Hello All,
My current Note5 is N920C and running N920COJV1AOH2 and my question is can i download and install N920COJV1AOGE? (Both international and supplied in my country.)
If answer is "Yes" does this make my warranty void or is there any chance of bricking my phone?
Thanks in advance...

Probably. However, to answer the second question, there's always a chance of bricking a phone when doing ODIN flashes, and if you manually flash anything, you can probably void your warranty (but you'd need a law expert in your region to properly answer the warranty questions.)

Hey guys!
I'm a real noob here, but anyway, here are my questions:
Do I need to unroot my phone if the charging port is broken and I want to send it in for repairs? (Does it count as unauthorized software?)
MORE IMPORTANTLY...
How do I unroot my IS? The problem is that my phone is the Asian one, so I had to flash the AU Optus and it "updated" my radio driver. Now should I downgrade to unroot... should I downgrade to the Asian one (will it kill my radio?) Or just to the Optus one. And how exactly do I unroot? Thanks so much!

Please help? Does HTC care if the problem is hardware related? The lady on the phone said that the technicians do a full diagnostic. Does this mean they check for root?

Just run the Asian RUU to reflash the original ROM.
So the radio won't be affected?

You are returning it for warranty work, right? So what's the problem?

Sorry for the late reply. The problem is that when I flashed the AU Rom, it "updated" my radios. So if I flash the Asian rom, will it make my phone not work? I read about some cases where the phone stopped working or got bricked when the radio version was not correct

You have an IncS with a IncS radio installed. If you flash a IncS RUU, it will also attempt to flash a IncS radio. This will not brick your phone if you are using an official RUU. The worst case is your phone will boot, but you may not have sound. In that case, since you are sending in the phone in for repairs, just report that is one of your issues.
Hi everyone. I tried finding info on my firmware, but somehow i couldn't find wether or not it is "rootable" it is 12.0.A.1.257, global version. Can someone confirm if it is indeed rootable. Thanks!

YES its rootable all you need to run the doomloard's event exploit from original dev section.. happy rooting
ok, I checked that thread and now have additional question for anyone who can have a time and knowledge to answer. obviously there is a new stock rom 12.0.A.2.245 for our bellowed SP. now, I have that older version 12.0.A.1.257 and though I tried updating device firmware I receive message that my phone is up to date. so I assumed this is probably due to some drug deal sony have with my operator ( the one the phone came from) and now for some reason sony would not let me update firmware (yet). so my question is next, actually there are several questions:
A. am I'm going to brick my phone if I manually download and update new firmware via flashtool regardless of sony saying my device is up to date?
B. Is this new firmware 12.0.A.2.245 so much better that is actually worth updating? (this should be A)
C. if i root this old firmware and perhaps install CW as well, and than update to the new one, am I'm going to loose both root and CW, or perhaps only CW after updating? or i will get to keep root and CW?
D. is it better to update and than root, or root and than update?
i hope this is not too much. thanks!
ps. i forgot to say, though my phone came from an operator, it is not sim locked and boot unlock status is YES

A. no unless u r on unlocked bootloader that should brick our phone.
B. every firmware bring new advantages and disadvanteges..so i think u should upgrade it because camera has been improved! (low light photography)
C no u will loose both root and cwm
D both first update than root !! ROOT IS AWSM!!! it makes u feels that device is actually yours!!
thanks for a quick reply. so, I am going to update first and than do that "flash old kernel - root - flash new kernel" thing. and than backup the TA partition from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
I would like to save the BE and DRM keys 'cause I'm sure I'll unlock bootloader as well that entire process is what makes android so much better that sh**pple. like you said, you actually get to own your device. thanks again and thanks XDA!
F I flash the new firmware & hboot incorrectly, is my phone going to be soft bricked or hard bricked? I know it's a stupid question. I just want to know the risk.

Hey guys,
i just want to ask if its possible to unbrand a vodafone unit by flashing the generic country firmware without losing drm keys?
is there any risk?
so far i know that only unlocking the bootloader flashes the keys. but only flashing a firmware is ok?

You should be okay.
There is 0% chance of losing your DRM keys, you can only lose those by unlocking your BL.
Flash an FTF file with Flashtool and you're good to go!:good:
Iam in the same boat. Bought it from a shop without knowing that vodafone infected this beauty with their unremovable apps.
Know a trusted place for s generic rom?

Get them directly from Sony via XperiFirm tool.

You may also use Androxyde Flashtool directly:

Thanks for the info. Now the guts to flash this on my brand new phone.
The chance to actually do damage in the process is really low, that would mean a corrupt bootloader so not even flashmode works anymore. I like to flash my phone using my notebook as it doesn't depend on external power.
if i create the FTF is it correct that i shouldnt include the loader.sin to the package? i have read this somewhere.
Also, is it possible to backup the current branded firmware for guarantee reasons bofore i flash a generic one?

Not without root I believe, could make a Nandroid backup, but requires CWM/TWRP
Why make the FTF file yourself? There are some on the forum that you can just download.

Sent from my D5803
Hi guys did you try to perform the unbrand then? Was it succesfull. I need to perform the same here in italy for a Z3 Compact branded with WIND
Thanks!
Does this void the warranty? I bought one on Amazon and it is a vodaphone d5803. Not sure if I have one to begin with...
Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, so I hope this is thread is in the right place.
Also, please understand that while I'm quite tech-savvy in general, I don't know a lot about phones.
I recently bought a Sony Z3 Compact, model d5803 with stock firmware 23.0.1.A.5.77.
I would like to root it so that I can:
a) migrate data (application data) from my previous phone - using Titanium backup.
b) uninstall some user apps that come with the phone by default, but that I don't want on my phone
I don't especially need or want to use a custom ROM.
On my previous phone that ran under Android 4.1.2, I was able to do just that.
I've read several threads on this forum, but I'm a bit lost.
From what I understand, if I want to root my d5803 w/ 23.0.1.A.5.77 I need to flash the bootloader, and this will void the warranty.
My questions:
1) Is my understanding correct?
2) Is there a way to root this phone w/o losing the warranty? From my understanding, this could be possible if I was running 23.0.A.2.93 firmware?
Some more info you may need
* my d5803 came w/ the 93 firmware but I updated it when I first got it.
* it's an unlocked phone (not bought from a carrier)
* the bootloader is unlockable
* I don't wan't to void the warranty and - of course - I don't want to brick the phone!
Many thanks in advance for your replies!

1. & 2. No. You do not need to unlock the bootloader in order to get root. You can do it by downgrading to .93 Firmware, get root with giefroot and flash back a prerooted .77 firmware without touching bootloader and voiding warranty.
Steb-by-step instructions here
Hi davebugyi,
Thank you, this is very clear!
Somehow I knew upgrading to .77 was a bad idea...
Now, I have an extra question: if I follow bilboa1's step-by-step tutorial, I will be root.
If I apply .77 after that, will I still be root or not?
Thanks again - and thank you bilboa1 for this very clear step-by-step tutorial.
Disregard that last question, already answered - guess I need more coffee today!
