I just received my nexus 4 yesterday and immediately noticed that there was a gap between the bezel and side of the phone. This gap is only on the left side of the phone and is directly below the volume rocker. This phone came like this right out of the box.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?
Mines fine. Get a bumper and you won't notice either.

So you are suggesting that I get a $20 accessory to cover up an issue that shouldn't have been there in the first place...
You will probably tell me i'm holding it wrong next.

My nexus plastic squeak when pressures on the bottom & randomly screen turns on for no reason.
Even with those issue I rather have it still than replace it. ATM since there's huge demand.

My N4 doesn't have this issue.
Get an RMA.
I would defiantly get a replacement... looks like someone dropped it!
You can ask Google to let you keep the device until a replacement arrives.

My fault... I wasn't trying to be rude either, even though I was.
I'm just a bit dumbfounded by everyone's reaction to devices having issues right out of the box. It is sad when a device is so in demand that customers become accustom to issues.
I hope that Google can resolve this issue quickly.

I think I read somewhere that they have available Nexus 4's set aside specifically for RMA. A plus is you can keep your phone till you get the new one.

I just called Google and they're issuing me a replacement. The only downside is there's going to be a Nexus 4 hold charge on my credit card.
That aside the procedure is they're going to sent me a device and I'll suppose to return my device when i received it.
Lol, people can easily abuse the RMA by RMA a issue-free Nexus 4 device and selling it/get another.

Great when trying to process my RMA I get an error

That isn't an option. If you look at the pictures I posted, the plastic next to the volume rocker is actually pushed out about 1mm. If it was still sitting flush with the bezel then I would probably could have just pushed it in.
I wonder what would happen if I kept this RMA phone lol. 299$ no shipping hmm not bad deal.

Old defect nexus 4 gets remotely deactivated when you start using new phone. It is specially mentioned on Google support website that Google may deactivate defective/stolen phones remotely.
But this can't be true until someone take a risk of 350 bucks and blacklist their own Google account. Mind you Google orders are with Google account, if we don't follow their rules we maybe forced to give them up.

O **** i see it in the picture. Return it!!!! I gotta go check my nexus for the gap right now!
Well after ordering on the 13th during the first 15 minutes and being a Limbo Level 3 got my Nexus 4 and this happens
On hold for the last 30 minutes
Edit
There are two issues, one is the buzzing when not on call and the other is the borked up earpiece (maybe less than mine).
I didn't have the buzzing when there were no calls being made but I think the issue I have is an extension of the buzzing issue and is in all probability a manufacturing defect.
They make such an awesome device with bad hardware, Google would be crying
the old device directly goes to LG USA as I can see from my RMA return label so my personal advice to all those who have issue while in call please RMA the device.

Yeah I hate the way they do rma's at Google. Why not just charge you if you don't return the old one in a certain amount of time like most other companies? Is it your fault you got a bad one? No!

Thanks Ryan, lets hope I get a new one which is fine soon, I am happy that the one that I sent to John aka VT is good, the moment I found the f**king issue in my phone I emailed him to check his and his is fine, as I ordered 2 and assuming they both were from the same manufacturing lot I guess it's a bug in LG's assemble line
Good luck. Mine makes a very slight nose from the earpiece speaker. It kinda sounds like the soc doing it's thing. I imagine it's fairly normal. I don't have any sounds like you. I feel bad for you because we waited so long and now you got a dud. The one good thing about Google's method of RMA is you can use the old one as much as you like before getting the new. What I don't understand is they have our cc info on file and they still insist on holding the funds. You won't have to pay tax or shipping again though. I had to go through it twice with my nexus 7 so I know how bad it was.
At the same time I do understand why they do it because people could just file an RMA and take off with both devices by removing the card from wallet.
Anyway, I'm sure everything will work out for you. You are good people and I look up to your kindness bro.

I have heard and I don't know if its true but I remember hearing that you can send in your faulty device then when they receive it they will send you a new one. I'd look into that cause that s just not OK to hold you at bay because you don't have additional funds for there f*ck up.

I've had zero issues with my N4, actually I love it! Only issue is the screen gets hot but that's expected.

