Hi all...
I have an Amazon Kindle Fire 7" I think, its 3rd Gen (2013) SOHO running FireOS 11.4.5.2.
Rooted using FireRooter & Fastboot Cable...
I need help with the wall papers... In FireOS 11.3.2.5, I was able to browse the FRAMEWORK-RES.APK using 7zip, to the RES > RAW-HDPI and change every single one of the images inside to what I wanted. Worked Great!!! Except with 11.3.2.5 after initial boot up, and showing the modified Wallpapers, if I let the display sleep again, I would be presented with the constant Amazon AD Picture that says "Make sure your Kindle is registered, blah blah blah...." ................ Well it is.... Even without the Wallpapers changed, it still does this.
With FireOS 11.4.5.2, the Wallpapers do NOT exist in the RES > RAW-HDPI ... RAW-HDPI isn't there either. So, in my line of thinking, would placing these images from the 11.3.2.5 FireOS into the 11.4.5.2 FireOS Framework-res.apk, would I get to see the modified Wallpapers?
If not, where on earth did they move the wallpapers to? They MUST be Somewhere in there... Which APK? I have no clue. I can still change the BootUp Logo to whatever I want in 11.4.5.2... I can even change the home screen background to whatever image I want. But I would REALLY like to get back custom wallpapers if I can simply find out where they are stored now.
So...
Question 1) Where is the wallpapers stored in FireOS 11.4.5.2?
Question 2) Even with XPosed Modules enabled to block system\amazon updates, it STILL wants to download FireOS 11.4.5.4 ... How do I stop it from doing that?
Question 3) If I have to revert back to FireOS 11.3.2.5, how do I stop it from displaying that stupid annoying "Make Sure your Kindle is registered, blah blah" and show the modified Wall Papers after waking up the screen?
Thanks All!

Hi Folks
Before we start , A bit of background as I've been reading these forums and I am aware how some may find this a contenious subject, So before anyone goes accusing me of any illegality let me say I have a Kindle Fire 2 and Kindle Fire HD, both in demomode as they were acquired from the Comet UK Firesale after the company went bankrupt late last , Unfortunately I don't think the staff where that dedicated to customer service at that point.
Right Down to business - So in the doing the research the obviously the Factory Cable Method and that's about it isn't it? I thought I have a little play around as my solder skills aren't the great.
The Firmware on the Device is 10.0.2.A I'd expect this to work on earlier firmware, Later ones however I'm not so sure, The Aforementioned Fire HD which I also have has had the Final Part of the process I'm going to describe fixed.
What You Need: Your Fingers and A Wifi network you can connect to!
1. Boot The Fire, Touch To Try The Fire and Run.
2. With the device in Potrait, Press in the search box , three options should appear below the search box ( Libraries , Stores and Web )
3. Press Web. I was the informed I had no network connection, and very nicely asked "If I wished to sign in?"
4. Press the Wireless Settings button which should take you to the wireless network settings. where you can configure a network
5. Download an apk file, any apk file will do , google code have lot, and I've heard this other site, I think it begins with an X They also have a couple
6. Pull the Nofication Bar Down, You should have a notification that the download is complete, Click to install
7. You'll Should Get a notification about non amazon prime apps not being allowed along with the option to change that setting,
8. Press the Settings button to take you into the Device menu. From there you can get into developer option and turn USB Debugging On!
9. An For the Icing on the cake , you can restart adb as root from your PC. as demo seems to have an insecure boot image. lol so you don't even need any root explioits.
Not much else to say other than "All you are demo modes belong to us", I'm glad I didn't go with plan A to update the firmware.
Note: Don't worry If it restart demo mode in the middle as your wifi connection settings are perisisted
Also Keep Unknown Application Sources off and you'll be able to run this process as many times as you like.
I'll post pictures etc later on as I've not removed demo yet. I've not remove demo mode yet.
Like I say this could be very specific to just this version the firmware

Hi there!
I have a simple question: How can I rename my kindle(the "My Kindle" in the upper left side of the screen)?
The problem is that my kindle is blacklisted and cannot be registered with a amazon account. That is not a problem for me, because I do not wish to buy any amazon content.
P.S.: I have a rooted KFHD and a fair experience with android&linux
So more than 50 views and no answer...this must be a tough one
Try reading here.

