Power Button stopped working properly - Samsung Galaxy Gear

Hello, my power button stopped functioning properly after my device lost connection with my phone several times. Since then my power button doesn't react when pressed. However, long press works 50% of the time, so I can turn it on/off, but I can't double press the button to open an app or turn off the screen for instance. It's really strange. I haven't dropped or physically damaged the watch. I tried hard resetting it 3 times, but that didn't fix the issue. Everything on the watch works apart from the power button. The phone charges perfectly. Any ideas? Do you think this could be caused by a software or mechanical thing?
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Same here
I got the exact same problem , I'm running on the last version of the Null_ Rom and my phone is a GalaxyS3 LTE (4G) with a custom official rom of 4.4.4 ( working with gear manager ).
I don't understand pls help

Hey, Has I said few weeks ago, I had the same problem has you, so I tried to change the motherboard, so I bought a new one one IFixIt and I just get it this morning, but when I tried to change the MB I get a little surprise, in fact the screen or the mother board have been flowed on the other one, I don't really understand what the hell happened in this watch but Screen and MB was sticky as fu**, so I'm just gonna try to change the screen, I let you know if it's work again for me in a week or two ( I'm living in France so It would be about 1 or 2 weeks shipping as the MB )

Hey, so today I just changed my screen and the Gear is working now !
So it seem that was a screen problem :silly:

[Q] p1010 Unresponsive - had pleanty of charge

Hi had my p1010 (wifi only) tab about 1 week (actually since saturday so only a few days)
Anyway on the first day after playing with it for a few hours I put it down for a bit and when I picked it up the screen wouldnt turn on. No buttons worked and it was as if it had no battery power. I pluged it in but nothing happened. Left it for a while and still nothing.
In the end I fixed it by holding a finger on the screen and holding the power button. The tab turned on and I still had installed programs but all settings had been lost and it looked as if it was its first boot. Also the home and search buttons no longer did anything apart from make the device vibrate. I had to do a factory reset to get the buttons working again.
And now it has happened again.
Does anyone know what is causing this? has it happened to you? Is my unit defective and should I get a replacement?
Thanks for your help
I've only had my P1010 for two weeks, but nothing like that has happened to mine (yet). If it were me I'd be calling Samsung for a replacement :-(

Galaxy Tab 7 Won't Turn On? Here's a Fix it!

I've tried all of the other fix its to get my Galaxy Tab to work. I've tried charging for 12 hrs via wall charger (no response)... I've tried holding the power button plus home key while tapping on the screen at the same time for over 2 minutes (no response) ... I've even tried putting it into download or recovery mode by holding the power button plus the volume key (up or down) for over 2 or minutes (no response) ...
If you're like me and thought the manufacturer was your only option left, there is one thing left you can try.
All I did was remove the shell and unplugged the battery for 30 mins, plugged it back up and viola!!! I have the battery charging icon. And it now boots perfectly into the OS.
Its worth a shot.... here's a video I watched to learn how to remove the shell.

Note: you will need a tri-wing screw driver to remove the first two screws. I didn't have one and just used a precision flat head screw driver and it worked like a charm if using enough down force so you won't strip the screw.
Hope this helps someone...
Battery removal resets almost everything -- I'm grateful for your confirmation that it works on the Tab, and also for your links to the hammerless teardown.

good find
not had the problem myself, but that info is now in my brain for whenever I do have a problem
Good. Thx man!!!
Many thanks man, this saved my (tablets) life. Switched off my tablet last night after charging, for the first time in weeks, just to refresh everything. Tried switching back on this morning and nothing. I've spent all day trying to find out what the hell was wrong and tried all the various button solutions others have mentioned. Nothing worked. came across your info and links and thought I'd give it a try as I had nothing left to lose, tablet was dead. Voila!...back up and running again. I won't be switching it off again in a hurry. Once again great info and much appreciated.
Nice info, really helpfull, my friend gtab p1000 have some problem, wont turn on, and i found this thread, i just try once, and amazing its working, i hit thanks to you
My have turn off and dont turn on, i wiated 2 days and plugged in wall charger, and they work again.
dead tab
still got no luck...i'm tried of your skill yesterterday n my tab still won't turn on...
thanks for the advice
hai, i saw your posting and thank god it really helpful. i own a p1010 and some how it cant turn on twice!. what ever i do, and what ever tricks available in the internet i had tried it all, all with no success. so the first time around i had to sent it for repair and because my tab's warrant had already ended i had to fork out a lot just to make it running. the repair shop just stated that the battery and the touch screen need to be replace. how stupid of me to fall for that. after that my tab is usable again. then it happend again. two days later the same problem occurred. now i know it is not the hardware but the software that causeing all this headache.
now, with your posting, i opened my tab, disconnected the battery for 15 minutes and walla my tab is ok again. phew...save me a lot of money.
i see that the problem might be in the software. i see that alot of p1010 owners face the same problem here after upgrading from froyo to GB. and i notice that the blank screen syndrome would happen if we put it in a standby mode (my standby mode would be you touch the power button once just to make the screen goes blank).
just my 2cents.

