Hi there
Im a big comic fan and before buying i was Wondering if there is any app for reading comics and if so, is it a good experience?
Thanks in advance
Read comics in VR? Gaming and seeing movies I get it because the sense of emersion. But reading in VR? Only if it was 3D books or something. I don't think it's an experience worth the money for the headset
I think it could work if you save comic's pages as jpg pictures and use galery to view them.

Yes it's possible indeed in the way darekz mentioned, but i think the screen door effect and resolution will start bothering you pretty quickly because its all still images, when things move around you wont notice it that much because you focus on whats happening all around you.

totally agree. actually there's a cooking app you can download from oculus store, however, i found it is very dizzy when reading texts inside this vr glass. therefore, i only use it for watching movie purpose, and i can tell you that watching movie in oculus cinema experience is fabulous.

you can still see sub-pixels because of the magnification. it's still great nevertheless.

the subpixels make me pine for a note 5 with a 4k screen, but still impressed with how polished the presentation is, really a great experience. hands down worth the $200 just for movies if you have a note 4. better than my sony hmz-t3. now someone hurry and make it netflix, dish anywhere, play movies, amazon compatible... and limelight for video game streaming of course, then i will be super happy.

hmm, maybe "sub-pixels" is a poor choice of word... it's more like the spacing between the pixels i'm seeing. and i loaded up a 4k video and it looked odd. i'll need to try it again using the 'void theater' rather than the other ones since it's the "largest" screen.

2D movies don't need to be larger than 720p as that is the highest resolution you can see on the screen in the Oculus cinema. Everything higher just burns unnecessary battery life.
360 videos can be higher res tho.

I agree with you. Im not sure if Jaunt did this cold play one but if it's the same guys who did Hobbit VR, Black Mass Trailer etc, they really need to step up their game. The bitrate and the quality of the video is pure crap. I still can't get over it... Even the mongolian hut demo and the circus demo was 10 times better than these.

Just give us a youtube VR player or that supposed Milk VR player, and quit putting 100 megabyte demo videos out At least then its a slim app and we can just watch what we want without downloading the gigs on the phone storage.

Ok, todays, batch of apps are quite cool. I think the quality of the VR from Matterport is pretty stunning. I think the quality of their video is head and shoulders above what Jaunt does currently. Can't wait to see them cover more locations.

I watch HD videos in the Oculus Cinema and although i can see pixels the focus is pretty good. But then I watch a 360 video and the focus is absolutely awful. The NYC and Iceland flyovers are awful quality. Just watched a Venice 360 and I could not distinguish peoples facial features standing just 10 feet away.
I don't believe this is a GVR problem as still 360 pics are quite in focus. It seems to be something about how the 360 videos are shot. Hugely disappointing and at this point I don't even bother watching them.
Does anyone know where we can get some true FHD 360 videos?

I agree that the quality is kind of poor and it would've been nice to not deal with the blurry videos issue.
There is a site called www.airpano.com that I think has some good quality video. I couldn't download any of the videos directly from my phone and maybe you need a computer. Try it out and let us know if you are able to get any good video on the VR.
I find that 180 degree adult videos are great compared to the demo ones. There is a thread were we are talking about it.
I think the issue may be that with a 360 video it really is TMI (too much information) and thus the quality suffers. It makes sense then that 180 videos would be much better. And unless you are standing or in a swivel chair, 360 video is pretty useless. I think I'll start looking for 180 content instead.

Nah, 360 is nice to have. You can move your head around to inspect the location.
You bring up a good point before as of why the videos recorded with the phone /regular camera are far better. It took me a lil' bit to get used to the 360 video quality and now I am enjoying it.

LOL... Agree with you on that reason why I only downloaded some trailers to experiment. I would definitely like to have one full just for giggles and demo to friends.
Top question I get asked by random ppl is "can you watch porn?". For some reason girls have asked me more than guys (surprising to Me).

Yeah well porn pretty much makes up like 30% of all Internet traffic. Hey, people like sex, who knew? I think the whole VR thing brings it to another level (obviously). Closest lots of these fat slobs will ever get to the real thing (cheaper too). Just a matter of time before the uber hot chicks start making them.
Funny thing is I bought this mainly for the 360 videos hoping for an "immersive" experience. The pixels and focus issues kind of ruined that for me; however, I really am enjoying the immersion in some of these games, especially the space blaster ones. The black background of space reduces the binocular effect and seems like you're really there.
Everyone saw this nice addition yet? Was really nice specially the Rosie and the New Zeeland sports 360 videos.
However after playing 5 videos in a row I got a message that my gear vr needs to cool down for optimal performance. Is this a Exynos issue in the im360VR app? Or does it happen to SD as well?
Note:
When experiencing this one make sure you discovered the possibility to turn through your gear vr-touchpad.
Makes it a lot easier and less turning head while watching the Rosie vid to watch who is talking or jumping off that aeroplane facing backwards trying to turn your head 180 degrees.
This functionality is only available in im360VR and not in Oculus 360 videos to me, is there a way to turn your "start position" there other than reorienting? Would be nice... maybe with some game pad?

