I just bought an extended battery for my T-Mobile G4 and whenever I turn my phone on, it says "Invalid battery" and shuts down. Is there any way to fix this? I still have the old battery, but I would really like to use this new one.
Sounds like you may have a bad battery. I would return it to the merchant and get another one.
Which battery is it?

I have two genuine LG batteries which came with my G4 directly from LG. Since the last system "update" the only battery which works is the one installed when the update was installed. The other one reads 100% and boots up fine, then 30 seconds later shuts down with the "Invalid Battery" message. Pretty much defeats the purpose of having two batteries!
I have the original battery bundled up with my G4 and one spare with the charging cradle I bought separately.. no problem, both recognized. You can't complain if you get unofficial batteries.
Only certified/genuine material works as expected. :good:

Has anyone brought the extended battery for there 02 HTC HD2 phone. i have just brought mine, and i cant get the thing to charge up in my phone. i have tried using the battery in my mates phone and it works fine no problem, its charges up using both our leads, but as i soon as i put it in mine, it doesn't charge, and i get a orange then green light flash every 3 secs.
Firstly i want to know if anyone else has the extended battery working in there phone??
and secondly after speaking to HTC, they said try doing the rom update and see if that works, if not then it may be a case the o2 branded phones cannot charge the phone due to software etc. is that even possible??
any Help is much appreciated,
kind regards
Shane
Funny you should mention this Shane, last week I bought the extended battery with kickstand cover and had the same "unable to charge" problem with the lights flashing green and amber.
I've sent the battery back and should get a replacement in the next day or two.
I've also upgraded to the latest stock O2 ROM from HTC's site in the mean time, so I'll let yo know how I get on when the new battery comes (it had better be here before the end of the week as I'm away for 2 weeks, hence the need for the battery!).
Of course if the new battery works, then I won't be able to say if the ROM fixed it or not, but it'd be worth applying it anyway if the battery does work.
i am at this exact moment doing the update as we speak, so i will be able to tell you if that works, but i cant see how o2 branded phone could really stop the device from using the extended battery, because after being on the phone to a very helpful guy at HTC he did say if this doesn't work, then it could be that 02 have done something to stop the extended battery from charging. but i cant see how, and see if its even possible, software blocking hardware from charging??
Edited, oh i forgot to mentioned i tried the exact same battery in my mates phone, which is bog standard HTC not branded, and it worked fine in his phone, charged no problem with both my cables and his, but as soon as i tried it in mine, it didn't work. so that would suggest that maybe its the o2 branded phones??
Woop woop it works, i have no idea why, but updating the ROM made it work. So it was never the battery it was the phone, im so happy I've been trying for the last 2 weeks non stop trying to get the thing to work or find out why it wasn't working but its all charging fine now =]
That's a really interesting one!
I do have a laptop at home where the battery will only charge until Windows starts, then it stops charging, so software can affect the ability to charge.
Definitely one for the hints and tips section!
Pesky O2 eh?
It could be that their modification of the ROM messed up the charging tables or whatever is used to work out how much charge is left in the battery, and the latest ROM fixes this.
Just off the top of my head, could it be that with a certain charge rate, it expects the battery to fill up at a set rate, and with it being twice the capacity it's charging half as quickly so throws up an error?
So the phone is saying "I know I'm getting 1A in, so the battery should be at 40%, 44%, 48%, 52%, but hang on, it's actually at 40%, 41%, 42%, something's wrong, best start flashing those lights!"
no problems with my extended battery on my o2 hd2 although.the last time it ran a stock o2 rom was about 2 weeks after i got it and that was in november LOL.
I have exactly the same problem. Lights are flashing and after about 15 hrs of continuous charging the battery state said 85%. I have contacted HTC support but no reply yet. Phone is O2 branded unlocked to all networks.
It's a documented issue with the HD2 and older ROMS. Please update your roms to the latest builds available or go the cutom rom route and it'll work like it's supposed to.

Two threads for the same problem? You could have just bumped the other one.
Thank you man! I have done the upgrade and everything works as it should. I also received a reply from HTC support saying to return tha battery to my retailer and buy a different one... So they obviously don't have a clue..
Looking for a Ext battery with a regular cover
any with 1400 or 1500 - usa site

