Speaker Sounds Blown-Charge Port - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I jumped on the deal through Amazon, the phone is brand new. But the bottom speaker sounds a little tinny, not crisp. Also the charge port seems like the plug doesn't insert evenly.

If it was an open box or refurbished, send it back now before its too late. Chances are it has nothing to do with the rom/firmware and someone damaged both of those on the phone previously.
Edit: my mistake, I didnt read your original post fully. What firmware/rom are you running, and is there any equalizers or sound enhancement apps running?

My wife and I have both had Droid 4s since release day and aren't experiencing the issue.
I have had my droid 4 since the day it was released with no such problems. The only I can think that would cause speaker problems is if:
a) dust and gunk are getting stuck in the speaker
b) the connector for the speakers is becoming loose... do you ever try and clean around the edges of the phone, like in between the bezel and the frame? If so, you might be damaging a connector when you do so...
Other than that, maybe its a factory issue, it is a very thin top piece that holds the speaker and the screen, etc.
Hope this helps...

I started having this problem about 3 weeks ago and I've had my D4 for about 2 months.
Guess I need to call in for a replacement...what a pain. I used my OG Droid for almost 2 years without the need for a replacement. Then I picked up the D3 and went through about 6 phones in 6 months with a move to the D4 hoping things would be better.
What's the suck trick? My wife's is one day old and ear speaker sounds blown

suck trick
The suck trick is, if u suck on the speaker with your mouth it will temporarily fix the speaker.
Same issueI
I bought a Droid 4 two months ago and about within a month it started up with the same thing you are speaking of, a tinny, blown speaker sound coming from the ear piece. I did the whole sucking speaker deal and it would fix it , only to sound like junk again later. I returned it to Verizon, where they said that they had not heard of anyone else having the same problem, so Motorola sent me a "like new" Droid 4. I have had this phone for a month and just this morning it began with the blown speaker garbage again.
I looked more into it and read that it could be the glue which is holding the speaker in heats up and fails, causing the speaker to release from where it is seated and with that rattles, or vibrates, giving the effect of a blown speaker
This would make sense why by sucking into the speaker it stops, because you are basically popping it back into place temporarilly
Either way, I am returning this phone later today and plan on telling Verizon, I want a new one, not some "like new" refurbished piece of junk. I paid for a NEW phone, not one with problems motorola "fixed"
I hope all works out next, cause I really love the keyboard and could've gotten a Rzr for a few bucks more.
try running this app 2x times. once normally with the bol up and another time with the vol up during a call... fixed the sound for me

I believe this app is meant for the speaker on the phone, not the earpiece that people have problems with.

I just got a "like new" replacement phone for having the same problem. I had my phone for about five months before noticing a problem with the speaker. I had the same problem on four different DroidX phones. Verizon acted like it was such a big deal, and they'd never had any problems with the Droid4. The woman at the Verizon store tried to convince me that my Otter Box case was causing the problem. Verizon's customer service department is such a joke sometimes. So far so good with my replacement though.

if you make a call and run it it runs in the earpiece.
to clean it right
1wipe it off
2 clean it with a airduster if you got one
3 with a q tip and a little bit of alcohol
4 dry it than call you house and pick up the phone
5 than run the app incall 3x times
it should be good than
also in /settings/sound/speaker settings set it to custom turn off surround sound and turn the eq to bass punch or lower.

The speaker issues

Just to let you know it does seem to be device specific and some type of manufacture defect.
I took my phone in to the store where I got it here in the UK (Carphonewarehouse) and they too thought it was very low. They brought out another Nexus 5 and the sounds was A LOT louder.
They swapped it out then and there!
I now have a brand new Nexus 5 with great sound

yeah my co worker also has a nexus 5 and his speaker is also louder than mine. Beside the low speaker, my nexus is perfect no dead pixels, dust under the screen or loose power button. I am not going to chance doing an RMA. I hope we get a software fix from google soon about the sound.

You know you can send back the replacement unit if it's not better than your n5 now, right? You can choose to keep the one you already have.

