I recently updated my Galaxy S6 to OF8 (G920TUVU2COF8), and still haven't rooted the phone. I was searching for a method to use, to root my phone; however I was unable to find one after spending about an hour. I am trying to find a root method for G920TUVU2COF8, and I don't care about tripping knox as I have already. I would also like to keep my finger print reader intact, that way it's usable to unlock the phone.
Thanks in advance for the help guys!
Flash a custom kernel with Odin. unikernel/unibase or aou's

Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase a Tab S 8.4. I was reading that some time ago it was possible to root without tripping Knox. If my new Tab S comes with an old firmware that is rootable while keeping Knox at 0x0, is it possible to upgrade to Lollipop while keeping root and Knox at 0x0? I'm getting this tablet for multitasking, so I want root to enable multi window for all apps, among other things. Thanks for any help!

The tab s has never been rooted without tripping Knox. Even if it's on and old firmware, towelroot is still patched. Either way your going to have to trip Knox in order to gain root.

Oops, looks like I was looking at a thread for the Pro 8.4, not the S 8.4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786800
My main concern was limited Multi Window functionality without root. But I've read about some apps that let you add to Multi Window without root. Anyone have experience with it?
Yes, I'm using the app you linked to. It depends on which app you would like to make multi window compatible. The bad thing is, that this app itself must be modified by MW-Pen App Enabler and you install a modified copy of that app after the modification process. It (by far) does not work with all apps, but with some (e.g. Skype) I had success.
Just have a question if I root my phone will I be unable to use Samsung pay even if I restore to stock firmware and unroot it? Is that's the case I think I will just live with it.

hi,
in sort yes, if you root you will trip Knox counter Yes, even if you flash back to stock Rom, your Knox counter will show. that's it's tripped (0x 1.. etc.) So you won't be able to use Samsung Pay.
All my devices Note 2,Note 3 , Note 4
Note 8.0 tablet is rooted Not the Note5, so far not interested. It's smooth enough, Themes in Theme Store i am happy with.
Battery is very good overall.
I get my "root " enjoyment " with all my other devices....!
Just my take on situation of root re Note5.
Good luck
Yes. Even if u ruu back to total stock and unroot your knox wil still be tripped and samsung pay will not work. This happened on my s6. After unroot and odin back it still was tripped. For this reason i choose to not root my note 5

Maybe there will be a way to reset the Knox counter in the future. I had used triangles away for my S4 in the past.
Recently I've acquired a Galaxy S6 (Not the Edge), and pretty much is "Out of The Box" New. I would like to root it, but after looking around the forms, internet, YouTube, etc. I've noticed that there really is no easy way of rooting this marvelous phone. I would prefer not to trip KNOX, but as far as I know, KNOX will pretty much be tripped.
Here's some info about my device:
Model: SM-G920T [T-Mobile]
Device/Product: zerofltetmo
Android Version: 5.1.1 [Out of the box]
Build ID: LMY47X
Baseband: G920TUVS3DOJC

Edit: I've tried PingPong Root, Framaroot, Kingroot, KingoRoot.

Download Odin. Download the S6 unikernel. Download TWRP recovery.
Open Odin on your computer. Boot your phone into download mode by holding power and Vol down buttons then press Vol up to enter download mode.
Plug usb end of cord into computer then plug phone in. Odin should recognize device. Flash the S6 unikernel first using the AP button in Odin (hopefully it rwads PASS). Let the device reboot.
Power off then boot into download mode again and do the same thing but flash the TWRP file this time (hopefully it reads PASS). Let device reboot.
You should now have both root access and custom recovery. From here you can download custom roms and flash their zip file through recovery mode.
I'm in a similar situation as the OP, only I haven't tried anything yet. The instructions posted by cwhiatt seem simple and I've rooted other Galaxy phones in the past. I usually don't mind tripping Knox, but in this case the phone is leased with insurance. I just want to be sure I will be able to revert back to full stock with Knox showing untouched. Is this possible?
I found this easy to follow guide using Google, but wanted to check here to make sure it will work:

Thanks in advance for any replies!

As I mentioned previously (either here or on another thread), I wasn't concerned with tripping knox so I did not attempt those root options.
I recently returned an S6 with a bum battery calibration through Tmo/Samsung Warranty exchange. The phone did have knox tripped. I simply removed the custom rom and restored it to out of box state and they accepted it no problem and replaced the device.
@msoza1 hey can u help me root my metro pcs s6 thanks
Couldn't find solution on XDA or any other place regarding the way to encrypt ROOTED Galaxy S6 running 5.1.1 or higher. Anybody can help with this? Would be really nice to have all perks that rooting give you with security level of the encrypted device.
I could only encrypt before I rooted. Couldn't do any backups except in flashfire because the data portion couldn't be read since it was encrypted.
If you flash a rom that required a data wipe...then all bets are off.

Any way to root 6.0.1 G920AUCS5DPJ1 yet? Did some research but could not find a way to root for this particular build. Any update?
I've been searching for an easier method to root my phone and I'm shocked at how few options there are to root my s6. I've always been able to come across more than enough information to root all the previous galaxy phones but for some reason there doesn't seem to be an easy method (like ping-pong root or something automated) I'd appreciate if anyone has any feedback on rooting the new build after the November security patch the build number is G925AUCS5DPK1

Feedback is, there is no root for the new builds.

And is there any way to go back to old builds flashing with ODIN an old stock firmware?
I confirm: once you get the phone on a newer version, you can't downgrade it. I tried to go from 6.0.1 to 5.1.1 flashing with ODIN. The ODIN process went well, but after the phone took the older load, it got stuck in the ANDROID screen
To get it back to life i had to flash again its original stock version at 6..0.1
So the question is if there will be any developement on S6 ATT 6.0.1 to get it rooted or TWRP. RIght now it seems we are stuck. No root, No custom rom I will keep my S4 that performs like a charm with root and custom roms!

Development has been essentially dead on the ATT version for many months.

Thanks @dandrumheller for the reply
I am debating myself to try something even i know is highly possible i break the phone. I really need a rooted phone and this s6 is a replacement for my s6 given to me by ATT. If i can't get it rooted, it will sit there forever. So probably i will take the risk to try to root/load anything experimental
