Hi,
I want to factory reset (wipe user data, install fresh system) my ME176CX.
The tablet runs Lollipop 5.0 (second update by ASUS) and is rooted -- done
with the temporary CWM method. The second OS-update was installed
via the temporary CWM method, too.
What I did:
Titanium Backup of all user data.
Remove SDcard from tablet.
Shut off tablet.
Press volume down.
Press On/Off
Boot into droidboot (bugdroid standing in the middle of the screen)
Select Recovery
Press On/Of Switch
The screen instantly switches to a llying bugdroid with an exclamation mark
sign above its stommach.
A message on the screen below says: Error!
I could switch off and reboot normally into the "old" system.
What's going wrong here? How can I start a reliable and valid
factory reset?
Thank very much in advance for any help!
Best regards,
tuxic

I have been tearing my hair out for like six straight hours now... so first I started with completely stock 12B.
Here is what I did.
1) Root using ioroot method
2) Install TWRP using FreeGee (which I'm now reading caused this entire mess god damnit)
3) Go into TWRP and format data to get ready to flash stock rooted debloat
4) Accidentally format sdcard so I have to get my rom zip back onto my phone
5) adb push keeps failing because rom file is so big so i flash a smaller size AOSP rom which boots
6) MTP transfer my stock rom zip file to my phone
7) go back to TWRP, wipe everything again (except sdcard obviously) and flash the stock rom
8) stock rom hangs at boot logo for ~20 minutes so i force restart, try again three times
9) go back into TWRP, TWRP starts not flashing things and telling me I have a partition error
10) TWRP isn't working for me anymore so I try a revert back to stock (verizon .tot) method posted here using LG Flash Tool
11) Fails twice
12) Phone has no more TWRP and only download mode
My questions
1) Is this phone totally screwed because it is the replacement I just got for my old one and I can't even unroot it to get another replacement (using manufacturer warranty, no verizon warranty)
2) Is there a way to get back to clean slate stock or even flash anything (TWRP, etc.) with only download mode available
I cannot function without my phone and I am very stressed right now somebody please help
EDIT: tried doing reset to stock KDZ method and it passed but when i reboot the phone i'm still stuck with only download mode, no recovery, and nothing past the LG logo. still the same....
turn on phone, see LG logo, immediately see download mode. now at least the LG logo doesn't hang but now it's the download mode,.

1) Probably not
2) Yes, using the method you've attempted already. Make sure you validate your download and follow all the steps carefully in the guide.

I've repeated carefully with multiple downloads, but I deduce I have the following problems.
1) Partition error with TWRP caused by FreeGee and probably deleting my /sdcard/ partition or something idk
2) My attempts at returning to stock have removed TWRP in place of download mode for some reason so I can't do recovery
3) Something is wrong with download mode because it's not being effective in the .tot or .kdz return to stock methods
4) I don't even know what's going on anymore I'll sleep on it and come back tomorrow
thanks for the quick response. I think I'll just see if i can pin this on the replacement guys and get a replacement.

I can't do a factory reset because I can't get into TWRP / the page that says hit power three times to do a factory reset now leads to download mode instead of teamwin splash

Then the flash tool didn't take. I've used it three times now and after the flash says its successful, you take the USB out of the phone and use the hardware keys to factory reset.
Instead of going to twrp as it usually does, it actually does the factory reset. If you don't do that then it bootloops till you do. The flash tool doesn't remove everything to make it factory stock.

I doesn't seem like you're pressing the right button combo to get into the Factory hard reset menu.
Do this:
1) Power the phone off completely (press and hold the power button until the phone shuts off).
2) Press and hold the power and volume down buttons at the same time.
3) When the LG logo comes up on the screen, let go of the power and volume down buttons, then press the power and volume down buttons at the same time again until the Factory hard reset menu comes on the screen.
4) Once in the Factory hard reset menu, press the power button twice to factory reset the phone.
If you already knew this, then I apologize.

Yeah, when I do that I get the download mode "firmware update" screen. previously it would lead to TWRP, but now it leads to firmware update screen.
ty
New update: I finally got 11A .tot to flash, but booting it was really unstable, kept rebooting / blank screen of death like every time I tried to get in. Finally became slightly more stable when I took the SIM card out, used WiFi to download 12B update using OTA. Installed OTA and now it's hanging at the "Updating software 2/2" page at 35% (the page with the beautiful picture of the lush green grass and the blue sky). I'm just going to leave it for a night plugged into the wall and see where it goes, maybe it's frozen, maybe it's not.
Probably it is. In which case I'll probably have to force reboot and I'll wake up to a host of new problems.
Here's what I did.
1) performed factory data wipe in TWRP
2) Installed all three .zip files, ROM, gapps, and lgapps, all said successful
3) dalvik/cache wipe
4) tried to boot.
When I try to boot my phone, I get the LG splash screen for a split second, then just a black screen. I cannot boot into recovery. I can get it into download mode by holding the power button, then waiting for the screen to go off, and holding volume up and plugging in the usb cable quickly before it goes to the lg splash screen. The problem is once I'm there, it goes to a "firmware update" screen which won't progress no matter how long I wait. My computer also won't correctly detect my phone. If in download mode, it won't detect it at all. If I just boot, it pulls up "local drive" E all the way to R and asks me to format each one. When I try to access E:, it tells me that the parameter is wrong. All the others simply ask to be formatted.
Please help. I probably shouldn't have messed with my phone in the first place. I thought I'd done it right, but I guess not

I might have the solution. You will need Ubuntu/ any other distribution that you want.
Try this, with these files.
Best of luck, hope you can fix this issue!

