I'm really impressed with standby times

I found there might be some defective on software or sth else,
some batteries drain so fast, some are not.
for example, mine never last over 24hr even i turn off everything, use only 2G, with no app installed.
and it's instable, sometimes it drains so fast, sometimes not. I don't know why.
Until we get a software update probably will be great battery like the update for one x

Why is my android system using this much power? Anyone else have that broblem? My phone was recharged before I took the screenshot. Battery did run out on 12h with 3h 10min screen on.

Same here my android system is on top, even after deleting some stock apps and disabling fast demorcacy. I usually get screen time of around 3 hours 10 mins which is poor.

I think that is why many of us expect a huge battery improvement after updating to JB ,perhaps the newer system wont be so power hungry.
these screenshots are fun and all but they are totaly irrelevant.
hoe much USE time are people gettng is whats interesting.
so screen on time.
as the goal is no drain with screen off and as long as possible screen on time (this is when you use apps and so on).
my phone can be on for 2 days and still hve 95% juice left but thats kinda irrelevant if i dont touch it.
when i use it non stop my use time averages on 4 hours and 15 minutes so far.
all the people having problems with battery drain must have either bad apps installed of verry poor wifi/3g connections.
as in a good serup with no bad apps and good signal wifi should not drain battery at all if your not using it.
i would so like all people with issue to lend me there phones for 3 days to see if in my stable envourement they have the same issues.
im fairly sure that all these problems are signal and user related and that it has nothing to do with the hardware.
My phone would only give me 2 hours max if the mobile data is on with sync off facebook sync set to 1 hour and hotmail sync set to 1 hours. But if wifi is on throughout the day i would get around 3 hours 15 min average with sync on hotmail set to push and facebook sync set to 1 hour. The battery is really poor as i only use it generally for txting whatsapp and just a bit browsing thats all nothing else. When i watch videos my phone consumes less battery, than normal usage which i do everyday. The highest screen time i have ever got was 4 hours 15 mins thatd because i watched a video for almost like 3 hours thats why. But the battery is still really poor

My android system also consumes a lot of power, its always on top no matter what. I am running on V_10H I disabled some stock apps using titanium backup and used fast demorcacy but the only difference I could see was android wakeups had been much lower thats all and so less power consumption when phone on standby thats all.

this is totally relevant information for regular users.
many people complain about battery drain and that a custom rom is the cause or custom kernel when its available, but what shows that it is not, is when you can place your handheld mobile or tablet alone with wifi set to instant off and you got 3g disabled and it lives for days without loss of battery, you know that it is stable.
when you suddenly lose battery in hours and previous tests showed it was lasting days, you can be sure you got battery infected apps trying to activate your cpu all the time.
i'd like to buy this phone but i'm a bit afaid of the battery drain. people who says it last 2 days with normal use other says that with gaming and browsing lasts 10-15h but a lot says that the battery lasts just 6 h with normal use... can someone who owns this phone and he use it with a middle-intense use (texting, browsing, gaming some time) tell me how much lasts the battery please??

