Hi
Newbie here, sorry if this is a repost.
My Sony Z3c has been having issues since it updated to 5.1.1.
As of now, my Z3c does not power up.
I tried the Volume-power button, yellow button, leave the charger overnight with no luck.
My phone is only 6 months old, and the cost to ship it out to the nearest Sony service is ridiculous.
Just want to know how many members has recently experience this and what solutions has been made to restore this issue.
Right now I'm at the edge of giving up this phone....:crying:
Yellow button???
Anyways, You have 6 months warranty left. Please use it. Seems like a board failure. And the only option is going to Sony. Paying for shipping is better than an expired warranty any day. Good luck buddy!
Hi bro,
I had the same problem with my 1 year old z3c (locked BL, custom FW) and tryed everything i knew to make it start - no chance.
After 1 week i got a new z3c from warranty service.
So good luck and patience to wait
Regards,
Gre Go

My 1 year old Z3C died at sunday. Was taking the dog out and when I returned home after 15mins, the phone had gone dead.
Does not charge, not with USB nor with Magnetic charger.
Yellow button under the SIM-cover did not do anything.
So, I had to take my phone back to the dealer and they sent it to repairshop. I suspect the motherboard died for some reason. I was just about to re-root the phone after losing the roots with the latest patch... heh.

I'm curious what the experiences of XDA users have been with Sony's customer support when it comes to their Xperia devices. I had to send mine in for what I think was a shorted out battery (had it in/around the pool for a few hours, got out and it was fine, but then an hour later it just shut off, refused to stay on unless it was plugged in). They didn't contact me for two weeks, then I called and they just said "yeah you'll probably be good we would have called you if there was a problem". Two days later I got a (what I assume to be) refurb unit in the mail.
I'm actually extremely happy with this. Mainly because A: The device I sent to them was bought second hand off craigslist so I fully expected them to tell me that would void the warranty somehow, B: It was rooted, and C: it had some scuffing on the screen and bezel, and the power button was "mushy". Given that it was probably water damage and technically my fault (it spend most of it's time on the side of the pool getting splashed, but definitely overdid the "30 minute" rule), and they could have easily given me a hard time over any of the three things mentioned, I don't think I can be anything but very pleased with Sony right now.
:good::good::good:
My experiences have been mixed. My x10 was a nightmare to get sorted, first one didn't work out of the box, it took 13 weeks to get a replacement
My arc however was the opposite, screen died but had a new handset in 2 weeks.
Good guy Sony
Just got my 6 month old Z1 replaced.. Initially they offered me a refurbished unit but I refused to accept it and mailed them and got into a conversation with them. I was able to convince them to offer me a New unit and they immediately did! A company that listens!
Hi there,
There are already threads about the "not-100%-water-proofness" of our wonderful z3c. Those are mostly about how disappointed peeps are, but what I would like to know is if the phone got replaced or not. Unfortunately, some weeks ago, even after doing the pressure test, my beloved Z3c died short after taking 2 photos in the pool.
I have two simple questions:
1. In case you have sent in the phone due to water-damage, has it been replaced by Sony?
2. In which country/area do you live (just to see if Sony's policy changes depending on geography)
Thanks!
I got a new one, i put my phone into a pool and i was taking pictures and suddenly it turned off so i put my phone into rice for 3 weeks untill Sony give me a response about... then i had to send my phone to the Sony Factory near my city and less than a week i got a new one I'm from Acapulco, Mexico

You haven't been cliff diving, have you?
November 2014, my phone drown within 20 minutes when I used it for a movie and pictures in a 1,5meter pool (just like the commercial).
When I got back home after my holiday, I contacted Sony and the seller (T-Mobile). After 3 weeks I received a brand new phone with a new invoice and warranty.
Sony solved it completely for me.
(I'm from The Netherlands)
All I got back from Sony in Sweden was: your phone is water damaged, we can't repair it and therefore can't do anything. :crying:
I was taking photos in swimming pool for 10s, went out, dried the phone with a towel. After 5min I had a brick with water on camera.
Sony Portugal replaced it with a new one.
damn.. it seems that all around the globe they replace the phone. I'll keep you posted guys, I loved my z3c, and really don't want to have to buy a new one because of those flaps.
To answer your questions...
1) yes
2)I'm from Malaysia
I have already posted a warning regarding this issue a couple of weeks back in the forums. It is sad to see another person who has encountered the same problem here. The Z3C is great, its just a shame that the waterproofness is not as advertised in the long run. Hope you can get your replacement :good:
yes
Netherlands
i wasn't get new replacement phone but I got new mainboard for my damaged phone
Hi, where did you send your phone in malaysia? mine just happened, just taking a couple photo under the water in pool then suddenly turn off by itself. hope mine also can get a new one.
Replaced a water damaged D5833 in Singapore 15th Jul 2015. Went to Sony Service Centre. From the letter i recevieved this 1 to 1 exchange is limited to ONE time only.