These videos are terribly out of focus and barely watchable.
I don't think they are that bad, some of them are not well put together 360 because you can see the edges where the pictures are merged, if that's what you mean with out of focus.
But still nice addition with new experiences.
Not too many decent "real world/person" 360 experiences expect for cirque de soleil and evolution of verse is also really well done though it's also has animation.
All the other animated and games are better in many ways with less obvious pixeling effect. But it's a nice idea visiting real places through the vr 360. And this does that.
And as said nice functionality with choosing which direction to face using the gear vr touchpad.

I'm surprised you're comparing Felix&Paul / VRSE content with this. This is just spherical video, while the other is 3D spherical video, which is infinitely more complex to achieve.
There is a ton of spherical video available (there's a whole topic of links here), but the immersion is completely inferior to actual, properly stitched 3D spherical.
PS: Which part of Evolution of Verse do you reckon is not animation?
Yes that is true didn't mean to compare them as in that they are equal in any way, just the type of content I was thinking of, closer to real world experiences than say temple run. And it doesn't apply to Ev.o.v. now that I think about it. I guess all of it is animation but the start shows a view as if it was real and done nicely, it's not a gaming environment or cartoon environment if you know what I mean, more real. But the rest with pattern & colors in the sky and the train and ending it is really pure animation and not even meant to look real.
There is a ton out there yes but when it is added in Oculus store it is usually some kind of quality check and better than the average video you'll find which I find this was also.

Unfortunately that quality check guy fell into a coma when they released half of the Milk VR content heh.
You really should check airpano, quite a bit of their stuff is superb, if not for the 2d bit. Then also Fassbender stuff, the new beach one is quite a relaxing experience.
Then also rest of Felix & Paul stuff (you only mentioned Zarkana), and if you're the experimental type, hack yourself some JauntVR videos (all of them are live-action spherical 3D, just not as good as F&P at stitching).
Thanks for great tips will check.
Anyone know if the overheat is more common/happens faster on exynos since to me it happened in this regular 360 videos as well as in games like herobound after a while. Hopefully it is better in Android L.

Sure, VRSE video takes the cake on mine. I started a habit of taking the back out - makes it a little bit cooler and also easier to remove the battery one it hangs like a depressed banana. Guess we should start installing fans.
PS: If you quote someone they get an notification so that they know someone has responded to them.
Im running mine in power saving mode and never get overheating message. It doesnt affect performance of watching 360 videos untill they are in 4k resolution. With power saving enabled and 4k 360 video being played there are frames skipped while moving head around.
On the other note. Is there a way do move videos downloaded in Im360vr to memory card and still play them while using them with im360vr app? Maybe easier way is to reencode them to mp4 format readable by "regular" 360 videos app? Seems like im360vr videos are over 1 gigabyte in size.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
Ok gonna try power saving, you enable CPU performance limit then, and nothing else?
Frames skipped is not optimal but until overheating is solved it'll do if it's only on 4k vids.
Yeah most of them are around or just over 1GB. Gonna try and see if it works moving them, could be that they need mod for it to work.
I'm also interested in vice versa, moving 360 to the im360VR folder to enable touchpad function but doubt it will work without mod/reencoding
Will check back when tried.
Sent from my SM-N910U using Tapatalk
Try this experiment. Place a normal video in the 360 folder and watch it. You will see that you can actually pan as in a 360 video but the image is quite out of focus and zoomed in despite being completely clear viewed in Oculus Cinema. Now place a normal 360 video in your My Videos folder. Perfectly clear although odd looking.
Perhaps the focus problems in 360 videos is due to zooming?

Same here.
The only thing that works for me is the streaming from the office. (The lights are on today)
Did anyone experience changes in the content of im360VR ?
3-4 days ago there has been a huge variety of different scenes, maybe about 10-15 different videos to download and now there is only a few.
I am not sure whether i screwed up my content library, due to deleting some of the content with the note 4 standard filemanager app and not inside the im360's app.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the im360VR app didn't help.
Looks like immersive media changed the content...

Hehe, yay.
Hello just wanted to know everyones experience with gear vr is it worth getting i used one and it seemed to blurry etc but in youtube videos its not like that anyway would like to hear from others how they are finding it
I use mine with a Note 5, and it is definitely not blurry. There is a slight "screen door effect" due to seeing all the pixels so close up, but that can fade into the background if you are not fanatical on looking for it. I play games, surf the web, watch video shorts, Netflix and Hulu on mine, and love the device. For $99 it was a great investment, until the Oculus 2 or Vive 2 come out in year or more. Get a bluetooth controller and play Gunjack, if you love to shoot things! I also have watched some of the VR events like the debates, a boxing match, or the Kentucky Derby, and it really makes you feel you are (almost) there.
****ing thrilled with mine, so many excellent freee apps and experiences. IMO gearVR should hold me over for a few years until VR market is more mature, then I'll upgrade to something better. VERY HAPPY AND AMAZED @ GEARVR!!!!

I got mine about a month ago and love it. It was mainly for watching 3D films at work, or Netflix. But I am now getting games and apps and haven't regretted any of it. End Space it awesome, and the kids are hooked on minecraft vr. Yes the pixels are noticeable if you actually look for them, but to be honest you only notice them while you wait for loading then forget about them when you get going.
I do recommend getting Milk VR app too, this plays your VR videos. Just use something like hola of you are outside US to get it.
