I can't edit studio.exe file in Android Stuido 1.3 - Android Studio

I'm running Android Studio 1.3 (I think it was the latest version) in a 4GB RAM pc, I've searched about how to make Android Studio take less memory so that I can run it better in my low spec pc, so far I've found the following questions in the website StackOverflow:
***android-studio-is-very-slow***
and
***android-studio-takes-too-much-memory***
In those question people suggested to low the memory value in the `Xmx` attribute from `750m` to `256m` in the studio.exe vmoptions file the folder `/Applications/Android\ Studio.app/Contents/bin/studio.vmoptions` I looked in the offcial documentation here: and there it says that is not recomended to edit those files, they advice to create a custom file, but I don't know how to do this.
Questions:
1) Should I create a whatever.exe vmoptions file in that folder with the change? and what should I do with the original file? and how android studio would know to read from my custom file instead of the original file.
2) In the official documentation says that edit that file but it says that that file is in this path `%USERPROFILE%\.{FOLDER_NAME}\studio.exe.vmoptions and/or %USERPROFILE%\.{FOLDER_NAME}\studio64.exe.vmoptions` but I can't find the file in that path, instead i founded in this path `/Applications/Android\ Studio.app/Contents/bin/studio.vmoptions`.
What I did before asking:
Before asking i tried to edit this file `/Applications/Android\ Studio.app/Contents/bin/studio.vmoptions` but it says that this file is already opened by another program or that it can't be saved.
I did this with android studio closed and I pretty sure that this file it's not opened by another program.

Cooking a rom...

Hi, I followed the thread: "How to reconstruct a dumped ROM"... (obviously I had, before, did a rom dump!). Now I have a directory named "dump" with several subdirs.
In the step 3) there is written: "After this step you can optionally edit the OS files with the proper tools"... now the question is: what are these proper tools? I searched in the forum, in the other threads but I didn't find anything... My needs are: to delete some programs that are in the rom (for example Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, other..) in order to obtain more space, but to install other tools at the free space.
Thanks in advance for your help....
Great question ! i can't help you , but i wait for answers ....
I asked the same thing the other day, and got an answer(thx again to him).
Actually, I'm doing it right now, as a test I've successfuly dumped and rebuilt lsvw's rom using enhanced imgfs tools batch files, nbdump.bat nbname.nb & nbbuild nbname.nb, now I'm removing files from the rom and maybe add some other, like that quick gps thingy, latest msn(optimized for trinity, removed vga resources), phone pad, and some other thing on my custom extrom.
I had the same doubt as you, but it seems that we're overcomplicating things, you can simply use the file explorer to remove files from that dir, beware of which files you remove/alter.. initflashfiles.dat has some operations to be done after flashing the device(creating folders, renaming files, moving them to startup/start menu/etc folders), I thought that if the file didn't exist on the windows folder, whatever invoques initflashfiles.dat would crash, but it doesn't seem to be the case, I haven't put this to test, but I've found several missing files on the initflashfiles.dat(and a typo, "floder", go figure what it means - lazy/rushed editing IMO), so there seems to be some tolerance to the operations contained in that file.
I won't edit the wiki until I'm 100% sure that what I know is correct, but to sum it up:
dump the files
add/delete files with explorer
edit the registry using rgucomp
edit initflashfiles.dat using the original windows notepad & use an hexeditor to remove the 1st 2 bytes
run NBBuild.bat to create the *.nb file
OSchecker.exe to validate the *.nb file
nbhtool.exe to create the nbh
flash it(I prefer the sd card method)
Code:
rgucomp needs setting _FLATRELEASEDIR environment variable to current directlry like this:
set _FLATRELEASEDIR=.
Dump default.hv/user.hv file to .reg with:
rgucomp.exe -nologo -o default.hv > default.reg, then add line "REGEDIT4" to the beginning of REG file.
Modify the .reg file to your liking, (save it in UTF-16 with CR+LF terminations and a new line at the end of the file) and convert it back to .hv
And don't forget to flash Olipro's Hard SPL before, it may save your device.
"and convert it back to .hv"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1186635&postcount=1
(no wonder I didn't find this info, forum search is almost useless, googled for rgucomp and voilĂ , first result(above) right answer)

Optional File Explorer????

Does anyone remember way back there was a rom released that had a custom file explorer. It was just an exe file and it allowed you to delete things that the standard and resco file explorer wouldn't allow you to do....I know it was included in one of the WM5 roms and the single file was posted for download. I lost my HDD on my cpu and have been trying to locate what I remember. I cannot find this file. I know that if you copied it to the windows directory it would completely replace the built in file explorer.....
Anyone know where to find this???? I have searched but can't seem to locate it....
This File Explorer.exe allowed you to delet things from the rom...I thought it was part of a Dr. Putt rom a year ago or so....