Hi,
I thought I saw a success story about a sony repair recently, but i cannot find the thread. I've got a z3 compact which has served me well for almost two years (I'm on the concept rom now, and besides poor battery life when bt is on, i'm still quite pleased with the phone) MY brother ought the same phone at the exact same time, and his lost use of the front facing camera and gps relatively quickly (about 6 months.) He is pretty busy dayd to day, and sony customer service was terrible, so he gave up trying to get it repaired (still under warranty) and switched to an iphone.
I now have his old phone and was hoping to have it repaired, but Sony will not repair out of warranty devices? any ideas? I've seen something about fixing the gps by opening the phone and fiddling with the usb port, but i haven't opened a phone since my old moto defy.
any advice greatly appreciated
thanks
So, am I out of luck here? No way to get my phone repaired? Unless I open it up myself?
Hi, all!
I've never thought I will write this story on some forum but now I'm totally clueless what should I do...
I was a happy owner of Z1 Compact with root and Android 4.1.1. After one year the headphone connector stopped working.
Official repair gave me a Z3 Compact in return. Cool!
After 5 months the jack connector started pausing the music, later one channel stopped working. Phone was rooted and running 4.1.1 same as previous. I've sent it to official repair centre and it returned 2 days later. Broken. Touch screen is not registering touch, image on the screen sometimes flickers and shifts to 3 different colors (broken motherboard?).
Oh, and headphone jack is still broken.
After contacting Sony and repair centre I was told that my warranty has ben canceled because of unauthorized changes in phone (root? they never told me).
I've exchanged emails for over two months and nothing. I've lost my phone.
What do you think, what should I do? I'm afraid that if I go to court I will be smashed to pieces by their lawyers and it will cost me much more than a new phone...

Sorry, I know it's not very helpful, but I would recommend always removing root and restoring to stock firmware before sending any device in for warranty work. I hope someone can help, but I would say that Sony now have your IMEI blacklisted and you're scuppered.
Maybe try with the shipping company and see if it's insured up to a certain amount perhaps?

I have thought about it but decided against - based on two previous cases when they didn't care about the root...
Hi @milu_ , here is direct from sony:
Code:
Is the repair will cost?
If the problem is covered by warranty, repairs will be free.
If the problem is not covered under warranty or if the device is out of warranty, you will get a quote for the cost of repair. If you do not want to pay for the repair, we will return the device at a cost of 28.58 EUR. The cost includes the exam fee, shipping and administration.
After selecting the device can access information about the warranty and some price indications repair out of warranty.
So basicley , ask Sony to send you the phone as it is !.. You only be charge of 28 euros for check the phone and shipment !
Then remove the root and send it back

Hi, thanks for input The problem is that I have received the phone back. They didn't ask me for any money for shipment or repairs. They've just sent it back and canceled my warranty.
I've asked them why they didn't ask me for money for the repair. They didn't mention anything that would resemble a answer to that question in around 20 emails we exchanged.
I've asked them if I could send the phone to them for repairs that I would pay for. They replied that my warranty is no longer valid. One woman from Sony (to whom i talked on the phone) said something along the lines "sorry but now you have no business with Sony" and the case is closed.
i always re-flash my Z3 compact before i send it to repair
Try getting legal or consumer advice from wherever deals with this kind of thing in your country.
Here in the UK although they could try and cancel the warranty, it doesn't remove automatic consumer protections under law. Sony would have to prove rooting caused the defect, otherwise they are still liable for the repair even without warranty.
But this would have to be done all in court, and most will not want to bother (even though county court is actually pretty cheap here and easy to do).
Just sharing my experiences here. If anyone here who's interested on used z3+ / z4 . By used I meant refurbished. I suggest to put to rest those thoughts, forever. I bought one that seems to come from Japan from wholesale online. Sometimes it's Docomo or AU branded(you'll get what what I'm trying to say later). Mine came with 1 week warranty. I return mine's within 1 day as I had a problem with the rear camera. I got the replacement unit. Then I return it again as I found out that the display came off from the bottom within 2 day. I return the phone again. Then I got a unit with a faulty flickering lcd. Then I got a unit which seems usable at first then only after my replacement period had finished I found out that it got faulty battery which in my case it turn off and show low battery warning even when it still had 70% charge left. I replaced the battery which cost me $12 myself. Then the problem still shows up. I thought that maybe it's the problem with the firmware. But, the problem don't go away even after I hard reset and through sony companion. I return it only to found out that the motherboard itself is faulty. As the replacement motherboard is expensive. It has become a living brick somewhere on my shelf . I knew I should't have bothered with Xperia but I can't help it.