Hi, I got same problem with you guys with my P6800. Tried all those methods (execpt those removing the casing/battery). I followed one tip and it works. Press and hold the power button for 20 second and release it. The screen displayed an image (icon?) of battery and clock. Some said it also work by pressing the button for 10 second.
thanks for the advice guys
holding the power button works
but my question is why is this happening?it wasnt happening before?

guys
does no one know whats causing this? is it a firmware issue? or battery?
for me, this happens every time I use the Netflix app. if I don't go into task manager and clear memory after every use of Netflix, my galaxy tab will not turn back on. sometimes fully charging it will wake up the screen, but that's not helping today so I guess I need to remove the shell even though I don't want to. I miss pocket PC's with soft reset buttons!!!

[Q] phone will not power off or on properly. Shut down menu pops up constantly

I have searched this exact title and came up with 10 pages and I never saw anyone else with this problem. Surely I cannot be the only one.
After the Gingerbread upgrade I was getting the tethering message/force close, during that time my phone started to randomly shut off ( settle down Beavis, this isn't the same question thats been asked a thousand times ) and reboot. I lived with the tethering message problem for as long as I could but my phone became more ignorant day by day. I finally found a fix for the tethering issue and haven't had a return problem with that but now my phone either stays in standby mode ( dark screen ) and refuses to respond to the hard button to wake it up OR once on it refuses to go into standby mode and stays on until I pop the battery or I go into settings and time the screen out in 15 seconds ( often times this doesn't shut it down either ). Sometimes I can get it to come on by multiple pressing the power button ( this can't be healthy ) and the lock screen will flash momentarily just long enough for me to unlock the screen. Other times it will go to the lock screen while I'm in the middle of something.
Every day at some point while it's on and I'm using it, the power button option screen pops up ( silent mode, flight mode, power off ). When I'm done with a call I try to go into standby and it just sets there...ON.
The thought has crossed my mind that the button doesn't work or has a short but I really think it's something else ( I hope ). Can somebody help me? I am not very techie although I have updated the phone three times myself. It is unrooted and 2.3.5
Thank you in advance
I would go with the power button. It's a known issue on captivate.

I stopped by the AT&T store the other day to check on insurance (ends up I didn't have it) and told them about my button not working properly and how the Captivate was notorious for this problem and they all said "We've never heard that". So the gadget gal is in there so she offers to take it apart and check it. She claims there isn't anything wrong with it and that it has the same amount of spring as the volume buttons. She then noticed that when she put the battery back in the phone came on automatically, I said it's not supposed to do that and she agreed but fortunate for me since I cannot turn it on. She then says I'm eligible for an upgrade and try's to sell me a new phone. I don't want a new contract.
So should I try and buy a new button and change it or could it be something else? Thank you in advance.
Are you using a case for your phone by any chance? If yes, is it too tight? Maybe the power button gets stuck because of that sometimes? Just a long shot! You stated that power menu pops up once in awhile when you're using it, is it possible that the way you grip the phone causes that? (Just trying to help and not trying to offend you btw.)
You might want to try flashing UCKK4 with bootloader(use it from the one click master collection of stock rom's) just to make sure that there is no issue with the firmware. It is not likely to fix your problem but it's good to have a clean start. At least that's what I would do to begin with.
Since you're willing to change the power button, why not do an experiment? Remove the power button and see if there is any change? If it works fine then it's the power button that's faulty else it's a hardware problem.

Screen Blackout!