I think Google is changing their policy where now they are wanting you to return your first, then they will sent out the replacement. I read couple of recently post on the RMA thread

Wow, crazy. I guess it was because there was a lot of RMA's. I was lucky I guess. I am able to continue using my device until my RMA device gets here in a week or so. And I was told I can deny it if it's no better. Anyway, maybe it's worth a call to see if you're eligible to do the same. Good luck.

(headphone jack issue) Should I keep the New nexus 6 or the refurbished!!??

So I got a brand spanking new Nexus 6 and right out of the box I had a issue where it thought the headphones were in, I wiped it flashed stock ROM and custom ROM still happened, called in for warranty and tmobile sent me a refurbished one that clearly had the screen replaced cause you could still see the plastic under the glass. Well last night the brand new one stopped doing it and is now working flawlessly, I'm thinking about keeping the new one and calling them and telling them nevermind but do you think it will happen again?? Should I just keep the referb?

Yikes this is one of those things that's best left up to you BUT since you are asking lol. IMO I would keep the new one seeing that it's brand new, not sure how visible/or even as to why there is plastic under the glass but it would bother the crap out of me knowing the screen at one point had to be replaced for whatever reason. Again this is just my personal opinion

Motorola can't build phones. Every nexus 6 has static through the headphone jack. If someone says there's doesn't. They aren't using the headphone jack or they are def. Mine has done it from day one and the only way around it for me was to install a Bluetooth receiver in my truck and my home receivers. Hate this hpone but stuck with it for another year. I'm
I use the headphone jack frequently and am certainly not deaf. I haven't encountered any static, so perhaps I'm simply lucky.

I'm in the same boat, that makes 2 lucky people lol
I've never heard of that issue before, but I've never had that problem myself. I just a corded pair of earphone. No bluetooth.
This might sound crazy but it worked for me with a similar issue with the headphone jack controlling my volume/speakers - blow into the jack to clean it out. A bit of debris in the jack had mine acting crazy for a few weeks.
I would actually be furious if I were to receive a defective device that I PAID for and when I notify the carrier they go and send out a replacement that's refurbished? What kind of bs is that, either you send me a brand new replacement or refund me the money. I would've given T-Mobile hell over the phone
Dont have static headphones. I have static speakers tho. Yes, these phones are built pretty bad lol.
perhaps check if the headphone jack is clean or try cleaning it.

Audio only from top speaker

Hi, I've been using a galaxy s6 but wanted to try the Nexus 6 since has stock Android and bigger screen. But... audio like You Tube, Play movies, Music, everything comes from top speaker grill, not both, I thought this phone has stereo speakers. Is it like that by default or would I have to replace the bottom speaker? Also I can't get text messages notification, always quiet no matter which sound I choose. I get phone ringtones and media but not messages tone. I'm stock right now but was doing same thing with PureNexus rom. Thanks.
If you just got it return it. This is a problem with some N6 phones along with static during calls. I had to return mine about a year ago for both. The new phone has been perfect.

I got it on craigslist and can't get a hold of the guy either, I'll learn from this one. Thought about trying to fix it since parts are kind of cheap and it seemed it's not that hard taking it apart. Thank you for responding.
I get this issue on my N6 sometimes. A restart would fix the issue. I don't know if it's the same case with yours.

Thanks, I've restarted my phone numerous times and nothing.

Can some one who has the new xz2 get back to me.

Missus has the phone and when the SIM tray is removed and put back in it sometimes doesn't go back in properly. Looks like there is something small like a small bit of plastic stuck out by the entry hole has anyone else got this.

I don't think it should effect it as the system will still say you have the contract out which is the main thing there worried about just ask them at the store but I honestly cannot see a problem
I have the ps4 on the deal too but if there was a fault with the phone I'd soon take it back

No it was actually the information label folded over abit. I thought it may have been as Sony phones always seem to have them but didn't won't to go pulling it if it was something bad.
What I cannot understand is why there is no double tap to wake or always on display or something like that.
