I tested all of the avaliable kernels on 4 XL.
Used ondemand cpu governor,simple_ondemand gpu governor and fiops i/o scheduler with fsync disabled(note that some kernels like franken didnt support governor changing, settings didn't apply on boot for some reason so I done the test with schedutil cpu governor also). Best overall for speed and battery life is elementalx. Works awesome on any ROM. With others I had issues with small lags here and there but with ex kernel NEVER and I mean it.
Also Naptime app AKA agressive doze is total crap as I actually had better standby battery life without it.
Use AOSIP ROM with Ex kernel(block wakelocks also) for best balance between performance and battery life.
Hope this article will help someone.

Same here, that's why i currently use stock. I agree with ex, it's probably the best one after stock one (No micro lags)

No for the ones I'm using(whatsapp,gmail,instagram,twitter....) if you block the wakelocks I sent in screenshot. If you block advanced ones then there can be problems maybe but I didn't test that as standby time and deep sleep are great.

ex kernel works even better with aosip. But you can use it on stock also. I noticed that on aosip I get some extra battery juice and little bit faster performance if that matters to you. Battery life is more important for me.

Hey all,
i am searching for something special, which none of the well known kernel designers could offer. I myself cant create kernels
Here is what i am looking for:
Device: Nexus FroYo with root
Kernel features:
OC: 1.13 GHZ
UV: 800mV
Audiohack
Ramboost
Is there anyone that could create a working Kernel with the given features?
Thx a lot
Tigger
The closest one you'll find with everything you need is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653598
It doesn't have OC but it's not necessary anyways. It has everything else you want.

i know, but its exactly what i need. OC AND UV...thats why my request. but thanks for ur help,
im using intersectravens atm bfs .34 now...but it doesnt have OC
Froyo = pimpin'
With Froyo, you dont need OC... I thought I NEEDED it... but with SetCPU on active you'll see that the phone really only needs to run around the 245Mhz mark on the home screen and it'll rarely use all 998Mhz that it has...

I'd say it's a want, no so much a need, but I digress.
Wait for Ivan to update his kernel. He's been MIA though. Maybe he's dealing with real life. Look for his kernels a couple pages back and PM him. Or maybe send an email.

I agree with not really needing OC on froyo but I guess its nice to have the option so here yah go
http://www.mediafire.com/?tzxwm0mjweo
Flash through the recovery menu or push to the phone just like you do with Raven's kernels but make sure you do a nandroid backup just in case something happens.
You didn't specify if you wanted BFS or CFS so I used CFS in this because personally I think CFS runs better overall on froyo.
(Although BFS really makes the launcher super silky smooth, it really chugs when I try to load Flash content in the browser but maybe this is happening to me only, I don't know )

I compiled it using the code that Raven publicly provides on his Github (latest as of 5/27/2010) and i added the overclocking code that you requested.
http://github.com/intersectRaven/ir-kernel-2.6.34/commits/master/
So it has everything that Raven's kernel has like the audio boost, 21MB ram, optimization flags, etc.
I decided to give this a try. Running great so far. Not sure if it's just a placebo effect, but it definitely feels snappier with that added .1 ghz.

Nice, glad to hear it working out well so far for someone. Yah, after testing this out for a day I notice the same thing, a little more responsive, linpack has increased from 36ish to around 40 and flash heavy sites load quicker.
I'll probably use this kernel in my phone now for everyday use but use SetCPU to keep it at 998MHz until I need that little extra boost.
(Reason being because in order to run at 1113MHz the AVS has to boost the voltage up even higher then usual to keep it stable.)
Hm. Didn't know that, the voltage. Thanks.

Ummm... didn't we test this out in some huge blind test of kernels and conclude that 950 gets better battery life than 800?

I guess there are those few who see better battery life when using 800 .
Personally I use 950 because 800 makes my radio erratically switch between 2G and 3G in my workplace which in turn causes a big drain on my battery. This doesn't occur when I'm home though, probably because I'm so close to a cell tower.

And to thos with the 950>800 opinion, i thought this at well, but, i testet so much kernels now, with my usage parameters and it worked better with an 800mV
Wildmonky, any chance you could also make an BFS Version?
I think you should give both kernels then to raven to add em to his repo! They are GREAT!
I was so much looking for this kernel!!!

Here yah go. Still no changes from Raven for kernel version 34 so its still dated 05/27/2010 to match.

Raven really hates overclocking so this will never be in his repo. But what I might end up doing is compile and upload to mediafire when a new update is out, if there is enough interest in this.

OnDemand, Conservative or SmartassV2 are a good compromise regarding speed and battery. Your battery will discharge a bit faster ofc but your phone will be smoother as well. Use CoolTool for live statistics of the CPU frequency.
Just play around a bit with the settings and use the link I posted above for help. If you want to know anything, feel free to ask me
There are several other settings on kernel side which affect speed and battery life.

Thank you so much!!! I'm gonna be honest and say I am a n00b and I won't really understand the statistics...or change the frequency manually...
Can I run SetCPU with all the kernels or just use the Kernel's governors (like Devil's let you choose a governor).
P.S - Tried the SmartassV2 looks okay to me a bit laggy though...

Yeah, SetCPU can be run with any kernel. You can download the devil kernel app on Google Play to set everything, so SetCPU is redundant.
Statistics are quite obvious - the phone should hit min. frequency as soon as possible on the one hand and it shouldn't lagg on the other hand Lazy governor is good as well.
Btw: You are here to learn something so it's absolutely okay if you ask questions. That "noob-excuse" is kinda lame cuz you read and study the stuff by asking others /reading topics Everyone has to learn to succeed.
Anyways, ask me if you got questions

I would suggest you CM11 based ROM, for example Dirty Unicorns. I'm using it and I feel its gaming performance is good.
Governor and I/O scheduler I would suggest pegasus/ondemand with sio. You can also use performance as governor but keep in mind that it will always clock at max cpu frequency. Remember to change to other governor after exit the game if you don't want to have excessive battery drain.
I will try, thanks.
What do you think about sioplus ?

Hi everybody, some days ago I built DirtyUnicorns from source ... A very nice rom with lots of features ... In Build 1 there is no sound during a call, only during calls ... so I decided to update this build with the latest Source from Dirty Unicorns ... The same result, sound is working fine during playing music or things like this, but during a phone call I couldn't hear any sound.
I hope anybody can help me I took already a look onto the lib/modules, everything looks good.

pegasusq in my opinion is the better governor to use, largely because it can tell if is more than one core and respond accordingly. Pair that with CPU Sleeper Dual Core and you're golden as far as power saving awareness. SIO I hear is the best i/o scheduler to use for power consumption, deadline in my opinion is the best for pure performance however be careful because If you do overload and a process misses a deadline it will hiccup or even freeze.

R18 has the best battery life for me, I dunno why :\ Trying the new test version so gonna see what it's like.
But a suggestion....
If you looking for a smooth fast and balanced profile...
Nothing beats semaphore...
Ondemand + Noop...easily 4 hour sot...
with killer performance
helps me love my rom more

3-4h sot, heavy usage