This phone should be recalled and we should all get new revised hardware with no issues and usb otg working. Fking ridiculous. I doubt my replacement will be any better and that's why i'm keeping the first phone until replacement arrives.
i've got same problem, although mine is not as severe. Most interesting part is that when I use google talk or skype, this problem does not exist, and it seems to come up only when making regular phone calls!
So my replacement nexus 4 was suppose to be delivered on Monday. Around noon monday, I check the tracking which said it had been delivered...except I was home all morning and no package was delivered. I waited a few hours, figuring it was some kind of mistake with the tracking.
Then, I called UPS and they confirmed that it had been delivered at the stated time. I immediately called google and explained the situation. They were very understanding and started the process of disabling the lost device and issuing me a new one.
However, later that evening, my neighbour rang the bell and had the package in his hand....he had just come back from work and found it sitting at his front door (arghhh UPS ). At this point I hadn't yet received the e-mail from google with the link to order another replacement, so I figured I would call them to let them know that I had found the device. The rep told me that she would send the request to the department that handles lost/stolen device, but it was most likely already too late. She said she would keep me posted on the situation by e-mail.
Today, I still haven't received the e-mail with the link to order the new replacement, and the device is working fine (I assume if they disable it, it would lock me out or something). So I e-mailed the aforementioned rep and explained this to her. She e-mailed back saying that they had already disabled the device and given me a full refund, and that I would have to reorder the device...wtf On top of that she made no mention of returning this device (But I did go ahead and mail back the original phone today).
The phone is still working fine and my credit card doesn't show any refund (though this may be due to the fact that they haven't yet processed the refund....just my guess). Oh and still no e-mail to order the replacement, but I'm assuming since they are apparently issuing a refund, they expect me to place a whole new order?
What do you guys think? Is this just a big miscommunication between the various departments at google? Did they indeed stop the disabling of the device (which would explain why the device is still working)? But then why would the rep tell me I need to reorder the device. Man, this is just a big mess......and the funny part is, this device has the same earpiece buzzing problem for which I did the RMA lol.

They said once they remote disable the device it will basically become a paperweight. I have no idea of exactly what they do. Can anyone shed some light on this? BTW phone still works.
Why would anyone hold up their phones to their ears when it is not on or even on a phone call??!
is this like the "if I shake my phone real hard, I can hear something rattling inside" complaint?
I can't believe you mailed the phone back before even receiving the e-mail with the link to get the next RMA unit. If I were you I would have kept the phone until it either stopped working or you placed the next RMA order and had the next replacement in hand.
Now who knows when you will get your hands on another N4. Looks like you are in a whole new limbo period.

I think what they do is void the ESN on the device rendering it unusable as a carrier cannot activate a bad ESN.

I can clearly hear the buzzing while on a call on both the original and the replacement phone, and it's really annoying. Obviously if I could not hear it in a call, it would be a non-issue.

I mailed back the original phone that I ordered on Nov 13, not the replacement. The rep said that I had to mail back the original right away to avoid being charged for it. Like I said, the replacement phone is working fine (except for the buzz lol) and so far as I can tell, they have not "disabled" the device in any way yet. Even if they do, I have a perfectly fine HTC one S sitting here that I have no problem using.
Sucks man, sorry. I would've tried to keep that thing as long as I could. As far as the buzzing, seems like all these devices have a shielding or grounding issue which is causing the noise in the ear piece. My first phone which I got from TMobile (I love 30 day return policy ) had a pretty bad electrical/modem sound that was actually very distracting while in a call. The new device which I just received yesterday from El Goog doesn't have this defect, but does have the sound of an active earpiece at all times. Hardly an issue. The previous device sounded really bad over VOIP and calls never sounded as good as with the new one. Best to be patient and satisfied rather than hasty and regretful
Good luck man!!

So I just got an e-mail from another rep saying that they were able to stop the deactivation of the device. lol. No wonder why the phone has been working all along. I think I'm just going to sell the phone since I don't want to go through this whole RMA process again, and it does seem like this buzzing happens on all nexus 4s. I'll probably order one again once these issues have been worked out. In the mean time, I think I can get by just fine with the HTC one s that I picked up brand new for $100 last week

Just FYI also, I have had no buzzing whatsoever. So it seems new batches may not suffer from this?
I just noticed I can see PM up on the top right side of the screen and some notifications in the top left corner during full screen apps, especially with a full grey screen. I didn't see those a couple hours ago when I got it.
Did I seriously just burn in my screen already? Is this normal for a "new" One? Or should I be freaking out?
I did nothing out of the ordinary since I got it. Just rooted it, restored apps, put it on the charger for a bit. That's all.

Yea,i agree, take it back and make them replace it,it should last longer than 24 hours, wether you flash it or not,im upgrading to this from the EVO 4G,in 2 months, but it will be a new one, hahaha,i just cant wait,so i can start to dev for the One now and maybe port over my 4 kornerz rom.
I would take it back as well.
Also, pay attention to the screen. In my One, the speakers busted (same as my OG Evo, Evo 3D and Hero. Htc makes ****ty speakers) I also have a dead pixel so I filed an insurance claim. Today I received the new One and the display is garbage. The whites look dingy and yellow like a cheaper version. It doesn't compare at all to my current One.
I'm gonna send it back and try my luck again =\

Nope. You're lucky then because HTC speakers are cheap and it isn't just me who says so. Here is a quick google search but you can dig deeper and see for yourself. I never really cared because replacing the speaker was easy...but with the HTC One it is a repair nightmare.

