I've applied the "Fake" server trick to activesync, I have email set for manual update. I'm finding active sync running almost anytime that I check task manager. I kill it, but something keeps invoking it. Does anyone have some pointers on figuring out who's calling up active sync or ways to hold it off?
EDIT - It can be stopped, see below, it's time zones!
I also tried the fake setup and I'm also getting ActiveSync coming back on.
One application that does call ActiveSync (for me anyway) is iGO GPS software. Haven't seen any other app. yet and no ActiveSync in the background for me.
On the other hand, i have (real) exchange server set on manually. I just have to remember to close ActiveSync after syncs.
After weeks of using my Kaiser and battling Active Sync, which would be running almost any time I checked task manager, I think I found my culprit!
There have been a few comments about the time mysteriously changing time zones and the clock being wrong. I had not seen this until a few days ago when suddenly and intermittently my phone would jump 1 hour ahead. I'm on the Pacific coast and it was jumping to mountain time.
Anyhow, I went into Start>Settings>Phone>Time Zones Tab and Un-Checked the "Auto change time zone and clock" box. No more time issues and oddly, no more over agressive active sync. I closed it yesterday and it's still off today, first time ever, even after a soft reset which always completed with active sync running.
I've had ActiveSync almost 'permanently' running and I too have tried the fake server trick. Trouble is i'm abroad on holiday and i'm sure it's connecting to the phone network to sync by it's self. This is going to cost me a small fortune in over-seas charges or is there a reason why my gprs should be counting up by it's own (with all the obvious possibilities taken care of)?
Activesync kills my kaiser... if i put the kaiser into the wall with the power adapter its fine. But if i leave it hooked up to the PC Active sync always loads and it seems like it sync's every few minutes. After about 3-4 hours the today screen will freeze eventually. Anyone have any fixes or a way to only launch active sync manually? I just turned off the sync time zones so maybe that was the culprit.

Man, that was really aggravating me. Thank you so much.
You can also fix it by disabling the notification replog.exe NOTIFICATION_EVENT_TIME_CHANGE.

RemE will this effect me when I travel...I live in the Central Time Zone if travel west will doing this not change the clock to Pacific Time...if so, then there has got to be another culprit causing these time changes because when i look the notifications in MemMaid there are a ton of time changes, time zone changes....there is a bug somewhere that we have to find....
Yes, you'll just have to change the zone as you go, Start>Settings>Clock & Alarms "time" tab and set zone. If you go back and forth, set the visiting zone so that you can easily jump back and forth. Not much hasstle considering what it did before.

DotFreds Task manager will show you the notifications and do a whole lot more. It's free and you can get it here - http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=1612
From the name of the notification I would say that it does exactly the same thing as unchecking the timezone thing, just doing it the hard way. I've known about doing it this way though for a lot longer cuz I used to do it on my wizard that way.
Shortly after DST went off, I realized that I had a problem, because all recurring and all-day appts were one hour off (making the all-day appts span 2 days), during March-October 2008, when DST will go back into effect.
After finding no answers anywhere, I discovered that UNCHECKING the TIMEZONE setting ("automatic change time zone and clock") under PHONE options, fixed the problem.
However, I LIKE the idea that my clock will adjust automatically based on the time zone I am in. When I was with Verizon, I hated that the phone wouldn't change automatically.
I can't be the ONLY one with this issue, can I?
Please suggest how to have my cake and eat it, too!
Is EVERYONE keeping the TIME ZONE option unchecked? Or does no one have any recurring/all day appts already set for April of '08? Would really appreciate some help with this.
P.S. Even though we have wm6 on the phone, I did the DST fix from Microsoft, as well as the "extra steps" (which involves going to the clock setting, change the time zone, exit out, go back in and change to correct time zone and exit out), which does take care of the issue...for a little while. I can have the TIME ZONE option checked and it works fine...but only for a little while. Always after a soft re-set, it loses the time zone reading and sometimes it just loses it after the phone sits idle for a while.
I was under the impression that we weren't supposed to apply the DST fix at all on WM6 for the Tilt/Kaiser. I applied it way back and had all sorts of issues.
I removed it and it's been fine ever since the DST switch.
After applying the "fix" and it not changing anything, I did a hard reset and left it alone.
Do you have the Time Zone option checked in Phone settings to automatically set the time zone and clock?
If you have the Time Zone option checked, would you do an experiment?
Make a weekly recurring timed event that starts BEFORE March 1 and ends AFTER November 15, 2008. Then, do a soft reset. Then, go to your calendar and see if the events after the 2nd Sunday in March and before the 1st Sunday in November are an hour off? That's what's happening with my calendar.
And post your results here? Thanks.
I found that the auto time zone setting in Phone settings causes more problems, Activesync auto launches constantly with this setting enabled as well as occasional time jumps (eg. from PST to Mountain Time for no reason).
With the time zone setting un-checked everything is very stable BUT my stock Kaiser did not change DST correctly. I have since applied the DST patch and will wait for the next time change to see what happens.
Wow, just let me start off by saying that sometimes I just feel like grabbing this phone and smashing it against a wall
Pheww, now that this is off my chest, here is my question :
My phone is set to time zone EST. Every other time, when it feels like it, it decides to switch the time to GMT London, Dublin - a good 4 hour difference.
I use my phone as an alarm clock and as some of you can imagine that can keep me in bed and miss work - not good. And no I don't want a real alarm clock
I'm currently using swtos' ROM and I had 1.93 also. Still the same problem.
I tried doing a search and came up with wrong timings only for received text message, which is also an issue I had but fixed.
Any ideas?
I am not sure what you experienced are same as mine or not. For my problem, every time i synchronise my devise with my laptop using activesync, it will automatically sync to my laptop time. My laptop time is 10 minutes faster. I have to manually change it back to the actual time after remove charging from my laptop.
I know when I first got my phone the time kept changing to Sydney time (daylight savings) where I'm in Brisbane.
This fixed it for me, don't know if this is the same issue though..
Settings > Phone > Time Zones > Untick "Automatic change time zones and clock"

