Confusion, i9000 - bootloader, modem, Omnirom 5.5.1 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there. Forgive me, but I'm new here.
Some time ago I flashed my i9000 with CyanogenMod, which means I obviously had to unlock the bootloader and install CWM recovery. The problem is I've forgotten alot,
Do roms have modems with them, or do I need to do that myself? Which i9000 modem is best for the UK? Reception is poor under CyanogenMod. I was planning to flash an unofficial build of Omnirom 5.5.1 for the i9000, does this include the latest modem files?
I've tried looking for TWRP but I'm unable to find it, I was planning to replace CWM.
What about the bootloader, is this included in Omnirom or do I need to find that too?
I apologize.

Only some roms comes with modem files. Omni has modem files in the zip. So u can flash
Its better flash any kitkat first
Eg: slimkat
Then flash omni. Because directly flashing the lollipop may not work or you will lose baseband
Ok good luck

Hey, i have done some hunting around but have not found anything. I am looking for a compatible firmware version that will allow me to flash a custom rom. i have tried a few roms for this phone but all came up saying that its not the right firmware. Is there anyone that has successfully flashed this firmware and running a custom rom. Mainly looking at cyanogenmod, or a 4.4 version that is stable with full functionality

Have you actually rooted the phone so you can load custom roms?

Post does not make sense .
firmware does not flash a custom rom and plays no part in the custom rom you choose .
The only difference is in network access where you may need to change modem .

[Q] question regarding modem for india

i recently bought a galaxy note in india. i want to flash a kitkat rom such as asylum omni. do i have to flash a modem for india seperately after flashing the rom? i once flashed a rom in my galaxy s 2 and it didnt get any network reception after that, even after flashing many modems. i am realy afraid that i might render my note useless if i flash a rom again.. please advise.. thanks
The AOSP/CM roms you want to flash doesnot come with a modem. So it utilizes the modem installed previously. If you are on the DDLSC rom then the modem you should have is DDLS6. After flashing Kitkat, it will remain DDLSC unless changed manually.
Just after rooting, first thing you should do is backup EFS.

[Q] Help request with network reception after flashing a custom ROM.

Hi All,
Since this is my first post, my name is Robin and my hobbies are house music, playing the guitar and video games. nice to meet you!
I require some help with flashing a custom rom to my Samsung Galaxy S Advance (GT-I9070).
My goal is to have custom Rom working. The reason to change from stock 2.3.6. to a custom Rom is that is has become too slow and unresponsive to work with. I have changed to CM11 and then to Carbon Rom, and really like it, but both have a problem with reception. This is why i post it here, i don't think it is related to just a single Rom but to my phone in general.
I tried the following:
1. Gain root access through Odin. (baseband was originally I9700XXLK2, Dutch, carrier Tele2, which uses T-mobile network. not sure if the telephone was locked to this carrier).
2. flash TWRP using Odin.
3. download CM11 and google apps and flash it using TWRP.
4. no signal and com.phone.android stopped working every minute, as well as slow response when pressing power button.
5. flashed carbon rom, same problems.
6. went to xda-devs on irc for help, a nice guy explained to me that the problem likely resides in baseband.
7. downloaded the newest stock firmware for T-mobile in the netherlands from sammobile, extracted the modem.bin,md5 (after backing up efs and modem by help of the xda-dev on irc) and flashed it through odin as PDA after creating a tar file out of mode.bin.md5 ( by command tar -H ustar -c modem.img > modem2.tar)
8. Now the problems are gone except for the fact that i still have no reception! and baseband under settings --> phone is "smallband: unknown"!
Does anyone know of a solution to my problem? I wish to get reception. Did i not flash t he new modem image right?

You must flash stock JB to get its baseband to be able to use 4.1+ ROMs. If you have I9070, beware not to install I9070P firmware, because that will hardbrick your phone.
You can get firmware from samsung-updates.com or sammobile.com and look in general section for rest of guides, you have one thread with most needed stuff.

Help with changing from 4.1.2 to 4.4.3

Hello, I've just bought i9305 with Android 4.1.2 (so no KNOX, no root) and I'd like to get newest custom KK.
I've found this link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-understanding-basics-rooting-s3-gt-t2362743 but I wanna know if I understand correctly:
1. I do backup, especially /efs through recovery.
2. I do root so:
"a) Download the Latest Odin
b) Download recovery of your choice (I choose CWM) and flash it via Odin" - my question is where I can find the latest CWM for i9305?
3. Now I just flash any 4.4.3 soft? No need to flash any older rom before?
That might be a bit newbie questions... I knew everything on my old phone (SGS1) but now I don't remember these steps cuz I did that long time ago on i9000.
Greets and waiting for help

I had a Galaxy S i9000, a Galaxy S2 i9100 and now I have the S3 LTE and the steps where all the same.
I rooted mine with an app called 'framaroot' then installed mobile odin, flashed a CWM recovery, downloaded the rom I wanted or needed and the gapps for aosp roms... and bam... I was on 4.4.2 kitkat!
Tried many aosp roms but all of them had problems with music. It's stuttering. So I got back to alliance 4.3 and wait for (hopefully soon) 4.4.2 official!
Maybe you could get help on YouTube. There are many tutorials and instructions.

This is probably the problem: Did you flash the entire stock SBF file for your carrier -before- you tried to install the roms that aren't working?
I didn't check them all, but the Eclipse rom you linked specifically says in the OP that you need to do this. It is because it requires you to be on the 4.4.2 boot.img (kernel) and baseband. You likely have mismatched versions because you have been flashing other ROMS.
Just follow the instructions in the "Return to Stock" thread to flash back to the most recent OFFICIAL firmware you were on. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DOWNGRADE! If at any point you had the 4.4.3 OFFICIAL ROM on the phone, do NOT flash 4.4.2
Also, if you ever had the 4.4.3 boot.img (kernel) on there, Eclipse specifically says it requires you to be on the 4.4.2 Kernel/baseband.
You need to be really careful to not downgrade. Doing this has left many X users with bricks...
Can you give that a shot and let us know if it fixes your issue?
Good Luck
No, plz Check the other rom , that rom too is a cm based rom i gues but it doesn't give me any trouble,
Also I tried flashing those rom over my stock rom but TWRP just says FAILED
