If you take out the magnet in the clear view cover you can get full screen usage with it closed. It's really obvious and in the bottom corner. You can't hit the home button when is closed so I assigned nova launcher as an s-pen shortcut. Also, finger usage isn't great but the pen works flawlessly

While tinkering with google map's I noticed that the screen seems to respons to 2 seperate points? give it a try for yourself. I used my finger to move side to side and the pointer to move up and down, this worked together and independantly on my phone. If this is the case can we see software to support this function such as image resize and so on?????
P.S. a couple of other things to try.....
Hold volume up button and press the action button (this brings up the screen calibation)
I think this has been mentioned before but there is a easteregg in the weather screen
If you tap on the dark bar that says weather near the side Left then Right it run's a demo of the various animations.
I don't think it's multi touch, it just finds the mean of the two points you press. It's the same if you use two fingers in some touch pads at laptops. Try this and you may understand what I'm talking about. Start google maps and touch the left part of the screen. While keeping your finger down, touch the right part and see when happens. With both fingers down, release the left finger and see what happens. This is due to the way the touch screen works, but it's definitely not multitouch.
Good tips for the screen calibration and the animations demo (although it doesn't show all animations - I didn't see the fog animation )
What are your suggestions, tips and tricks?
In Gallery app you can press S Pen button and single tap photos to select. Or you can hold S Pen button and select group of photos at once by moving S Pen across the screen (just like you do with mouse on PC). Thats all
Try touchretouch app , flipaclip app , scribble racer games , check on youtube top apps for galaxy note 4 some good finds
selecting text with S-Pen is so great. It makes my life really easy
New convert. The S-pen rocks. I didn't use it for the first couple of days I had the phone - why would I?
Used it once and I'm hooked. Can't go back. Who needs a tablet! It's fantastic on the web, it's fantastic with documents, its.... Fantastic.
Gush.
Thing is, are there replacements? Do they cost much? Can we get metal ones?

I Definitely know you can get replacement S-pens, I saw them in a phone shop a few weeks ago when I was looking around for cases, and there was an official one that was 49000 KRW (Approx. 50 USD). I don't think samsung make metal ones, but there are probably third party ones available.

thanks didn't know this
No problem.
I have found that selection with S Pen also works in contacts! Just hold S Pen button and slide-select contacts or tap every contact separately.
Every scrooling object like web page or drop-down list have active zone at the top center or button center. Just hover S Pen over it to scroll up or down.
S Pen can select text absolutely everythere! In web pages or even in apps or system GUI or Home Screen! Hover S Pen over some text, press and hold S Pen button and slide through the text just like with PC mouse! You will get selected text and popup menu with actions!
Browse the internet using S Pen just like you would use PC mouse. You can hover over links, diffucult hided menus and get hint on browser functions.
Try papyrus such a great app for notes
Do you think the Spen of the Note2 is finish better than the Note4? Compare both I think my Spen on my Note2 is better (the shape, the material,...) than one on the Note4. Poor Samsung!
Can someone make a module that replace the navigation and with gestures like on iPhone X? I really like the idea and I want to see it on Android .
Thanks!
+1
What would be the gesture for the back button? Swiping to the sides switches apps in the iPhone. The android ui relies on the back button.
Check all xposed modules

I don't know what exactly you are looking for, but have you tried Xposed Edge Pro? It is fantastic... and powerful. Probably will fit your needs.

Besides it Xposed Gesture Navigation also deserves a try.

Click on the edge of the screen? Or maybe hold?

I use swipe down on right edge center.
Up is menu.
Press and hold top is fast upwards.
Press and hold bottom is fast downwards.
Press and hold center is a pie app switching related.
Press and hold left edge center is general pie.
Press and hold bottom edge center is a pie clipboard related.
And lots of other stuff..... All with Xposed Edge Pro.
Needs Refinement
I love UI changes, so over the years I've tried things like Android Pie, Gesture control, exposed modules, and even multi window stuff all the way back in the tablet days of Android Honeycomb.
The problem is the lack of response breaks them.
When I swipe from the bottom I need instant feedback (visual/audio/haptic or all three) as to whether or not the phone thinks I'm scrolling down or going home.
When I realize I am scrolling down/going home and I want to be doing the opposite action, I need to be able to stop the gesture mid-way and reverse my action.
I need to easily be able to distinguish between the two gestures so that if I do mess up, I know what to do to get the desired result.
I need all other apps to accommodate/not request this gesture.
The iPhone does this well by having a bottom bar, you pull the bar up to go home, you swipe somewhere else to scroll. There is instant visual feedback, and the action can be stopped midway.
For Android here is a non-clone example.
1. Have a bubble/circle (looks like a chat-head) right where the home button is.
2. Swiping up behaves similar to pulling down (refreshing) on chrome/many apps. You start pulling and there is an animation but the action does execute till a certain threshold.
3. Swiping right-to-left has similar animation but for back button
4. Swiping left-to-right does the same but for multitasking
5. Long press for something else
This is not radically different from other gestures or Android Pie, but I believe the small changes and refinements would take it from being impractical to smooth and enjoyable.
I like the new iPhone X's "swipe bar" and I would love to find it on my android phone.
In my opinion a dedicated visible bar is better than "swipe on the edges".
Why? Because even "swipe on the edges" works obviously with a small area of the screen (otherwise is impossible to detect swipe gestures), but this area is transparent, which is cool but also bad: sometimes when you just tap on that area (when you're typing on the keyboard for example) an involuntary swipe is detected.
So in my opinion a visible bar like the current navigation bar is necessary.
But is definitely unneccessary such a big area!
So I imagine the perfect "swipe bar" a small, minimal and animated (when touched) area.
User should be able to map up to 4 different swipe gestures (up, right, down and left) and tap gestures (one tap, double tap, long press, ...)
I drew some concepts of the "swipe bar", what you guys think?

You mean something like this
Hi,
I'm looking for a way to use S pen in my presentations. I have connected projector via HDMI to Note 8, presenting live android application. Sometimes, I want to draw something on the top of running app. Now, I just use draw on screen function of S pen, which makes screenshot and let me draw on it, which is totally fine. BUT, there appears button like Save, Share etc., which occupies half of screen (when presenting landscape) after one second when I take S pen off the display. So I'm pushed to hold S pen all the time on the screen, in some corner, drawing a dot to prevent showing those buttons.
Do you have idea, how to draw something on screenshot in fullscreen? Without any onscreen options and buttons?
Thanks!
In for example Nova launcher the navbar is transparent and shows your wallpaper all the way from the bottom of the screen to the top. Sure the cutout hole is visible but I never minded the cutouts on phones.
So if the cut out was visible in All apps that would be something I want. Just as if you zoom a YouTube video to cover the whole screen and the cutout shows.
Or.. alternatively, if there was a way to minimize/push the navbar upwards to slim it a bit, it also would be a good compromise.
Nothing like that around?
The problem I have is all the higher quality bumper cases have raised edges so your finger catches on the edge as you swipe up so you dont always register a swipe, this is a major floor with this option so I've had to go back to having the buttons showing all the time, problem with this is they are only transparent on the main screen, therefore you cant get full screen anymore with buttons showing, this is a big fail, hope Samsung realize this and fix it.
