How can I return to stock OS? - Google Chromecast

Hey Guys,
I've been using Eureka rom for a while now and I realised that I don't actually need any features from it anymore now that Netflix is available in my region.
I looked around and I couldn't find any guides on how to restore my Chromecast to stock so I was wondering if anyone knows how it can be done?
Any help?

You may want to consider using the Stock OS with updates disabled version, as that version does preserve the bootloader vulnerability, so you can still use FlashCast to flash a new ROM later. In fact, you will have to since Google OTA updates (which would patch the bootloader vulnerability) are disabled and there are no automatic ROM updates like with Eureka-ROM.
If you still want to return to true stock, consider trading with someone who wants a rooted device. Rootable devices are more and more difficult to find nowadays, so you could help out someone who really does want/need a rooted Chromecast.
Otherwise, PM one of the Team Eureka members and they can provide you a true stock ROM to flash. The reason why the ROM is not publicly available is because it is a one-way trip - once you return to stock, you cannot get root back as the HubCap vulnerability will be patched. It's far too likely that someone will accidentally (and permanently) unroot their Chromecast and be upset.

Awesome thanks for the help.
I'll try selling it on ebay or something first, otherwise I'll ask someone from Team Eureka for a fully stock rom.
(p.s. if anyone wants a rooted chromecast let me know. )

The likely hood of us actually rooting a 2.1 build is there, but it is going to take a long time. Someone with the know how is going to have to either A. Buy a Hero - unlikely after June 4th or B. A dev will take the dive a load it just to find root.
Eris only has root because of a rom that was leaked with root still in it. They were never able to find an exploit.
Droid guys are actually having to load there 2.0.1 OS back to root the new ones.
It is entirely possible that this phone never finds root again.

Rooting G920A running Basband Version G920AUCU3CPD6 (Marshmallow 6.0.1)

Hey All,
I've spent days now scouring the web looking for anyone and anything to root my G920A running G920AUCU3CPD6 (Marshmallow 6.0.1). There is absolutely nothing I could find. I have queried just about every method, and I have several emails out to various developers, sw companies, etc., but nothing yet. Is there anyone out there who can help?

No.
Jeez
Wow what a blunt reply. Anyway I have also been probing the far corners of the clearweb for a root on this device. No luck. PingPong root doesn't support it, SRSRoot says that it rooted the phone, but it doesn't actually work. I'm not going to try to flash a rom with odin cause i need to keep the data on it. Lmk if you find anything out. Peace.
I believe the next logical step would be to try reverse-engineering parts of the new kernel and look for exploitable bugs, rather than looking for work done on the subject by other individuals and attempting to classify them as the same thing.

I wouldn't even know where to begin with that, bit outside my technical expertise. Is it something you are familiar with? Or can you point me in the right direction?
Can I downgrade from the PD6 OTA? I am running 100% official. I see there are no tools for rooting 6.0.1, but can I odin down to a version of 5.1.1 that I can root? It's been a while since I have done that, and IIRC sometimes it's impossible to downgrade once you have upgraded. I don't care about Knox or Samsung Pay, losing those is fine.
Thread jacked! Haha
I heard you can, man. Check that 'Root 5.1.1 with a snag' thread that Metalcated started.
I think somebody mentioned you can. Usually you can't - you're right - but I don't think this bootloader was enforcing it. Worse comes to worst it'll just fail to ODIN it and you're stuck. No real risk of bricking. :good:

I mean, a good hex editor would be a start.
Maybe like IDA Pro? I love IDA :3
You could probably scope out some good Android disassembly tools if you look.
Maybe checking the AOSP code itself?
Maybe look into the Android system images that you can download with the SDK?
Not sure. A bit out of mine too, but definitely an area of interest.

Will be trying this on my G920A soon. (PD6)
Short answer: No.
Long answer: it's not public yet. I saw many people in other forums talking about a private method that allows them to root G920A 6.0.1 and untethered (unlike the one we have right now for 5.1.1). I do not have the files and I don't know if it's going to be released to the public. I hope one of the insiders leaks it soon because I don't wanna upgrade to 6.0.1 without root.