Well, my usage pattern is kinda light, but still...
- took it off the charger at 7:15 am
- 3g data permanently on while I'm not at home (from 7:20 til 18:00 or 19:00)
- wifi on when I'm at home (during the night too, I never switch the phone off)
- sync always on (gmail, whatsapp)
- received a couple short phone calls, let's say 5-6 mins
- received a bunch of emails, say about 15 or something
- some messaging (on whatsapp and gtalk, I don't use sms)
- some facebook, let's say 15 minutes (through mobile website 'cause FB app sucks big time, always had and most probably always will)
- some net browsing looking for a few stuff, let's say 5-10 minutes
- checked a couple forums on tapatalk a couple times
- updated 3 or 4 apps on wifi
- downloaded a 50mb game on wifi and played it for like 10-15 minutes
- ebook reading on moon+ for 1 hour and 30 minutes (maybe even longer, didn't check the exact time)
I connected it to the charger when it reached 12% battery at about midnight THE NEXT DAY (yes, that is around 41 hours without recharging it)
Overall, I can say I'm satisfied, at least for my standard usage...
- Stock v10h firmware, no root (yet).
- Nova launcher since 5 minutes after buying it
- I usually keep brightness quite low unless I'm out in the open under the sun, good thing about this phone's screen is that it's usually very well visible even with only a 20% brightness. If I need to use it in full sunlight, I conveniently placed a full brightness widget on my homescreen, and then back to 20% with one click when I'm done. No autobrightness 'cause I don't like much how it's set to work on this phone (was kinda better on my old i9000, but oh well, 1 click widget and I'm good to go, no sweat)
- Disabled 3 or 4 stock apps (through app settings, no titanium or other stuff)
I noticed that battery usage was kinda higher before disabling those stock apps, I guess one of them was a powermonster of sorts (I suspect the meteo one, but I'm not sure)
- No facebook notifications of course, not for battery-related reasons but just 'cause I simply hate them... but I guess that's nice on the battery too
As someone who has tried (and failed) to switch from iOS to Android in the past, I feel I should share this with other who maybe have the same problem.
I have tried some many android devices, HTC, Galaxy S, S2 then S3. Galaxy Note, you name it I've gave it a go.
Problem I always had was that it was too laggy or had too many things missing for me that I loved about iOS
I have once again taken the plunge with the Nexus 4.
I LOVE this phone. LOVE. It is everything a phone should be, to a point. It's the best android phone i've ever owned. I hate the look of touchwiz, never a massive fan of sense, the sheer beauty of the "people" app, should be enough to tell you that google has ARRIVED.
My only bug bears are the obvious lack of storage, which i'm actually doing suprisngly well with, like I have an N7 which I watch films / tv shows on, so the N4 is basically for music, along with spotify it's working like a dream (also have google play with 16,000 songs, which is working well, although download speeds are awful)
The other biggy, and this is the one is the battery life, I've tried franco kernel, cm10, stock kernel, etc etc. There's no two ways about it, with the screen turned on and using 3G it EATS the battery and that saddens me a lot. I'm lucky that I can charge it at work, but lordy lordy lord does it eat a lot. It's a shame, I'm hoping in the future they'll be a fix for this, I mean it's not a show stopper, but it's more annoying than anything else, seeing the battery go down as you use it for browsing and listening to music etc
Other than that, I think I've finally done it, I've finally broken the iOS spell and made the move. I'm delighted, the phone is lovely to look at, lovely to hold and use (and actually works unlike my f*cking iphone which dropped calls left right and centre)
I'm chuffed
Congrats man. It's pretty normal for a new phone to have horrible battery life at first, but then to get a big improvement with software updates.
Suprised that Franco's kernel isn't helping you though.

try faux kernel. undervolt by -100mv on all frequencies, lower your max frequency to 1134, and change governor to intellidemand. you should see better battery life then:thumbup:

faux kernel app is a paid app on the play store. i use trickster mod to change frequency/governor, and system tuner to change voltages. both are free from the play store. just remember to hit the"apply" button if you use trickster mod. also use one of faux's latest beta kernels. I think its up to 003b10

ahh thanks man, appreciate the help
I cant help but think though, that phone manufacturers should stop worrying about siz and weight and just stick a slightly better battery in. I mean a couple off mm and a few grams is hardly gonna put people off buying a phone.
I know for me the first thing i look at is "Battery Life" not size and weight.
I mean look at the iphone 5, it's too ****ing thin, make it the same size as 4s and stick a bigger battery in ffs
Definitely I know for myself that I'm happy with anything below 1.5cm which we know would give a lot more battery life, shame we are stuck with manufacturer's going for thinner phones and the only company to buck the trend is Motorola however their phones currently suck .
Battery life is improving for me I have narrowed it down to the radio, it seems mobile data destroys it much more than ant other phone I have used...WiFi performance is amazing and idle well I can say its the best. This was on the matr1x 4.0 kernel, not stock however.
Not sure why mobile data kills this device but WiFi efficiency is through the roof at least