When you're in download mode, of course it won't progress because it's waiting for you to push an update.
You can use the lg flash tool to. Tot back to 11a from download mode.
However, I had a similar issue as yours and after asking more questions I was able to get back to recovery. The button sequence is tricky when you can't power your phone all the way off, but it can be done. Keep trying or just tot back from download mode.

Hello everyone, my me176cx I entered the password lock screen and now I do not remember anymore. how can I do a factory reset? I tried pressing volume + and power button, enters droidboot but there is the option factory reset, there is only the option recovery but recovery takes me to a page where there is the little robot with a red triangle and written "no command". how can I do? thank you
I have the same problem, the thing (K013) does not enter into reset mode, any help?
Use temporary twrp... ...now search (This way you can leave your data untouched - if you do a research)
2. Use magic comnination to show the recovery menu (search ahain) - this will wipe all you data including /sdcard/
I assume this is the correct forum to post this message because it says Asus TF701t Q&A Help and Troubleshooting but I think I bricked my Asus Transformer TF701t.
When I tried to reinstall the CDROMIX Custom ROM it did not work, it said it was finished in less then 5 seconds and when I rebooted it went back to the recovery fast boot mode that has the 3 Icons and says Fast Boot at the top of the screen and when I selected Android of course it did not boot so I rebooted and selected the RCK Icon and it booted into TWRP custom recovery mode is and then I accidentally selected an older TWRP and flashed it to that and when I tried to go back to what I thought was the newest version of TWRP I had it now will not boot into TWRP it just hangs after I select the RCK Icon and NO I DID NOT Ever select Wipe Data from the white Wipe Data ICON after putting it in Recovery Mode that you get by holding down the vol down or left side of the volume rocker, I always used the TWRP Wipe Data method.
How do I start over from scratch if I can't boot the tablet to put it in USB debugging mode or check whatever Asus recovery mode I have?
Similar issue
My TF701T started playing up today.
Basically It wouldn't go past the ASUS Splash screen. Just froze.
So I did the Power button Down volume thing. Tried RCK. It just hung.
So I powered down went back to the same menu and tried the middle icon (android). It just hung again.
Powered down, went to the three icons tried a Wipe data. It finished, rebooted and now it shows an android loading for 1 second and now displays a dead android. After about a minute it powers down.
I called ASUS help line, they cannot help me.
The only thing that gets a response from my tablet is holding power for 15+ seconds or Volume down + Power for 12 seconds.
Nothing else works. And the damn thing only had a one year warranty. Which ended Sept Last year.
Can something be done?

I fixed it, I was using either the wrong file or a corrupt ZIP file because I tried another zipped image and it installed ok and now my tablet is working but it's for the TF700t and says Asus TF700t in the About Tablet Tab but it seems to be working fine and must have been what I was using before so I guess everything is aal good now, I hope.
Now that I finally got the TF7000t and 701t thing all figured out and know that I have the tf700t how can I delete this posting so nobody will still think I need help with my Tablet? All I can do is edit it.
Good night!
I come to this great forum where I have solved several problems and clarified several doubts of mine in computer hardware besides assembling several PC's, to get a doubt with a smartphone (which is not so doubt!
I have a device, the HTC ONE M7 I bought in England a few years ago (IMEI still valid in 2018!). This week I had an unusual problem because I did not find something similar on the internet.
One day when I went to recharge it it was simply locked in a menu and could not enter the normal mode of use (I was without access to the internal options of the phone). I turned it off and after 3 minutes I turned it back on and it started normally and went to a screen asking for the ANDROID password. But with any password entered it always returned the alternative to make the RESET of the device. After confirming this RESET option he would go to a first menu with the options:
- reboot system now;
- apply from sd card;
- wipe data / factory reset;
- wipe cache partition;
- reboot to bootloader;
- power down;
- view recovery logs;
- apply from phone storage.
I tried all the options of this first menu and it ALWAYS returned to that same menu.
The second (and most obvious!) Option was to turn it off, press the POWER and VOLUME buttons and access a second factory menu, with the options:
- fast boot;
- recovery
- factory reset;
- yes lock;
- check smart sd;
- image crc;
- show barcode.
Almost all of the above alternatives returned me to this same second menu. But the FACTORY RESET option of this second menu led me to the first menu. And so do not exit these screens (the first and second menu options) even using the wipe data / factory reset option of the first menu after using the FACTORY RESET from the second menu!
Is it hardware/software problem? (the appliance did not get wet or fell)
Anyone have any suggestions?
Note: I already removed the battery for more than 1 hour, but the problem continued!

Flash new RUU and that's it. It's the easiest way out for this moment. You can read about it on the forum.

The first menu you are talking about is the "stock recovery" menu and the second one is the bootloader menu. The factory reset function is handled by the stock recovery hence why it will bring you back in stock recovery after selecting "factory reset" from the bootloader. What is not normal is your phone booting back in recovery after trying a factory reset. This might be caused by a corrupted or defective emmc.
You'll need to get fastboot on your computer so you can post your "fastboot getvar all" output and determine what RUU you could try to flash.
