My brothers phone has been on ZV5 until yesterday he asked me to update it to ZV6 which was quite easy I just took the OTA in the system update menu. Everything went fine, rebooted, updated, rebooted. Now here is where things get screwed, after it finishes booting back into android the signal indicator is showing no signal. We wait 10 mins or so and still nothing, tried to update profile and it says it cannot when there is no service. Toggle airplane mode on and off still nothing, pull battery and let it sit, still nothing. This is a unmodified system, never rooted, straight stock. Anyone have any ideas?
I had a similiar issue after updating to ZV6. Not immediately but a couple hours later. Not sure if it was related to his issue or something else. It started working normal again.

It's so very strange, I downloaded LTE Discovery from play store and it says my cell radio is off, so I tried toggling airplane mode and still nothing.
Try connect to wifi and update profile.

Same result, I have no idea what's going on.

Maybe you can use the TOT to factory reset the phone and clear everything out and see if it starts working...
Try re-activating Dial ##72768# Menu->Reset and Commit.
You can try it on WIFI, 3G or LTE.

This has become a minor irritant... when I first installed CM7 my Nook Color was happy to connect to wi-fi directly after rebooting.
At some point in the past week I attempted toggling airplane mode just to see what it would do. The checkbox doesn't stay checked, as it seems to error out of trying to enter that mode. Subsequent to that attempt, every time I reboot, the tablet starts up with wi-fi disabled. I can turn it back on and it works, but after a reboot it's off again.
Has anyone else run into this?

yup, lots of people. This might help http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/18630-wifi-not-working/
Thanks for the link. I tried the solution of forgetting a secured network and then re-adding it. Rebooting now to see if that killed the "ghost airplane mode"...
No it didn't. Wifi is still off post-reboot.
Trying the sqlite instructions to see if that works... YES! Perfect solution.

I was all ready to flash the ROM again when I found the sqlite fix. My first time messing around with editing DB's. Worked for me too! WHEW!
I know this is old but all you need to do is download "Android Assistant" and turn off the Airplane Mode via the settings.
Thank you for the link. The only answer that worked for me.

I setup my wifes phone yesterday and then thought to check for the 4.4 update. Right now nothing appears to be happening. When I check for the update manually it says that there is an update already downloading and that I will be notified when complete. However, there is nothing in the notification tray to suggest anything is happening. This morning I woke up to a message saying that the download will complete once on wifi (but the phone was on wifi and working properly). That notification is now gone and same problem persists.
I've tried the obvious so far: Restart phone, try update using the Moto software via USB.
Level 1 tech support wants me to do a factory reset. Hoping to avoid that and the hour+ of setting up the phone again. Any thoughts? My phone is not rooted nor do I have plans to do so...
Since nobody seems to have any thoughts on this I decided to go ahead and factory reset the phone. Same exact symptom as before. Phone tells me there is an update available, I click download, nothing happens. Check the status a bit later and it says that an update is already in progress.
I'm starting to think that it's a problem with Recovery. Is it possible that these things will function normally with a broken or no recovery present? Went into fastboot and selected recovery. Instead of getting a factory reset I got a 'no command' error. Can't imagine it's possible to flash stock recovery if it's not rooted.

That's stock recovery, I think you need to hold down the volume button and then the power button and release, it should boot into recovery.

Hello,
I FINALLY convinced my wife to go Android. Got Nexus 7 2013 in August and she's gotten used to it. She's been IOS forever. So, her new moto x arrived Friday and we setup yestersday. Since she is OK with Nexus, the moto X will be good for her to move to. All is good EXCEPT the updates didn't download for some reason on activation yesterday. It showed it was downloading but to re-activate wifi. But, it was on?!!! Anyhow, she comes home today from her first full day at work with Triangle in notification bar to turn on wifi to download update. It's been over an hour with no movement and no status bar showing it's begun the download. I keep clicking for "system update" but says it's downloading... Status bar shows nothing other than update is ready and turn-on wifi.
Sounds like same issue as original poster. So far, wife is not happy with Android and her battery meter jumps all over place from 5% to 100%. Tempted to do factory reset but not a good way to start off as OP mentioned.
Any ideas or updates? Thanks

It seems like a dodgy or slow internet connection to me. Since you're still in download phase of the update, I don't think the problem is related to Recovery.

Identical problem here. No update so far. I did the factory reset with same results. Going to try to flash stock firmware if I can figure it out.

Wifi is not the problem. The internet is cranking and when I did the factory update it chewed through 20+ app updates in no time at all. Motorola has no idea how to help me... they just want me to send it in for repair. Such crap. I would love to try flashing stock firmware but can't seem to find any links that work.
Found the firmware. It appears my phone has the oldest build listed 139.9.51. Would it be okay to flash new build of 139.12.54?

Or does it make more sense to go ahead and flash 4.4 stock firmware?

