Why is Captivate extremely hot

My girlfriend and i both have captivates and she said hers was getting hot. I didnt think of anything as all phones get a little warm while charging. However when i grabbed it last night, it was so hot it could have burnt my hand. It feels hotter than most dinner plates at resturaunts. New battery does the same thing. What could it be? Two bad batteries?

If it's still under warranty, I would suggest taking it back in to AT&T. (If you've modded it, make sure it's back at stock first, of course.) It sounds like a hardware issue, and if you explain it to them, they might swap it out for you with one that doesn't behave that way.
Someone else may be able to offer a different/better solution, but if you've got hardware getting that hot, that signals to me that it's going to be trouble down the line, and it's better to take care of it now.
Not under warranty. Took in to store and att rep said something inside smells like its melting.

could be alot of things. first try changing the ROM on your device. How's your battery life? which part seems hottest?
Battery life sucks. Rom is stock froyo rooted. battery life was worth with other custom roms and stock seemed best since shes not into the whole modding scene like me. I think were just going to get her a samsung infuse probably.

how patient will I be?

Well, with many thanks to jfbs and ArtfulDodger, my phone is alive again, after my ham-handed abuse. I had it stock for about a day before the desire to get rid of the bloatware made me root it. Now, it's rooted with the stock rom. Am I a reformed flashaholic? I don't know if I'm going to go back to the jb rom i was trying to get back on the phone, or will i stay with stock until kit kat makes it to the exhibit? I would love me some slimkat - j/s. They sat patience is a virtue, but I'm a 21st Century Digital Boy with the attention span of a gnat....
We do have KitKat I'm running it now

I know. I read that. I'm just running rooted stock, right now. Kit Kat is a serious temptation. Hey a good kernel, like we had with jb, and I will....

Guys even on the S2 with official updates KitKat is very buggy. It's a very fast ROM but it has to be the buggiest android release ever! I know a new OS has problems at times but geez we're to 4.4.1 now and still there are issues and ART is not cooperating much. I'd really wait a while before trying it.

Thanks for letting us know. I figured I would wait a bit, for the wrinkles to get ironed out. Still pretty early. I'm happy with the Exhibit right now, so I can afford to wait a bit.

I have spoken with T-Mobile customer support and they claim that there are no current plans to upgrade the LG G Flex to KitKat. I am guessing that they just don't want to say a word until it is official.

To those calling to customer support asking when the update is going to come out, they don't know! I used to work for as a supervisor for escalations for sprint and the carrier doesn't disclose that kind of info to the csr and whenever customer call we just tell them either we don't know or that soon. So don't even bother as the csr don't know.

Hell half of the ones ive spoken to over the years didnt know what a bootloader was or when you refer to the OS by name ,i.e. icecream sandwhich, jellybean, they dont know which version it is 4.1, 4.2, 3.4, etc. I believe I read some where that T-Mobile has officially said that the flex will update to 4.4 but it didnt specify when. But for customer service to tell the guy above that it will NOT update, thats the recorded call that will make it into the training course of things not to say or do.

Same goes for retail. Most of the people selling phone don't know 1/2 the stuff that phones have or do. I learn more from the the video reviews from the likes of phonedog, techno buffalo, pocket now, etc. Xda is the best source to find out when the update will hit as someone will post up the news.
thats cool so t mobile said any day now. well i hope its soon kitkat was awesome on the nexus 5 and it was pretty good on the s4. I am hoping for the same results for the G Flex. but can anyone confirm about the whole battery drain. That would ultimately be a deal break if it affect battery life. defeats the point of a 3500 mAh battery.

The link I posted back a few posts was a Flex user from somewhere not in the US. He noticed a slight drop in battery life with KitKat. It does kind of suck but battery life will still be good just not as great. I'm thinking in a day or so AT&T Flex users will say the same as that guy.

I've said other wise multiple times now. The notes on AT&T kit Kat said it had battery improvements and i for one definitely notice them, when using the phone for instance i went 52min before dropping down to 98%? 2% with a screen on time of near an hour is good even for the powerhouse battery the flex has.

My friend said he noticed a drop in battery life with his S4 after KiKat and same goes for the G2. I guess will find out soon enough with the AT&T Flex. Something seems to be draining my T-Mobile Flex a little more lately. I think I read Lookout drains the battery some even when you disable it. What is a good battery app to see what's draining?

You're likely using Swiftkey. This seems to be an issue for all of us using that keyboard, however, it doesn't seem to cause any functional issues with the keyboard or phone. It's a minor annoyance, and is hopefully being addressed by the Swiftkey devs.

I'm really hoping that the Rom just needs to settle down and it gets better over time

Is there a certain version of the lg mobile software support tool I should be using? VS980 isn't there under the install driver options and the software doesn't see the phone even though I can see it in windows explorer when hooked up through usb.

Just out of curiosity, why 5.1.1, given that it's considerably less secure than Marshmallow? There is a 6.0.1 MOB30H available with security update of 1st May.
Not trying to persuade you - I'm sure you have a good reason. As I say, just curious...

At this point being more secure on a nexus really is not a big thing. Many people are moving back to pre- material design versions of android.
"being more secure on a nexus really is not a big thing"
I said exactly that in a post a few weeks ago, asking whether the flaws they find in labs actually have any real-world impact, and was mightily down-voted for daring to suggest such a heresy...

Android security really is a joke. As long as it is rooted then security is out the window. People like to think security is a big thing.

The problem is that no one devs for that out dated version anymore. You will be lucky to find even a single rom for it. Maybe an old slim roms.

Slim roms. Its the name of the rom. I cant say everything will work completely and you will also lose many of the things 6.0 brought. Go into the dev section and look for a rom updated about a year and a half ago and that would be 5.1 based

Your issue will most likely be that you will have to revert the bootloader as well as the radio files. If you are on 6.0 you will have to revert these things to work on the 5.1 which will require you flashing the stock rom from google then redoing everything from scratch.
