Any note 4 users getting nexus 6p? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Lonnnng time note user here. Had note 2, 3, and 4. Think I'm going the nexus route. Samsung has been good to me but.......what are your thoughts note 4 users?

No removable battery and no SD card=no sale. I'm hoping LG V10 pro is 6"but I'll probably go LG next time.

It's one of the phones on my "maybe" list. The 128gb model isn't too horrendously expensive, so I could probably live with it. I'm definitely going to wait and see what else LG comes out with though.

I'm just not feeling the LG stuff anymore. It kills me that these companies drop expandable memory like a bad habit.

Yup. I ordered the 6P in graphite with 128 GBs, shortly after the site went live. I can deal with the no SD card and irremovable battery since it's 3450 mAh.
Plus, the screen is from Samsung's latest gen so it's better than the Note 4's screen. The Nexus imprint and front facing speakers are amazing, and I won't have to rely on T-mobile to push out updates. Can't believe most of us have to flash a custom rom to be up to date with 5.1.1. The days of waiting are finally over.
I am however going to miss my S-Pen. Doodling in snapchat will be sorely missed

Waiting for Google to decide that sales aren't good enough via Internet and sell through the carriers so I can Jump.

No one thinks it is weird that the LG V10, a premium device, is going to use the same processor and GPU combination as the Nexus 5X but with twice the resolution and twice the RAM? When someone tells me that they can't run a game on their PC I don't ask them how much RAM they have. Someone, somewhere thinks throwing more RAM in it is a cost-saving upgrade for sluggishness.
If people buy this phone it sends the message that we don't care what silicon is in the phone as long as it "feels premium" and that is a ridiculous notion. Seriously, check out these tests: http://www.phonearena.com/news/LG-G4-benchmarked---how-does-the-Snapdragon-808-fare_id68814 It wins in a few categories and but loses in GPU testing. At least get the 14nm Samsung Exynos if you're going to upgrade.

I ordered the silver one with 128gb. I miss having pure Android. I never rooted and flashed any ROMs on my Note 4 b/c I didn't want to lose wifi calling, but now that it's baked into Marshmallow, getting the 6P was a no brainer for me. Would have loved it in the 5X form, but oh well. I thought I would use the functionality the Note 4 more than I did; I barely use the S Pen. The only thing I might miss would be the ability to have two or more apps open at the same time, but I'm sure there is or will be an app for that.

You guys get it report back on your experience. I'm going for the 6p as well.

Nah, just going to stick with the Note 4 probably till the end of next year. I like the Nexus', but I don't /love/ them. Too many compromises. Nothing has really come out that makes me go "damn i need that!"..

^other than the timely updates.

Maybe. That processor is a let down IMO, I would have preferred the exynos. Front facing speakers, 128gb well priced...strong maybe. Not sure if it will be "faster" than my note 4 with a custom ROM. I want to get off Samsung for awhile to show my disdain for them screwing up the note series ( I have owned all four iterations).

Im probably going to get the LG V10. Has the IR blaster, removable battery, micro sd, fingerprint, great camera and features. Only downside i see is that its using Snapdragon 808 which is getting outdated.

I told myself that I am getting a Nexus this time around because I'm tired of dealing/waiting on a 3rd party for fixes/updates and I miss the huge amount of development. The last Nexus I had was the 5, which was also my first, and I loved that phone. I ended up replacing it for a HTC ONE (M8) and then I tried like hell to get the Nexus 6 when it came out, but then I went with the Note 4 because it was a little better and I was tired of waiting.
The whole thing with the removable battery and SD card slot has become more of a nuisance lately rather than something I look for. I would much rather carry around a battery pack than an extra battery because I feel that it's more convenient and has more features... My phone isn't the only I carry around that needs charged. And with the phone being available with 128GB I see no need for an SD card slot anymore... I have a 64GB card in my Note 4 right now and it's only 3/4 of the way full.
Ultimately it came down to the quality of the device along with the service it comes with and the dual front-facing speakers that I sorely miss from my HTC ONEs... and who knows, I might just try out ProjectFi.