Here is the thread that I used to fix my problem. I downloaded the stock 4.4 firmware from the link and flashed it using that technique. Phone appears to be tip-top now running stock 4.4.
Hello. Seems you fixed the problem. I question as to whether future OTA updates will download and we should return or not. Hmm..
I don't know what firmware she has. I'll have to check tonight when she gets home. Can you re-post the link?... it seems it didn't post it on the thread.

Oops: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572249
I think this is likely a temporary fix. I figure there is bound to be at least one or two more OTA's well within the warranty period... so I'll found out then if there is some other problem that needs to be addressed. Right now when I check for an update it simply says that the phone is up-to-date.
4.4.2 should be around the corner I think...

You could flash the post-camera OTA SBF and see if OTAs to 4.4.

I did originally flash 4.2 (139.12.54) to test that very thing. The OTA had the same problem. Like I said, I think
this phone will eventually get sent back to Motorola... but during the holidays I'm just going to deal with it. Besides, the
phone is running great.
I'm using the tmobile version and I'm having the same problem. Says it needs to connect to wifi to update, but its already connected. After reboot it says update in progress, but nothing happens.

Maybe it's a problem with the Motorola update servers...
I'm thinking that's probably the case since the cyber Monday promotion probably slammed them.
Glad to hear it's not just two of us..but still.... Sorry to hear of your problem too. Keep us posted.
Update on my wife's moto X. Still no update has been downloaded. She came home last night from work turn on wifi with triangle in notification. It said I have to turn on wifi to start download. It was already on have been on for a long time. So after a while I started to hit the Check Update button and also cleared the popup message telling me that one was being downloaded. (It's not) Did that routine several times. It did look like some WiFi activity was occurring based on WiFi x in symbol..but nothing. The message in notification eventually changed to the download status bar but stayed a 0 %
So, same story since initial setup on Sunday. Bummer. Not going to fiddle with any hackery. It should just work like my X does which is why she wanted it in first place and left Apple.
Will keep all updated.

I received the latest update to 4.4.4 this past Wednesday. This is the update that included the HTC Eye Experience. The update went smooth and everything was all good until I was driving home from work. The phone randomly rebooted itself and ever since, I cannot get Wi-Fi to turn off. It stays off for approximately one minute and then turns right back on. I have searched this forum and others all day with no solution seeming to help. I also hard reset the phone earlier today but the problem persists. Anyone had this issue or have any solutions? Thank you in advance!

Do you Sprint Connection Optimizer running? That'll keep Wi-Fi on. See this http://support.sprint.com/support/t..._Optimizer_on_or_off_HTC_Onereg_M8/51761-1469

Thanks for responding! Its not Connections Optimizer. It has been turned off from day 1 but I did recheck and it is still off. My M8 is not rooted and completely stock. It worked great up until this update. I tried soft reset and hard reset to no avail. There is a message that pops up in the notification bar sometimes (Wi-Fi notification with a red triangle) that says setup has not been complete but nothing happens when I click on it and it goes away. Sprint is, of coarse, no help at all. They want to send me a new phone but I really don't think this is a hardware issue. Maybe a bad download?
A few hours ago my phone lost signal, I thought nothing of it at first as there is a dead spot close to my home.
Now I noticed the WIFI is also not working, and I cant switch it on, the toggle just jumps back to off.
I reset the phone, removed and changed sims, and did a factory reset. Nothing fixed it.
The phone wasn't dropped or anything.
Any ideas?

No, I cant get past the setup screen after the reset, as I cant connect to anything.
I think the only way to fix it is to flash it somehow. I guess the radio is part of the kernel, does anyone know where I can get the stock kernel to flash?
Why don't use the warranty ?
I bought it off gearbest, so think the warranty is going to take a long time.
But maybe it is the best option. I'll at least find out what the procedure is.
Sent from my SM-G903M using Tapatalk
I'm not sure but maybe you can ask to gearbest and to xiaomi directly in your country before any other modifications on your phone
Same here straight out of the box in Sweden global version ?
It usually is a kernel problem. Flash trough fastboot the rom if you can and see if it fixed.
Maybe your persist pertition got corrupted you have to flash it manually. Or if you have warranty then just claim it.
I'm having the same issue :/ Any update on this topic?
Suddenly the WiFi on my daughter's s8 won't turn on. I go to turn it on, wheel spins for a few seconds and then turns back off. Just started yesterday was working fine prior.
I've reset all network connections
Factory reset phone
Nothing seems to let me re-enable WiFi at all doesn't make a lick of sense. Anyone have any suggestions to try before I have to go buy a new replacement ugh.
Phone is TMobile s8 on the latest software G950U with Android 9 April Patch
When you did the factory reset, did you also reinstall any apps or settings? If so, reset again, but don't restore anything. If you still can't turn on WiFi, I'd say the radio has failed. Time to give her yours and get an S10. [emoji1]

Guessing radio is failed, because before it even hits restore point when first boot after factory reset and it asks if you want to configure WiFi it exhibits the same behavior Ugh this sucks

No reason not to take it to a T-Mobile shop and see if they can do anything with it. I just wouldn't get my hopes up.