I'll halfway attempt to break it down, but I doubt you'll understand.
There are people who break down how difficult it would be for the average consumer to do things such as repairs for these phones (hint:ifixit). The average consumer isn't gonna own all the tools/equipment or possess the knowledge/skill as a professional. This is true in probably everything you'll ever get repaired, otherwise mechanics have been ripping people off for years.
This phone scores as low as possible when it comes to repairs. It doesn't mean that professionals can't repair it. Ifixit isn't gonna breakdown how easy it is for HTC or other phone repair people, why the *@*! would anyone care about that? They are breaking it down for the not so skilled.

I got my phone replaced once already as well, but Sprint said they DO NOT use refurbished phones as replacements until the phone has been released for 6 months.
But what was odd is that my replacement phone didn't come with a box, so I dialed ##786# and checked the "reconditioned status" which stated "none." I wonder if this replacement is not a refurb, then why did it come with no box?

Sprint doesn't handle it, Asurion does. They'll tell you it could be new or refurbished. It all depends on what they have. Both of mine came with a box, but that doesn't mean they're new.
I'm about to send ny second replacement back. The screen is just too yellow and dingy looking. It's a damn shame I have to file an insurance claim and pay a deductible on a month old phone.

To update, my 2nd refurb seemed nice enough. But after having it a couple days, I've noticed the screen colors are pretty blown out and definitely not like it should be. Colors are as funky as they can be, and the screen itself is way too bright. And for insult to injury, the phone is unable to connect to 4G LTE. So back to Sprint I go!

Its kinda sad to hear that although htc stepped up their game, sprints/asurions refurbs are still absolute sh!t
So, let me start by saying that I HAVE read around and there is a lot of talk about this issue here on xda, a lot of people have sent their Nexus 6 phones in to be replaced and it's a common issue! However, was anyone ever able to come up with the conclusion of it either being software or hardware based? I noticed mine does this more when the battery gets lower leading me to believe it's software related, however, I have hear speculation that the hardware is faulty. Anyone know the true answer to this question? Thanks!

im going to assume its hardware based. since my n6 doesnt have any hissing or crackling, and if software mine would have it as well, since we have the same software.

Damn, I guess a lot of people had this issue, most people who own this device have said this is happening to them, few have said theirs is fine. It's a minor annoyance, but for the hefty price tag and what I paid for mine, it's very disappointing. Does the 6p or 5x have this issue? Or not sure? They're made by different companies so I assume they don't.

I dont have this issue unless I try to use things like Viper which I removed as it really didnt do enough to justify the extra static.
As for the 6p and 5x they have other issues.
No hissing or crackling from the speakers on my N6. And I don't think we can say most people that own this device have said they've experienced this issue.

Do you or anyone in this thread know if Google would replace a device that I've had for 7 months? What's the terms on this?
This is a refurbished replacement or new replacement N6 you've had for 7 months?

Then it's still under warranty and you should be able to get it replaced. I had a couple issues with my N6 and I got a brand new phone 10 days after I received RMA confirmation.

So just flashing a stock image and locking the bootloader should be good then? I have a lot of mods on mine.

Yeah, that's what I did. Don't think Google cares about unlocked boitloader but I locked it just in case.

Thanks! I just hope my next one doesn't have this issue if I go through with this. A lot of people said they went through 3 or 4 of these phones until they got one without this issue, also, they send a brand new one right? I don't want a refurbished one.

They should send you a new N6 if they have the same color and storage, but I've heard about some receiving refurbished phone with issues and then getting a new N6 after talking to customer servicece rep.

I called their support and asked about it, he says he "you don't wanna troubleshoot it first?" And I said "not really, I've tried EVERYTHING even reflashing stock firmware!" And then he tells me that it WOULD be a refurbished model, not a new one. Umm no, I paid full price for mine when it came out!

By the way, fizz1041 is me, don't know why Tapatalk posted with that name, but it's me.

Might want to try Motorola for RMA. They have an option to get the replacement N6 before mailing them the defective phone.

It seems to me that the crackling has to do with voltage...
Like the crackling occurs as the battery starts to quit because it thinks there's more voltage available than really is... And as I start to put 2 + 2 together... It seems to be exasperated by using the "high performance" toggle in the kernel