How is the 808 outdated lol? It's comparable to the 810 and both are more than capable of handing anything and everything... you're not missing out on anything. Even if the 820/620 were to come out tomorrow the only thing you'd be really missing out on, that's even remotely noticeable, is better power efficiency.

I highly doubt any software within the next 2 years will need any more power than we currently have. The 810 was announced in April of 2014, but I don't think it was until July '14 that it was actually in a device. A year from now the 810 will only be 2 years old, but still far from outdated/worthless.

I like keeping my phone update to the newest and most secured firmware. I don't believe I should have to wait six months to a year to get that. So, yes I will be switching. And will be going to project fi.

Nah I'm going to give my wife the note 4 I'm tired of Samsung bullcrap too much bloat.. I know people said rood but I shouldn't have to deal with that

I'll get one as a backup device... It can't replace my Note 4 for functionality.
Of course I'll wait until user reviews are out. I no longer feel the need to buy a device the day it's up for presale.
UPDATE: Now I'm looking at the new WIndows Phone... That may be a better backup device.

I most Def would get it but since you can only purchase online and you can't jump to it imma wait for the next phone that isn't Samsung

Who is getting the next NOTE or switch to another device?

What's up peeps, who else is skipping the next Note? I know I am, sadly I will have to part ways with what I though would be the only phone I'd rather have. EvLeaks mentioned no SD card, and I am obviously reconsidering another device. My new device of choice is now the new Moto X Pure Edition. It has great specs and a way more cheaper price and doesn't lack SD card. And straight up its beefy. Looking at the leaks it'll be the same note with a glued back and no SD card. I am however keeping my note 4 what do you fellas think? Judging by the articles many people are going to leave samsung. I've been loyal since the s3. O well

I was one of the very first on here to get the note 1. With this sad news, I am not sure what I get. But it's got to be something with a removable battery and SD card.
Add a poll. That might be enough to keep it up. Curious if most of us are bummed out.
I'm thinking maybe the g5 when it comes out.

I have the Note 4 and have been VERY happy with it coming from the Note 3. I'm still on the original NK4 rooted with DK 4.2 rom. Im waiting for the 5.1.1 roms before I update it since doing the update will keep the phone fresh for me for quite some time. With that being said. I want the SD card, that's a must. I never have a need for removable battery as I get 7-8 hours of screen on time easily. I love the S Pen and I use it regularly THAT is the only reason i may consider Note without SD card but I'm more then likely looking at The Moto X Pure/Style if I were to upgrade. The LG G4 would have been a great option in my opinion if they just idn't go with the 808 SD. That processor just feels like an AMD chip instead of an Intel if you get my meaning.
Also been very happy with the specs and performance of the Note 4 so I will use it until it dies. Now in case it goes to the cellphone graveyard my number one choice would be the new Nexus 5 from LG, if the specs and look are exactly as the leaks have shown then it will be a great cost-effective phone. As a previous Nexus 5 owner i am inclined to it over any flagship phone out there.
I'm on the fence, as I love the Note series. I will probably still get the note 5,but I will definitely look at other options.

I usually upgrade every year and was fully planning to get the note 5 until all these leaks starting coming out. No way in hell now, it'd be a downgrade. The mediocrity of the n5 has actually renewed my appreciation for how awesome my n4 is, so I'm more than happy to just hang on to the trusty old mare until she quits or until an actual worthy upgrade comes out. There's nothing out right now that really reels me in, maybe I'll upgrade if the G4 Pro comes out and is super incredible. Regardless I have a feeling this'll be my last Samsung phone, unless by some miracle they pull their heads out of their rears with the note 6.
Is there one thing in particular? Or just the cumulative effect of their poor choices?
For me the non removable battery is the primary reason. I hate not having a spare battery, drives me insane. I'm 50/50 on ordering one. I am definitely going to see what else I could use, but I've been with Sammy for so damn long...
Anyone have suggestions for a new phone? I was considering briefly the Nexus, or the new LG. I though I glanced at an article for the new LG that sounded like it had a stylus, I belive it was the LG G4 Note... Which I thought was odd.

