I have xposed framework installed, and using motoXposed. I want to unlink ringer and notification sounds, I know that Gravity Box can, that's maybe the only feature I would use from it.
As I'm still learning what works best, wondering if that's the best choice, or if anyone knows if there's another, maybe "lighter" mod for what I'm looking for I just don't want to mess it up, as I'm not very experienced with ADB, Fastboot and RSD (I know, I need to learn in case I have to restore to stock, etc)
Appreciate any help

Gravity box works perfectly for me, besides unlinking sounds , you also can expand sound controls, 30 volume steps also works fine

Thanks, was reading that in the description, which sounds good. Reading up on Fastboot and RSD Lite (in case of a bootloop, etc) realized the other day this is my first phone without a removable battery (luckily only had one brief bootloop in 3 years flashing on my Samsung) but fearing it with this device, as I'd be worried while I'm trying to figure things out and it's in a bootloop... as I would guess, or at least "looks" like it's bad for the phone

I believe if you use a root explorer you should see a flashable xposed framework Disabler zip file located on your sdcard. I haven't had one issue with xposed framework, just had to do a rsdlite flash yesterday due to a bad flash with a cm10.2 ROM , I couldn't restore my back ups as they failed and flashing any other ROM resulted in boot loops.
Xposed is safe and if you end up in a boot loop due to xposed just flash the Disabler zip

Thanks, xposed does sound pretty safe. I'm used to having custom roms, custom recovery on my old phone. I'm still learning with only being rooted, don't have safestrap, so no cwm, etc, presuming I can't flash a zip file with just root? Reading a lot, but still a learning curve for me.

The only issues with xposed tend to be with pwnmymoto root method, if your boot loader is unlocked and have a custom recovery, you should have no issues running xposed

Thanks, Pwnmymoto is the root method I have, don't have unlocked boot loader. Hopefully won't cause issues, hasn't so far with xposed framework and MotoXposed, and mainly just want to use the unlink volumes feature in Gravity box.

Is there a way I can root with 4.4? I have an unlocked bootloader but the SlapMyMoto method fails me everytime at the impactor 2222 step & even when I try to troubleshoot by using the small windows guide method provided by Jcase. I might be wrong entirely and there isn't yet a root for 4.4, if so let me know that way I don't sound too ignorant. :good:

Is there any possibility there's a way I can root it without a custom recovery though? I understand that it is the easiest way to root, but I'd like to try and keep it stock, that's been my main difficulty thus far.

Alright I'll get right on it then! Thanks x2 . Just as a side question since I've only had my Moto X for about a week and a half, will I still be able to continue to use touchless control and updates for it just as so long as I dont flash a custom rom? I want this puppy as stock as possible

As long as you run the stock ROM you'll have all the great features , if you use xposed framework and gravity box you'll have all the features that cyanogenmod has plus all moto's great features too, win win

From what I was following it appeared to be as though it was necessary, but I misinterpreted it. But, it's too late now for any changes, sadly and unfortunately.
get TWRP, xposed framework, with gravitybox and google search api. learn to use tasker and all of its major plugins, you will have a blast with the moto x. the possibilities are endless.
first, sorry if this has been asked b4, xda/google saeearch didn't find anything.
I need xposed, and I also need root. ( both, root for other things besides xposed.)
just got my moto g2, 4.4.4., and I wanted to know, should I root now, or wait till the 5.0 update and then root? or should I root now and install xposed and not update to 5.0 when it comes out? I read online that there probably will not be xposed fully working on lollipop.
advice anyone?
Root it now, you can aways install the update on your phone, rooted or not.