Recently, I've noticed that my phone's screen completely blacks out while the phone is still working. So, if you plug in your charger, it'll play that charger connect notification sound if you use the fingerprint, it'll unlock the phone but nothing comes up on the screen. It'd be completely blacked out. This has happened to to me twice and has me got worried now. No matter for how long you hold the power button, nothing happens. Right now, it seems that the phone corrects the default by itself after leaving it aside for a good 10-15 minutes. Has anyone of you faced this?
Yep, unfortunately happens, though rarely . Mentioned in few other threads.
Happened to me thrice. Yesterday was the last go. You can reboot with Vol up + power.
It's an annoying bug, I'll admit that.
For me the same, two or three times last two weeks, I think some bug in Pie, because before there was nothing like thies

Experienced it thrice. The first time I experienced it was last August (Android 8.1 Oreo), then October and today. I didn't think this was the new Android 9 Pie's fault as I experienced it when my phone was on Android 8.1 Oreo. Also one thing I noticed is that even if the screen is not showing up, the touch controls are still active. So I managed to restart it normally my phone by press hold the power for a second and feel the default location of the restart.

Mine would just not restart. Or maybe I was touching the wrong portion of the screen... Afterall, it was all blacked out
Same, holding the power button vibrates the phone and touching the screen does make it vibrate sometimes, but Vol up + power does not do anything. Screen is still black.

It happened to me last month for the very first time and hopefully will never again in future!
I can't recall if I was pressing the right key combination but for several times it would just vibrate and then nothing. I had to call customer care from my secondary device to check what can be done who were pathetic to tell me to take it to the nearest service center. Then, I eventually tried the Power button + volume up and then it rebooted and went back to normal.
I was so shook with this incident, I hope it never happens to anyone. I've been using this device since 7 months now and it never happened to me when on Oreo. This device is getting more and more pathetic with each new update!
Hi,
sorry for necromancing the thread. It happened to me today too, for the first time. If anyone else stumbles upon this thread, then this is absolutely easiest solution:
1, Hold down power button until it vibrates
2, The screen is black, but the touchscreen still works. The easiest one to touch is the power off button, because it is right next to the power button So simply tap on the display right next to your power button after you feel the vibration, and you will tap the power off button. Wait a few seconds, then hold power button again to turn the phone on again.
Same happens to me. I hold down the power button until it vibrates, release, take a deep breath, tap button again and it is back.
Happened to me as well ?
Hi,
I just bought this smartphone nokia 7 plus TA-1046 4G/64G dual sim. I could parameter it and after only 2 hours of use: total black-out! I could still feel vibrating keys despite the black screen. I ve been able to force the restart by pression power button + sound level up, but the screen remained desperately black. I tried to charge it well for 1 hour, same ****. Surprisingly, I removed the sim card and the SD card and It restarted normally.
Pretty scary! Will it happen again? What was the pb? A SD card conflict? Shall I format the SD card maybe? Or buy a top quality SD card? A sim card conflict? Shall I keep the phone or send it back to the shop?
Did anyone narrow down a potential SD card cause as well for this kind of glitch?
Thanks.
Arn
Happened to me also couple of times.
One time happened just before I wanted to show off my phone to my friend. I had to keep my phone in my pocket for like 10-15 minutes, lol, I was embarrassed because I praised this phone, and praised Android One, because he was considering this phone to buy, for at the end he went with the P20 Lite.
F***you HMD
Re happened again
Just 1 hour ago my nokia 7 plus re black out again! Had to wait 1 hour to re start it. Then, it worked 5 mins and black screen again. That s enough => I ll ask for a product return and refund.
Btw: i don't have blackout problem using daily N7p for 10months...
Have you guys tried formatting the phone ? I had clearing cache issues when I set font size and screen size small. It will clear the cache very slowly and eventually it will struck. But it was solved after I tried default font size and display size. Looks like every model got its own issues.

Galaxy Note 8 won't turn on or charge!