No SD card slot is a deal killer,
And battery not removable... well, that's just dumb!
Peace...
3,000 mah battery non removable battery with more cores to power than the note 4. Until something good comes out until then I'll keep the note 4. Out of everything a smaller battery
Moto x pure edition looks legit man, and has a expandable storage up to 128 with 64gb internal? Geez. If I go that route I would be getting a champagne trim with a red leather back and red accents lol. I love the note screen tho that's the thing that I really love. But that's why I'm keeping my note 4 till the mofkn wheels fall off! !!

How do you know the Note 5 won't have better battery life? Just because it has more cores doesn't mean it will have any less battery life. Optimization is key. If the new chipset is more efficient then that will equal better battery life. Just saying lets wait for the phone to be released (hell, even announced) before we rule it out.

From the lies of previous processors being more efficient I highly doubt they can make it last longer than the note 4 with all the extra juice to power.
I've been searching for contenders since finding out the S6 was sealed shut because I knew the Note line would follow. I narrowed it down to the LG G4 for the removable battery and expandable storage until recently. Now I'm actually considering switching everything I've known up and ~possibly~ go with a Windows phone. People either love them or hate them, and honestly I've never had one so I figure I might give it whirl. The 950XL seems promising for my needs but it all depends if those rumors are true too. Not to mention if T-Mobile will even carry it as I depend on WiFi calling. I've been with Samsung since the S2 and Android in general even longer so it'll definitely be a change all around. If all that doesn't pan out I'll probably still go with LG, but I'll see what's out when the time comes.

Note 5 without removable battery and SD card kills everything that made this phone great. If my Note 4 should die I would look into the new LG Nexus 5. Specs looks good and the previous version was a solid phone.
Switching. Have the new X in my sights. Honestly I never wanted the note 4 in the first place, but it really was the best available phone (by quite a bit) at the time. Well, now, many others have caught up.The X might not be every bit as good, but it's pretty close, and it's $300 or more less expensive. I only use the stylus for BS anyways.
I already bought the new G for my son (shipped, will be here next week), and heck, if I like that, I may even just slum it and go that route. I'm kind of sick of what I spend on these flagship phones now a days.
Edit: like others have said, I'm even considering Windows 10 phone. But I think I'll give them at least 1 more generation before I make that jump.. Or start out with a budget one and use it as a backup or something and see how it goes.
Today was the first day I considered sticking with my N4.. but the horrible battery life I'm getting is just too great... if I could somehow get atleast 8 hrs SOT like I was before this lollipop update then I would highly consider sticking around longer... right now I'm running 128gb so I love the more than ample space I have and I do NOT like the non SD and non removable battery. ... this lollipop update has pushed me to buying a charging dock for this phone because the battery is so bad.

Hardly anyone gets 8+ hrs. SOT. (unless they have an extended battery)
Battery life all depends on the individual user, everyone uses their phones differently and people have different
apps installed plus different personal setting like their brightness setting, auto screen off time, volume and so on.
An other big variable is the number of auto-start apps each of which consume different amounts of battery power
and run in the background. And lastly, remember that everyone uses their phones differently.
You do know that you can downgrade back to the odin flash official kitkat 4.4.4 firmware and re-root your phone,
flash twrp recovery and lastly flash one of the excellent kitkat custom roms found here in xda.
Now why didn't I think of that! LOL
Have a great day,
Good luck!

Note 5, flip it or love it?