.arm file help

hey guys im really sorry for creating this thread but I downloaded a .arm file to my comp and i synced to my tilt and my tilt wont open the file. how do i open a .arm file on my tilt? sorry for the n00b question. I searched google and no answer so i was hoping my fellow tilt brothers would help out a guy in the process of learning.
As far as I know .arm is not any format native to Windows Mobile / PPC applications.
Generally, when installing software on your device it will come in one of three forrmats:
1) .CAB file - This is like a specially designed zip file which you transfer to your device and run from your device. It contains all the information to install the files in the necessary locations, and generally also creates the proper shortcuts/icons.
2) .EXE file (PPC format) - This is an executable file for your PPC. It will only run on your PPC. If you try to run this from windows you will get an error (something like "not a valid win32 application"). This is what generally gets extracted from the .CAB file aboved and gets placed somewhere on your PPC.
3) .EXE file (Windows format) - This is a normal windows .EXE file and is generally a windows based installer for the program, much like a normal installation program for any Windows PC. When you run it, it often will place a .CAB file onto your device (or into the ActiveSync queue) to be installed. this type of EXE must be run from Windows XP/Vista itself and won't launch on the PPC directly.
If you are downloading a file different from the above from a vendor, they probably also provide instructions. I have not seen any program come in a format other than the above (unless they were also compressed with ZIP or RAR and needeed uncompressing first).
here is what the ext arm could mean
http://filext.com/file-extension/arm
but it could also be that you use some odd filemanager like file explore which dont show the right extentions and the file was called blabla.arm.cab
and explore is hiding the cab
use total commander
That does make sense. A lot of cabs for the arm architecture are called for example netcf.arm.cab. If you aren't using a good file explorer you are not gonna see the file extension. Do your note shoe note.pwi?
Are you sure it's .arm & not .amr? .amr is a media type file.
I find large file extension database here http://www.file-extensions.org

After Downloading @ HD7 where can I find download flie?

Hello,
I would like to know how can I find the downloaded files in HTC HD7 with WP7?
I have downloaded files from my hotmail.
It says downloading when download is finish,I can't open the file.
WP said Can't open attachment.
(There's no application associated with this file type)
I'd like to know where this downloaded attached files saved in phone.
I looked for the files by using TouchXplorer but I can't make it at all.
I have Registry Editor, TouchXplorer and my OS version is 7389.
Can someone give me an idea?
Thank in advance!
i think that file can't be accepted with wp7.
yes Ttblondey ,
I am trying to install .ttf , wp7 can't accepted.
But the download was finished.
I wonder if I can find this downloaded file.
I have chance to move to Windows\Fonts folder
The system does not work that way. Once you download an attachment, it gets stored by Outlook in some encrypted, hidden file somewhere that can only be accessed through the e-mail app. If the phone can't read it, then you are pretty much out of luck.
You are not meant to have file system access, so WP7 works very differently than a computer with file system access. Opening files that the OS does not support is not something you can do... yet.

Sent from my GT-I9000
Thank for all your advice.
I attached as a txt file to hotmail.
It saved as to the office hab. By using TouchXplorer, I found my text file under Document Folder. I changed file extension to .ttf.
Copy & paste at Windows\Fonts
can't do yet to change fonts in WP OS , still trying

[Q] Where does file created by fopen() resides ?

In Windows Phone 8 Runtime component (C++/CX) we can use fopen or CreateFile2 to create/open a file. For example
Code:
fopen("hello.txt", "w");
You see, I don't explicitly specify any path. And I can't figure out where this hello.txt resides? It can't be in Installed Location, and it isn't in Local Folder. Where is it?
Well, you could try the following:
_fileno() to get the integer file descriptor from the FILE*
_get_osfhandle() to get the Win32 HANDLE from the fd
GetFileInformationByHandleEx() to get the file name from the HANDLE.
I *think* those are even all supported on WP8, though I haven't checked except for the last one.
APIs like GetFullPathName() would make it easy, but may not be supported. CreateFile2 would let you skip the first two APIs in that list, if it works.
I inspected the WP8 .vhd file, and saw that my file was created in the Install folder. It looks like native code does not conform to the rule (Install folder is read-only location)
Whaaaaaat?!? That's... um. Serious. I'll look into it.

Are you sure it does not create it on the root of the isolated storage space? That's rather unexpected to have the file in a read-only folder...
The install location is read/write to the app.
What
the
hell?
I can send test code if anybody wants, but it's easy enough to check yourself. You don't even need native code to do it, the .NET APIs work well enough.
I am somewhat confused.

You can create a simple project to test this. In the C++ WP Runtime Component project, just use fopen or CreateFile2
Then use Hyper-V manager and Disk Management to easily inspect the WP .vhd file (I'm using Emulator)
You can use some things like IsoStoreSpy to see that the newly created file does not reside in the Local Folder (in WP8, they rename Isolated Storage to Local Folder)
I wrote a small app to test it; I can share the source if you want. It's really simple. I used the native APIs to create the file and write to it, then used the managed APIs to confirm it was there and read it, then used the native APIs to delete it, and the managed ones to confirm it was gone. Very simple. I then used the managed APIs to create the file myself (await Package.Current.InstalledLocation.CreateFileAsync("hello.txt")) and it worked.
Have you tried to create a xap file in the Install folder and reboot?
My 8X is freezing after creating a xap...
@spikedviper: No, I haven't tried anything like that. I don't seem to have write access from my app to the folder where pre-installed / OEM XAPs reside.
I did try editing the manifest; I was able to edit it with no problems but changing the capabilities didn't *do* anything, so I'm pretty sure it's still only parsed at install time.
hm...so what is the default path if no path specified?
looks like it stores it here: ms-appdata:///Local/ anyway check out "Data for Windows Phone" at msdn
