So many kernels..so many governors. Where can I find the defining characteristics of each governor. What they do and don't, etc?
Thanks.

In real life won't see a lot of performance boost. May even see performance degrade. A good thing to play with and learn so don't waste time on it later. LMAO

In previous ROMs for other devices I had good experience with smoothass/brazillianwax and savagedzen but ever since I tried MinMax it's the best one for me.
What do you guys think?
(I/O Sched is Simple by far, there's no chance to others like V(R) or BFQ)
ondemand...
Stock user have to use

The "governor" is that piece of software that switches the CPU of you phone between the different speeds and voltages, thus it is responsible to some performance issues and the power consumption of the battery.
Or in other words:
The "wrong" governor results in poor battery duration, while another "wrong" governor may result in great battery duration but poor performance. The "best" governor is the one that switches the CPU to exactly that speed that is really needed so the system can run with full performance and best battery duration.
As user of the stock ROM you do not have the choice as the kernel supports exactly one specific governor (named ondemand). If you want to try the differnt governors try the Nova ROM of Noejn: this great ROM allows you to switch between several different governors.

I only tried MinMax and ondemand. To make it short: ondemand sucks, MinMax works great for me.

Ondemand make lags.. But damn Stock kernel only supports craps..
Hi guys, the Devil Kernel has a governor called Powersave does that really help extend battery life?

Yea, it will, but it may be laggy and slow from time to time.

This explains why my SGS is slow as hell on Powersave...which governor would you recommend?
thanks for the help!:victory:

OnDemand, Conservative or SmartassV2 are a good compromise regarding speed and battery. Your battery will discharge a bit faster ofc but your phone will be smoother as well. Use CoolTool for live statistics of the CPU frequency.
Just play around a bit with the settings and use the link I posted above for help. If you want to know anything, feel free to ask me
There are several other settings on kernel side which affect speed and battery life.

Thank you so much!!! I'm gonna be honest and say I am a n00b and I won't really understand the statistics...or change the frequency manually...
Can I run SetCPU with all the kernels or just use the Kernel's governors (like Devil's let you choose a governor).
P.S - Tried the SmartassV2 looks okay to me a bit laggy though...

Yeah, SetCPU can be run with any kernel. You can download the devil kernel app on Google Play to set everything, so SetCPU is redundant.
Statistics are quite obvious - the phone should hit min. frequency as soon as possible on the one hand and it shouldn't lagg on the other hand Lazy governor is good as well.
Btw: You are here to learn something so it's absolutely okay if you ask questions. That "noob-excuse" is kinda lame cuz you read and study the stuff by asking others /reading topics Everyone has to learn to succeed.
Anyways, ask me if you got questions

It slows down a bit your phone but battery does improve.
I had my xperia T for two weeks now and there is a major problem with my device its the batter I have major battery drain with my xperia T plz help me fix these problem and I haven't rooted it or unlocked.

i had you same issue... just root your XT and change to ondemand governor
no overheat, no thermal throttle, smoother, much more battery life..
I thought ondemand was a stock governor.
Correct me if wrong.

No, on demand is available from stock. There are a few governors actually.
Msm-dscv, on demand, userspace, powersave and performance.
Also a few I/O schedulers. Namely: noop, deadline and cfq.
Changing to on demand ready made the device smoother imo.

Thermal throttling is there, but less noticeable.

I meant to type stock, not custom...d'oh...but that means there is no need to root to enable it.
The post i quoted said to root then enable on demand. If it is stock governoer there is no need to root.
Hey guys wondering if anyone has their htc one m7 undervolted at the moment and what voltage they are running at. Also what does everyone here recommend for governors and schedules for similar to stock performance with best possible battery life. Thanks!

look in the kernel threads for this information
Thank you, I already went through a couple forums for kernels compatible to aosp lollipop but as the forums were newer I could not find much in terms of settings. Are their any forums you particularly recommend?

Its not because someone is having good results at X volts that you will have the same. Every chip is slightly different and you should try yourself by reducing in small increments untils the phone is not stable. Then you know the minimum voltage your chip can deal with. Add a safety margin to that and you're pretty much done.

If you want it similar to stock then Id suggest to use the interactive gov.

Alright thanks for the info. I have been undervolting cpu chips since intel released sandy bridge so Im well aware of the silicone lottery and how to adjust voltages, however im just looking for a relative range of what to expect. Also how do you go about stress testing on a phone Ive downloaded a couple apps but Im questioning their reliability. In regards to the interactive gov, for some reason whenever I select this gov my phone freezes and reboots. It may be an issue with the kernel but no other people have reported it, all other governors seem to work fine, so therefore for the time being I cant use them governor. I have been using the "badass" governor for a couple days but found it a little laggy so im trying "smartassv2" atm.
I tested all of the avaliable kernels on 4 XL.
Used ondemand cpu governor,simple_ondemand gpu governor and fiops i/o scheduler with fsync disabled(note that some kernels like franken didnt support governor changing, settings didn't apply on boot for some reason so I done the test with schedutil cpu governor also). Best overall for speed and battery life is elementalx. Works awesome on any ROM. With others I had issues with small lags here and there but with ex kernel NEVER and I mean it.
Also Naptime app AKA agressive doze is total crap as I actually had better standby battery life without it.
Use AOSIP ROM with Ex kernel(block wakelocks also) for best balance between performance and battery life.
Hope this article will help someone.

Same here, that's why i currently use stock. I agree with ex, it's probably the best one after stock one (No micro lags)

No for the ones I'm using(whatsapp,gmail,instagram,twitter....) if you block the wakelocks I sent in screenshot. If you block advanced ones then there can be problems maybe but I didn't test that as standby time and deep sleep are great.

ex kernel works even better with aosip. But you can use it on stock also. I noticed that on aosip I get some extra battery juice and little bit faster performance if that matters to you. Battery life is more important for me.