Only if you want to receive it by OTA, besides that, it doesn't matter if you are fully stock or not.
There are some known issues relocking bootloader and returning to stock at all. In most of all cases it works without problems but not in all. If you can´t get back to stock there still will be future options to get lollipop,by sideloading as a zip though recovery for example, ota is not the only way.
I am still on stock 4.4.4 and will wait for the ota, then relock bootloader and root. The Moto G is the first phone I didn´t root at once because it works really good and has farly not as much crapware as others, so I´m able to wait. But I don´t need xposed desperatly, I badly need Adway,Titanium and some others more.
It´s still not clear if xposed will work under lollipop.
So it´s your choice, it´s up to you. You can stay on Kitkat, root and install xposed. And you can update to lollipop later,when/if xposed is running.
Or you can stay stock, wait for ota and root later wich is my way.
Coming from 2 nexus devices, i can't imagine to have a phone without unlocked bootloader, root, custom rom and kernel, that's the point of android for me, customization
Thanks all for your responses! Much appreciated! Now all i have to do is find some way of rooting the thing, vroot failed- first time ever for me
To root Moto G 4.4.4 you have to unlock the bootloader, install custom recovery and flash superSU.zip.
Just follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/guide-root-moto-g-2nd-gen-2014-t2874245
But use the CWM-recovery from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/recovery-cwm-philz-touch-6-moto-g-2014-t2896586
or TWRP from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/recovery-twrp-2-8-0-1-moto-g-2014-t2896165

Well if you like to theme layers works naively on M. You just need root and a kernel that allows r/w. That's one good reason for it.

to access system files, to change or delete them. cant do it without root. to make sure that my n6 is the fastest n6 around. but thats just one if many reasons. no, you do not need root to flash roms or kernels. you do need root to use the apps to control them.

yes. you can flash a rom that has them included. you do not need root to flash a recovery, nor do you need root to flash roms/kernels.
Root is a necessity for since I need to block ads. So basically for Adaway.

Astro file manager can't seem to access my internal sdcard suddenly. Also life without Adaway is intolerable. Don't they realize we escaped to the internet to get away from overbearing ads?

I really had no clue that you didn't need Root to flash a Rom.. This is my first Nexus device. I have owned 5 android devices and always rooted to flash custom roms. You just blew my mind.

you do not need root, but you need an unlocked bootloader and to fastboot flash twrp recovery(so you can flash roms or kernels). the only thing that you would need root for is an app to control kernels. but if youre not into controlling kernels, then no root is needed
I didn't even root my phone on Lollipop. Made a few changes in recovery, and had custom recovery, but that was the extent of my changes.

Unfortunately, Xposed isn't out for Marshmallow yet.
I unencrypted and the only benefit I see to not having root is that you can do OTA's but since unencrypting and custom recovery took that away I might as well get root and enjoy viper4android, ad-block, custom kernels, play music exporter, no nag tethering (yes I pay for it, just hate when the checking subscription stalls cuz AT&T can't be bothered to fix it), etc.

App permissions management used to require root and is now stock on 6.0. That's the first thing that pops into my head....
Hello,
I have Samsung J1 mini DUOS , Serial number: SM-J105H, and do you advice to root it? Is it safe? what is pros and cos? Thanks in advanced.
Generally, it is safe. The best/safest way would be to install TWRP or other custom recovery, then use TWRP to install a SuperSU.zip file. I'm definitely a root user so I'm slightly biased... Here are some pros and cons:
Pros-Xposed framework, getting rid of apps you don't use, performance modifications, and customization.
Cons-warranty void, can no longer receive OTA updates, some monetary apps will no longer work (banking apps, samsung pay, etc.)
If i will root it will i get software update? it is Android 5.1.1. when i check software update it says that i have last version. as i know last version is marshmallow. how is possible to install that last one?
I screwerd up my phone badly the other day after flashing supersu through twrp...now my phone wont boot up and i only have stock recovery and bootlogger

Only if you do it manually via ODIN or custom ROM install with TWRP. Once you root it, it will not accept an OTA update. If they release an update and you wanna try it you would have to flash back to stock via Odin. Then it will take the update.

Yes, you will be able to remove unnecessary apps from the system partition. You can also take advantage of apps like Root Booster, that tweak your kernel configurations to give better performance or battery life.
Xposed framework is another great thing, allowing you to add custom ROM modifications to your stock system as well as control and customize your UI without manually modifying applications.
In my opinion, the open-source nature and endless customization is what makes Android OS better than IOS!