Hey XDA
Brief background, want to make this small post here.
Had the S4 for a year, actually enjoyed it for what it was worth, wanted out as soon as we knew for sure there was no root. Stock Touchwiz was just terrible on the 4.
I've never had the chance to own a Nexus device before, my carrier upgrades always came just before the Nexus devices were released, and I've been so ready to upgrade when it comes I jump on it.
This time around I stuck with my G3 for a while. I love this phone. I'm ready for new, and the phones coming out this year are not quite "notable"
I really have my eyes on the Nexus 6P - but US carriers not selling it means I have a decision to make. Got my dad the Note 4 earlier this year, he likes it. I like it the little bit I've played with it. I feel I could even use the Note 5 to replace my notebook in class for notes. ATT bootloader seems to be like the S4. Not much will come of bootloader unlocks with this phone.. It appears.
------
So I will upgrade through ATT, probably to the Note 5. Question is - stay with the Note 5 and learn to love it, despite the experiences I've had with Samsung, or flip it unopened on CL and order up the N6P....??
I really do not want a subpar camera to the G3, nor do I want a dull screen. Both devices seem on par, both no SD, battery not removable on the Note... Cameras both good..
Anyone here want the Nexus 6P?! Willing to get rid of your Note 5 for it?
The 6P looks sweet (literally and figuratively) but I'll never buy a smartphone with the Snapdragon 810. I already have a stove.
If i had a real need for a second phone, Nexus 6P will be my choice
I like Note5 as my main phone, S pen is really helpful, and makes you smart ?
Sent from my SM-N920C using Tapatalk
I see. Can anyone here tell me if it's valid to think you could completely replace a notebook and take notes in an 8 hour class day with the n5?

The phone hasn't even come out yet, wait until someone can review it. There are phones with the chip that heat up a lot, and some that don't heat at all.

I've had the Note 5 for a few weeks now, it is an excellent all-around Android phone.
I think the Nexus 6p looks great too, has pros and cons like any phone.
I think the Note 5 is the better all-around device and is the premier flagship Android phone of 2015.
I don't think you could sit and take notes for 8 hours on this phone. Lol. Maybe you could, maybe not. I would never want to do that.
The Nexus 6p is using the SnapDragon 810 version 2.1 - heat issues have "supposedly" been resolved on that version.
Some things to consider with AT&T:
1) You can't root but you can use Samsung Pay
2) Resale value on AT&T branded Samsung phones (Android in general) are lower than other models like T-Mobile, due to the locked bootloader, they usually sell for less/resale for less.
So I don't think you want to take a risk and purchase the phone from them, only to sell it for less.
Worst come to worst, try it out, they should give you 14 days to try it and return it. Something like that.

True and true. I may end up doing that. Will be end of this month or next, don't want to make a payment to pay off my G3, got 4 months left but they usually let you swap with 2 left.
I want to try the N5, the S6 edge has a brilliant screen but not for me.
I just really have my heart set on this N6P. If I don't like what I get with the Note5 I may return it for a iPhone6S and sell that on CL. Should get more $$$ for it. Overnight myself a N6P and I'll be good to go.

It depends if you want stock Android or not. That's all it really comes down to cause the Note 5 has everything else the 6P has for the most part.
I personally can't stand stock Android, so I'm sticking with the Note 5. Stock Android is insanely boring and featureless compared to Touchwiz. And the Note 5 has the S-Pen.

Indeed. That's true. I love vanilla Android. I wish the OnePlus 2 was a bit better... I'd sweep that in a heartbeat.
Touchwiz in my experience has been very Ram consuming and slow with the amazing hardware Samsung has brought to the table. It ruins the phone in my opinion. If course, the Note typically has better optimized software and useful features.
I lean more and more to the n6p every time I look at it. But again, ATT doesn't sell. Going to really suck

I've had the Note 3, 4 and now 5. In my opinion, each iteration is slowly getting refined to be a better version compared to the last. If they keep this up, all the old stereotypes about touchwiz will eventually be obsolete.

