do that... My moto maker x was also boot loader unlocked and I got my money back.
Its not all that likely you will get something wrong with the phone past the initial period but it's up to you. You are more likely to break the phone trying to root exploit than it breaking past 2 weeks out of warranty.

What if my phone is Developer Edition (GSM) - will I be able to downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2? I am willing to unlock bootloader and to root.
If you take the OTA to 4.4.2 you get the 30.B4 bootloader. From what I've read, you cannot go back to an earlier bootloader and earlier system versions will brick if attempting to use them with the 30.B4 bootloader. So no, I don't think you can revert to anything earlier if you get to 4.4.2. At least this is my understanding.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...p-v2-8-7-0-sony-z3-e6553-ivykitakami-t3198009 from .251 to install TWRP and root it. Don't forget to flash SuperSU-v2.46.zip through recovery after the dual-boot zip to get root.
Danke and Happy New Year in advance.
Root only with unlocked bootloader. U Will loose some sony features. Maybe if we flash and old system ftf we can perform dirty root.

I'm aware you can only root with unlocked bootloader. I perfectly know of the risks involved, by the way I unlocked my phone's long time ago when root exploit became available for this phone on earlier firmware.
I even got a new replacement phone off Sony (bootloader since unlocked) when my screen cracked and I sent it off for repairs.
In life, "no pain no gain". ??
I constantly check this forum for any news on root this firmware version, am already unlocked and my camera didn't focus as it should be, I really didn't notice any other feature down.
Getting new updates feels like more far away to get root...
Thx about the info. I almost open my bl. I dont understand why sony makes camera worst openning the bl. this is the only thing That freezening to open my bl. Did You try to Apple the mods for it (like 2.0 GHz and Quick change 2.0)?

I'll be perfectly honest. I see no difference in my camera since I unlocked the bootloader
Even in low Light environment?

Lol! You know the focus here was on root for unlocked bootloader on. 266 firmware because nothing yet in sight as far as locked bootloader is concerned.
