I wanted to get talks going again about rooting the Rogers Dream with SPL 1.33.0010. Not all of us are comfortable with the JTAG method. So far, the following doesn't work:
Fastboot
Goldcard
Flashrec
So does anybody have any other thoughts? I've contacted Haykuro to see if he's still interested.

JTAG works.
Don't be a freekin wuss.
I, too don't want to JTAG my Dream.
Hope someone can find a way to get rid of this mess mandatory update.
Nope. Likely not going to happen, and I'll tell you why:
Those who potentially have the ability to figure out a way around this very minor annoyance withOUT resorting to JTAG (assuming that such a feat is even possible), most definitely already have the skills necessary to implement the JTAG solution, which means that there is ZERO MOTIVATION for them. As a result, anyone who wants to fix a robbers-crippled phone will have to use a JTAG, which, BTW, is a FULLY SOFTWARE SOLUTION since there is ZERO MODIFICATION REQUIRED. A USB cable, RS232 cable, or a uSD card is no less hardware or more software than a JTAG solution. Its just a question of what kind of wire you attach to the thing and where.
Rogers magics have done it. I read it somewhere in the Sapphire section (however, most people there are 32a.)
lbcoder,
Trust me, I do have the skills to do the JTAG method. Interrupting the processor to load codes into memory to bypass checks and manually launch processes is no different than using an old Game Genie on a SNES to force memory values.
However, I'm in a situation where I have a free damage / water replacement on this phone. Basically, come November I can drown it and get a free replacement. As well, I have no money available to invest in the small electronic parts to build my JTAG.
I probably will be getting a new phone come August anyways, but this discussion is to discuss other methods out of curiousity. Just because JTAG is a good option, doesn't mean JTAG is the only option.
I appreciate your opinion, but don't get on my case because I don't want to go down that route.

Or.. run it over with a car. You think they can tell if its been taken apart after that?

You don't have $2?
Well... I guess if your wireless provider is robbers, that would explain why you're so poor.

It is a PRACTICAL, EFFECTIVE, and INEXPENSIVE option.
Today I bricked my captivate and tried various methods to try to unbrick it.
But looks like it is really bricked and was wondering if RIFF JTAG would help
http://www.jtagbox.com/?s=captivate
They seem to have added support for captivate today itself. So not sure how many folks would have used it to unbrick captivate, but in general has anyone used the RIFF jtag to unbrick any phone?
Or has any one used the JTAG to unbrick captivate?
Interesting find. I have very little experience with JTAG so can't really help but I am curious to know what you find out. Keep us posted.
I too have truely bricked my captivate. Quite upsetting but I have been wondering about these options as well
Me too, Me too, Mines bricked from bad bootloader, I can't get anything to show up, not even the (phone --- ! --- PC) thing.
Found a forum that people have successfully unbricked with the JTAG, but I have yet to get in touch with any of them to see if I can get them to unbrick mine for me.
If anyone is willing to do this, I'd be willing to pay some $ for it, I don't trust my soldering skills, or I'd buy the JTAG and attempt it myself.
Thanks!
- Greg C.
I was skeptical at first, but when I saw the device itself and its specifications I can believe it does what it says for sure. Would be interested to know how much it costs though. Has anybody inquired as to its cost yet, by chance?
It costs $150 US including delivery. Tempting...
No JIG no JTAG

You guys don't need JTAG.. If you don't wanna mess around with soldering and Jig, try the method in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889128
Takes a little time but cheap and no soldering or breaking a usb cord required..
Tried that resistor trick, didn't work on my bricked phone, but it did work on my replacement.
I'd love to get my brick working again so my fiancee can have it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
And it does work, there is a JTAG forum that one particular person has unbricked over 20 phones, a few of which were Captivates

Ricky, you think I'd spend $150 if it only fixed Captivates when I can easily fix it with a jig on a soft brick? It advertises that it can unbrick most modern phones including Androids and Iphone. That is tempting, imo.

If a Jig doesn't fix it, i'd sell my Captivate for parts rather than a JTag
Hey, I'm in Belgium and can unbrick model you want...
Most of cases you do not need a JTAG. You may want to try a jig first.

I own a RIFF BOX!
Hi there!. Any members that are having this same issue please contact me if you need help. I own a RIFF box and have succesfully unbricked several now.
I am in Madison, WI USA. If members need unbricking i will do it for very inexpensive. Cover shipping and a pack of smokes. I own a cell/computer repair business and I am legitimate so no worries there. I can also give anyone the guerst login to our security camerasa if you would like to see the shop our the reassurance you will get your phone back alive and kickin.
Just wanna do something for the forum community that has helped me out so much mastering the Droid world.
According to:
http://www.htc.com/us/go/htc-software-updates/
The update for One mini is getting pushed to customers.
If there is a brave soul wishing to port this, I might have something to help you along.
I have the JTAG pinout for HTC First, which will enable de-bricking of our phones, should it occur. However I damaged my RIFFBox while probing this phone (due to design mistake in the RIFFBox), and now I don't have a working probe. I asked the RIFFBox developer to exchange my JTAG box in exchange for the pinout and a dump from my phone, but the a$$holes said they will not because the JTAG box somehow makes me rich and it should be a good investment for me. When I explained to them that I don't do phone repairs for a living, but rather making modifications as a hobby, they were like "too bad". Long story short, they took the dump from my phone, but never gave me a new JTAG box. I didn't give them the JTAG pinout though. Sooo. I think because I personally invested into figuring out the pinout for this phone, I thought it would be fair if we get a fundraiser going for me to buy a new JTAG box or some other similar functioning logic probe. Just to be clear, my JTAG still works, but logic probe does not (a separate feature). I suppose if anyone wants to donate a high speed digital oscilloscope, that will do also. In return I make the pinout public. I might make it public anyway, but I thought I'd ask for contribution first.
Yes, I tested my pinout, I already changed the IMEI on my HTC First. I have the pinout diagrams made, as I was expecting the RIFFBox developer to come through with help to me, but they did not.
Anyone interested in this help-me-help-you-help-us-all?

Did you ever find a fix to this issue? I am literally in the exact same boat as you and cannot get any of them unlocked.
Hi this has my head pickled
So I picked up this phone yesterday as mine broke
Its a decent phone I like it however I want too flash Havoc on too it,
Seems that the manufacturer has decided too stop giving out unlock codes for the boot loader
DC - unlocker is what I found my device is on the list of supported devices however its not in the list telling you how many credits you need too buy too unlock the bootloader which doesent exactly fill me with confidence..
Furthermore you can buy a 3 day license for DC unlocker which is like $50 dollars or something but obviously the above concerns me a little plus even if I was willing too take the chance I think 50 bucks for a 3 year old Phone that im gunna be using for only maybe a few months is a bit steep (Im a student)
So what im asking is this, Does anyone know of a better way or even better a free way of getting this damn code ? Tbh ive always begrudged paying for the privilage of modding a device ive already paid for however I accept reality
Or does anyone have a generator for the code perhaps I can paypal u for the code?
I dunno anyway here is my device details
Any help would be greatly apreciated..
There's a cheaper paid service that gives good result but I am unallowed to cite here due to XDA's forum policy. PM me for more info.
(@ moderators : it is okay to give that info in PM, isn't it ?)