I think RAM management can easily be fixed with a software update.
The Note 5 - even with this "RAM management" issue - is still the fastest, smoothest Note I've used. Hands down!
Software was never a strong suite for Samsung, however, they are learning. Fast enough for some people, slow for others.
It should only get better...

Yeah, yet the track record shows Samsung will not upgrade the software's RAM consumption near as much as they could. They just don't have our interests at heart, rather the general public. After all we are a minority on XDA.
May settle for the Note5, will have to find time to go play with one in the store soon..
Otherwise I'll flip an iPhone 6S for the N6P... Ugh.

I say no. It may just be my writing, but I can only fit maybe 4-5 legible words across the screen in portrait mode, which makes for a lot of +New notes, or one lonnnnnnng one.
I've had my fun with it, but I am realizing it's just not convenient to try and pack a tablet into a phone, and use a phablet as a phone. I am now leaning more towards having a tablet for actual writing on, and a phone I can use easily in one hand for texting/emailing/calling.

Nothing yet... I'm not ready to get rid of my N4 just yet, and nothing available/just announced is more appealing atm. If I was into small screens however, the LG G5 would be so hard to resist. The more that I've read about it in the last couple days, the more impressed I am. Not sure if you read much about it, but check out the last few pages of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/general/glad-note-4-samsung-screws-note-line-t3157384 where I was reading up on it, and posted a few times after coming across some details about the device that were just too killer to keep to myself!
I'll probably be looking at new phones around when the N6 comes out. I'm really hoping that LG puts out a bigger brother to the G5 by then though. The slot that the battery slides out of and the modular accessories that can be plugged into it is a legitimately innovative design... I'm super pleasantly surprised after last year when the industry was entirely stagnant and even regressed that things are turning around. I've been a Note user for a while, but the S7 hasn't done much for my N6 expectations. Sealed battery ard dropped IR blaster (G5 still has one :good: ) are pretty much enough to put me off. At least they waterproofed it (IMO it's an insult to customers to seal the battery and not do so), but we'll see when Note 6 time comes. In the mean time, I'll definitely be watching LG with interest
What are you thinking about upgrade options?
I was looking at new phones and nothing yet. was looking at lg v10.. no activity g5 to small. next samsung bringing back the sd card but no removable battery. sooooo my question is, I have a note 3 still do I get a new note 4 from amazon or a used one from swappa already rooted ? what do you think ? any comments ? thank you
LG G2 on the way. Anything but Samsung from now on. had a perfect S2, S4, and the Note 4 was great while it lasted but complete hardware failure just out of warranty.
I think im gonna jump on the S7 edge. I love my note 4. Best phone I ever had. Slightly smaller screen and no IR, and I do use it on occasion, but I dont see phones having it anymore.
When are the notes released? August if I remember right. The 4 gb ram and just something new is calling to me. Couple post up about the G5. I was reading up on it as well. If it was bigger it would be a tough choice. Love the ideas. Samsung should be stealing them by the….. S9 maybe!
If the rumors are true. My next phone will be the HP Elite X3 Windows Phone. It's a monster. Although I might not be able to get past the YouTube app not being available for Windows.

It's always a good idea to buy a Note 4, provided that you absolutely need the Spen. If you don't, then maybe you should look for something else.
But if you intend to use the Spen extensively, then Note 4 looks even better than the Note 5. For a relatively affordable price, you get replaceable battery, memory slot and you can install a Note 5 rom, making it absolutely the same in the software sector. The Note 5 has a much more capable hardware on paper, but probably you won't notice that in everyday use and in most situtations.
The deciding factor is the Spen. Do you need it? If yes, get it. If you don't, look for something else.

thanks guys,
I am little confused with note4 and moto x style...I was using note 2 and not 3 before then I shifted to one plus 2.
I thougt without sd card I will be able to manage but I guess its quite difficult thats why I want to buy a phone with sd card. Moto x style is good one with lowr price also but its not having OIS and camera is not so good in low light conditions.
How is note 4 camera. Do you guys recommend to buy note 4?
Note 4 is the best phone I have ever owned it's still competing with today's flagship especially with root and unlocked bootloader the battery is amazing camera is high quality and I have never ran out of space with a 128gb SD card and 32gb on board memory I would suggest if you get the note 4 get the snapdragon variant. But like other have said if you don't use the spen you can get a on paper better phone with the same price range, but that note 4 amoled screen is very hard to compare to.

