Selling on Swappa, Should I unroot?? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Just as the title says, I am looking to sell my verizon s6 edge on Swappa. I am undecided if I should take it back to stock or not before I list it. I feel like a huge amount of normal users may be scared away by the fact that it's rooted on oe2 with clean rom.
What do you guys think? I am wanting to get the 64 gig moto x pure so I can unlock the bootloader and have my way with it, so I think a $500 price for a mint phone would be fair, but I just don't want to scare away potential buyers.
Opinions??

~90% of users do not even know what root means.
If you sell the phone to one of those users the buyer will likely panic and ask why every update is failing to install.
Your smartest move would be to unroot through Odin.
If the buyer wants root he/she can root.

Actually, they couldn't root, because the latest update doesn't allow it. I guess I just hate to unroot a phone and render it unrootable because rooting is at the core of my nature, lol. I just have to remember it won't be mine to tinker with anymore, haha

This thread gives the appropriate firmware used to unroot.
Every time I use it, I am able to root again.
It restores the phone to the original factory settings, the OC3 build.
OC3 obviously can be rooted.

I got ya, that's a good Idea. I will just sell it on oc3. If they know what they are doing then they can take it from there.

I totally agree. At least keep it on the rootable firmware. Its a smaller percentage of people who root, but many of those people use swappa. Its even an option for your listing. I have myself bought an mdk s4 just because it was the only place I could find the last vzw Samsung device with an unlocked bootloader. I payed more for it too, after mine broke. I would imagine those interested in a rootable s6 edge would probably do the same.

When I sold my galaxy s4 the person buying the device wanted it to remain rooted, and paid extra for it. It all depends on the buyer.

[Q] Simple Question(s)

Hey, thanks for taking the time to read this, I appreciate it. Well, let's get to it. This is my first phone a plan, all my other phones prior had been using a sim card and I had paid for it fully. This is the first time I bought a phone that I am paying off monthly on a Basic Sprint plan.
Will Rooting or Flashing my device cause any issues with my carrier or incur any extra fees. (I can't afford that atm)
Once my device is flashed/rooted will I lose connection to my account?
(Super Silly question) To Root my device will I lose all my information?
Seeing that I am content with the stock ROM, I'm just looking for the benefits of being rooted, should I go ahead and root my device?

You might have to have Sprint reprovision your phone.
Yes
I've had mine since launch without root, and it's honestly the first phone I've ever had where I didn't really find the need to root it. And I like fully stock phones.

Thanks for answering!
I have this feeling the Sprint will give me sh*t for rooting it for some reason. Like make things complicated for me.
I rooted and changed roms within 5 minutes of owning mine. Have sent 2 back now for device issues. The guy that works at sprint thought it was cool that I was doing that.
For troubleshooting reasons it would be a PITA to fix but if you know what you are doing you could take care of most stuff on your device.

Yeah, I think I'm going to keep stock for now. People usually thinks it's some big thing to flash roms and root.

I did because I was really sick of sense
If you have to send your phone to htc for any reason outside of Sprint (warranty issue), and they find out you unlocked your bootloader, they could charge you a few hundred dollars to repair or refuse to help you at all. There are ways around this, but nobody else mentioned this scenario. Just throwing it out there.

Hello

So I've been looking at this phone as my next device and I'm kinda worried about jumping onto a "vzw flagship" device. I like the specs of this device and it's size but being a moto device and no root exploit I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger. Would anybody care to chime in and give me some of the real world pros and cons. I'm coming from a S3 that's been rooted and rom'd since day 1 and have a bad habit of crack flashing.
I also have a question about root access on this device. Why wouldn't towelroot work to gain root.

For the towelroot question. Check out Towelroot.com
Currently the droid turbo device is locked, and I personally feel we wont see any root until after lollipop has been released to us. Bootloader i feel will never happen, but then again I been surprised before.
We'll never see a true bootloader unlock. I'm still waiting for that on my old droid X. Never gonna happen. I'm not to concerned about finding root as long as theirs a way to remove the apps Verizon loads it up with.
If you want root, don't buy a phone without a root exploit. Taking the chance on a non-exploited phone and expecting something to happen is silly. If you don't care about root, this is the best device you can buy from Verizon.

My Tedious Adventure back to OCE (From OF4)

Recently I updated to OF3 and found out the hard way that there is no root method. Frustrated at the fact that nothing was available at the moment, I unhesitatingly updated to OF4 for the StageFright patch. Soon after that, I had the itch that a possible root method might be coming out for OF3 and flashed, through ODIN, the stock OF3 tar files to my OF4 S6. All booted up well and was looking flawless untill I noticed the circle with a line through it, indicating that I had no service whatsoever. Worried, I re-flashed the OF3 and got nowhere, so I turned to the AT&T support center where they had previously replaced my phone with an issue like this. I went in (under warranty) and gave them the phone to look at. 10 minutes later they realized that they couldn't do anything and replaced my phone on the spot with a brand new replacement running the original OCE firmware. I was ecstatic and relieved at the fact that I could achieve root once again. Anyway that was my tedious journey back to OCE. :good:
Wtf does this have to do with development?

