Xperia Z3 compat won't stop vibrating
Hi all,
Similar to these two threads (1, 2) for other Xperia models, my Z3 compact won't stop vibrating, regardless of whether the phone is on or off. The only way to stop the vibration is by draining the battery.
So far I have tried:
turning off the device
shutting down the device with the off button(near the sim card)
factory reset
software repair using the PC companion
I saw indications online that this may be a hardware issue with the vibrating motor. I see two possible scenarios:
the motor is faulty
the motor is receiving a constant false positive (that wasn't cleared by any of the previous actions) that it should be on
Can anyone suggest a way to check whether this is a hardware issue and which of the hypotheses is correct?
Thanks
I have the same issue. Just started happening today. I'd say it's hardware but I'm trying the options you mentioned. Running the battery down at the moment.
I got this problem with 3 months of use,i send my phone back to sony and get a new phone under warranty
The solution - water got into the phone
I finally broke down and brought my (unwarranted) phone in to the Sony lab. They had a look to see what caused the problem and found that water seeped in to my allegedly water proof phone by checking the damp sticker.
On the one hand, I was probably foolish to actually test the phone's claim to being water-proof on a phone without a warranty.
On the other hand, I didn't go scuba diving - only brought the phone into the pool.
My personal assumption is that the problem was with the chlorinated water in the pool, as I dunked the phone in a few rivers during field trips and nothing happened. That being said, the advice that I got from the local Sony rep was to treat the phone as though it was not water proof and enjoy the proofing only if necessary. Bummer, but so be it
Edit:
Now I see that according to Sony's site: "After exposure to non-fresh water, such as chlorinated water from a swimming pool, always rinse your device off using fresh water"

I tried to get my X1 repaired after finding some problems with antireflex coating of camera lenses. Problem is, that TMobile returned my phone without any repairs telling me that they found oxidation on the phone board next to USB connector. And they rejected any repairs under guarantee because of it. Its supposed to happen when you expose phone to moisture, like calling in rain or using phone when temperature is bellow freezing point.
I dont want to hide that I call in rain sometimes (who doesnt), but i cover phone with my hand so no water goes directly on it and of course i call in winter. It seemed to me that they wanted just to avoid guarantee repair, which is kinda disappointing...
Is there a question?
More like I'm looking for others with similar problem to find if there is some way how to force RMA service or if it is lost case...
I recently submitted my X1 for warranty repair and it was mailed back unrepaired.
I suppose a few beads of sweat made it into the casing and caused a little corrosion around the microphone.
This voided the warranty.
Feelings I had nothing to lose I carefully disassembled the phone and cleaned the corroded parts with contact cleaner.
Upon reassembling the phone turned on and operated as norm.
Except now it's constantly saying "No service" I can't connect to Tmobile but I can connect to wifi.
Any suggestions?
just a thought: did you already check/rerun your connection setup?
Yeah I sure did,
When i reinsert the sim the auto connect feature kicks in
It pulls up Tmobile, I select it and it configured
But the antenna stay reds/exclamation point.
I try to search for a network and it just says no service
Does this mean the hardware is working because it see's it initially?
I took it apart again tonight cleaned up a little more corrosion...Sigh to no avail as far as the mic
But all the connections around the antenna appear to be good
Bad news!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the same thing happened to me, and apparently, it's irreversible.
The phone has two antenna modules; one on the top around the camera lens and sensor, which is responsible for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS signals, and another on the bottom that is responsible for cellular voice and data signals. This explains why your Wi-Fi is working; because it relies on a different antenna and a different transceiver (transmitter/receiver) chip.
As for why you are not getting any service, there can only be one explanation: your Power Amplifier (PA) chip is toast. That chip is responsible for drawing power from the battery to boast the cellular signal enough to penetrate walls and such, thus sustaining a connection. Try your phone outdoors, if it's working, then you only blew up your PA. If not, then maybe you blew up your cellular transceiver altogether in the process of disassembling and reassembling the phone.
The only way to verify this will be sending your phone again to the service centre. They connect a test kit to your main board to check the on board chips. That's what happened to me, I disassembled the phone to clean around the microphone too as many people were complaining about static noise on the line when I call them. My phone is currently at the service centre awaiting a final decision by Sony Ericsson either to give me a free main board, a free X1, a free X2 or refund 75% of the retail price I paid, as they ruled out that the PA chip failure is caused by bad grounding and isolation, which the disassembly process (even if done carefully) can sort of exploit.
Sorry mate!
why would they give you free anything?
You opened up the device which voids the warranty