Well, without spen also I am not able to find any phone within same price range which is as good as note 4.
Note 4 screen --resoultion + size
removable battery,
sd card
infra red
3 GB ram
CAMERA (OIS + 16MB)
I am looking for good screen (5.5 to 5.7) 3GB RAM, good camera,sd card support.
Do you know any phone better than note4 in above features.
Post no. #4 is the kind of post why i get angry for the sheer stupidity!
Note 4 at 30k is still the best phone out there, end of story. One Plus 2 nice, but only the camera is better. I myself was confused between X Style and Note 4, ended up with the latter, glad I did. Motorola would win in terms of software only, that's it. For Note 4 you only compromise with the software, TW (it's not that bad anyway), and get quite a lot of other this which other phones can't even dream about providing.
Go for it.

You won't find a more full featured phone in that price range that will compare with a note 4, and the spen is just a topping on the cake that makes it that much more useful. There are a bunch of amazing Roms that ported the note 5 features and cleaned up touchwiz to the point where it actually is a great Ui the only phone I would think of getting instead of a note 4 is the new nexus.

You have mentioned nothing about the Spen. You also had Note 2 and 3, but it was easy for you to shift to OPT.
I think it's obvious that you do not have a great need for the most stand out feature of the Notes. In that case, you should probably go for another phone, there are so many good phones out there these days.

CAMERA with OIS
Only phone which came close was moto x style but its camera is not good at all. I like some new phones also Like Zuk ,LE Eco but they dont have sd card.
Moto g plus is good but it is having heating issue plus camera is not good.

You can get even better devices. Note 4 surely is great one I myself use note 4 but after what sammy did with 6.0.1 i think note 4 users should use a ported rom to do justice with the hardware. So in comparison to that there are many devices. Htc one me camera just go and look at the camera of that device. Hence my point of view. If you didnt like it then talk respectfully.

Yah man I'm surprised you even mentioned the iPhone in that post that was pretty sad to bring up iPhone in a XDA forum. And I'm pretty sure the YU is a Indian company I'm not sure the band's will work here or at least have issues in the USA or Europe.

Hahaha yupp iPhone sucks i say it too but as i said to the other guy i gave him the choices on price range. And yes YU is an Indian company but I saw people around me using it and it is good enough i mean given the liberty to do anything with the device, few tweaks would make it a good one. And the model was different its going to launch in this week with flagship specs. So he can keep it to compare the models you know.

Don't go for note 4. I've been using for 1 and a half year and I regret it. I don't want to change to note 5 and wait for another year for note 6 or note 7 edge (whatever they want to call it).
P's. It's a Korean company and not an us, europe or whatever your country coming from.
To OP, just go to the shop and try both. Better to try yourself then asking other people.
I just picked up a used N901F for a ludicrously cheap price and I'm going to give it a week or so to see how it compares to my N9005 with daily use before I decide if I keep it or not. The biggest issue will be battery life as the Note 3 rocked in that department! I travel a lot so I need battery life and stability so I'm a little hesitant to go down the custom ROM route (didn't have too many issues with my HTC HD2 in that respect) so I've rooted it stuck TWRP and xposed on, installed most of my old apps and gsam battery monitor to keep an eye on what's going on with the battery.
This is my first time using MM - any apps/features you guys recommend either specifically on the Note 4 or even MM in general?
You can go for Note 4, eyes closed, great phone.
Seriously, that's a very funny post, Yu and other phones compared with Samsung, and that too a Galaxy Note phone. I live in India too, and I too do see ghatiya (rubbish) phones being used nowadays, LeEco, Lyf, Xioami etc., those could never be compared with a Samsung or brands like that at first place! Also just by seeing a phone, that too used by other people, you can't conclude a decision, let alone recommending it to someone!!! Weird!
Note4life only note 6 next!!!