No, this is not related to active sync, it just seem to switch out to a different time zone. I just switched out ROMS and issue is still there.

I really hope this is the issue. Because it just did it again
I just switched daylight saving off - will report in a day or two. Thanks for the tio.
Well after switching off automatic time zone, the clock just reset itself back to London, Dublin time.
It seems to be switching only after 6PM - Any other ideas?
I have the same problem. I am on GMT+2 (Athens, Istanbul), and I choose this time zone. Pressing OK, and then again entering Time Zone Settings, it is changed to GMT+2 Windhoek. This is not the main problem (probably my provider did not set their settings, and sends me new settings).
Sometime (once in a 2 week period), time changes but not in full hour increment/decrement, but hours and minutes. This very morning, the alarm started at 7:15 (as it should). Few minutes later, I got up, switched on the phone and saw the right time: 7:23, but a second later it changed to 23:52 previous day. The time zone remained the same GMT+2 Windhoek.
This IS pretty annoying. Luckily, my wife has some old Nokia which works as supposed.
So I went into my IGO8 settings and I found that the time in there was set to London, Dublin time.
Not sure if this is the issue but I have now adjusted it to ET. I will report back in a while to give an update.
I used to have the same problem with my Hermes. I found that if I set the home and visiting time zones to the same time zone, it stopped changing.
^^
I really hope this the solution as my IGO8 settings didn't do the trick.
Starting last night, setting Google Now reminders is no longer working correctly. I'll issue a command to set a reminder at some time in the future (like "remind me to do something at 9am tomorrow"), the screen that comes up has the right date/time, then when I say "yes" to confirm, the confirmation screen that comes up has the reminder for three hours earlier than I asked for (6am). I can reproduce this 100%. This was working fine earlier in the week. If I issue a command to set up a reminder in 15 minutes from now, same thing, it gets set for three hours in the past on the final confirmation screen and says "this reminder is in the past". I'm on an unlocked Moto X, 4.4.3.
Thought it was just me, but it's now happening to my wife as well, she's on a locked Moto X (AT&T), 4.4.2.
I Googled around as much as I could and couldn't find anyone else having this specific problem. Can anyone confirm that this is/is not happening to them?
Make sure your date and time settings are set to automatic or, if not, make sure the correct date, time, and time zone are correct. I think may have a problem there. I just used google now to set an alarm in 15 minutes and set a reminder for 8:00 am tomorrow and they are both correct. (T-Mo, 4.4.3, unlocked)

That's the first thing I checked, on both affected phones, settings are correct. Thanks for the tip though. The strange thing is that the first GN screen shows the correct date/time, but the confirmation screen that comes up after you confirm the reminder has the wrong time.

Wipe cache and data for google search under settings->apps then log back in to Google Now, see if anything changes.
I can't reproduce the behavior you described unfortunately so I have no way of troubleshooting it on my end.

Just tried it, no luck.
Another interesting find: when it asks for confirmation of the reminder date/time, if I say "yes", it sets it for three hours earlier which is then displayed on the confirmation screen. However, if I click the on-screen button to confirm the reminder date/time (instead of saying "yes"), then the alert is set for the correct time.
And again, this is happening on two different Moto X's running two different versions of Android...

No, been in the same house for over 10 years. Haven't been out of my time zone in over a year...
If your rooted try uninstalling google search, reboot, then reinstall google search from play store.
Also check your calendar apps (stock any any 3rd party) to see if any manual time zone issues are there. Since no one else can reproduce it, its probably something on your device.