I don't think he told them that...
Sony Ericsson's Incompetency and HTC's Bad Q.C.
I didn't tell them I disassembled the phone. I think almost X1 owner out there have had it with Sony Ericsson and HTC for bringing such a poorly built device to the market and charging premium for it. We will all be in denial if we keep saying that the X1 is the best phone ever. We wanted it to be, but it's just not. Problems existed from day 1: buggy software on release, battery cover finish, slider cable, battery red light, keyboard, weak signal, headphone jack, cracks, LED module, Vibration motor, etc... The list is endless really. I paid U.S. $800 for my X1, spent another U.S. $100 on cases and screen protectors, treated the phone better than I treat my Oakley’s, and it still didn't last more than one year. For the love of God, I had never even put it down on any surface what so ever, except for my car seat, without placing a Microfiber cloth or something below it. The stress owning this phone had caused is equal or even greater than the joy using it had brought. I absolutely loved the panels and the things I used to do with it, I even bought the Sony Ericsson Aspen recently, regardless of the Windows Phone 7 launch, but still it was just too damn stressful to take care of it. Cleaning the dust between the body and the keyboard daily so as not to scratch the finish on the keys of the slide out keyboard, being extremely careful when sliding it in and out, how slowly you have to push headphones in and pull them out of that insanely tight socket, all that have made me extremely angry at Sony Ericsson.
There is another thread in the Q&A section started by a user who has the same problem, only that time it happened AT Sony Ericsson's service centre BY a Sony Ericsson's repairman. Why would a Power Amplifier chip fail with no electricity connected to it upon disassembling/reassembling the phone if it weren't properly protected against Mechanical Stress? Mechanical Stress that even a Sony Ericsson technician couldn't discover?! If I have to trick them to get what I paid for, or get part of my money back, I will. They sure tricked us all to buy that piece of... incompetent engineering I would say in the least.
One more thing...
In Egypt, the warranty period is only one year long. Mine ended in June 2010, so I was already without warranty when I disassembled the phone. The fact that they couldn't discover that it was disassembled further seduced me to play the Angry Costumer role, and so far it is working. Worst case scenario, I will just take it back and use it as a Wi-Fi based portable Internet device around the house, and an In-Car Media & Navigation device on the move.
Hi all . Wishing you all a happy holi.
Well as the thread says and since its holi (no explanation required) my phone seems to have shutdown after my friends and I were playing with a water pipe and I (for kicks) hosed my Xperia Z full of water.
After reading a few threads I came to understand that there are damage strip indicators on all panel flaps.
The micro SD flip is still white but the charger/usb cable and headphone jack flaps have turned pink,
The phone also crashed sometime after I hosed it with water and is not powering up.
So what should I do now?
Currently I'm on the advice of 3 friends using the rice method. I have opened all flaps of the phone and submerged it in a bowl of rice so that it dries out all the moisture. I intend to keep it the whole night and try powering it up in the morning.
Options:
1. Try the rice method and hope it works (yay)
2. After failing point 1, keep it in the sun/blower/hair dryer method and try again to power it up,
3. Take it to the Sony Service Center in Lajpat Nagar (I'm from New Delhi) and give it for repair.
P.S - My phone is rooted and running cyanogenmod. Will they charge me extra If I happen to give it for repair when they find out I'm running a custom mod.
I'm asking because Sony does weird things. When I bought the phone last year I dropped it on the ground and scratched a corner. Not too much but the phone was only 3 months old and I felt bad about it so I thought I get the body changed for a small fee.
Turns out Sony does not replace the phone body instead the executive simply told me to pay 50% of the price and I could get a whole new phone since the Xperia's body cannot be changed.
Kindly help!
Thank You
same here though my power button is ****ed up right now.... i have it dipped in rice and would let it be there for 2-3 days...
P.S even my headphone jack and usb are pink now.... i never had it removed from my pocket but had a lot of water splashes...
THIS THREAD SHOULD BE CLOSED. PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED.
My gratitude to the people who were kind enough to reply to my private messages.
Point no. 1 worked.
I covered the phone in rice in a plastic bowl and left it for a whole day in my car where it got heated.
After that I tried powering it on. Seeing as I had already pretty much destroyed the phone I decided to give it one last shot on charging the phone which I hadn't done in case it short circuits and voila! The red light turns on and my phone is charging.
No problems detected.
Network/3G is working. Tried whatsapp, sms and used the camera and music player. Speakers are fine too. Same goes for the screen. Seems no damage done to the phone at all. Will need to change the screen guard though. Its become moist. I'll use the phone and reply on how the battery has been performing.
I'm sold. This is a SOLID PHONE. And I was worried that I'd have to shell out 15-20k because the damage indicators on the 2 flaps had turned pink.
Yup same here.... Although as I had water in my back camera.... It's left dust on my camera lens