i've already looked into build.prop but it was a no go. the link you provided is good but, like I said in the original post, my kindle is blacklisted and cannot be registered to my amazon account. thanks for the tip anyway. got others?
Sorry.. I'm not familiar with the circumstances of a blacklisted device. Short of a factory reset or using the Kindle Fire First Aide to reset the device to the initial setup where you create an account and enter your name, I have no other advice.
Good Luck!
You know, you could always install Omega Statusbar which would change the look thus removing your name. (Visually, at least)
it seems omega statusbar doesn't display my notifications. thanks anyway
Use jelly bean status bar it hides the name
sent from my unrooted kindle fire hd
it's the same as omega status bar
I wrote a batch file that replaces lockscreen ads with user images on Kindles with special offers. Tested only on rooted 3rd gen (2013) KF HD 7". Trying to figure out if it might work on other models. The ad folder I target is:
/data/securedStorageLocation/dtcp/adunits
Could someone tell me if this folder exists on 2nd gen 7" HD or 2nd or 3rd gen 8.9" HD? I Figure everyone here has frozen or killed ads, but the ad folder may still be there. TIA for info.
I am only just getting used to CM on my Fire. I have set up a restricted profile for my child. The problem that I have is the home screen is black (the lock and open apps screens aren't). If I switch to the open apps screen it says "Your recent screens appear here". If I go back to the home screen then I get "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped", so I have no way to launch apps in the restricted app.
I have enabled apps in the restricted profile settings.
I've tried a "normal" additional user and a guest and both of these appear to work.
Just wondering if I've done something wrong, or if restricted users don't work ?
I forgot that I posted this as I never got any answer at the time, I probably posted to the wrong place
Anyway, to close this out, I discovered that the "HPROF" app needs to be enabled (in the owner's "App&Content Access" settings screen for the restricted user) for the restricted profile to work properly. With this app enabled for the restricted user everything works fine.
Sorry to dig this out again.
How have you been able to setup a restricted profile at all? I'm on 12.1 with my Kindle Fire (Thor) and I'm only able to setup new profiles without having the chance to chose between regular and restricted. Any hint?
Hi, yes. I have set up one for my daughter and used a restricted profile. Here's what I did...
As your main (owner) user, bring up settings and then users. You need to go that way - don't swipe down and tap the user icon on the right hand side because that lacks the restricted user option.
Anyway, from the settings->Users screen, select "add user or profile" and choose "Restricted Profile". After you've added the profile it will appear on the same settings->users screen. It will have a little cog next to it - tap that and then enable the apps you want to allow the profile to access. By trial and error I discovered that you must enable HPROF. I think that everything else is optional. Good luck
Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately CM 12 and 13 builds for the Kindle seem to be "smartphone" rather than "tablet" builds. As Google has removed the feature of restricted profiles for smartphones, on the Kindle the option of setting up restricted profiles is missing :crying:
Ah! I just noticed that your device is different to mine - this is the forum for the Amazon Fire 7" - 5th Gen 2015. I have CM 12.1 and it works on my device (Kindle Fire 7" 2015, codename KFFOWI). Sorry it didn't work out for you
True, Fire HDX is different to Fire. Nevertheless I would have expected, that at least classification of the devices (smartphone vs. tables) is equal. Thanks anyway!

As you are discovering custom ROMs for HDX sometimes identify the device as a phone vs tablet. Some HDX models do come with a LTE radio which may be a contributing factor. Fuller response provided in the HDX forum.
I'm not to good with tech I'm getting better as I have started working with Linux computers including raspberry pi.
Is there any way to root the Amazon Kindle 5.4.0.0?. I don't care if it's temp root I just need a way to disable many of Amazon's features. I'm not interested in getting new ROMS or installing another OS.
Any one have ideas?

I've been searching like crazy the last week to try & Root this device. Everything I've seemed to find for 5th Gen version is for earlier OS (5.0.1 - 5.1.1)(I have latest OS 5.4.0.1) . I've read in multiple places that reverting back to the earlier OS have completely bricked there 5th Gen. I don't want a brick. I want a better 5th Gen.
Also I've seen different ways to Root for 8HD & 10HD. I even tried one but it wouldn't allow me to press the recover tab at the bottom. It allowed me to cancel it & that was the most of it. All for nothing. This process which I thought would be for the most part easy has become aggravating & extremely frustrating! I don't want to be like everyone else "PLEASE HELP ME", but I understand now how they've come to that conclusion!

At present there is NO root solution (or bootloader exploit) for this device running FireOS 5.3.2.1 and above. Reread that last sentence. Good, now we're done with that.
You can roll back to FireOS 5.4.0.0 and do some modest debloating if that suites your fancy. The Google Play Store can be easily installed on any current build of FireOS v5 giving access to a broad array of apps that may not be well represented in Amazon's store. You can also install an alternate launcher (eg: Nova) with some caveats which will give a different look to the home page/app drawer plus limited gesture support. Beyond that you have an.Amazon tablet running a highly customized version of Android 5.1. Get use to it.

Thanks for your feedback. I tried adding playstore once. Didn't work. I'll try again. By any chance do you have the links to roll back the O.S.? Alternate launcher? Etc... I have tried searching, but seems almost everything I find is for earlier O.S. or for 8HD, 10HD. Would instructions for those work for this one?