So you soft bricked your phone and got it replaced under warranty?
This isn't downgrading firmware, it isn't new, and it isn't ethical.
There are several unethical aspects on the other side to be argued. For starters, how about, is it ethical to be told what I can and can't do with a device I bought and own...especially if i paid for it in full? Is it ethical to not give me the ability to uninstall software I choose not to have on a device I own? Is it ethical to delay firmware updates that include high risk security updates for almost a year? Is it ethical to charge for Internet tethering when I already pay for Internet on a device that natively supports tethering? I can keep going if you would like....

It is when you sign the paper that says you agree to all those things.
Just because you sign the paper doesn't make it ethical or right. Again, one could argue, even if it's in your contract that says the carrier may provide updates whenever or not at all, is that ethical to do so in modern times and leave your customers vulnerable to attacks or security exploits because you don't provide updates in a timely manner? Its called unethical business practices in which all carriers get away with. They stick it to us, so I'm all for sticking it to them given the opportunity to do so. Either way, I'm pretty sure the carriers are getting the better side of this deal at the end of the day.

I don't like it either. But they are upfront about what you are and are not getting in your agreement. As long as they uphold their end, I don't see that as unethical. Scummy maybe, but not unethical. If you don't like it, vote with your wallet.
Anyone buying any ATT device and expecting an unlocked bootloaders, root access, or the ability to do these things is either not doing their research or is naive. Especially those paying full price.
If you must have an S6 and all that, buy an international device or a TMO device, or buy a nexus or other known unlocked device.

Stupid questions regarding getting a new Samsung Galaxy S5 G900A (AT&T)

If I were to right now get the Samsung Galaxy S5 AT&T ( http://www.att.com/cellphones/samsung/galaxy-s-5.html#sku=sku7120234 ), is it known whether it will have a rootable version or not?
If I am unable to root the phone and keep it rooted, I'll most likely have to go with another phone. (Which would be a shame.)
I've read up some on the situation, and it seems as long as it is version 4.4.4 I would be fine.
And I would be able to update while keeping root if I follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g900aof2-5-0-keeproot-t3149146
So, I suppose the real question is how sure is it that you'll get the 4.4.4 (rootable) version of android?
And are there any downsides to doing so right now?
(I have a rooted phone now: An HTC First. The failed "Facebook" phone. It was very easy to root and receives no updates, so it's been hassle free, but it'd be nice to finally update.)
I'm not sure if you are buying direct from AT&T or not, but I think it's been confirmed that they have only been selling S5s with 5.0 on them out of the box.
Root may come eventually for those who have factory Lollipop images on their S5s, but I wouldn't count on it. Unfortunately, the window for an easy root on a brand new AT&T branded S5 has closed.
How much are you willing to spend? I'd consider selling my almost mint condition rooted 5.0 GS5 for the right price. I just got it in the Spring and it's in fantastic shape.

If root is a deal breaker I suggest not getting the GS5 unless you are positive that you can get one with KitKat out of the box.
That being said...I have an unrootable one on AT&T that I got free for extending my contract; and I found that their 5.0 build for this phone is probably the most stable phone I've ever had on AT&T ever. Besides the battery and back cover nag alerts and not being able to save Amazon video to the SD card...I have no other complaints re: not having root. But even when I had devices that were rooted...they were stock-rooted. As always...YMMV.

Rooted S6 Edge better or worse?

Hello all,
I just got a new Verizon S6 Edge by extending my contract but most likely I am going to keep my S5 and sell the S6 (don't like the lack of microSD slot and fixed battery). It came with a ROM version (OE2) that would allow me to root it easily with PingPong (have not activated it yet so no OTAs pending).
Do you think it would be more attractive to a buyer if I rooted it (or kept it at OE2) prior to selling it?
What are the negatives of freezing at OE2? Someone mentioned about a serious security hole but that was on Reddit, so you never know what is true.
Thanks for any input.

By rooting it, you're limiting your target audience to those who want root. A "novice" smartphone user, is going to not care, and more than likely will be more turned off by the uncertainty of it in their eyes, with the fear of something going wrong vs a stock phone (even though most of the time it's just fine). It'd be better to leave it stock, and just let potential buyers know that it CAN be rooted easily if they want to. Let the buyer make the choice, and keep your pool of buyers larger. Just my opinion.

Good point. I was going to try it for a week or so to make sure it worked OK and in case I changed my mind, but I am sure it would do an OTA during that time. And it would be used, so worth less I guess.
Thanks for the input. Will leave it as is and sell it with info about current ROM status.

Hey man. Was trying to get a hold of you over on howard forums, but their approval process takes ages.
When you're ready to sell let me know. I am trying very hard to find one that can be rooted. I'll trade, buy, or whatever. Have this stupid s6 edge
that my wife graciously updated for me before I could root it, thus making me hate the phone.

Sorry about that. I have it on Swappa right now. You can see the ROM info there to confirm that is what you are looking for - I made a screen shot of it. PingPong is supposed to work fine but I wasn't going to do it since I wanted to sell it new/unused, in case a person wanted it as a gift for Christmas. Not looking to trade; just selling it because I like my S5 (now rooted with LP).