hello man i couldn't understand your message anyway i got my phone fixed , the only problem i had was with the fog on the cameras which gone after 2 days by it self and also i used the bag which has small balls in it which take the humidity away
Yesterday I tried to take some pictures under water in the pool. (I always check the pressure test before dip the phone). On the evening I noticed the touchscreen wasn't working properly.

Water indicators are ok and it doesn't seem water has infiltrated in the phone. I thought it could be a software bug and I resetted the OS but it didn't work. What did it happen?
P.S. Phone is already in the rice
I would instantly send it back to sony if FW update did not solve it and get it replaced. Seems like water got it somehow still.
Hello everyone,
Since a few weeks I have several issues with my Pixel 5, mostly sensors issues (compass, gyroscope, proximity, etc.) but also some weird system software behaviors.
It began mid November when I woke up and realized my phone restarted on its own during the night.
Since then I have these issues :
- Compass not working
- Proximity sensor not working
- Gyroscope working only for a few seconds at start, and then completely stop.
- Phone freezes almost every time I unlock it. It freezes for like 3 to 5 seconds, the colors of the screen are dimmed, and then it finally unlocks.
- When the phone is playing audio content (songs, ring, alarms, etc.) the sound cuts out every 10 seconds (exactly) for like one second and then come back.
- In random moments, the phone will display an error "Process is not responding".
- The small proximity sensor LED is always blinking if I enable "Always on Display" feature.
- Finally, I can't install any Google Play System updates. I perform the installation, reboot the device, but a few minutes after this restart the phone will restart on its own and the Google Play System update will not be not applied (I can perform it again, and again, and again, etc.)
I tried several things : safe mode, factory reset, but I also reinstalled the whole Android 13 image with adb and fastboot. The issues still continue.
I sent the phone to be repaired by Google but they were "unable to reproduce these issues".
They also told me the phone has been damaged by water, which seems weird because the phone didn't had any incident with water that I can remember. I think I had one time the message "Liquid or debris in USB port" about six months ago, I don't understand why the problems would suddenly appear now.
They sent it back without any repair.
I don't know what to try anymore, I was convinced it was only a software issue (and that all the issues were related) but even reinstalling the whole android image didn't solve it. So is it a hardware issue after all ?
Any recommendation on how to process with these issues would be much appreciated. Or maybe I need to give up and buy a new phone ?
Thank you.
It's either water damaged or it's not. Google saw the moisture sensitive indicator(s) showed water exposure. So somehow this happened. If it's been exposed to water the first thing to do is disconnect the battery and allow it to dry out completely then see what you got.
At this late stage the damage may be permanent.
If it was salt water it's already dead. Sweat is salt water... keep 'em in a good case and keep it clean.

Thank you for your response.
But what I don't understand is why the issues would suddenly appear months after its contact with water, which was only rain by the way.
I am 100% sure it did not had any water incident at the time the issues appeared.
Water damage is insidious which is why manufacturers won't warranty it. Damage can be delayed sometimes taking weeks or months to become apparent.
buying used P5 now due to water damage :-(
Almost went for P7, great device, but I think I'll be fine until the P8 and hopeful Google will have a good trade in value like this year.
$200 for mint P5
$540 + shipping taces etc I believe if you have one od those.
but I think I'll save the $300 for now.. If i had the cash I'd go P7, but P5 is a wonderful device,
