Wifi hotspot without root? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

I just got my S5 with OF3 factory installed. I know there is no root as of now. Is there any way to enable native hotspot without root? That is really the only thing I miss from my rooted S4.

[Q] Need Help adding ad hoc connection to Galaxy Tab

I'm a newbie here and need help adding the ad hoc connect option to my Galaxy tab. I've already installed z4root (it's complete) and I purchased Busybox from the market and installed. My issue - I have know ideal how to use Busybox to push or anything (I'm a first timer).
Also, prior to installing Busybox, I tried to copy and paste the wpa.supplicant file in the system/bin folder and only received errors. I have the Superuser and Root Explorer. I found the post with what appears to be instruction for Busybox. However, I don't have a clue to what it meant. I'm really green here - can someone provide the beginners version in using Busybox to setup the ad hoc?
Thanks,
I have a Sprint SGT. Since the OTA update to EA24 I have been unable to get AdHoc WiFi working again. I rerooted (using SuperOneClick) successfully and replaced wpa_supplicant again but no Ad Hoc servers are showing up. I am sure I am rooted (via RootCheck and the fact that I can use Wireless Tether for root users) but I still cannot see Ad Hoc Wifi servers. Anyone else in the same boat?

Wow man, thanks for the warning, I'm using my Galaxy Tab ad-hoc(ed) to my Xperia X10 using Wifi tether, since I use this for my college project you are a life saver.
Now, does anyone knows how to kick off the update alert? I'm kind of pissed of it showing every 10 minutes.
Its working!!
I was successful in getting the adhoc connection to work with my verizon galazy pad.........

What I did was go ahead and try to install the update. The update stops with an error on my tab because of my wpa suppliment. The update alert goes away. This works for me so use at your own caution.

This issue ever resolved?
Will this patch enable adhoc wifi on a Sprint Gtab running GB?
(yes)
Well I took the leap and did this wpa_supplicant patch on my Sprint Gtab running GB, and it WORKS. Very good, now I can do 3G via the WM Wifi Hotspot app. Presumably any adhoc wifi source will work now, like Windows Internet Sharing, etc.

[Q] WiFi tether app? (Rooted w/Towel Root, 4.4.2)

Is there a reliable app or even one that works to tether wirelessly if you're rooted with the temporary TowelRoot method? I'm on KitKat 4.4.2. All the reviews on the Play Store for the various WiFi apps have negative reviews. I don't want USB tethering either. Need it for my Nexus. Any help would be great.

I have. Unfortunately I get the message:
"Your carrier has blocked WiFi mode in latest phone update. Please use USB mode or bluetooth mode instead. "
use the xposed module "Moto X Hide Carrier for 4.4+" it hides the carrier label in the status bar as well as enabling native tethering.

Ok awesome. Now my only question would be.. Will xposed modules work with something as finicky as TowelRoot? I'm gonna give it a shot now until I'm able to get unlocked. (fingers crossed)

i thought towel root doesn't work on moto x? i had been using the jcase root method, and on occasion i have lost root when enabling subsequent xposed modules, but they work fine if i reroot and enable them again.

It is. It's not the greatest and a bit unreliable at times, but it's working for my Titanium Backup and root version of Greenify.
To find out if the xposed module installed successfully, how can I test tethering? I'm not sure where native tethering is located.

s5 at&t sm-g900a rooting or permissive

ok so im trying to root my s5 so i can use my app radio touch screen function. Towel root doesn't work on my phone because its a newer kernal and has been "fixed". I was wondering if there was any other way to root my phone or at least make it permissive so i can use my app radio touch screen function to control the phone. I see there is talk about the guy who made the towel root working for google now so there is no way of getting an updated towel root. Anyone have any ideas?

Nougat Root

I rooted my Nougat N6 but I guess it is only able to get Systemless root since Secure Settings isn't working.
How did you guys go about it?
Thanks

We went systemless and sent bug reports to developers in order to have them update their apps to support systemless root.

which roms turn on tethering?

ive rooted and unrooted my nexus 6 a dozen times. when rooted, i edit the build.prop to disable the tethering eligibility check and install adaway... but this has always been done on the stock rom.
now, i'm interested in trying some custom roms. just... because.
are there any that automatically disable the tether eligibility check? or do i have to root and edit the build.prop still? what about adaway? do i have to root for that, too? or do some custom roms give automatic root?
-Peter
PureNexus does for sure.
Thanks, mate. Just to make sure:
Does flashing PureNexus automatically root for you?
Or
Does PureNexus turn off the tethering check and allow AdAway even without root?

You will need an unlocked bootloader and TWRP to flash it. I do not believe the rom includes a root package, so you will need to flash your preferred root app (phh, Magisk, or SuperSU). If you do not flash a root package, you will not be able to use AdAway. The tethering check is turned off in the rom.
that's what i needed to know thanks.