I have a Galaxy Note 8 model SM-N950F/DS which I bought on the beginning of 2018 from Qatar with UAE FW, yesterday I was talking to my wife through a video call on Facebook Messenger for almost 1 hour, noting that I was calling her everyday since last January as I'm residing in another country for the whole day and never experienced the following problem except the heat one around 1 or 2 times only just lasts for a few seconds to a couple of minutes!
The phone was standing on wooden stand from IKEA Belgium inside a back cover from AUTO FOCUS and the phone is coated by mobile outfitters (these information may help in the over heating issue) and while we were talking the screen freeze and there were a couple of colored lines in a small area in the top quarter of the screen.
I took the phone and found it over heated from the back side at the bottom quarter and not responding with freeze screen, I searched the internet and found that I can restart the device by holding the power button with volume down button, it worked and the device restarted and gave me a black screen with blue blinking LED then I did use again the power button with the volume down button and it worked but turned off after requesting the OS login pin code.
After that I switched it ON and did the same for around more 2 times then stopped working!
I found on the web that I have to connect it to a wall charger via the original charging cable for around 10 minutes and then try the power button with the volume down, it worked and gave me the charging screen with the phone OFF and it was reading something in 20s percentage so I left it until it reached around 44% then tried to power ON the device again and the same thing happened, it gave me the "Galaxy Note 8" logo then asked for the OS boot pin and after I entered the pin it gave me "starting phone..." then stopped!
I tried to leave it again for 10 minutes in the charger and do the power button with the volume down and it gave me the charging screen again!
I left it until it reached 70 or 77% (don't remember exactly) and then tried to switch it on to the boot menu using the power button + Bixby button + volume up button and wiped the cache partition, after wiping that partition the phone restarted and never came up again!
None of the above worked again! Not leaving it charging for 10 minutes then try the power key + volume down key! Not the power + Bixby + volume up! I even found someone connected the charger for seconds then removed it then pressed power + Bixby + volume down and his phone worked, it didn't work to me!
Overall this, the phone isn't warming up when it connected to the charger back! so either it has a full battery or it stopped charging for hardware failure!
I don't know what to do, I almost tried everything and I can't imagine how it can have a hardware malfunction because of the over heating and worked several times after that! As I'm an electronics engineer I faced this before in certain embedded systems boards but it has to stop directly if there's a short circuit or certain damage in the circuitry.
I hope if someone can help regarding this!
I would bring it in for repairs. Sounds like a fried board.
Happened to my wife's redmi note. Phone was left on car dashboard under the sun with waze running and battery charging. Outside temperature was around 37 degrees celsius. When she reached the destination 1 hour later the phone was too hot to hold.
The phone screen froze. Managed to reboot it but phone never booted up again.
Got it fixed under warranty though.. Was a new phone back then. Change of board fixed it.

Thanks for your response, it seems like this is the only way but since that I have to take an appointment because of the current situation of the pandemic and since there still time for this appointment I though to post the problem here may someone discover a solution to try if the problem still software not hardware!
Now I understood what it really may happened if the problem is hardware and it's obvious now that it's definitely hardware!
If it's a fried board so it seems like the tracks on board was about to damage and this explains why it worked several times, during these several times, the passing current in this fried board starts to lose the connection damaging the board more and more until it became a total loss, which switched the phone OFF totally, so if this explanation is correct I don't think that I have anything to do except waiting until the service center open the phone chassis and look inside!

That's what I was wondering from the beginning, if there's a damaged IC from the over heating, how could you explain that it worked several times after the heating issue? Do you mean there was a partial damage in the beginning doesn't prevent the phone from working back again?

Sometimes when something is about to fail but isn't completely dead.. Sometimes it works intermittently.

I have a new update, after I left the phone for around 4 hours since our earlier conversation, I tried the combination of power button + volume down + Bixby key, the phone worked and gave me a green screen, when I pressed volume down to cancel and restart it, it didn't restart but gave my a black screen, I connected the charger and it gave me the charging screen with 0% battery!
Could be a battery issue?! The device was OFF, how did it drain the battery without operation?!

It seems like it still working! Now how can I tell there's no hardware issue beside the battery if it's the problem? Should I wait till the service center too or can I confirm with anything else? I'll leave it until reaches 100% and try to switch it ON while the charger plugged in, so it can boot up again easily!
Could it be the power management IC has something wrong? So it can't operate the phone very well?
After the phone reached up to 93%, I tried to switch it ON in Safe mode, but it didn't continue. I tried to open the recovery menu, it stuck in installing updates 3 times, each time it restarts, after that it could enter but without giving me the menu options, instead in the Android console screen it gave me some errors, the first one was that it can't load the recovery menu with no such file or directory between brackets!
To keep all of you updated with the phone's situation, I went today morning to Samsung Service Center and after they tried to operate it, they said the device is acting weird because it login to the OS then shuts off directly and this could be due to either the main board, the battery, or the operating system, but they refused to receive the phone after they knew that it came from outside Europe, so I took it to a 3rd party Service Center and I'm waiting for them to call me after their analysis!
Today the service center called me to pick up the phone and he said it might be the main board nothing else because the system doesn't load to the to the end, so I told him it might be a partial damage in the ROM so there are some corrupted sectors which prevent the system from logging because the loss of some files, he said yes maybe, then I asked him if he opened the phone he said yes, I asked if he noticed any damages in the main board like burns or anything, he said no!