Battery life is definitely a problem when using a phone with mobile data on. That's Google's mistake with android 4.2 and hopefully be fixed on 4.2.2.
Also congrats on moving to Android. I also moved from iPhone to android. To nexus s to be exact. The experience wasn't lag free but it did what I needed to and I loved the customization that android brought. Since then, been using android, but only nexus devices as I love pure android look

you realize that the iPhone's battery is about 1400 mAh right? the secret here is an efficient yet limited software.
that's not to say that the 2100 mAh is not big enough for an Android device. it should do just as good if not better than the S3, which has a similar sized battery. something certainly is not working as intended. some say a buggy radio, others speak of the 4.2 and hardware not optimized. whatever it is, i am hopeful that a software update will take care of it.
i generally agree with the OP, i don't see myself using skinned Android anymore. stock android>IOS>skinned android.
Vanilla android >jail broken iOS>90" TV's

open system tuner, press the voltage button, the first voltage (384) should be 900mv. press the -12.5mv a few times until that first one says 800mv, now they're all lowered by 100 you can go further if you want, some chips can handle -150 no problem. but in my experience 100 is pretty safe and enough to notice a difference in battery

Android is already better than iOS in terms of users anyway, I would like to just pick at the part of Jobs making the touchscreen...he didnt it was infact HTC that made the first capacitive touchscreen device, Apple just put together all the same hardware 5 years later and marketed the crap out of it which is great its typical apple and now we have an amazing market where Android exists and these high end smartphones are popular and back in the market .
That's apple all over though really isnt it
I mean archos brought out an Mp3 player with video about 3 years before apple did it on the ipod, apple then claimed they invented that, along with the wheel, dinosaurs, and the earth
If you guys are worried about the battery I highly recommend an external battery pack. I know they look sorta gimmicky like that stocking stuffer present you get and never use but there are some sleek looking ones that match the beauty of the nexus 4 and are easy to use. Its sorta like carrying another phone around in terms of weight/size.

The op said he has access to a charger so what is the problem? It is not like we are in the woods.
You are using a personal computer. If you sit down and listen to music and have the screen on how long do you expect it to last?
I also listen to podcasts bit I know of I do this I will not get an entire day.
When I use the phone normally I get great battery life. Just go into your apps in the panel and look under running. Use titanium backup to freezing what you don't need.
Good luck..

I went into applications manager and turned off all the extra stuff and bloat I dont use or need. Since we dont have root thats the best available option without uninstalling system apps you dont want. I also have ART turned on in General/Developer Options?Select runtime system. It makes the phone a bit more snappier and a bit more RAM effectiant friendly. Some say it doesnt do anything to battery life but since Ive had it on I do notice a small increase in battery life. I think it comes from the better RAM usage.

In addition, I like to install a battery monitoring app such as GSam Battery Monitor. It gives you a better per-app breakdown of battery usage. My poor battery life was all Android System so turning off built-in apps helped me there.

By disabling that i found a few apps that were using it that surprised me, while the phone was otherwise sleeping, reducing those apps significantly helped. Leaving location service disabled helped the most.

Is something keeping your phone awake?
What game is it? Have you compared a day without gaming or browsing to a day with it?
On the battery monitoring app advice, be careful. Stay away from ones that offer to control the phone. I've seen and read that those kind can make matters worse on the S5 and the one I tried made my battery got (weird, but true).

No power save. That gave me less battery. As far as it goes you need to see what apps are killing ur phone. Screen time on is key cause it means you are using ur phone. So you need to start with better battery stats and see what's going on.

Find out what app is waking yoour phone. That is what is most likely the problem . 99% of the time its an app or user error . Wakelock detector . Or cpu spy to see if your phone is deep sleeping or not .
Hope that helps cause I highly doubt your phone is deep sleeping with drain like that . You need to find what app is keeping it awake

Also see how much you are draining per hour while the device screen is off . If you are using it for 5 or 6 hours with the screen on then that isnt bad . With moderate use I charge my battery every other day.

I didn't have great battery life either.. But I see that Google play music runs in the backround constantly, I end up closing it like ten times a day.. I froze that app and it made a HUGE difference for me at least.. If you don't use it give it a try