I tend to agree with you, except that the same problem started affecting my wife's phone on the same day. Other than both being on AT&T, she's stock 4.4.2 and I have an unlocked DE with 4.4.3. Both using stock calendar, time zones are correct. I'll try uninstalling GS but that won't be an option for her.
Same Issue
I have the same issue, reminder is getting set 3 hours prior to the time I specified.
Even worse
mine is same but worse...it sets the reminder 12:30 hrs before the mentioned time...i tried at 11:00 p.m. ..it gets set at 10:30 a.m. :crying:
same here...
I have pretty much the same problem and I think I kind of understand what is happening...
Ok, when I set the reminder by voice on Google Now, say "remind me to check the oven in 20 minutes" he will do just that, until now everything is going smoothly, but then it asks me "do you want to set it?" and when I reply "yes" it reloads the screen and then, for some reason I can't understand, the clock now shows 4 hrs late... It will even show me a message "this reminder is in the past"...
So, it happens on the reload, every time it reloads the remainder's clock is set back 4 hours. If I say just "remind me in two hours" it will set the clock correctly, but as soon as it asks me "what is the reminder?" and I say "check my pizza" it will reload the clock back 4 hrs, and finally when it asks me if I want to set it and I say "yes" it reloads again and sets me back another 4 hours for a total of 8 hours...
Note that if after you ask google to set it, you just click "remind me at this time" (set it manually with your thumb) it will not reaload and therefore never get a chance to alter the time of the reminder...
It is a very weird problem.... I wonder if anyone will be able to shed some light on it.
My device is a Galaxy Nexus running android 4.3, and it is rooted.
Thanks in advance

Well, sorry it's happening to you, but I now know I'm not the only one (I was starting to question my own sanity).
Yes, what you describe is exactly what I described in the first page of this thread - confirming with voice causes the problem which is then evidenced on the reload of the confirmation screen, but confirming by clicking the on-screen button sets the time appropriately. Thanks for confirming. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to correct the problem. I reported it on the Moto X users forum on Motorola.com, but you confirmed it's not specific to the Moto X, which is useful information.
Also, this does seem to be a fairly recent problem, at least for me - this was working fine earlier last week.
Same issue as well
Got the same thing happening on both my Moto X and Nexus 7. -3 hour time difference.
i have confirmed the same issue with Moto G...me and my friend both have this issue on X and G...the reminder sets 12 hours/12 and half hours in the past...so it seems to be a Google problem and i guess it has something to do with the time zone..
Me too have this problem on moto x. Mine is an Indian one.
When i say - remind me to check game in 20 mins, lets say the time is 7 40 pm, it displays correctly the time as 8 00 pm.. But when i say yes as confirmation, the page reloads with time as 7 20 am.
Tried with time setting as network and manual time.. Both has this issue..

I was able to create the problem with the voice confirmation of a reminder. My reminders step back one hour. I'm in the Mountain time zone, so it resets my time to Pacific time. If you are in Central time do you reset 2 hours? East time zone resetting 3 hours?
Edit: 'Set alarm for 1 pm today' works fine. It looks like just the reminders are messed up.
problem is...
Yes, the time is "set back" only once it reloads, and every time "google voice" has to reload it is "set back" again.
To me it is clear it is a google problem, likely a problem in the integration between "google voice" and "google calendar". Maybe?

UTC -3 here and the time is reset 4 hours.
And yes, the problem occurs after voice confirmation, but more precisely after google now refreshes the page.
Exact same issue
I believe this is a Google now issue and not specific to the device model.
I tested it out on my brother's Moto-X and also on two other Nexus 5 phones and the result was same, the reminder was set back by 12 hours and got set in the past.
From India, GMT +5:30.
Hopefully google resolves this bug soon.
It's also happening on my Galaxy S5. I have to add 3 hours to any spoken reminder request (EDT). Hopefully it gets resolved soon.
I had been waiting with bated breath for the Marshmallow update to arrive, mainly because of the expected addition of the "Until next alarm" setting to the "Do not disturb" feature, but woe to me, no such luck! "Do not disturb" doesn't seem to have changed at all from Lollipop, and there is no "Until next alarm" option to be seen anywhere. What's going on, T-Mobile and Samsung? I have a really hard time using my alarm clock without this feature. Every once in a while, I forget to disable "Do not disturb" after I get up and then walk around half a day incommunicado, wondering why no one calls me. This is ridiculous! Doesn't T-Mobile realize how freakin' important this feature is to people?
Does anyone know anything about this issue?
No reason to walk around with it in at day. You can set up your days and times.

Thanks, I am aware of this option and have already started using it, but it is terribly inefficient, as it requires me to go through about 20 clicks EVERY SINGLE night just to set up the alarm and the Do Not Disturb mode for the next day. And it is impossible for me to set it up in advance for every day of the week, as the time I go to bed and get up is never the same day to day. With the Until Next Alarm option, it takes only two clicks to activate Do Not Disturb.
Best Regards...
I set mine up once, checked the box "Turn on as scheduled"and never had to touch it again. Once 10pm, on the days I set up, hits the Do Not Disturb automatically turns on. Then at 7am it automatically goes off.

I never touch my Do Not Disturb. I use AlarmDroid for my alarm clock. It makes me do maths to turn it off in the morning. Annoying, but effective.