Ohhhh I didn't look at the baseband version.. Yeah it will brick your device. At this point you should take what I say with a grain of salt when I say you can't root lollipop and you should have better luck sticking to lollipop and waiting for someone to find a vulnerability in marshmallow.
Looks like that rooting is gonna have to wait a bit longer
Speaking of... Long shot here, but has anyone started looking for a vulnerability to exploit?

Doesn't apply to this situation.
From first link:
"(Caution! Do not flash if you have taken the OC4, OF2, or OF3 ota updates) and root with TowelRoot, before continuing with the above process."
TowelRoot doesn't work here.
Second link:
"Make sure your AT&T Galaxy S5 is 100% stock Android 4.4.4 KitKat firmware."
So no.

Android Pie OTA

Motorola is being unbearably slow about their Pie rollout, so here we go.
Do NOT try to downgrade back to Oreo if you've already taken the update.
If you haven't updated yet, please be sure that you will not want to return back to Oreo once you've used the guide below.
Thanks @smyaknti for the tip.
Prerequisites:
1. 100% Stock ROM with no system modifications of any kind.
2. This file is only for the Indian variant of the Motorola One Power.
3. You should already have the September security patch update installed on your device.
Please don't install this over the August security patch update.
https://mega.nz/#!k403FKCQ!9myFzAcCEhMk_EJ2Rl8miRO4dCqZoga-MOvli1SD3_8
1. Download from link and move it to root of your internal storage(not in any folder like Downloads etc). Put it outside all folders.
2. Go to Settings>Apps&notifications>Show all apps>3dot menu(top right of the screen)>show system apps
3. Find Motorola Update Services and give it storage permission.
4. Go to Updates screen and check for update. It will show up. Install as any normal OTA. Enjoy Pie!
I've installed Pie on my own device using the same file and the same method. So it's tested by me.
For users who are currently using Magisk to root their devices, this method is not for you. You'll have to return back to full stock using fastboot images.
Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for anything you install on your device. Use at your own risk.
What about future updates??
Hey @reddevil08, would you believe it?

Stupid admins on that forum. Merging threads that have no relation to each other just to hide bugs in Moto's software.
People on OnePlus' forum share ota links freely and no one complains.
They banned me for distrubiting pirated software  If it wasn't the official OTA file, it wouldn't have installed from within the system and with a locked bootloader. It's gonna look pretty stupid when that same firmware is distributed few days later

Exactly ?
That's why OnePlus is doing so well as a company. It works with the community and not against it.

The path they are on, they gonna die pretty soon. Lenovo is just using Moto's brand to sell a few devices. People are gonna realise soon that they are buying poor devices from Lenovo.

Hey @reddevil08, would you believe it?
They banned you from the official Moto One Power forum for providing people with the official Indian OTA.
Look at the screenshot. Really disappointed with Lenovo and Motorola.

The moto forum admins are such a-holes. They keep banning users for sharing the link in public comments but they won't reply to anyone who's asking for update timing and date.

I agree. I'm just waiting for the warranty to expire so that I can move to a custom ROM like LineageOS.

You'll have to wait for a year to do so, lol.
Well I'm gonna wait for the lineage to release.

Haha, yeah.
I previously had a Moto X and you might not believe, I had to get the motherboard replaced 4 times under warranty. So I think keeping the warranty intact is the way to go because even Motorola's hardware can't be trusted.

I guess that's pretty good for you.
But how did you manage to do both the things?
I means losing your motherboard 4 times and get it repaired every time ? ??
That's some nasty thing you did there buddy.

Motorola is being unbearably slow about their Pie rollout, so here we go.
Requirements: 100% Stock ROM with no system modifications of any kind.

I don't think this is the OTA. Or is it?
It's only around 700mb.
Please update the link. I would be grateful.
Thanks in advance.

The hardware kept failing randomly so I had to get in touch with some superiors at the company who helped me get my replacement motherboards in time. But the entire process was still a pain to go through.

Okay so I downloaded it anyway and pasted it in the root storage.
I only have one question. HOW DID THEY FIT ANDROID PIE IN 700MB ZIP?
Please share more screenshots.

Yup, this is the official OTA. I have installed it myself and it works perfectly.

It works fine for me. Your ISP must be blocking Mega. Are you using Jio to download?