I'd honestly say that the Note 4 is a excellent device even by today's standards. I've seen some retailers sell it at a much lower price than when I purchased mine last year.

What's your next device? Note 7 or something else?

I'm assuming a lot of you are like me, and have had the Note 4 close to 2 years now- close to paid for... wondering if anyone is considering getting a Note 7 or something else and why?
I was all excited about upgrading to a Note 7 but the limited research I've done based on the S7 is the bootloader will probably be locked meaning no root, no roms, etc... so now I'm not sure if I just stick it out a while long with my Note 4 or look elsewhere for another device? (nexus ###?)
Comments appreciated.

It's a pain in the butt shopping for where to go from the Note 4. Where, oh where, is it's successor? I so hate the idea of a non-replaceable battery. Maybe, if it wouldn't be too grueling to take my next "sealed" phone apart to replace the dang thing. The next big screen Nexus? Arrrgggghhhhhh!
Well if I didn't just post a lengthy reply to a similar question in the Intl. forum! (In fact I did; this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/moving-to-flagship-t3404126 my ramblings are the first post on page 4 ) Bullet points:
* I think the Note 4 is (still, 2 years in) a great device and I plan on keeping mine after making my last few payments. It will be a super fancy universal IR remote... ...among other things Definitely no shortage of ways to repurpose an old/extra Android device.
* I really hope the upcoming Nexus has expandable storage... I could see that happening this year with Google's "adoptable storage" (and other OEM's failing to... adopt it ) It's equally possible that I just really want that to happen. Either way, if it does, the larger screen version will be my next phone.
* The Note 7 looks beastly and if it doesn't have a locked bootloader I might go for it. The thing is, I'd really like to avoid buying anything from TMO aside from service... ya know, "vote with my wallet" against their abysmally late updates. I have a "new" Tab S2 TMO variant that's now the only model of that tablet that hasn't been updated to MM yet, making it as well as my N4 dead last (including other carriers) to receive the 10 month old OS. No way I can throw down up front for a $$$ N7 though, and I did do a couple of exchanges with the TMO insurance that were super easy, so bootloader unlocked = maybe, locked = not. a. chance. (not that I'd ever pay money for a "computer" that locks me out from self-administration, but particularly since I trust TMO 0% wrt updates and may need to handle that myself.)
* Option 3 = ??? Hoping to find the following: strong/friendly development community, expandable storage, >= 5.5" quality display, standard headphone port (IMO it's ridiculous that dropping this is becoming "a thing" w/o a superior replacement), and "good" battery life. Hopefully not asking too much in 2016, sure was in 2015.
Currently leaning towards a Nexus I suppose... not really in any rush to move on from the N4. Oh and definitely agree @steven.m - sealed battery = planned obsolescence but (clearly) any phone without a completely impractical metal unibody is simply not "PREMIUM" enough for... something something... of today! Note that a removable battery isn't even on my "wish list"... I was trying to make it realistic
I'll keep this N4 until it's dead. Then I'll most likely look at Nexus, HTC or Moto devices. About the only thing I'll miss is the WiFi calling.

Xiaomi Mi Max for me
Xiaomi Mi Max 6.5 inches of Android goodness, plus removable battery and sd card support. Samsung has iphoned their way out of my hands. If I wanted a iphone I would have bought a iphone, but such is life. Wife has s7 edge and she keeps telling me it is the worst phone she has ever owned. With that in house review why would I buy a Note 7?

