Caller ID - Location - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The other day I received a couple of calls from numbers I'm not familar with. When the calls came in, only the number was shown on the incoming call screen. Later I noticed in my call log that those numbers show a state in the log. Although it's only a state it is better than nothing. Why does it not show this info when the call is incoming? Is there a way to change this? I did not find any caller ID settings.

I am using a 920I on AT&T on firmware for XSP. When I get a call from a number I do not have stored it shows what state the call is coming from. I do not know of a setting to change this.

Voicemail Number? Is it my cell phone number? or is it a weird one?

Ok in my speed dial i have a Voicemail number.. its a weird number, like a 772 area code number, When i call it goes to my voicemail.. Why? whos number is this (772)??
my Telephone number is a (305) number..
I am comming from sprint and my voicemail number was MY cell phone number in order to get to my voicemail.
Do i edit my option and change the number to call my cell phone number (305)???
OR do i keep the (772) number?? I am confused...? Either number i call it goes into my voicemail...
Ok, get this, when I go into my phone Settings > Services > Voice Mail and Text Messages... The numbers there are weird.. the voicemail is that (772) and the Text messages Service center is a weird (312) number.. Why??
that's normal for most US carriers now. If you call that number from a landline youwill see it takes you into the vmail system so you can retrieve your messages from a landline. It's going to be a different number depending upon what area you are in. Mine is 619-204-0806 and I use the phon ein 760 area code. 619 is probably San Diego and I live in the Palm Springs area which is a few hours away.
Oh Ok, I got it.. ... So should I just change the number under phone Settings to MY cell number? or keep that weird 772 number??
What do you think???
Also, I set up a password to my Voicemail, But when i call my voicemail from my Cell phone it doesnt ask for it, When I call that Weird (772) number from a land phone, it does ask for it..
Is there a way to get a password from my cell phone too??
Thank you

leave the 772 number, it's correct.
when you call in via the cell phone will never ask you for a password, it assumes that it's safe to allow the caller into vmail because they are calling from the cell number associated with vmail box. If you call from a landline, then it prompts the caller for a password.
Now, if I rememebr right (I was just playing around with this a few weeks ago), on ATT you can setup the vmail box to prompt for password from the cellphone also. Youwould need to go thru the vmail account options and see if there is an option for this. If you are on ATT I believe it's possible.
From prior experience in working for that POS company with that general vmail number you get charged minutes. But if u put in your own number as the vmail number it counts as mobile to mobile. Have fun!

wow good point, especially now that they give out m2m air time a lot more then before. I've got unlimited m2m so that makes sense for me to change it. I already switched mine....

Missed calls...

Sorry this is really basic.
I was informed by my carrier that calls made to my voice mail will be indicated on my phone and that the caller ID and time of call will be visible in the missed call log.
Well I did a test and yes, there is an indicator that a voice mail is waiting, but where can I find the Caller ID/tel. number?
TIA
There is an app that does that if that is any good to you.
Is it not under the Call Log in the Phone?

Yeah that's where you would think it would be.
The only thing that's showing up there are calls I have made, not any incoming voice messages/missed calls.
Is there are other place to look?
I've also looked at messaging, but that looks like it's just for text/sms messages.
The only thing that comes in is a notification on the home page saying "new voicemail dial +1-647-xxx-xxxx"
There is nothing about the caller ID.
That's a bummer.

Sure, what's the app?
You would think a brand spanking new phone like this would have this feature?
I mean I'm subscribing to caller ID.
I think it is an Android thing as my last one didn't have it either.
It is called Missed call.
I haven't used them yet but there are also apps that act as an on phone message machine so you do not have to call your voicemail box and if your like me, get charged for it.

Very odd. My Call Log shows calls I've made, calls I've received and missed calls that got bounced to voicemail (Green left arrow for received, orange right arrow for dialled and red angled arrow for missed calls)

I'm slowly figuring out this puzzle.
I was inquiring about two specific situations (which I hadn't made clear).
The first is when I have my phone turned off (flight mode) and I receive a call.
Is it possible with any software to find out these missed calls (caller ID/time)?
The second is when a call is made (again with phone turned off) and a voice message is left in my box.
In this situation my I9000 just notifies me that there is a voice mail. It doesn't tell me who called or the time (in the call log or anywhere else).
If I have my phone turned on, then yes, if I don't answer it (missed call) it will show up in the call log (caller ID and time).

I'm curious about these apps. It would be nice to avoid charges for accessing my voicemail box.
How can these apps possibly help though? Surely they must answer the phone call before they can record it? Once they answer the call, you're zapped with the charge, just as if you listened to a recorded voicemail.
Why would you be charged for someone else phoning you? The phone answers and records the message to the SD. There is also a version I believe that cancels the incoming call and then sends a text to the caller with your own custom message. Of course with this you would be charged for the text.

Because I live up in the frozen white north (Canada) where phone companies are making a killing charging you for both out and in calls.

Caller Id showing unkown caller instead of phone number

My s6 is stock rooted running 5.1.1 and it used to show the phone number anytime i got a call from someone not in my contacts list but last week it started just showing unknown caller. The caller's phone numbers show up on the call logs, but not on the call screen. I haven't changed any of the settings recently or installed or even updated any apps. I checked all over but I can't find anything on how to change it back.

Very Bizarre Caller ID problem

I am having a very frustrating problem with my Note 8. If someone calls me from a phone with a blocked number but dials *82 (to unblock their number) it still shows the incoming number being "Restricted".
I don't have this issues with any other Sprint phone on my account. From the same landline dialing *82 reveals the number in Caller ID on the other phones.
Does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on and how to get this to work right?
Just got this problem solved with Sprint tech support. Posting the solution for the benefit of anyone who has the problem in the future and comes across this thread.
I guess I had a trial of the Premium Caller ID running and that can make manually unblocked numbers still appear to be blocked. Sprint turned it off and now I can see the caller ID when the caller uses *82 to unblock their number.

Help Please ! Unable to recieve calls from certain numbers after Nov 2021 firmware update.

Hi All. Before I give you the whole story. I have a Note 9 N960U1. After the Nov 2021 update I cant recieve calls from some numbers. I have done a system flash but still same thing. And if those numbers call me from a hidden number I can see the call but with an unknown number. I have tired every thing. System reset. Delete number. Checked call forwarding, checked donot disturb and checked block list. Infact removed all numbers from block list. Still same thing.
So this first happend to my colleague at work. He came next day and won't answer my phone. At my end the call is going through, meaning I can her it ring till it goes to the voice mail but he dosent see any notification on his screen only voice mail notification if I leave him a voice mail. So at first i though he was just bullsh***ng me. Next day he came and showed me. He has the same model as me Note 9 but the exnyox version. So week before Christmas I got the notification for the system update and so I went ahead and updated my phone and my wife's. We both have the same phone and guess what now I can't receive calls from my wife. If she hides her number I can then recieve her call but with a private number or unknown number.
I posted this on redit and another person verified that they can't recieve calls from certain numbers as well after the update. I do recieve calls from some number but there is no correlation between who's number I can or can't see. Also we are all on different network providers. Also all phones are factory unlocked.
Any help would be great. Please. Thank you in advance.

If your phone depends on a carrier you may try to ask them if it's not an issue with their network and secondly if they didn't release a corrupted firmware...
If this is the case, they should propose you a procedure to downgrade your firmware till they fix the problem !

All the phones are factory unlocked. Not paired to a carrier.