For some odd reason, my wife's Bionic shut off today and won't start back up. Her phone is not running a custom ROM, has not been updated in months (no ICS), and is generally problem-free.
It had plenty of batter when it shut off, but my wife put it back on the charger anyway. If it's plugged in, when you hit the power button, the "Dual Core" screen will show up, followed by the battery meter. The battery meter will show 0%, then 5% a few seconds later, then eventually bop right to 100% within a minute or two. If you unplug the phone, the screen goes instantly dark. The battery is an OEM extended battery. I'm in the process of trying to find the stock battery, but figured I'd post here to see if anyone has seen this problem (I couldn't find anyone with the same problem).
Even more weird is that mine Galaxy Nexus also shut down today, after doing a batch update of apps from the Play Store. I really doubt they're related, unless some sort of EMP hit the countryside where we live.
I was able to find the old stock battery. I swapped them and the phone booted right up. I can honestly say I've never had a battery go bad like that. Hopefully Verizon replaces it, since it's less than a year old...
Hey, I dropped my atrix hd flat on its face on a rug and now it just won't turn on. When I plugged in the wall charger the green charge light comes on and then the Motorola duel core boot sign comes on and the it shuts off and repeats the same process. So it constantly repeats the reboot only as far as the Motorola sign. The phone was rooted and the bootloader and the sim carrier is unlocked. It's running kit kat Ron I think was CM. When I unplugged the phone it just shuts off like I removed the battery. I will order another battery but this one is only a few months old so how can it be that or how even is it possible to ruin my phone with a simple drop? It's dropped harder before but this is just weird. Please help.
Did you do the EB40 mod?
Have you tried to go into recovery and/or bootloader mode?
Fixed
So I ordered a new battery even though I just replaced this one and come to find out that the battery has a sticker to hold the battery in place for the HD models. I guess I forgot to do it the first time changing it and when I dropped it I guess it damaged the battery ribbon. With the new battery it works fine and I made sure it is stuck. Thanks for you replies.
I just got my Note 9 about 12 days ago and I'd been using an extended battery pack on it. I'd been noticing that my battery pack doesn't seem to lose power, while my phone does. I just ran a test and my phone actually shut off when it ran out of power. However, the extended battery case/pack has 4 charge indicator lights on it, all of which were still lit. Actually, correction: It has four lights on it, the last light is blinking, so maybe it's possible tat it is slowly calibrating? Just trying to make some sense on the matter.
I have the SM-N960U from T-mobile, and from what I understand, the bootloader cannot be unlocked, thus rooted. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. From past experiences, this seems to matter when trying to get extended batteries to discharge properly. Please comment. Thanks.
Edit: I'm using this case. It looks like some generic case made in China...which might explain a lot. I'm actually looking at the box right now and cannot even find a brand name.
Stating which case you're using would help. It sounds like you're just checking the battery level, not turning it on, perhaps try a long press and see if the phone starts charging.
I have a battery pack that I wanted to try with my Note 9. Once I turn on the battery pack, it begins to charge the phones battery. As I use the phone, the battery pack continues to charge the battery just as if I was using the regular charger. The battery pack begins to discharge as I use the phone, while the phone battery stays at 100%. It stayed at 100% until the battery pack ran out of juice, then the phone battery starts to discharge. It sounds like you never turned on the battery pack.

I did add text to the OP and also, I think you could be right. I just did try a long press and the lights on the battery are staying lit. For every time I unplug my phone, I have to repeat this. The lights turn off when discharged from a power source.
On a similar note, I noticed that my phone will not connect to my computer while this case is on. It works fine without. Not sure if that's a common problem w/ extended battery cases or not. I tried with and without the case activated.

Yeah the data transfer via case is a kinda premium feature it seems. These are the only battery cases that I know that support it: https://zerolemon.com/collections/samsung/products/galaxy-note-9-battery-case-5000mah-upgraded
Have a Note 8 that was draining the battery real fast all the sudden. It's on android 9. I would charge it to 100, let it sit with screen off and in about 30min. it was down 59%. This kept happening. One day it went down to 0% and didn't charge anymore. So I changed the battery. It did the same thing. Depleted too fast. When it went down to 0%, again phone would not turn on nor charge again. This is what I have gone thru so far with this phone:
Replaced the battery 3 times.
Replaced the charging port flex cable
Tried several Samsung chargers
Wipe data/factory reset X2
Wiped cache X2
No apps are on the phone.
Even with all that the batteries still drain quickly. If they go to 0%, phone won't charge again. Phone will not turn on and charge until I put a new battery replacement in it-only for it to drain fast.
The only thin I have not replaced was the logic board. Could this be a logic board issue or software issue?

To rule out it being a software/firmware problem update it if you can or if you can't update then downgrade but stay with the same bootloader version.. If it does it after doing that then it's 100 percent a hardware problem.
Both my wife and I have Verizon Note 8s. We received the June patch a few days ago and have experienced SEVERE battery drain. In the battery usage stats there is no application that seems to be causing the drain. We've not had these phones very long (maybe 16-18 mo) and believe this is absolutely related to the June 2020 security update. I'm not sure if this issue is specific to the Verizon version of the patch or if this would affect more Note 8s. I'm just trying to find proof that it was the update.
I am a tech so yes I did the repair myself. Just looking for a second opinion on this. I bought the batteries from amazon and had a good condition battery from an old Note 8 repair leftover.
However, I cannot do anything more as far as testing because I need to purchase another battery. That is the only way to get the phone back on because like I mentioned once the battery drains out phone doesn't charge anymore unless I put a new battery in. As long as I don't let the phone drain to 0% I can keep using it and charging it.
But for now to do any of the tests mentioned here I would need to get another battery first.

Some of the phones that would drain to 0 wouldn't charge again and Samsung was replacing the batteries in those ones but some people have been able to get them to charge again so if you have a wireless charger put the phone on BOTH the wireless charger AND the wired cable charger and leave it over night and it may or may not work but you have nothing to lose so..
Well I have found the issue and only issue. It was the logic board. The power IC chip is bad. After purchasing and connecting the new logic board everything on this note 8 is working perfectly. Battery charges, holds its charge like it supposed to. Battery drain is gone. And I can let the battery drain to 0% and charge it up again with no problem. So eventually, when I get the time, I will replace the power IC on the bad board. But for now, all is good.
Thanks to you all for your assistance.

What exactly do you mean when you say "put a new battery replacement in"? You mean that you have opened the phone and put in new batteries? How did you put it back together? It is supposed to be sealed, and many things can go wrong after opening the enclosure.

Instead of for someone typing out the answer to that just go to YouTube and search for Samsung Galaxy Note 8 battery replacement and you'll see the entire process!

My comment was not so much about the process, but about the result. Or shall I say consequences of the action? If one opens the seal, replaces the battery (not just once, but several times) and then complains about the battery not working normally is in my opinion a bit cheeky.