Yes, and the capacity can be battery capacity can be maximised this way since they don't have to make provisions for the battery to be removed.
I think I'm done with Samsung for now. Waiting for the Note 4 MM update this long and the fact that they basically abandoned the Galaxy Tab Pro six months after they released it have really turned me off.
I think I'll be trying one of the 'upstart' manufacturers. I've been considering the Huawei Mate line for a while now, but their software has always been a drawback (but at least they update it). Now I've been reading that they are making software and their EMUI skin a priority as they attempt to break into the US/NA market. I look forward to seeing what they've got. Also, T-Mobile specific versions of any phone seem to not get nearly as much development, which is understandable. But I think I'll get an unlocked international phone next time.
I will be keeping my Note 4 (just like I still have my Note 3) for use with the virtual reality headset that I will be getting. It still has enough processing power and a very good screen resolution for that type of activity.
I'm thinking about the zenfone 3 ultra 6.8inch monster lol
The note 7 isn't on my radar, I too am think of going with a nexus if it has a memory card slot but all of this won't be for a while as I just traded in my s7 ( which was part of bogo ) and got my note 4 back that I jumped about 6 months ago. I missed it so much I will keep it for ever, even after its paid off. I also have the s7 edge which just became rootable so I might play with it for a while but it's my work phone and I have until November before I can jump again but it won't be a Sammy phone. I don't really like the s7 edge as those edges are a real nightmare unless you have a case on it you will have accidental touches that will drive you crazy. I'll hold on to my note 4 until next year and then start looking.
I didn't realize the s7 had been rooted

I have the Honor 5x which is from Huawei also., bought it a few months to test, for $200 premium looking, metal casing, 2 sim slots and external sd... but no removable battery and we are supposed to get MM any day now..
but yes I think I want a google phone, but it has to have external sd, maybe I can deal with non removable battery, but who knows. and they better start lowering prices of phones, they would sell more and sell every year selling at about $500.. that's just me thinking out load.. :silly:
because I have my father in law had the S2 very outdated and giving him problems.., so off went my note 3 which was my sons, so he plays with it,
I started with HTC, had almost every single phone till the M7, then moved to Samsung from S2, S3, Note 2, 3, 4.. and on the Notes had 2 of each, for me and my wife.. also with the M7.. I have paid to much on phones and then they don't take care of the updates which the dev do it better than Samsung is very disappointing since manufacturing them is really under $200 coming from the take downs of the devices.. way to much profit, then they expect us, to buy new phones every year...
try to return a new phone u buy in T-Mobile, they offer u half of less after 3 or 4 months then they sell it back as certified phones for double than what they paid getting it back from you... really sucks..
remember a phone is for making phone calls......
I have a pc, laptop,
2 tablets Samsung as well, and they stop with the updates after a year. u get lucky maybe give it a year 2 or 3 months...
super surprised about this MM update on our phones giving that we are almost on our 2 year.. very surprised, guess they are trying to say we will support them longer... remember Note 4 came with KitKat, then Lollipop, and now MM... wow....
darn even apple updates the phones till the older phones can't except the updates to slowing it down or not enough space left..
opps rambling, let me stop... haha
This is a good question I guess it depends on if note 7 comes with 820 or something better I won't buy a 820 phone there are cheaper options with same processor. Im thinking Nexus. But if note 7 has 4000mah battery it may get my money. My last 2 Samsung phones have had bad gps

I am getting to the point where I can no longer justify spending $650-700 on a phone. You're right, there are so many decent options now for half the price.
I'm waiting to see what the Nexus phone phones are like this year. I'm hoping they'll have a nice premium phone this year. The 6P was a nice start. HTC may kick it up another notch. Rumors are that Google wants a phone that will directly compete with the iPhone. Well see if that happens. I've had only Samsung smartphones (Galaxy S, Note 2, note 4, galaxy light). It's time for something different
Jeez the note 7 is going to be almost 1000.

Agreed... but then again, do I have enough time to monkey around with ROMs again? Realistically - no. If I get an Android device again, I'm just going to have to get the latest Nexus. I'm tired of TW and trying to hack things to make them behave like I want them to...( I'm looking at you NFC icon ).
